  • In this paper, an X-Y channel dimming light emitting diode (LED) backlight with temperature compensation for in LCD TVs is proposed. It shows local dimming effects such as reduced power consumption and high dynamic contrast ratio even with much less number of LED drivers than that of the conventional two-dimensional local dimming method. Moreover, the image distortion caused by temperature variation of LED block can be effectively compensated. The validity of the proposed dimming method is verified by simulation and experimental results based on a RGB-LED backlight of a 32-inch LCD TV.

  • The effects of heat treatment on the electrical properties of strained-Si/SiGe-on-insulator (SGOI) devices were examined. We proposed the optimized heat treatment processes for improving the back interfacial electrical properties in SGOI-MOSFET. By applying the additional pre-RTA (rapid thermal annealing) before gate oxidation step and the post-RTA after source/drain dopant activation step, the electrical properties of strained-Si channel on $Si_{1-x}Ge_x$ layer were greatly improved, which resulting the improvement of the driving current, transconductance, and leakage current of SGOI-MOSFET.

  • This paper investigates active noise control of ducts using filtered-x least mean square(FXLMS) algorithms to reduce noise transmission. Single channel FXLMS(SFXLSM) and multiple channel FXLMS(MFXLMS) algorithms are used to implement the active control systems. The transmission loss is significantly increased by SFXLMS but the sound pressure level(SPL) at the upstream of the error sensor is increased while that of downstream is very low. This increase of the upstream SPL causes the duct wall to vibrate and so to radiate noise. To prevent the wall vibration generated by the sound field upstream, global sound field control is required. To reduce SPL globally along the duct, active noise control using MFXLMS is implemented. We can then be obtained globally reduced SPL. It is found experimentally that the vibration level, and so the radiated noise level, can be reduced by the active noise control using MFXLMS.

  • The adsorptions of trimethygallium (TMG) and arsine (As$H_3$) on H/Si(100)-2x1 surface were theoretically investigated. In the case of TMG adsorption, methane loss reaction, surface methylation, hydrogen loss reaction and ring closing reaction channels were found. The mechanism of As$H_3$ adsorption on the surface was also identified. Among these, the methane loss reaction depositing –Ga(C$H_3)_2$ was found to be the major channel due to its low barrier height and the large exothermicity. The surface methylation reaction is the second most favorable channel. In contrast, arsine turned out to be less reactive on the surface, implying that Arsine surface reaction would be the rate limiting step in the overall ALD process.

  • As all delays resulting from the signaling network directly affect the response time of network management activity, all control informations have to be transported most efficiently. It is very important to know the performance of the signaling system not only because of smooth network operation but also because of efficient engineering of signaling networks. In this paper, we analyzed mean queueing delay of signaling link for ISUP signaling messages in common channel signaling system by using M[X]/G/1 and M[X]/D/1 batch arrival queueing system. This is because we modeled arrival process of the signaling messages as batch arrival process considering that many kinds of signaling messages are generated at short intervals when a call requests a connection. Analysis was carried out considering different call processing scenario based on ITU-T specification. We also described the numerical results from the different types of queueing models.

  • We have designed a three-channel output multiplexer (OMUX) using a band-pass filter and an ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna. The proposed band-pass filter is composed of an inner rectangular loop, an outer open stub, and a defected ground structure. The outer open stub can be used to control the pass band, and the inner rectangular loop can improve the insertion loss characteristics of the band-pass filter. The proposed band-pass filter, UWB antenna, and OMUX are fabricated and measured. The designed OMUX can cover the band group 1 (3,168-4,752 MHz) of WiX system. The measured radiation patterns are close to those of a conventional dipole antenna and the measured antenna gain varies from 1.8 dBi to 3 dBi over the operating frequency range.

  • An X-band contiguous band diplexer is realized by using asymmetrical coupled microstrip lines. The design is based on the singly terminated low pass prototype filter and optimized by using SuperCompack. The designed channel 1 and channel 2 bandwidth is 22%, and 18% respectively, where the center frequency is 9,11 GHz. The measured results of the fabricated diplexer are in good agreement with the designed ones, but the measured insertion loss is slightly highier(0.5dB) than those of the designed value.

  • This paper proposes a novel RGB-LED (light emitting diode) backlight system, for 32" LCD TVs, accompanied by a new X-Y Channel drive method in which its row and column switches control the individual division screen. This proposed driving method is able to produce division drive effects such as image improvement and reduced power consumption. Not only that, the number of converter needed in this method, that is 1 with $4^*$(m+n) switches, is much fewer than that of cluster drive method, that is $4^*(m^*n)$.

  • The number of quantization bits of the input signals $X_k$,$Y_k$ need to be optimally determined through the trade-off between the H/W complexity and the BER performance in Turbo codes applications. Also, an effective means to incorporate a channel reliability $L_c$ in the Log-MAP-based Turbo decoding is highly required. because it has a major effect on both the complexity and the performance. In this paper, a novel bit-shifting approach that substitutes for the multiplying is proposed so as to effectively incorporate. $L_c$ in Turbo decoding. The optimal number of quantization bits of $X_k$,$Y_k$ is investigated through Monte-Carlo simulations assuming that bit-shifting approach is adopted. In addition. The effects of an incorrect estimation of noise variance on the performance of Turbo codes is investigated. There is a confined range in which the effects of an incorrect estimation can be ignored.

  • Most of ANC(active noise control) researches are focused on adaptive algorithms, computer simulations and implementations of single-channel system in experimental environments. In this paper, a multi-channel ANC system based on DSP's was developed to obtain global attenuations over wide region and applied to the active control of the humming noise generated by a transformer. The developed ANC system including 24 microphones and 12 spearkers was applied to the real transformer noise reduction problem. Results showed that the control system could successfully control the humming noise over the region of interest.
