Discussion on Hardness Measuring of Bearing Steel by X-ray Diffraction (X선회절에 의한 베어링강의 경도측정에 대한 고찰)

  • The half-value breadth off-ray diffraction profile line is generally used for a factor in nondestructive hardness measuring method of steel. In this paper, the problem in using the half-value breadth for the hardness measuring method is evaluated in strain hardened steel. And new hardness measuring method using residual stress is proposed X-ray diffraction test after rolling contact fatigue test of ball bearing with inner race of various hardness are carried out to measure the distribution of residual stress and half-value breadth from surface. The result of this study shows that there is little correlation between half-value breadth and hardness in the higher strength region and in the region increasing the hardness by strain hardening. But the magnitude of residual stress on/under race after rolling contact fatigue test becomes clearly to be correlative with hardness. Thus, it is concluded that the hardness of strain hardened steel can be estimated by this relationship between residual stress and hardness.

A Study on the X-ray Diffraction of the Muscle by the Electrical Stimulation (근육의 전기자극에 의한 X선 회절 분석연구)

  • A considerable change observed in X-ray diffraction during the muscle contraction was that the movement of myosin head and conformational change of contractile monecules were occurred in the muscle contraction. Time slice requires tension peak after the onset of stimulation and the height of tension peak depends on the number of twitch cycle. The intensity of I$_{11}$, I$_{10}$, 143${\AA}$ reflection is measured with 5ms time resolution and is recorded in isometric tension. The peak height of I$_{11}$ and 143${\AA}$ intensity is changed after the onset of a stimulation I$_{i}$, and the length of twitch is shortened by successive twitches in the case of stimulation TI$_{i}$. On the other hand, the peak height of I$_{11}$ and 215${\AA}$ intensity starts to decrease at the 1st twitch and remains constant at low peak hight without appreciable recovery during the contraction term. In the case of uccessive twitch stimulation, the myosin heads of muscle are once moved from their resting position and never returned to their initial position.

Precipitation In Inconel 718 Alloy

  • The precipitation sequence of Inconel 718 alloy, aged at $760^{\circ}C$ for times up to 200 hr, has been studied by means of electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction methods. The dominant hardening phase was identified as the metastable, body-centered tetragonal $Ni_3Nb$ Phase in the morphology of platelets. The other phases identified in the aging sequence were (Nb, Ti)C and the stable acicular phase of orthorhombic $Ni_3Nb.$ The observations were made on the interaction of dislocations with the precipitates in the underaged condition. The shearing of the precipitates and the planar defects, e.g., stacking faults on i1101 planes of the intermetallic phase, were observed.

  • Fine and alkali-swollen structures of native cellulose fibers were investigated by x-ray diffraction methods. The results of fine structures are shown in Table 1. In meridional x-ray diffractograms, the relative intensity ratio R of (002) to (004) for cellulose I was ca. 0.05 and for regenerated cellulose it was ca. 0.45. It was considered that the transformation from cellulose I to cellulose II resulted from the packing or conformational change of cellulose chain. Finally. although cellulose I was not detected in the alkali-swollen celluloses treated for 1 hr to 24 hrs, washing and drying them resulted in the generation of considerable amounts of cellulose I and the amount decreased with increasing alkali duration.

Crystal Growth of $Nd:LaSc_3(BO_3)_4$ by Czochralski Method (융액인상법에 의한 $Nd:LaSc_3(BO_3)_4$ 단결정 성장 연구)

  • 융액인상법에 의하여 Nd3+ 이온이 15 at% 주입된 LaSc3(BO3)4 단결정을 성장하였다. 최적의 결정성장 조건하에서 성장된 결정은 결정형이 잘 발달되고 보라색 투명하였다. 편광 현미경에 의한 결정결함 분석결과 성장된 결정 중심부에서 0.1 mm 크기의 기포가 검출되었고, B2O3가 증발하여 결정에 증착된 shoulder 부위에서는 균열이 발생되었으나 body에서는 결함이 검출되지 않았다. X선 회절에 의하여 cell parameter를 측정한 결과 a=7.73 , b=9.85 , c=12.05 , β=105.48o 및 공간군 C2/c의 monoclinic 구조로 분석되었다. 양질의 단결정을 성장하기 위한 결정성장 요소는 회전속도 10 rmp, 인상속도 1.5 mm/h이었다. 성장된 결정은 808 nm에서 강하고 넓은 흡수대와 1050∼1080 nm에 걸친 형광 방출대가 관찰되었다. 성장된 결정을 이용하여 직경 3 mm, 두께 1mm 크기의 micro-chip laser 소자의 제조기술을 확립하였다.

  • This study is to analyse possibility cementitious powder from waste concrete as row material of recycled cement. From the results, we ascertained possibility as recycled cement through XRF & XRD of cementitious powder & recycled cement. As a result of the experiment, cementitious powder from waste concrete, which appeared to recovery hydration chemically at the calcining temperature of 700, suggested highly possibility as recycled cement.

  • Czochralski pulling method에 의해 성장된 고농도 도핑 Nd:LSB의 광학적 특성을 조사하였다. 결정 성장조건에 의해 달라지는 space group은 지금까지 C2/c, R32, Cc와 C2등 4가지가 보고되었으며, 기본적으로 6방정계의 구조를 가지고 비선형 광학 결정으로서의 특성을 보였다. x선 회절 분석계를 이용하여 구조를 분석하였고, 도핑 농도에 따른 형광 수명의 변화, 분산곡선 특성을 조사하였다. 또한 흡수 및 저온 형광 스펙트럼을 이용하여 도핑 농도 및 space group의 변화에 따른 에너지 준위의 변화를 관찰하고 비교하였다.

  • As a fundamental study on effects of thermal-cycles on residual stress of ceramics/metal joints, residual stresses in $Si_3N_4$/SUS304 joint specimens were measured before and single thermal-cycle by X-ray diffraction method and finite element method(FEM). The residual stress was found to increase after single thermal-cycle, which was agreeable with the results of residual stress measurement by X-ray diffraction method and residual stress analysis by finite element method. After the residual stress measurement, 4-point bending tests were performed. The relationship between the bending strength, the thermal-cycle temperature and hold time was examined. The bending strength was found to decrease with the increase of residual stress in linear relation.

  • In an argon thermal plasma CVD system diamond of metastable state was synthesized on molydenum substrate and concentration ratio of methane to hydrogen. Diamond was relatively well obtained when surface temperature of substrate was $890^{\circ}C$ and concentration of methane ratio was 0.5 percents.

  • High strength steels are widely used as tribo-materials in the field. Previous study revealed that for mild steel, the states of strain on the worn surface measured by X-ray diffraction has a good relationship with the state of wear. The objective of this study is to identify the relationship between the state of strain on the worn surface and the state of wear in high strength steels. Sliding wear tests were carried out using several hardened steels. X-ray diffraction tests were conducted to analyze the state of strain on the worn surface during wear. The experimental results indicated that the state of strain on worn surface in the hardened steel shows the same tendency as in the mild steel. It is clear that change of half value width on the worn surface as a function of sliding speeds is broadly similar in shape to wear characteristics curve and its magnitude has a good relationship with the wear rate at two different wear modes in the hardened steel.
