In this study, we report on an investigation of proton radiation resistance of 410 martensitic stainless steels under 3 MeV proton with the doses ranging from $1.0{\times}10^{15}$ to $1.0{\times}10^{17}p/cm^2$ at the temperature 623 K. Vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) and X-ray diffractometer (XRD) were used to study the variation of magnetic properties and structural damages by virtue of proton irradiation, respectively. VSM and XRD analysis revealed that the 410 martensitic stainless steels showed proton radiation resistance up to $10^{17}p/cm^2$. Proton energy degradation and flux attenuations in 410 stainless steels as a function of penetration depth were calculated by using Stopping and Range of Ions in Matter (SRIM) code. It suggested that the 410 stainless steels have the radiation resistance up to $5.2{\times}10^{-3}$ dpa which corresponds to neutron irradiation of $3.5{\times}10^{18}n/cm^2$. These results could be used to predict the maintenance period of SUS410 stainless steels in fission power plants.

To utilize hydrogen energy, high-yield, high-purity hydrogen needs to be produced; therefore, hydrogen separation membrane studies are being conducted. The membrane reactor that fabricates hydrogen needs to have high hydrogen permeability, selective permeability, heatresistant and a stable mechanical membrane. Dense membranes of Pd and Pd alloys are usually used, but these have drawbacks associated with high cost and durability. Therefore, many researchers have studied replacing Pd and Pd alloys. Dense TiN membrane is highly selective and can separate high-purity hydrogen. The porous alumina has a high permeation rate but low selectivity; therefore, separating high-purity hydrogen is difficult. To overcome this drawback, the two materials are combined as composite reclamations to produce a separation membrane with a high penetration rate and high selectivity. Accordingly, TiN-alumina was manufactured using a high-energy ball mill. The TiN-alumina membrane was characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis, scanning electron microscopy, and energy dispersive spectroscopy. The hydrogen permeability of the TiN-alumina membrane was estimated by a Sievert-type hydrogen permeation membrane apparatus. Due to the change in the diffusion mechanism, the transmittance value was lower than that of the general TiN ceramic separator.

A ferrosilicon (FS) by-product was applied into a cementitious binder in concrete substituting the ordinary Portland cement (OPC). The original material characteristic of FS is very identical to silica fume (SF) regarding chemical composition and physical properties such as specific surface area and specific gravity. Therefore, the FS and SF concrete or mortal of which 10% of the material was replaced to total binder weight were fabricated to evaluate the feasibility of using F S as a binder, and the comparative information of OPC, FS and SF concrete was given. The hydration characteristic of FS concrete was analyzed using X-ray diffraction analysis. The FS concrete was beneficial in compressive strength, resistivity against chloride ingress and reducing porosity considering performance of OPC concrete but the advantage was less than using SF. A possibility of alkali-silica expansion was found out from the FS concrete due to the agglomerated size of the silica particles.
The purpose of this study was to determine the fluroide release levels of new fluoride-containing liner/base cements and the fluoride uptake by dentin surfaces. Ten specimens of each brand (Fuji ionomer Type III, Fuji Lining LC, Timeline, Vitrebond and XR ionomer) were made, polymerized and placed in fluoride-free distilled water at $37^{\circ}C$, 100% relative humidity for 24 hours. The extracting solution of specimen was exchanged and fluoride release was measured daily for the 30 days. For fluoride uptake study, twenty-five extracted human lower molars were sectioned longitudinally in the mesiodistal direction with a diamond disc. Five teeth were filled with each material and then stored at $37^{\circ}C$, 100% humidity for 4 weeks. Fluoride uptake by dentin from the test materials was evaluated using electron probe micro X-ray analyzer. The following results were obtained : 1. The amounts of fluoride release showed no significant difference between Fuji ionomer Type III and Fuji Lining LC, but showed significant difference between other groups. XR ionomer released significantly greater fluoride than any other group(P<.001). 2. All the materials have a burst effect which more fluoride released in then first 3 day and showed significant decrease over the test period (P<0.001). 3. XR ionomer group showed fluoride penetration to approximately $50{\mu}m$ deep in dentin. But other material groups showed very little fluoride uptake by dentin.

Many studies regarding Casein phosphopeptides-amorphous calcium phosphate(CPP-ACP) have demonstrated the remineralization ability on the demineralized enamel surface. A question is still remained that how deep can the calcium (Ca) and phosphorus (P) ions supplied by the CPP-ACP paste penetrate into the enamel subsurface. The aims of this study were to measure the penetrating depth of Ca and P ions in the demineralized human enamel in vitro, and were to determine the amount and depth of Ca and P ions according to the duration. The amount and depth of Ca and P ions were measured by microscopic observation with Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM; LEO SUPRA 55, Carl Zeiss, Germany) and Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectrometer (EDS; GENESIS 2000, EDAX, USA: Linescan of Calcium and Phosphorus). Freshly extracted four human 1st premolars were obtained from the Dept. of Pediatric Dent., Kyung Hee Univ. Buccal surfaces of the 1st premolars were covered with nail varnish to form a window on the middle third of buccal surface. All of the teeth with enamel windows were immersed in a solution of 0.1 M lactic acid, Carbopol C907 (carboxypolymethylene BF Goodrich, Cleveland, OH, USA) at pH 4.8, and then incubated for 7 days. Each tooth crown was sawn in half through the midline of buccal window along the long axis of premolar. The four blocks of premolars were immersed in a 10-times diluted solution of CPP-ACP paste (Tooth Mousse, GC Corp., Tokyo, Japan) for 1, 2, 3 and 5 weeks while the rests were immersed in a placebo solution (distilled water) for the same duration. Each specimen was embedded in epoxy resin, and was sectioned perpendicular to the window, using a water-cooled diamond blade saw. The spectrum density indices of Ca and P were measured in the sound, de- and remineralized enamels by FE-SEM and EDS. The Student's t test was performed to compare the Spectrum Density Indices (SDI) of sound, re-and demineralized enamels, and to compare the differences among the durations. Followings are the conclusion : 1. The penetration depth of the remineralizing ions (Ca & P) of CPP-ACP paste is related to the depth of demineralized enamel (approximately $1050{\sim}1350{\mu}m$). It is revealed that the penetration depth of both ions reaches full thickness of decalcification and even slightly into the sound enamel. 2. The Ca & P levels of remineralized enamels in 1, 2 weeks were significantly higher than those of the sound enamels (p<0.05). 3. No statistically significant difference of Ca & P levels was found in relation with the increasing duration of remineralization (p>0.05).

The energy response of HPGe detector for low energy Photons was determined by using three Monte Carlo codes. MCNP4A. EGS4, and CYLTRAN in ITS3. In this study. bare HPGe detector$(100 mm^2{\times}10mm)$ was used and a pencil beam was incident perpendicularly on the center of the detector surface. The photopeak efficiency, $K_{\alpha}$ and $K_{\beta}$ escape fractions were calculated as a function of incident X-ray energies ranging from 12 to 60 keV in 2-keV increments. Since the Compton. elastic. ana penetration fraction were negligible in this energy range. they were ignored in the calculation. Although MCNP. EGS, and CYLTRAN codes calculated slightly different energy response of HPGe detector for low energy Photons, it appears that the three Monte Carlo codes can Predict the low energy Photon scattering Processes accurately. The MCNP results, which are generally known as to be less accurate at low energy ranges than the EGS and ITS results. are comparable to the results of EGS and ITS and are applicable to the calculation of the low energy response data of a detector.
Carbon dots (CDs) are few nanometer-sized carbon-based nanoparticles and emerging candidate materials in various fields such as biosensors and bioimaging due to their excellent optical properties and high biocompatibility. However, most CDs, emitting blue light, have limited their application in biomedical fields due to the low penetration of short-wavelength lights into the biological system. Therefore, there has been enormous need to develop long-wavelength emitting CDs. In this study, red-emitting CDs were successfully synthesized through the hydrothermal reaction of p-phenylenediamine with hydrochloric acid. In addition, the effect of the amount of hydrochloric acid on the formation of carbon dots, resulting in the variation of the chemical structures of CDs, were investigated, which was confirmed with the intensive structural analyses using infrared and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. It was found that the chemical structure of CDs governed their optical properties and quantum yield. Therefore, this study provides an insight into the role of acid in forming red-emitting CDs as the optimal probe for biomedical application.

Preparations of mesoporous materials using various templates and their applicability have been intensively investigated for many years. We studied on synthesizing mesoporous Ti02 with pores in which sensitive compounds having weak physico-chemical properties such as thermal or UV irradiation and low solubility in solvent are trapped. Prior to trapping OMC in the pores of mesoporous titania, OMC was nano-emulsified in O/W system using Lecithin. Thereafter the OMC was trapped in the pores of mesoporous titania using sol-gel method. Main focus of this work is to prepare OMC-trapped mesoporous titania and to trace the stability and solubility of nano-emulsified OMC in the pores of mesoporous titania, and compared with that of mesoporous silica. OMC-trapped mesoporous Inorganic-Organic hybrid titania showed higher factors in sun protecting and a skin penetration phenomenon was reduced.

Purpose: This study was planned to evaluate complications? of posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) reconstruction with tibial inlay technique using autogenous bone-patellar tendon-bone graft. Materials and Methods: From September 1994 to January 2004, we analyzed surgical complications in fifty-seven patients with fifty-eight cases who underwent PCL reconstruction. Fifty of them were male and seven female. The mean age of the patients was 35(15$\~$73). Twenty eight cases of injury were isolated PCL, while thirty cases had associated injury of knee. The causes of injury were thirty-nine cases of traffic accident, seven sport injuries, seven fall down injuries, and five of others. The follow-up study was done at 4 weeks, 3 months,6 months and 1 year after surgery. KT-2000 arthrometer and posterior stress X-ray were used to examine the stability of the knee joint and the Lysholm Knee Score and a variety of clinical complications were evaluated. Results: Although the mean score of the preoperative Lysholm Knee Score was 43.2, the postoperative score was increased to 87.9. The preoperative mean value of knee stability using KT-2000 arthrometer was 8.75 mm(6.2$\~$14.3 mm) but the postoperative mean was 3.41 mm(2.1$\~$10.6 mm). The intraoperative complications were: one case of popliteal artery injury with compartment syndrome, one case of patellar fracture, two cases of 20$^{\circ}$ flexion loss, and two cases of anterior cortical penetration of the screw through proximal tibia during screw fixation. The postoperative complications were: eleven cases of knee instability, one case of patellar fracture, five cases of extension loss, thirteen cases of flexion loss, twenty-one cases of around knee pain and eight cases of kneeling pain. Conclusion: After PCL reconstruction with tibial inlay technique using autogenous bone-patella tendon-bone graft, complications were observed in this study. Careful attention during and after the operation, as well as rehabilitation must be required.
