  • Object : This study was to investigate the clinical effect of Scolopendrid Pharmacopuncture on two patients suffering from Wrist Ganglion. Methods : We treated two patients suffering from Wrist Ganglion with both acupuncture and injection of Scolopendrid Pharmacopuncture. Then we measured the sizes of Wrist Ganglion and Visual Analogue Scale(VAS). Results and Conclusions : We found that the sizes of Wrist Ganglion of the two patients were significantly reduced. Moreover, the pain and discomfort of the wrists of the patients were reported to be reduced. So, we concluded that Scolopendrid Pharmacopuncture has an excellent effect on Wrist Ganglion. However, further studies are needed to investigate its exact effects.

  • The inverse kinematics problem is to find a set of joint variable values that will place the end effector of a robot manipulator into a given pose. Pieper has shown that a sufficient condition for a manipulator to have a closed form solution is that three adjacent joint axes intersects, hence the six axes robot with spherical wrist allows closed form solution. But many industrial robots have a non-spherical wrist to provide a stronger wrist configuration so that they can handle heavy payloads. Also, the use of a non-spherical wrist can result in a cheap and simple wrist arrangement than when all three axes intersect at a common point. In these cases, closed form solutions cannot be found. Therefore numerical technique must be used to solve the inverse kinematics equations. This paper proposes a new algorithm that can be used for finding inverse kinematics solution of the six axes robot with non-spherical wrist. Computer simulations are provided to prove the usefulness of our method.

  • This paper describes the development of a rehabilitation robot that can provide wrist bending exercise to a severe stroke patient staying in a bed ward or at home. The developed rehabilitation robot has a three-axis force sensor which detects three directional force Fx, Fy, and Fz. The sensor measures a bending force (Fz) exerted on the wrist and the signal force (Fx and Fy) which can be used for the safety purpose. The robot was designed for severe stroke patients in bed, and the robot program was developed to perform a wrist bending rehabilitation exercise. In our tests including a nine-day experimental exercise, the developed force sensor-based robot operated effectively and safely.

  • Objectives : This report details on a single case of Korean Medical treatments for the angular deformity of wrist fracture with disuse osteopenia. Methods : A 74-year-old lady with angular deformity of wrist fracture with disuse osteopenia was treated by Korean Medical therapies including manual acupuncture with electroacupuncture, pharmacopuncture, and chuna, twice daily for 41 days. Visual analogue scale for pain and range of motion were evaluated. Results : 1. Wrist pain decreased by Korean medical treatments over 41 days. 2. As a result of evaluation by visual analogue scale, the score marked from 6 to 3. 3. ROM of wrist joint increased from $0^{\circ}$ to $10^{\circ}$. Conclusions : Korean medical treatments helped symptom improvement in a patient with angular deformity of wrist fracture with disuse osteopenia.

  • Considering the singularity of robot, singularity avoidance control of robot is very important. Because it is very difficult structurally to exclude the wrist singularity. Then new control policy is needed to overcome wrist singularity. In this paper, the singularity states of robot wrist was analyzed and control algorithms for 3 and 4 axes robot wrist were proposed. Application results of the proposed control algorithms to the path including singularity showed us their usefulness and validity.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine whether wrist stabilization exercise combined with taping would improve wrist pain, disability and quality of life in postpartum women with wrist pain. Seventeen wrist pain patients were recruited and were randomly divided into two groups: experimental group (n=8) and control group (n=9). Participants in both groups received taping therapy for 30 minutes before the intervention. Additionally, subject in the experimental group performed wrist stabilization exercise using theraband for 15 minutes (twice a day, five times a week for four weeks) while the control group conducted range of motion exercise for the same amount of time. VAS was used to assess pain level of wrist. Disability was measured using a DASH. Quality of life were measured by SF-36. The wrist pain in the experimental group improved significantly greater than the control group (p<0.05). Significant improvement in the disability was observed in the experimental group compared to the control group (p<0.05). The SF 36 in the experimental group improved significantly greater than the control group (p<0.05). Our findings indicate that wrist stabilization exercise combined with taping is beneficial and effective to improve wrist health and quality of life in postpartum women with wrist pain.

  • Objectives : This observation was to report the clinical effects of acupotomy in treating wrist ganglion. Methods : From 7th April, 2010 to 12th May, 2010, 1 female patient who had a wrist ganglion was treated with ultra sound-guided acupotomy therapy and self moxibustion & massage. Results : The patient's wrist ganglion was disappeared on the surface of the skin after just one time acupotomy therapy. Hypoechoic lesion was turned into hyperechoic lesion on a ultrasonographic. After 1 month, a wrist ganglion was recurred, but the size of wrist ganglion was reduced. Conclusions : Acuputomy therapy has an effect of reducing the wrist ganglion size, but patient self management is important in preventing recurrence. The ganglion not visible on the surface of the skin must be considered as a treatment target.

  • The wrist joint was consisted with various bones, ligaments, and muscles. The wrist joint is difficult to understand, because of its complicated anatomical structure. The wrist joint is not one space but three joints; radiocarpal joint between distal radioulnar and proximal carpal bone, midcarpal joint between proximal and distal carpal bone, and distal radioulnar joint between distal radius and ulnar head. Normally each joint is separated from each other. Exact understanding about normal anatomy of the wrist joint is necessary for treatment of disease and injury in wrist joint. In this reviews, we will see normal anatomy of the wrist joint.

  • Purpose: This study was to identify the effects of Nei-Guan accupressure using a wrist band on postoperative nausea and vomiting after middle ear surgery. Methods: The study design was a nonequivalent control group non-synchronized posttest design. Forty patients were assigned into two groups of 20 patients, the wrist band group and the control group. In the wristband group, acupressure was applied with a wrist band on the P6 point at both wrists from 30 min before to 24 hr after anesthesia. Results: The 1st hypothesis 'Applied wrist band groups will have a greater reduction in the nausea & vomiting grades by INVR than the control group' was accepted (t=2.303, p=.028). The 2nd hypothesis 'The Applied wrist band groups will have a greater reduction in the occurrence of nausea & vomiting than the control group' was partly accepted. The 3rd hypothesis 'The applied wrist band group will have a greater reduction in injection of antiemetics for 24 hr. post anesthesia than the control group' was rejected. Conclusion: Acupressure on the P6 point using a wrist band is effective to alleviate nausea for middle ear surgery patients.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of kinesio taping and wrist supporter on grip strength. Methods : The subjects for this study were thirty three young healthy people. To find out the effectiveness of kinesio taping and wrist supporter, divide three treatment method. Subjects measure the normal grip strength and then put on the kinesio taping and wrist supporter on wrist. Results : The results were as follow : 1. There were statistical significance on the grip strength with taping group(p<0.05). 2. There were statistical significance on the grip strength with wrist supporter group(p<0.05). 3. Taping group was more statistical significance than wrist supporter group on the grip strength. Conclusion : Supporter and taping on wrist were effective in grip strength.
