  • This study is the previous stage for the mass production technology development of the nano-sized tin oxide powder by the recycling of the wasted tin metal, and nano-sized tin oxide powder with the average particle size below 50 nm is prepared from the tin chloride solution by the spray pyrolysis process. As the reaction temperature increases from 800 to 850, the average particle size of the generated powder increases from 20 to 30 nm. As the reaction temperature increases to 900, the droplet type is composed of the particles with the average size of the 30 nm. while the average size of the independent particles increases up to $80{\sim}100$ nm and the surface microstructure becomes more solid. Until $900^{\circ}C$, as the reaction temperature increases, the XRD peak intensity increases, while the specific surface area decreases. When the reaction temperature increases to 950, most of the powder appears with the independent type and the average particle size decrease down to 70 nm. The XRD peak intensity greatly decreases and the specific surface area increases almost twice.

  • The effects of the MgO fabrication process on the properties of AC-PDPs were examined. MgO films were deposited by e-beam evaporation with various substrate temperatures and oxygen flow rates. MgO films were analyzed by XRD, CL and ellipsometer. Panel properties such as luminance, efficiency, discharge voltage and discharge delay time were measured with test panels. MgO films with higher temperature, smaller oxygen flow rate showed shorter discharge delay time. Also they showed smaller XRD peak intensity. These results revealed that the discharge delay time was strongly influenced by temperature and oxygen flow rate of the MgO fabrication process.

  • ZnO thin films were grown with different plume-substrate angles by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) to control the amount of ablated species arriving on a substrate per laser shot. The angles between plume propagation direction and substrate plane (P-S angle) were 0$^{\circ}$, 45$^{\circ}$ and 90$^{\circ}$. The growth time was changed in order to adjust film thickness. From the XRD pattern exhibiting a dominant (002) and a minor (101) XRD peak of ZnO, all films were found to be well oriented along c-axis. From the AFM image, it was found that the grain size of ZnO thin film was increased, as P-S angle decreased. UV intensity investigated by PL (Photoluminescence) increased as P-S angle decreased.

  • Indium tin oxide (In:$SnO_2$) nanoparticles were synthesized employing a sol-gel combustion method followed by annealing. The TG, XRD, XPS and SEM results of the precursor powders and calcinated In:$SnO_2$ nanoparticles were investigated. Crystal structures were examined by powder XRD, and those results show shaper intensity peak at $25.6^{\circ}$ ($2{\theta}$) of $SnO_2$ by increased annealing temperature. A particle morphology and size was examined by SEM, and the size of the nanoparticles was found to be in the range of 20~30nm. In:$SnO_2$ films could controlled by nanoparticle material at various annealing temperature. The sol-gel combustion method was offered simple and effective route for the synthesis of In:$SnO_2$ nanoparticles.

  • The lead zirconate titanate, $Pb(Zr_{0:52}Ti_{0:48})O_3$, films of $0.5\;{\mu}m,\;1\;{\mu}m$ and $2\;{\mu}m$ thickness were fabricated on $Pt/Ti/SiO_2/Si$ substrate by the rf magnetron sputtering method. The PZT films were annealed using by a rapid thermal annealing (RTA) method. The thickness dependence of the film structure, dielectric properties, Polarization-electric field hysteresis loops and capacitance-voltage characteristics were investigated over the thickness range of $0.5\;{\mu}m,\;1\;{\mu}m$ and $2\;{\mu}m$. According to the XRD patterns of the films, (110) peak intensity increases with film thickness increased. The increase of PZT films thickness leads to the decrease of the remanent polarization and the dielectric constant.

  • ZnO thin films were prepared on a glass substrate by radio frequency (RF) magnetron sputtering without intentional substrate heating and then surfaces of the ZnO films were irradiated with intense electrons in vacuum condition to investigate the effect of electron bombardment on crystallization, surface roughness, morphology and hydrogen gas sensitivity. In XRD pattern, as deposited ZnO films show a higher ZnO (002) peak intensity. However, the peak intensity for ZnO (002) is decreased with increase of electron bombarding energy. Atomic force microscope images show that surface morphology is also dependent on electron bombarding energy. The surface roughness increases due to intense electron bombardment as high as 2.7 nm. The observed optical transmittance means that the films irradiated with intense electron beams at 900 eV show lower transmittance than the others due to their rough surfaces. In addition, ZnO films irradiated by the electron beam at 900 eV show higher hydrogen gas sensitivity than the films that were electron beam irradiated at 450 eV. From XRD pattern and atomic force microscope observations, it is supposed that intense electron bombardment promotes a rough surface due to the intense bombardments and increased gas sensitivity of ZnO films for hydrogen gas. These results suggest that ZnO films irradiated with intense electron beams are promising for practical high performance hydrogen gas sensors.

  • In biomedical implants and dental fields, titanium has been widely utilized for excellent corrosion resistance and biocompatibility. However, Ti and its alloys are nonbioactive after being implanted in bone. In this study, for the purpose of improvement in biocompatibility the anodic $TiO_2$ layer on Ti-xNb alloys were fabricated by electrochemical method in phosphate solution, and the effect of Nb content on the pore size, the morphology and crystallinity of Ti oxide layer formed by the anodic oxidation method was investigated. The Ti containing Nb up to 3 wt%, 20 wt% and 40 wt% were melted by using a vacuum furnace. The sample were cut, polished, and homogenized for 24 hr at $1050^{\circ}C$ for surface roughness test and anodizing. Titanium anodic layer was formed on the specimen surface in an electrolytic solution of 1 M phosphoric acid at constant current densities ($30mA/cm^2$) by anodizing method. Microstructural morphology, crystallinity, composition, and surface roughness of oxide layer were observed by FE-SEM, XRD, EDS, and roughness tester, respectively. The structure of alloy was changed from $\alpha$-phase to $\beta$-phase with increase of Nb content. From XRD results, the structure of $TiO_2$ formed on the Ti-xNb surface was anatase, and no peaks of $Nb_2O_5$ or other Nb oxide were detected suggesting that Nb atoms are dispersed in $TiO_2$-based solid solution. Surface roughness test and SEM results, pore size formed on surface and surface roughness decreased as Nb content increased. From the line analysis results, intensity of Ti peak was high in the center of pore, whereas, intensity of O peak was high in the outside of pore center.

  • In this study, using a tin chloride solution as the raw material, a nano-sized tin oxide powder with an average particle size below 50 nm is generated by a spray pyrolysis process. The properties of the tin oxide powder according to the nozzle tip size are examined. Along with an increase in the nozzle tip size from 1 mm to 5 mm, the generated particles that appear in the shape of droplets maintain an average particle size of 30 nm. When the nozzle tip size increases from 1 mm to 2 mm, the average size of the generated particles is around 80-100 nm, and the ratio of the independent particles with a compact surface structure increases significantly. When the nozzle tip size is at 3 mm, the majority of the generated particles maintain the droplet shape, the average size of the droplet-shaped particles increases remarkably compared to the cases of other nozzle tip sizes, and the particle size distribution also becomes extremely irregular. When the nozzle tip size is at 5 mm, the ratio of droplet-shaped particles decreases significantly and most of the generated particles are independent ones with incompact surface structures. Along with an increase in the nozzle tip size from 1 mm to 3 mm, the XRD peak intensity increases, whereas the specific surface area decreases greatly. When the nozzle tip size increases up to 5 mm, the XRD peak intensity decreases significantly, while the specific surface area increases remarkably.

  • In this study, nano-sized tin oxide powder with an average particle size of below 50 nm is prepared by the spray pyrolysis process. The influence of air pressure on the properties of the generated powder is examined. Along with the rise of air pressure from $0.1kg/cm^2$ to $3kg/cm^2$, the average size of the droplet-shaped particles decreases, while the particle size distribution becomes more regular. When the air pressure increases from $0.1kg/cm^2$ to $1kg/cm^2$, the average size of the dropletshaped particles, which is around 30-50 nm, shows hardly any change. When the air pressure increases up to $3kg/cm^2$, the average size of the droplet-shaped particles decreases to 30 nm. For the independent generated particles, when the air pressure is at $0.1kg/cm^2$, the average particle size is approximately 100 nm; when the air pressure increases up to $0.5kg/m^2$, the average particle size becomes more than 100 nm, and the surface structure becomes more compact; when the air pressure increases up to $1kg/cm^2$, the surface structure is almost the same as in the case of $0.5kg/cm^2$, and the average particle size is around 80- 100 nm; when the air pressure increases up to $3kg/cm^2$, the surface structure becomes incompact compared to the cases of other air pressures, and the average particle size is around 80-100 nm. Along with the rise of air pressure from $0.1kg/cm^2$ to $0.5kg/cm^2$, the XRD peak intensity slightly decreases, and the specific surface area increases. When the air pressure increases up to $1kg/cm^2$ and $3kg/cm^2$, the XRD peak intensity increases, while the specific surface area also increases.

  • Tin doped indium oxide(ITO) films are highly conductive and transparent in the visible region whose property leads to the applications in solar cell, liquid crystal display, thermal heater, and other sensors. This paper investigated ITO films as a transparent conducting films for application of PDP. ITO films were grown on glass substrate by RF magnetron sputtering method. To achieve high transmittance and low resistivity, we examined the various film deposition such as substrate temperature, gas pressure, annealing temperature, and deposition time. We recommend the substrate temperature of $500^{\circ}C$ and post annealing of $200^{\circ}C$ in $O_2$ atmosphere for good conductivity and transmittance. From XRD examination, ITO films showed a preferred(222) orientation. As substrate temperature increased from RT to $500^{\circ}C$, the intensity of the (222) peak increased. The highest peak intensity was observed at a substrate temperature of $500^{\circ}C$. with the optimum growth conditions, ITO films showed resistivity of $1.04{\times}10^{-4}{\Omega}-cm$ and transmittance of 81.2% for a film 300nm thick in the wavelength range of the visible spectrum.
