Effects of Ni Addition on the Microstructures and Magnetic Properties of Fe70-xPd30Nix High-Temperature Ferromagnetic Shape Memory Alloys

  • This study investigated the effects of adding a third alloying element, Ni, to create $Fe_{70-x}Pd_{30}Ni_x$ (x = 2, 4, 6, 8 at.% Ni) ferromagnetic shape memory alloys (FSMAs). The Ni replaced a portion of the Fe. The $Fe_{70-x}Pd_{30}Ni_x$ alloys were homogenized through hot and cold forging to gain a ~38% reduction in thickness, next they were solution-treated (ST) with annealing recrystallization at $1100^{\circ}C$ for 8 h and quenched in ice brine, and then aged at $500^{\circ}C$ for 100 h. Investigation of the microstructures and magnetostriction indicated that the greater Ni amount in the $Fe_{70-x}Pd_{30}Ni_x$ alloys reduced saturation magnetostriction at room temperature (RT). It was also observed that it was more difficult to generate annealed recrystallization. However, with greater Ni addition into the $Fe_{70-x}Pd_{30}Ni_x$ (x = 6, 8 at.% Ni) alloys, the $L1_0+L1_m$ twin phase decomposition into stoichiometric $L1_0+L1_m+{\alpha}_{bct}$ structures was suppressed after the $500^{\circ}C$/100 h aging treatment. The result was that the $Fe_{70-x}Pd_{30}Ni_x$ (x = 6, 8 at.% Ni) alloys maintained a high magnetostriction and magnetostrictive susceptibility (${\Delta}{\lambda}{_\parallel}{^s}/{\Delta}H$) after the alloys were aged at $500^{\circ}C$ for 100 h. This magnetic property of the $Fe_{70-x}Pd_{30}Ni_x$ (x = 6, 8 at.% Ni) alloys make it suitable for application in a high temperature (T > $500^{\circ}C$) and high frequency environments.

  • In this paper, the PAE of tube voltage of 93 diagnostic X-ray units those are using at the 19 general hospitals and 9 local clinics in the area of Sungnam, Inchun, and Seoul have been surveyed. The results are summarized as following. 1. PAE of tube Voltage 70, 100KV at the 56 (60%) X-ray units were ${\pm}7%$ below, at the 8 units (9%), were ${\pm}7%$ above, and those 29 X-ray units (31%) were ${\pm}7%$ below or above with the 70, 100KV tube Voltage in a unit. 2. PAE ${\pm}7%$ below were 68 X-ray units, at the low tube voltage (70KV), and 76 X-ray units at the high tube Voltage (100KV). 3. For six year-use abofe, used X-ray units were PAE ${\pm}7%$ above, and so, the longer used years the more X-ray units became declined in those performance. 4. PAE of tube Voltage were better efficiency at the large capacity 30 X-ray units than small capacity 10. 5. PAE ${\pm}7%$ abovein were only 8 units among 84 diagnostic X-ray units in the general hospitals.

Structural and Magnetic Properties of Epitaxial FexCo100-x Alloys Grown on Cr Substrate

  • We report the correlation between the magnetic properties and lattice parameter of $Fe_xCo_{100-x}$ alloys as a function of constituent concentration. The saturation magnetization increases with Fe content and has a maximum value at approximately x=70 at.%. However, collapse in relative saturation magnetization is observed at approximately 30 at.% to 70 at.% of Fe in $Fe_xCo_{100-x}$ alloys. The collapse is due to the formation of Co-Co and Fe-Fe antibonding states instead of Fe-Co bonds. The lattice parameter also shrinks at approximately 30 at.% to 70 at.% of Fe. This shrinkage is due to an increase in the number of nearest neighbor antisite atoms, which then leads to a decrease in the long range order parameter.

  • Purpose: To find optimized luminosity factor of color from light transmission filter. Methods: To make $Y_{1-x}G_{x}$, $Y_{1-x}P_{x}$ by using CR-39 compound within dipping method, mixing up Y(Yellow), G(green) and P(pink) for optimize eye sensitivity. Modeling for relative luminous efficiency(relative sensitivity) curves in Luminose transmission, it could be resolved by Multiplying sensitivity of eye within transmission rate of Lens ($P_f({\lambda}=T({\lambda}){\cdot}P({\lambda}).)$.). To evaluate Wavelength between 400~700 nm, relative luminous efficiency curve in Area and Height value is being used. Results: In color filter of $Y_{1-x}G_{x}$ position of x equals to 0.04, 0.1, 0.08, 0.12, 0.14, 0.5 at ${\beta}=S_1/S_0{\cdot}100$ each consist value of 76.1, 77.9, 80.7, 81.6, 80.2, 18.6 In color filter of $Y_{1-x}P_{x}$ position of x equals to 1.00, 0.2, 0.6, 0.8 at ${\beta}=S_1/S_0{\cdot}100$ each consist value of 74.3, 74.0, 70.5, 33.0 The result from experiment $Y_{1-x}P_{x}$ value less than $Y_{1-x}G_{x}$, from evaluating luminous efficiency curve and test was successfully optimized. Conclusions: Optimized relative luminous efficiency curve result have value of X=0.12-0.14 at $Y_{1-x}G_{x}$.

  • Ferroelectric $Bi_{4-x}$La$_{x}$Ti$_3$O$_{12}$ (BLT)thin films with various compositions(x=0.65, 0.70, 0.75) were prepared on Pt//Ti/SiO$_2$/Si(100) substrate by metal-organic deposition. The electrical and structural characteristics of BLT thin films were investigated to develop ferroelectric thin films for capacitor layers of FRAM. After spin coating, thin films were annealed at $650^{\circ}C$ for 1hour in oxygen atomosphere. Scanning electron micrographs showed uniform surfaces composed of rod-like grains. The $Bi_{4-x}$La$_{x}$Ti$_3$O$_{12}$ (x=0.70) thin film capacitors with a Pt top electrode showed better ferroelectric properties than other films. At the applied voltage of 5V, the dielectric constant($\varepsilon$$_{r}$), dissipation factor(tan$\delta$),remanent polarization(2Pr), and coercive field(2Ec) of the $Bi_{4-x}$La$_{x}$Ti$_3$O$_{12}$ (x=0.70)thin films were about 272.54, 0.059, 32.4 $\mu$C/cm$^2$, 2Ec=119.9kV/cm. Also the capacitor did not show any significant fatigue up to 4.8$\times$10$^{10}$ read/write switching cycles.hing cycles.s.

Fabrication of nonequilibrium alloy powders in immiscible Cu-Nb system by mechanical alloying (기계적 합금화에 의한 비고용 Cu-Nb계 비평형 합금의 제조)

  • Mechanical alloying (MA) by high energy ball mill of pure copper and niobium powders was carried out under the Ar gas atmosphere. The supersaturated solid solution can be produced in the range up to $Cu_xNb_{100-x}$(x=5-30) by MA for 120 hrs, as demonstrated by X-ray diffraction, DSC analysis and the electronic studies through a change in the superconducting transition in the low-temperature specific heat. The $Cu_{30}Nb_{70}$ samples ball-milled for 120 hrs exhibit only a broad exothermic heat release. The total energy, ${\Delta}H_t$ accumulated during MA far the mixture of $Cu_{30}Nb_{70}$ powders increased with milling time and approached the saturation value of 7.5 kJ/mol after 120 h of milling. It can be seen that the free energy difference between the supersaturated solid solution and the mixture of $Cu_{30}Nb_{70}$ powders is estimated to be 7 kJ/mol by Miedema et al. Hence it is thermodynamically possible to assume the formation of a supersaturated solid solution phase in this system.

Mechanical Properties of High Strength Hot Strips For Line Pipe Application (라인파이프용 고강도 열연강판의 기계적 성질)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of alloying and rolling condition on the mechanical properties and to develop high strength line pipe steels with good toughness. Tests were carried out by the laboratory experiments followed by mill trials and mass production. It was found that a small addition of microalloying elements, such as Nb, V with Mo or Ti remarkably increased the strength and toughness of hot strips. The optimum condition of thermomechanical rolling on low carbon microalloyed steel improved the toughness through the formation of a fine and uniform microstructure. Based on this mill trials following the fundamental research, the production technology of line pipe steels, grade X70∼X100 with high toughness, has been established. These grade steels exhibit excellent low temperature toughness (vTs= under -80$^{\circ}C$) and sufficient strength in both the base metal and the ERW seam weld position, respectively.

  • In this study, chemical solution mixing and hydrogen reduction method was used to fabricate nanostructured $Fe_xCo_{1-x}$ alloy powders. Fe-Co chloride mixture, FeCl$_2$ and COCI$_2$ with 99.9% purity, were reduced in hydrogen atmosphere. Nanostructured Fe-Co alloy powders with a grain size of 50 nm were successfully fabricated. Magnetic properties of fabricated $Fe_xCo_{1-x}$(x=0, 10, 30, 50, 70, 100) alloy powders with the same grain size were measured because size factor can affect magnetic properties. Coercivity of Fe-Co alloy powders were increased with increasing Co contents. Maximum value of coercivity in various Co contented Fe-Co alloy powders with similar grain size was 125 Oe at Fe$_{100}$. Saturation magnetization value at Fe$_{70}$Co$_{30}$ composition showed maximum value of 219 emu/g and saturation magnetization value decreased with increasing Co contents and minimum value of 155 emu/g was observed at Co$_{100}$.

  • Two anhydrous crystal structures of fully dehydrated, $Ca^{2+}$- and $Tl^+$-exchanged zeolite X, TEX>$Ca_{18}Tl_{56}Si_{100}Al_{92}O_{384}($Ca_{18}Tl_{56}$-X;\alpha=24.883(4)\AA)$ and TEX>$Ca_{32}Tl_{28}Si_{100}Al_{92}O_{384}($Ca_{32}Tl_{28}$-X;\alpha=24.973(4)\AA)$ per unit cell, have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques in the cubic space group Fd3 at $21(1)^{\circ}C.$ $Ca_{18}Tl_{56}-X$ was prepared by ion exchange in a flowing stream of 0.045 M aqueous $Ca(NO_3)_2$ and 0.005 M $TlNO_3$. $Ca_{32}Tl_{28}-X$ was prepared similarly using a mixed solution of 0.0495 M $Ca(NO_3)_2$ and 0.0005M $TlNO_3$. Each crystal was then dehydrated at 360 $^{\circ}C$ and $2{\times}10^{-6}$ Torr for 2 days. Their structures were refined to the final error indices, $R_1=0.039\;and\;R_2=0.036$ with 382 reflections for $Ca_{18}Tl_{56}-X$ , and $R_1=0.046\;and\;R_2=0.045$ with 472 reflections for $Ca_{32}Tl_{28}$-X for which $/>3\sigma(I).$ In the structures of dehydrated $Ca_{18}Tl_{56^-}X\;and\;Ca_{32}Tl_{28}$-X, $Ca^{2+}\;and\;Tl^+$ ions are located at six crystallographic sites. Sixteen $Ca^{2+}$ ions fill the octahedral sites I at the centers of double six rings ($Ca_{18}Tl_{56}$-X:Ca-O=2.42(1) and O-Ca-O=93.06(4)$^{\circ}$; $Ca_{32}Tl_{28}$-X Ca-O=2.40(1) $\AA$ and O-Ca-O=93.08(3)$^{\circ}$). In the structure of $Ca_{18}Tl_{56}$-X, another two $Ca^{2+}$ ions occupy site II (Ca-O=2.35(2) $\AA$ and O-Ca-O=111.69(2)$^{\circ}$) and twenty six $Tl^+$ ions occupy site II opposite single six-rings in the supercage; each is 1.493 $\AA$ from the plane of three oxygens $(Tl-O=2.70(8)\AA$ and O-Tl-O=92.33(4)$^{\circ}$). About four $Tl^+$ ions are found at site II',1.695 $\AA$ into sodalite cavity from their three oxygen plane (Tl-O=2.81 (1) and O-Tl-O=87.48(3)). The remaining twenty six $Tl^+$ ions are distributed over site III'(Tl-O=2.82 (1) $\AA$ and Tl-O=2.88(3)$^{\circ}$). In the structure of $Ca_{32}Tl_{28}$-X, sixteen $Ca^{2+}$ ions and fifteen $Tl^+$ ions occupy site III' (Ca-O=2.26(1) $\AA$ and O-Ca-O=119.14(4)$^{\circ}$; Tl-O=2.70(1) $\AA$ and O-Tl-O=92.38$^{\circ}$) and one $Tl^+$ ion occupies site II'. The remaining twelve $Tl^+$ ions are distributed over site III'. It appears that $Ca^{2+}$ ions prefer sites I and II in that order and $Tl^+$ ions occupy the remaining sites.

Development of Monoenergetic Photon Source in the Energe Range below 100 keV by the X-ray Fluorescence Method (형광 X 선을 이용한 100 KeV 이하의 에너지 영역에서의 단색 Photon 선원개발에 관한 연구)

  • The development of mono energetic photon sources using $K_{\alpha}$ fluorescence X-ray of pure material was carried out in the energy range below 100 keV. The monoenergetic photons are very useful in the calibration of the radiation measuring instruments and can be produced as the $K_{\alpha}$ fluorescence X-ray by irradiating the bremsstrahlung to the thin pure metal foils called ‘radiators’. In this experiment, several radiators such as $_{47}Ag,\;_{50}Sn,\;_{68}Er,\;_{70}Yb,\;and\;_{82}Pb$ provide the wide monoenergetic photon energy ranging from 20 keV to 80 keV. By the spectrometry with HpGe LEPS, spectral purity factors which measure the monochrometicity for the $K_{\alpha}$ fluorescence X-ray, were determined as $0.64{\sim}0.94$. Dosimetry for the purpose of the determination of the exposure rate with a 600cc thin window ionization chamber, which was calibrated by the standard free-air ionization chamber, was performed. Exposure rates ranging $8.3{\sim}232.5mR/h$ was obtained according to the $K_{\alpha}$ fluorescence X-ray energy for each radiator.
