A Study of Names Used on Seals in the Age of Civil Wars in China (중국전국시대 인장(印章)에 반영된 인명 특징 연구)

  • The "Name" is not only representative of a person but also a cultural heritage containing national cultures. Therefore, we can easily find some cultural value from the square inch sized seal texts. This article is a comprehensive study of the characteristics of names appeared on the seals in the Warring States Period. In the Warring States Period, single name is generally used for naming and this style can be divided into 13 categories. Except unavoidable cases, such as using the name of place, the name of person or the reason of physical characteristics, using double name is very rare and this style can be categorized by 8 kinds. In result, using double name is defined as a fringe method of naming in the Warring States Period. In addition, we can find a big difference between the names of Warring States Period and those of Post-Qin and Han Dynasties in the structural aspects. In conclusion, understanding of the characteristics of names from the Warring States Period can be a great help to better understanding of ancient books and unearthed documents.

  • 'Delirious New York(1978)' of Rem Koolhaas is not only a historical book but a double code text writing the history of Manhattan in parallel to surrealism. Throughout this book, the surrealist terminologies such as unconsciousness, desire, paranoid, automatism, cadavre exquis etc, are widely used to explain the urban phenomena and buildings of Manhattan. Among these methods, in the fifth chapter, Paranoid critical method(PCM) invented by Salvador Deli, is explained in detail and adapted to Corbusier's project and other architects of Manhattan. Koolhaas connect PCM to the conceptual transposition and draft in architectural thinking. This thesis is to analyse the terms and methods of surrealism and how these methods are used to explain the urban phenomenon of Manhattan in 'Delirious New York'.

e-Learning Contents for Improving Writing Ability of the Elementary Students (초등학생 글쓰기 능력 향상을 위한 학습콘텐츠 개발)

  • Recently, the number of children of multi-cultural family is increasing and the achievement gap between city and farming village is getting larger. It will be alternatives to develop e-learning contents which students can study by themselves where there are internet connected computers. As one of the solutions to improve students' writing ability, we developed animation e-learning contents about manuscript paper usage and sentence signs. As a result of applying e-learning contents to students, we can make sure that e-learning contents are more effective than existing means such as workbook-centered education and web contents persuaded by text in academic interesting, satisfaction and achievement. Consequently, we offer this training methods as alternatives which can increase academic performance for multi-cultural family and Korean students who are behind the other students in language ability.

Authoring Support Technique Using Text Analysis-based Dialogue History Tracking (텍스트 분석 기반 대화 이력 추적을 이용한 작가 지원 기법)

  • This paper suggests methods to chronicle and track the history of dialogues exchanged among characters to prevent logical errors of a story. As for stories that are long with many characters, especially in full-length novels and co-written stories, cognitive burden is imposed on a writer. If the writer has confused understanding of a character, then a logical error would enter the story. This would compromise completeness and integrity of writing. Against the backdrop, this paper shows how dialogues among characters are chronicled and tracked by using the aforementioned tracking methods through design of a writer support system that relieves a writer's cognitive burden while supporting the writing and through an analysis of existing novels. In addition, we showed the accuracy results of average 68.5% through the performance evaluation of the query used in the dialogue history tracking.

  • This research paper is applying Family Tree with Story Authoring System on the previous research study about writing tool data model on interactive storytelling about family history. In this study, primary personal information holding identity of the person such as name, birthday and family tree, given at birth, was categorized into secondary function defined as "family contents" consisting of family achievements, episodes and experiences. Family contents was restructured to be used as creative ingredients to increase the value and usage of family contents...Family Tree with Story writing system enables users to create text, images, videos and digital contents based on experimental knowledge collected from the first and second generations.

Educational Drama Skills to Improve the Expressive Ability of Korean Language (한국어 표현능력 향상을 위한 교육연극 기법)

  • The early stage of Korean language education was to understand grammar. However, recent Korean language education aims to improve expressive ability for smooth communication. Hence, educational drama for education has gained attention as one of the effective ways of improving communication skills. Educational drama provides an actual conversational situation in which one can use appropriate words and grammar depending on the situation. Non-verbal expression such as body language and facial expression could be picked up so one also improves one's communicative abilities naturally. This means that educational drama shares Korean language education's goal of improving communicative ability. Moreover, the student becomes the core of the activity and finds solutions through cooperation with others, and this also helps improve social skills and self-esteem. This thesis covers methods of having interviews, re-writing texts to scripts, writing up post-script by imagining the following text, role-playing, and improving expressive ability by debating educational theatrical techniques. To make these activities successful, good quality VOD and learning materials shall be developed and used. Also, efficient training programs shall be created so that teachers make use of what they learn and improve their teaching skills.

The Analysis of Chosun Danasty Poetry Using 3D Data Visualization (3D 시각화를 이용한 조선시대 시문 분석)

  • With the development of technology for visualizing big-data, tasks such as intuitively analyzing a lot of data, detecting errors, and deriving meaning are actively progressing. In this paper, we describe the design and implementation of a 3D analysis that collects and stores the writing data in Chinese characters provided by the Korean Classical Database of the Korean Classics Translation Institute, stores and progress the data, and visualizes the writing information in a 3D network diagram. It solves the problem when a large amount of data is expressed in 2D, intuitive that analysis, error detection, meaningful data extraction such as characteristics, similarity, differences, etc. and user convenience can be provided. In this paper, we improved the problems of analyzing Chosun dynasty poetry in Chinese characters using 2D visualization conducted in previous studies.

Retelling Silence, Rewriting Experience: Production and Reproduction of Anne Askew's Examinations

  • The essay examines two different editions of Anne Askew's Examinations published in the sixteenth century: John Bale's the First Examination and the Latter Examination and John Foxe's Acts and Monuments, and argues that retelling and rewriting one's experience is the process of storytelling that necessitates the repetition and communication of the experience. The essay looks at the parts the sixteenth-century editors particularly rewrote or retold the original version, and discusses how Askew's story was retold, repeated, and communicated through various storytellers who delivered not only the original text but also the original experience toward larger audience. While attempting to interpret, analyze, and expand on the story she did not tell, or the story she could not tell, Bale and Foxe developed her personal and anecdotal story into a communal narrative to share. Bale wrote a weak woman's martyrology by adding his interpretation and analysis, showing the way for the readers to follow in understanding her enigmatic silence and gestures. On the other hand, Foxe made the story a more dramatic and more seamlessly flowing narrative of the heroic sacrifice of a martyr. Foxe filled the room left by Askew's silence with directly quoted conversations and the graphic that could help explain what was between the lines. Apart from the rewritings of the reformists, the essay focuses on the fact that the editing, rearranging, and reinterpreting process already started with Askew's own writing. Although Askew declares herself an objective recorder of the series of events, her writing is carefully constructed with complex ideological fractures and rhetorical tactics, and her experience is tailored to fit a particular purpose. Along with Bale's and Foxe's rewritings, Askew's story of a reading woman should be also read as an intentional and interpretative storytelling on her own experience.

  • The Journal of Digital Policy & Management. This space is for the abstract of your study in English. Recently, advancements in voice recognition technology lead to a new oral cultural era. Text based on new oral cultures, can bring about a cultural revolution. This research is rooted within the humanistic approach, including oral and text. The goal of the research is the humanistic measurements in regards to these cultural issues. Just like the complementary relationship between oral and text for the future. First of all, we will discuss the aspects that have resulted in the change between a text culture to an oral culture. After checking these changes with regards to voice recognition technology, we will be able to discuss the possibilities and problems of this cultural change. We discussed expected outcomes, such as the complementarity of speaking and writing, the expansion from the private culture to the public culture, the possibilities of a simultaneous concurrency. We also discussed the necessity such as a new semiotic approach of the voice and preparation for the expansion of the world of life. Specifically, the necessity for the advancement and control of the Korean culture against the dominance of a global corporation will be explored. In this study, basic research will be undertaken to look at the possibility of the new voice recognition technology and cultural changes, that are expected to be able to be effectively utilized and continue into more detailed research.

A Study of the Similarities between Comic Subtitles on Korean Television and Visual Codes in Comics (커뮤니케이션 메시지의 생산과 수용에 대한 매체기호학적 연구를 위한 제언 : 한국 텔레비전의 자막 사용이 갖는 특성을 중심으로)

  • In Korea, since the mid 1990s, the subtitles are largely employed on television programs especially on diverting programs like talk shows and game shows. The functions of these subtitles are different from those of the traditional subtitles. The traditional subtitles are used to give credits, explain an action, or represent dialogue, to be brief they are used to give informations. But the new type of subtitles are used to amuse the public. Not only the new subtitles represent words of the guests but also they present opinions or judgements of the program producer. They show also what to give attention to, what the guest feels and finally what to laugh at. These subtitles are very well received by the public. So they are employed more and more frequently by lots of programs. These subtitles will be ratted comic subtitles because their principal function Is to raise a laughter and to make fun. The purpose of this study is to attempt to find some particularities concerning the uses of the comic subtitles on Korean television. The study suggests that the comic subtitles call for the very known social codes because they should be understood clearly by the public. The forms and styles of the codes employed in the comic subtitles are very similar to those used in the comics. Some graphic codes especially developed in the comics are employed with success in the comic subtitles. The comic subtitles are aiming to amuse and provoke a laughter by written text and visual codes usually employed in the comics. But why does the program producer use the comic titles for make the public laugh? Laugh is not a emotional reaction but a act caused by the intellectual judgement. Written text and visual codes employed in the comic subtitles permit to judge the situation intellectually because they give to the public a moment for think about what they treat. They permit the public to see more clearly the situational relations which can provoke a laughter. The comic subtitles constitute now one of the main elements on Korean television. It means that the insertion of writing in the audiovisual media is popular in Korea. The study suggests that there is something in Korean culture which can favours this insertion : in Korea, writing has never been separated from painting. It seems that in Korea, there has been no clear separation between written culture and visual culture. But this point must be approached more carefully and needs profound researches.
