xPlaneb: 3-Dimensional Bitmap Index for Index Document Retrieval (xPlaneb: XML문서 검색을 위한 3차원 비트맵 인덱스)

  • XML has got to be a new standard for data representation and exchanging by its many good points, and the core part of many new researches and emerging technologies. However, the self-describing characteristic, which is one of XML's good points, caused the spreading of XML documents with different structures, and so the need of the research for the effective XML-document search has been proposed. This paper is for the analysis of the problem in BitCube, which is a bitmap indexing that shows high performance grounded on its fast retrieval. In addition, to resolve the problem of BitCube, we did design and implement xPlaneb(XML Plane Web) which it a new 3-dimensional bitmap indexing made of linked lists. We propose an effective information retrieval technique by replacing BitCube operations with new ones and reconstructing 3-dimensional array index of BitCube with effective nodes. Performance evaluation shows that the proposed technique is better than BitCube, as the amount of document increases, in terms of memory consumptions and operation speed.

A Path Combining Strategy for Efficient Storing of XML Documents (XML 문서의 효율적인 저장을 위한 경로 통합 기법)

  • As XML is increasingly used, the need of researches which are related with XML in various fields is also augmented. Many XML document management systems have been actively developed especially for the storage, processing and retrieval of XML documents. The BitCube is a three dimensional bitmap index system that could be manipulated efficiently and improves the performance of document retrieval. However, the site of index is increase rapidly, when a new bit is added to the axis. This problem is caused by its three dimensional memory structure with document, path and word. We suggest a path combining strategy of XML documents in this paper to solve the problem of BitCube that mentioned above. To reduce the size of index, our approach combines sibling nodes that has same ancestor paths, and transforms word axis into value axis. The method reduces the size of index, when the system com poses the three dimensional bitmap index. It also improves the speed of retrieving, and takes efficiency in storage space.

  • XML and Web Services draw a lot of attention as standard technologies for data exchange and integration among heterogeneous platforms XML/A, which supports such technologies, is a SOAP based XML APl that facilitates data exchange between a client application and a data analysis engine through the Internet. The fact that the XML format is used for data exchange makes XML/A to be platform-independent. However. client application developers have to go through a tedious Job of treating the same type of XML documents fur downloading data from the server. Also, an XML query language is needed for extracting data from the XML documents sent by the server. In this paper, we present a high level client OLAP API, called DXML, for the client application developers in the windows environment to easily use the OLAP services of XML/A. XMLMD consists of properties and methods needed for OLAP application development. XMLMD is to XML/A what ADOMD is to OLEDB for OLAP. We also present a web OLAP cube browser that is developed using XMLMD. The browser display's data in various formats such as XML, HTML, Excel, and graph.

An Indexing System for Retrieving Similar Paths in XML Documents (XML 문서의 유사 경로 검색을 위한 인덱싱 시스템)

  • Since the XML standard was introduced by the W3C in 1998, documents that have been written in XML have been gradually increasing. Accordingly, several systems have been developed in order to efficiently manage and retrieve massive XML documents. BitCube-a bitmap indexing system-is a representative system for this field of research. Based on the bitmap indexing technique, the path bitmap indexing system(LH06), which performs the clustering of similar paths, improved the problem that the existing BitCube system could not solve, namely, determining similar paths. The path bitmap indexing system has the advantage of a higher retrieval speed in not only exactly matched path searching but also similar path searching. However, the similarity calculation algorithm of this system has a few particular problems. Consequently, it sometimes cannot calculate the similarity even though some of two paths have extremely similar relationships; further, it results in an increment in the number of meaningless clusters. In this paper, we have proposed a novel method that clustering, the similarity between the paths in order to solve these problems. The proposed system yields a stable result for clustering, and it obtains a high score in clustering precision during a performance evaluation against LH06.

A Multidimensional Analysis Framework for XML Warehouses (XML 웨어하우스에 대한 다차원 분석 프레임워크)

  • Nowadays, large amounts of XML documents are available in the Internet. Thus, we need to analyze them multidimensionally in the same way as relational data. In this paper, we propose a new framework for multidimensional analysis of XML documents, which we call XML-OLAP. We base XML-OLAP on XML warehouses where all fact and dimension data are stored as XML documents. We build XML cubes from XML warehouses. We propose a new OLAP language for XML cubes, which we call XML-MDX. XML-MDX statements target XML cubes and use XQuery expressions to designate measure, axis and slicer. They incorporate text mining operations for aggregating text data. We apply XML-OLAP to the United States patent XML warehouse to demonstrate multidimensional analysis of XML documents.

  • 기존의 웹 문서나 컨텐츠들의 표현적 한계를 극복하기 위한 방안으로 메타 데이터에 관한 다양한 연구가 수행되어졌고 그 결과의 산물중에 가장 대표적인 것으로 XML을 들 수 있다. XML은 문서의 내용뿐 아니라 구조까지도 기술할 수 있는 장점을 통해 향후 정보 교환에 핵심적인 역할을 할 것으로 기대되어지고 있으며 이에 따라 XML 문서를 효율적으로 저장하고 검색하기 위한 다양한 연구가 진행되고 있다. BitCube는 Bit-wise 연산이 가능한 3차원 비트맵 인덱싱을 사용하여 XML 문서들의 구조적 유사성에 따라 클러스터링하고 사용자의 질의에 대한 처리를 수행하는 인덱싱 기법으로 그것의 빠른 성능을 입증하였다. 그러나 BitCube의 클러스터링은 XML 문서의 경로에 중점을 둔 것이므로 클러스터와 경로가 담고 있는 실제 단어들간에는 연관성이 없으므로 3차원 비트맵 인덱스는 하나의 평면을 제외한 모든 평면이 굉장히 높은 공간 사용량을 갖는 회소행렬이 된다. 본 논문에서는 늘어나는 방대한 문서의 양으로 인한 시스템의 성능 저하를 막고 안정적인 성능을 유지할 수 있도록 기존 연산의 성능을 저하시키지 않으면서 공간을 최소화 할 수 있는 연결 리스트틀 설계하고 3차원 비트맵 인덱스를 연결 리스트로 재구성하는 방법을 제시한다.

Web Information Extraction and Multidimensional Analysis Using XML (XML을 이용한 웹 정보 추출 및 다차원 분석)

  • For analyzing a huge amount of web pages available in the Internet, we need to extract the encoded information in web pages. In this paper, we propose a method to extract and convert web information from web pages into XML documents for multidimensional analysis. For extracting information from web pages, we propose two languages: one for describing web information extraction rules based on the object-oriented model, and another for describing regular expressions of HTML tag patterns to search for target information. For multidimensional analysis on XML documents, we propose a method for constructing an XML warehouse and various XML cubes from it like the way we do for relational data. Finally, we show the validness of our method through the application to US patent web pages.

An Efficient ROLAP Cube Generation Scheme (효율적인 ROLAP 큐브 생성 방법)

  • ROLAP(Relational Online Analytical Processing) is a process and methodology for a multidimensional data analysis that is essential to extract desired data and to derive value-added information from an enterprise data warehouse. In order to speed up query processing, most ROLAP systems pre-compute summary tables. This process is called 'cube generation' and it mostly involves intensive table sorting stages. (1) showed that it is much faster to generate ROLAP summary tables indirectly using a MOLAP(multidimensional OLAP) cube generation algorithm. In this paper, we present such an indirect ROLAP cube generation algorithm that is fast and scalable. High memory utilization is achieved by slicing the input fact table along one or more dimensions before generating summary tables. High speed is achieved by producing summary tables from their smallest parents. We showed the efficiency of our algorithm through experiments.

  • OLAP(On-line Analytical Processing)은 데이터를 다차원적으로 집계하여 그 결과를 온라인으로 사용자에게 제공함으로써 고부가가치 창출에 사용되는 비즈니스 인텔리젼스 기술 중의 하나이다. 질의 처리 시간 제약 조건을 만족하기 위해 OLAP 시스템들은 다차원적 집계 결과를 미리 계산하여 저장해 둔다. 이 때 저장되는 데이터를 OLAP 큐브(cube)라고 하며, 데이터의 분석은 주로 큐브를 브라우징하면서 이루어진다. 본 연구에서는 웹 서비스를 통해 큐브를 브라우징할 수 있는 ‘웹 OLAP 큐브 브라우저(WOCB)'를 개발하였다. WOCB는 본 연구팀이 개발한 웹 서비스 기반의 OLAP API인 XMLMD를 사용하여 개발되었으며, 웹 서비스를 통해 전송되는 OLAP 큐브 데이터를 XML, HTML, 엑셀, 그래프 등의 다양한 형태로 검색할 수 있는 기능을 제공한다. 본 연구 결과는 이기종 플랫폼 환경에 분산되어 있는 OLAP 서버들을 통합할 때 하나의 컴포넌트로 사용될 수 있다는 장점을 갖는다.

  • As the importance of knowledge management is being recognized, there is a significant amount of increase for interest in data warehousing. On-Line Analytical Processing (OLAP) systems can effectively make use of data warehouses. Although there are many commercial OLAP products, they have been developed without any kind of standard resulting in poor data exchange and difficulty in interfacing among the OLAP products. In this paper we propose an OLAP metadata interchange model that can be used among different OLAP products and have implemented an OLAP metadata interchange system that can interchange the cubes created from the metadata. XML is used for the OLAP metadata model and the user interface is Web-based, which makes it easier to interchange metadata among different OLAP products. Users can experience the different analysis environments of different products without the need to learn the complex cube creation process for each product. By extending this research to design a common query language that can be used among OLAP products, OLAP products should be able to more easily talk to one another.
