A Component Model for Managing Covid-19 Crisis

  • Covid-19 posed a serious threat to public health worldwide, especially in the absence of vaccines or medicines. The only viable strategies to combat a virus with a high infection rate were to apply lock-down strategies, transport ban, social and physical distancing. In this work, we provide a domain-specific component model for crisis management. The model allows for building a plan for managing Covid-19 crisis and use the plan as a template to generate a system specific for managing that crisis. The crisis component model is derived from X-MAN II, a generic component model that we have developed for the aircraft industry

  • This paper describes the development of the test path for Eclipse-II, a parallel mechanism motion simulator. Eclipse-II which can be used as a base for general motion simulators, enables unlimited continuous 360-degree spinning in any rotational axes plus finite X, Y, and Z translation motions. The advantage of enabling continuous 360-degree spinning allows various motions for virtual reality. In this paper, the development of the test path to verify the robustness of the Eclipse-II motion simulator is described. The test motions, which satisfy the requirements of test path, are suggested and washout filter enables these motions reproduced in the limited workspace. The trial run is conducted to verify the robustness of the Eclipse-II motion simulator. Additionally the standard data format of virtual reality for Eclipse-II One Man Ride is suggested.

  • The approximate crystal structure of benzidine monoperchlorate has been determined by single crystal X-Ray diffraction technique and patterson method. As the molecule has a center of symmetry in it and location of perchlorate ion is symmetrically on the mirror plane in the unit cell, perchlorate ion is forming hydrogen bond with two -$NH_2$ groups in the different molecule. Thus, one molecule of benzidine and perchloric acid combines 1:1 by mole ratio.

  • We present the analysis and design of a new six degree-of-freedom parallel mechanism, Eclipse-II, which can be used as a basis for general motion simulators. This mechanism allows x, y and z-axis translations and a, b and c-axis rotations. Most significantly, it presents the advantage of enabling continuous 360 degrees spinning of the platform. We first describe the computational procedures for the forward and in inverse kinematics of the Eclipse-II. Next, the complete singularity analysis is presented for the two cases of end-effector and actuator singularities. Two additional actuators are added to the original mechanism to eliminate both types of singularities with in the workspace. Some practical aspects of the prototype development are introduced.

  • The crystal structure of partially dehydrated fully $Zn^{2+}$-exchanged zeolite Y was determined by X-ray diffraction techniques in the cubic space group $Fd\bar{3}m$ at 294(1) K and refined to the final error indices $R_1/wR_2$ = 0.035/0.119 for $|Zn_{35.5}(H_2O)_{13}|[Si_{121}Al_{71}O_{384}]$-FAU. About 35.5 $Zn^{2+}$ ions per unit cell are found at six distinct positions; sites I, I', a second I', II', II, and a second II. In sodalite cavities, the 11 water molecules coordinate to Zn(I'b) and/or Zn(II') ions; each of two $H_2O$ bonds to a Zn(IIb) in supercages. Two different $Zn^{2+}$ positions near 6-oxygen ring are due to their Si-Al ordering in tetrahedral site by Si/Al ratio leading to the different kinds of 6-rings.

Cloning, Expression, and Regulation of Bovine Cellular Retinoic Acid-binding Protein-II (CRABP-II) during Adipogenesis

  • The mammalian cellular retinoic acid-binding proteins, CRABP-I and CRABP-II, bind retinoic acid which acts as an inducer of differentiation in several biological systems. To investigate a possible role for CRABP-II in bovine adipogenesis, we have cloned bovine CRABP-II cDNA and the coding region for CRABP-I. The predicted amino acid sequences of CRABP-II were highly conserved among several animal species (human, mouse, and rat at 97%, 93%, and 93%, respectively). The expression pattern of bovine CRABP-II was examined in greater details by applying RT-PCR to various bovine tissues. CRABP-II mRNA was expressed in most adipose-containing tissues. Moreover, the expression of CRABP-I and -II mRNA dramatically increased during the differentiation of adipocytes from bovine intramuscular fibroblast-like cells. The effects of retinoic acid on adipocyte differentiation of bovine intramuscular fibroblast-like cells were concentration-dependent. Retinoic acid activated the formation of lipid droplets at a level of 1 nM, whereas inhibition was observed at a level of $1{\mu}M$. CRABP-I gene was up-regulated and CRABP-II gene down-regulated by retinoic acid during adipocyte differentiation. These results suggest that CRABPs may play an important role in the regulation of intracellular retinoic acid concentrations during adipogenesis.

Investingation on the Relationship Scoliotic Curve and BMI, Cervical Lordosis Lumar Lordosis and Ferguson Angle in Spinal Scoliosis Patient (척추측만증 환자의 척추만곡도에 관한 고찰)

  • Objectives: To invesgate correlation between the scoliotic curve and BMI, cervical lordosis, lumbar lordosis and Ferguson angle in spinal scoliotic patient. Methods: The study was composed of 14 scoliosis patients beyond cobb'a angle $10^{\circ}$ (sample I group) and 15 scoliosis patients over cobb'a angle $10^{\circ}$ (sample II group). The patients were evaluated with X-ray findings of full spine AP and lateral views and statistically analyzed. Results: 1. Sample II group showed a significant decrease in BMI as compared with Sample I group(P<0.05). 2. Scoliotic curve had s negative relationship with $BMI({\gamma}=0.406)$ 3. Scolotic patients had a lower cervical angle than normal man. Conclusion: 1. The larger the scoliotic angle, the lower BMI 2. There are no concemed scoliotic curve and cervical lordosis, lumbar lordosis and Ferguson angle.

The Effect of Co2+-Ion Exchange Time into Zeolite Y (FAU, Si/Al = 1.56): Their Single-Crystal Structures

  • Three single crystals of fully dehydrated $Co^{2+}$-exchanged zeolite Y (Si/Al = 1.56) were prepared by the exchange of $Na_{75}$-Y ($|Na_{75}|[Si_{117}Al_{75}O_{384}]$-FAU) with aqueous streams 0.05 M in $Co(NO_3)_2$, pH = 5.1, at 294 K for 6 h, 12 h, and 18 h, respectively, followed by vacuum dehydration at 673 K. Their single-crystal structures were determined by synchrotron X-ray diffraction techniques in the cubic space group Fd3m at 100(1) K. They were refined to the final error indices $R_1/wR_2$ = 0.0437/0.1165, 0.0450/0.1228, and 0.0469/0.1278, respectively. Their unit-cell formulas are $|Co_{29.1}Na_{11.8}H_{5.0}|[Si_{117}Al_{75}O_{384}]$-FAU, $|Co_{29.8}Na_{11.0}H_{4.4}|[Si_{117}Al_{75}O_{384}]$-FAU, and $|Co_{30.3}Na_{9.5}H_{4.9}|[Si_{117}Al_{75}O_{384}]$-FAU, respectively. In all three crystals, $Co^{2+}$ ions occupy sites I, I' and II; $Na^+$ ions are also at site II. The tendency of $Co^{2+}$ exchange slightly increases with increasing contact time as $Na^+$ content and the unit cell constant of the zeolite framework decrease.

Synthesis and Single-crystal Structure of Fully Dehydrated Fully Ca2+exchanged Zeolite Y (FAU), |Ca35.5|[Si121Al71O384]-FAU

  • The single-crystal structure of |$Ca_{35.5}$|[$Si_{121}Al_{71}O_{384}$]-FAU, $Ca_{35.5}Si_{121}Al_{71}O_{384}$ per unit cell, a = 24.9020(10) $\AA$, dehydrated at 673 K and 2 ${\times}\;10^{-6}$Torr, has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques in the cubic space group Fd$\overline{3}$m at 294 K. The large single crystals of zeolite Y (Si/Al = 1.70) were synthesized up to diameters of ${\mu}m\;and\;Ca^{2+}$-exchanged zeolite Y were prepared by ion exchange in a batch method of 0.05 M aqueous Ca($NO_3)_2$ for 4 hrs at 294 K. The structure was refined using all intensities to the final error indices (using only the 971 reflections for which $F_o\;>\;4{\sigma}(F_o))\;R_1$ = 0.038 (based on F) and $R_2$ = 0.172 (based on $F^2$). About 35.5 $Ca^{2+}$ ions per unit cell are found at an unusually large number of crystallographically distinct positions, four. Nearly filling site I (at the centers of the double 6-rings), 14.5 octahedrally coordinated $Ca^{2+}$ ions (Ca-O = 2.4194(24) $\AA$ and O-Ca-O = 87.00(8) and 93.00($8^o$) are found per unit cell. One $Ca^{2+}$ ion per unit cell is located at site II’ in the sodalite cavity and extends 0.50 $\AA$ into the sodalite cavity from its 3-oxygen plane (Ca-O = 2.324(13) $\AA$ and O-Ca-O = 115.5(10)o). The remaining twenty $Ca^{2+}$ ions are found at two nonequivalent sites II (in the supercages) with occupancies of 10 and 10 ions, respectively. Each of these $Ca^{2+}$ ions coordinates to three framework oxygens, either at 2.283(3) or 2.333(5) $\AA$, respectively, and extends either 0.24 or 0.54 $\AA$, respectively, into the supercage from the three oxygens to which it is bound. In this crystal, site I is the most populated; sites II’ and II are only sparsely occupied.$Ca^{2+}$+ appears to fit the octahedral site I best. No cations are found at sites III or III’, which are clearly less favorable for $Ca^{2+}$ ions in dehydrated zeolite Y.

Nocturnal temperature distribution on orange orchards in Cheju Island (II) (제주도 감귤 과수원의 야간 기온 분포(II))

  • The Characteristics of nocturnal temperature fields were analyzed to understand the factors of freezing-and-cold damages on orange orchards in Cheju Island. Temperatures were measured from January 7th through 27, 1995 at 25 sites in an area of 1x1.25$ extrm{km}^2$, Wasan-ri, Chochon-up, Pukcheju-kun located on the northeastern slope of Mt.Hanla. Several other weather elements such as wind and cloud were observed as supplementary data. Surface weather maps were also analyzed to clarify the influence of prevailing pressure patterns on the temperature fields. The vertical temperature profiles were obtained at the height from the ground up to 360 cm in 30 cm intervals at site 3, a frost hollow, and site 10 on the upper slope. The results show that freezing damages occured in the hollows, terrain depressions, rather than at the upper slope due to nocturnal radiation cooling as well as accumulation of cold airflow from Mt.Hanla. Windbreaks of densely planted Japanese ceders with stone-walls also roled as obstacles to the cold airflow in nights with Clear skies and light winds. The maximum intensity of temperature inversion in hollows, quasi-cold air lake, was 3.1$^{\circ}C$. Cold air from Mt.Hanla was trapped in the depressions up to a height of 90cm forming frost pocket. Man-made facilities such as shelterbelt or stone-wall which are built to prevent the penetration of cold north-westeries in winter aggravated the cold damage. The differance of daily minimum temperatures between before and behind shelterbelts was 2.$0^{\circ}C$. The man-made convection by smudgin which raised the temperatures up to 3.8$^{\circ}C$ can reduce the cold damage in the hellows.
