소아 흉부검사 시 격자 사용에 따른 영상 화질 평가 (Evaluation of Image Quality When Using Grid During Child Chest X-Ray Examination)

  • 소아의 경우 방사선의 감수성이 성인에 비하여 높고, 잠재적 피폭으로 인한 장해가 발생할 수 있으므로 피폭선량에 대해 관리가 요구된다. 이에 본 연구는 소아 흉부검사 시 산란선을 제거시켜주지만 피폭선량을 증가시키는 격자(Grid)의 사용 유, 무에 따른 영상과 거리와 조건의 변화에 따른 영상을 분석하여 소아 흉부검사에서 적정한 검사조건을 제시하고자 하였다. 연구방법은 Grid를 부착한 상태에서 100 cm, 180 cm에서 측정하였으며, kVp를 70. 90. 110으로 변화하여 측정하였다. 또한 Grid를 미부착한 상태에서 100 cm, 180 cm을 고정 시키고, 선량을 6, 8, 10 mAs로 변화시켜 측정하였으며, 측정항목은 신호 대 잡음비, 대조도 대 잡음비, J.J Vucich를 측정하였다. kVp를 고정시켜 측정한 결과 초점-이미지 수용체간 거리가 100 cm일 때 신호 대 잡음비, 대조도 대 잡음비, J.J Vucich가 모두 높게 나타났다. 또한, 선량(mAs)을 변화시켜 측정한 결과 신호 대 잡음비, 대조도 대 잡음비, J.J Vucich에서 초점-이미지 수용체 간 거리 100 cm에서 높게 나타났다. 현재 국내에서 흉부검사는 일반적으로 180 cm으로 시행하고 있지만 본 연구결과에서는 소아의 흉부 검사 시 초점-이미지수용체간 거리가 100 cm일 때 영상평가에서 화질이 높게 평가되었다.

Radiation Safety Exploration Using Radio-photoluminescence Dosimeter for Crookes Tubes in Junior and Senior High School in Japan

  • Background: Crookes tube is utilized in junior high and high schools in Japan to study the character of electrons and current, and not for radiological education. There is no official guideline or regulation for these radiation source to the public. Therefore, most teachers have no information about the leakage of X-rays from Crookes tube. The peak energy of X-rays is approximately 20 keV, and it is impossible to measure using conventional survey meters. Materials and Methods: Each leakage dose of low energy X-rays from 38 Crookes tube in the education field, such as junior and senior high schools in Japan, was explored by the teachers in the school using radio-photoluminescence (RPL) dosimeters. Before and after the measurements, the dosimeters were sent by postal mails. Results and Discussion: At the exploration in this study, it was estimated that the 70 ㎛ dose equivalent, Hp(0.07) of X-rays from 31 Crookes tubes were smaller than 100 µSv in 10 minutes, at the distance of 1 m, where the Crookes tube was usually observed. However, the highest dose was estimated as 0.69 mSv by an equipment with the full power. Furthermore, one Crookes tube exhibited 0.62 mSv with minimum output power of the induction coil. This relatively large dose was reduced by the shorter distance of discharge electrodes of the induction coil. Conclusion: The leakage dose of low energy X-rays from 38 Crookes tube was explored using RPL dosimeters. It was estimated that the Hp(0.07) of X-rays from 31 Crookes tubes were smaller than 100 µSv in 10 minutes at the distance of 1 m, while some equipment radiated a higher dose. With this study, the provisional guideline for the safety operation of Crookes tube is established.

Low-temperature Synthesis of Highly Crystalline BaxSr1-xTiO3 Nanoparticles in Aqueous Medium

  • We report the synthesis of $SrTiO_3$, $BaTiO_3$ and $Ba_xSr_{1-x}TiO_3$ (BST) nanoparticles (NPs) in various compositions (x = 0.25, 0.5 and 0.75) by an inorganic sol-gel method under a basic condition. Highly crystalline nanoparticles were formed at the reaction temperature of 25 - $100^{\circ}C$ from a stabilized titanium alkoxide in tetramethylammonium hydroxide (TMAH) and barium or strontium acetate in aqueous solution. Morphology and particle structure of the synthesized BST NPs were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The BST nanoparticles in various compositions were monodispersed without mutual aggregation, and their average sizes were in the range of 70 - 80 nm. Furthermore, they showed highly crystallized perovskite phase over the whole composition range from $SrTiO_3$ to $BaTiO_3$. We also proposed a mechanism for the low-temperature formation of BST NPs.

La 농도에 따른 PLZT(x/30/70) 박막의 피로 특성에 관한 연구 (Fatigue Characteristics of PLZT(x/30/70) Thin Films with Various La Concentrations)

  • 비휘발성 메모리 소자로의 응용의 관점에서, sol-gel 방법으로 PLZT(x/30/70) 박막을 제작하여 La 농도에 따른 구조적 및 전기적 특성을 조사하였다 La 농도가 0 에서 $10mol\%$ 로 증가함에 따라, PLZT 박막의 유전상수는 450 에서 600 으로 증가된 반면, 유전손실과 100kV/cm에서 측정한 누설전류밀도는 각각 0.075 에서 0.025 로 $5.83{\times}10^{-7}$에서 $1.38{\times}10^{-7}A/cm^2$ 으로 감소되었다. 175kV/cm 에서 측정한 PLZT 박막의 이력곡선을 측정한 결과, La 농도가 0 에서 $10mol\%$ 로 증가함에 따라 박막의 잔류분극과 항전계는 각각 20.8에서 $10.5{\mu}C/cm^2,$ 54.48 에서 32.12kV/cm 로 감소되었다. PLZT 박막에 ${\pm}5V$ 의 사각펄스를 $10^9$ 회 인가하여 피로특성을 측정한 결과, La 농도가 증가함에 따라 초기 분극값의 감소가 64 에서 $40\%$ 로 개선됨을 확인할 수 있었다.

Internal modifications to reduce pollutant emissions from marine engines. A numerical approach

  • Taking into account the increasingly stringent legislation on emissions from marine engines, this work aims to analyze several internal engine modifications to reduce $NO_x$ (nitrogen oxides) and other pollutants. To this end, a numerical model was employed to simulate the operation cycle and characterize the exhaust gas composition. After a preliminary validation process was carried out using experimental data from a four-stroke, medium-speed marine engine, the numerical model was employed to study the influence of several internal modifications, such as water addition from 0 to 100% water to fuel ratios, exhaust gas recirculation from 0 to 100% EGR rates, modification of the overlap timing from 60 to $120^{\circ}$, modification of the intake valve closing from 510 to $570^{\circ}$, and modification of the cooling water temperature from 70 to $90^{\circ}C$. $NO_x$ was reduced by nearly 100%. As expected, it was found that, by lowering the combustion temperature, there is a notable reduction in $NO_x$, but an increase in CO (carbon monoxide), HC (hydrocarbons) and consumption.

졸-겔법으로 제조한 ZrO2·SiO2계 결정화 유리의 결정화 및 파괴인성에 관한 연구 (A Study of Crystallization and Fracture Toughness of Glass Ceramics in the ZrO2·SiO2 Systems Prepared by the Sol-Gel Method)

  • Precursor gels with the composition of $xZrO_2{\cdot}(100-x)SiO_2$ systems (x=10, 20 and 30 mol%) were prepared by the sol-gel method. Kinetic parameters, such as activation energy, Avrami's exponent, n, and dimensionality crystal growth value, m, have been simultaneously calculated from the DTA data using Kissinger and Matusita equations. The crystallite size dependence on tetragonal to monoclinic transformation of $ZrO_2$ was investigated using XRD, in relation to the fracture toughness. The crystallization of tetragonal $ZrO_2$ occurred through 3-dimensional diffusion controlled growth(n=m=2) and the activation energy for crystallization was calculated using Kissinger and Matusita equations, as about $310{\sim}325{\pm}10kJ/mol$. The growth of $t-ZrO_2$, in proportion to the cube of radius, increased with increasing heating temperature and heat-treatment time. It was suggested that the diffusion of Zr4+ions by Ostwald ripening was rate-limiting process for the growth of $t-ZrO_2$ crystallite size. The fracture toughness of $xZrO_2{\cdot}(100-x)SiO_2$ systems glass ceramics increased with increasing crystallite size of $t-ZrO_2$. The fracture toughness of $30ZrO_2{\cdot}70SiO_2$ system glass ceramics heated at $1,100^{\circ}C$ for 5 h was $4.84Mpam^{1/2}$ at a critical crystaliite size of 40 nm.

능금산법으로 제조된 페롭스카이트형 산화물에서 벤젠의 촉매연소반응 (Catalytic Combustion of Benzene over Perovskite-type Oxides Prepared Using Malic Acid Method)

  • 페롭스카이트형 산화물을 능금산법으로 합성하여 TG/DTA, XRD, XPS, TEM 및 $H_2$-TPR 등에 의해 특성분석을 하였고, 벤젠의 연소반응에서의 활성을 조사하였다. 대부분의 촉매들은 페롭스카이트 결정구조를 잘 가지고 있었으며 15에서 70 nm의 크기를 나타내었다. $LaMnO_3$ 촉매가 가장 높은 활성을 보여주었고 $350^{\circ}C$에서 거의 100%의 전환율을 나타내었다. 반응활성을 증가시키기 위해 페롭스카이트 산화물의 A-와 B-위치에 다른 금속이온의 치환을 행하였다. $LaMnO_3$ 촉매의 A-위치에 Sr을 일부분 치환시키면 벤젠의 전환율이 증가하였다. 또한, B-위치에 Co 및 Cu 이온의 치환 역시 촉매 활성을 증가시켰고, $LaMn_{1-x}B_xO_3$ (B = Co, Fe, Cu)형 페롭스카이트에서 촉매활성은 Co > Cu > Fe의 순서로 감소하였다.

구기자 추출물의 최적 항산화 추출조건 모니터링 (Monitoring for optimum antioxidant extraction condition of Gugija (Lycium chinensis Mill) extract)

  • 본 연구는 구기자 항산화 성분의 최적 추출과 항산화 활성의 변화를 모니터링 하였다. 건조 구기자의 추출 조건은 에탄올 농도($X_1$, 0~80%) 및 추출 시간($X_2$, 1~5 hr)이며, 종속변수로는 수율, 안토시아닌, 플라보노이드 및 DPPH 라디컬 소거능으로 반응표면분석을 실시하였다. 가용성 고형분 수율, 안토시아닌, 플라보노이드 및 DPPH 라디컬 소거능에 대한 회귀식의 $R^2$은 각각 0.9066, 0.9859, 0.8645, 0.9464로 1~10%의 유의수준에서 유의성이 인정되었다. 건조 구기자 가용성 고형분 수율이 가장 높은 추출 조건은 에탄올 농도 8.25%에서 4.22 hr 추출한 것(23.12%)으로 나타났다. 안토시아닌이 가장 높은 추출 조건은 에탄올 농도 79.98%에서 3.06 hr 추출한 것(흡광도 1.43)으로 나타났다. 플라보노이드의 가장 높은 추출 조건은 에탄올 농도 67.02%에서 3.37 h 추출한 것($3,100{\mu}g/100g$)으로 나타났다. 그리고 DPPH 라디컬 소거능이 가장 높은 추출 조건은 에탄올 농도 69.81%에서 1.67 h 추출한 것(96.93%)으로 나타났다. 안토시아닌, 플라보노이드 및 DPPH 라디컬 소거능에 대한 등고선도를 겹쳐 그려 얻은 최적 조건(에탄올 농도 70% 및 추출 시간 2,5 hr)으로 추출된 추출물의 안토시아닌은 1.0080(흡광도) 이었으며, 플라보노이드 함량은 $3,145{\mu}g/100g$, 그리고 DPPH 라디컬 소거능은 97%로써 증류수로 1시간 추출한 대조구(안토시아닌 0.4652(흡광도), 플라보노이드 $1,633{\mu}g/100g$ 및 DPPH 라디컬 소거능 87%)에 비해 높은 항산화 성분 추출 및 항산화 효과를 나타내었다.

Gamma radiation attenuation properties of tellurite glasses: A comparative study

  • This work investigated the radiation attenuation characteristics of three series of tellurite glass systems with the following compositions: 30PbO-10ZnO-xTeO2-(60-x)B2O3 where x = 10, 30, 40, 50 and 60 mol%, xBaO-xB2O3-(100-2x)TeO2 with x = 15-40 mol% and 50ZnO-(50-x)P2O5-xTeO2, where x = 0, 10, .40 mol%. The results revealed that the attenuation parameters in all the samples decrease with increase in the energy, which implied that all the samples have better interaction with gamma photons at low energies and thus higher photon attenuating efficiency. From the three systems, the samples coded as PbZnBTe60, BaBTe70 and ZnPTe40 have the lowest half value layer values and accordingly have superior photon attenuation efficacy. The maximum effective atomic number values were found for energy less than 0.1 MeV particularly near the K-edges absorption of the heavy atomic number elements such as Te, Ba and Pb. At the lowest energy, the Zeff values are found in the range of 62.33-66.25, 49.43-50.81 and 24.99-35.83 for series 1-3 respectively. Also, we found that the density of the glass remarkably affects the photon attenuation ability of the selected glasses. The mean free path results showed that the PbO-ZnO-TeO2-B2O3 glass system has better radiation shielding efficiency than the glass samples in series 2 and 3.

Comparison of Personal Characteristic Factors Relating to Quality of Life in Patients with End-Stage Renal Disease

  • Objective: The objective of this study was to compare the quality of life (QOL) of patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) between patients receiving hemodialysis (HD) and patients receiving continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) and to compare personal characteristic factors relating to the quality of life in patients with ESRD. Method: This study used a descriptive research design. The sample was recruited using purposive sampling that included 76 ESRD patients receiving either HD or CAPD at a dialysis clinic in Phraphutthabat Hospital, Saraburi Province, Thailand. Data was collected using the Quality of Life Questionnaire for Chronic Kidney Disease ($KDQOL-SF^{TM}$) version 1.3. Independent t-test and ANOVA procedures were used to analyze study data. Results: The results revealed that the HD patients had a moderate level of QOL. The highest scoring dimension of QOL was the encouragement of staff at the dialysis unit and patient satisfaction with the treatment (${\bar{X}}=100$, SD=.00), followed by social support (${\bar{X}}=89.29$, SD =16.88) and cognitive function (${\bar{X}}=88.57$, SD=11.82). On the other hand, the lowest scoring QOL dimension was physical problems (${\bar{X}}=50$, SD=51.89), and pain (${\bar{X}}=50$, SD=39.03), followed by work status (${\bar{X}}=53.57$, SD=45.84) and burden from kidney disease (${\bar{X}}=58.48$, SD=31.07). The CAPD patients also had a moderate QOL. The highest scoring QOL dimension was the encouragement of staff in the renal unit and patient satisfaction with the treatment (${\bar{X}}=100$, SD=.00), followed by social support (${\bar{X}}=95.61$, SD=14.20) and cognitive function (${\bar{X}}=88.83$, SD=13.52). The worst scoring QOL dimensions were work status (${\bar{X}}=44.44$, SD=42.72), general health (${\bar{X}}=53.61$, SD=39.05), and pain (${\bar{X}}=62.70$, SD=41.14). The difference overall and in each dimension of QOL in ESRD patients who were treated with HD and CAPD was not statistically significantly different. The QOL was not significantly different among patients with different personal characteristics except for income and duration of treatment; in those cases, the difference in QOL was statistically significant (p=.05). Conclusion: The overall QOL and life expectancy of patients with ESRD treated with HD and CAPD are not affected by gender, age, marital status, education, occupation, or type of health coverage. QOL was not significantly different, except for patients with different incomes and duration of renal replacement therapy, whose QOL was significantly different. The QOL of patients receiving dialysis should be studied to develop a QOL program for patients with chronic kidney disease who receive dialysis.
