Cutaneous wound healing is a highly orchestrated process comprising a number of well-defined temporally overlapping phase. These include the migration of inflammatory cells to the wound site, and re-establishment of an epithelial barrier (re-epithelization), and the deposition of matrix by fibroblast [1]. We attempt to find out that active ceramic resources has effects on cutaneous wound healing. And furthermore, we investigate its related mechanism and expression of cytokines of cutaneous wound healing which is accelerated by active ceramic resources. (omitted)

Gorwth factors such as TGF-beta, PDGF and FGF are thought to play important roles in wound healing. However, thier biological activity and signal transduction during wound repair remain poorly understood. Growth factors are often ligands for receptor tyrosine kinase and receptor serine/threonine kinases. With recent advances in signal transduction by receptor kinases, we are beginning to understand the underlying mechanism of how growth factors may regulate cutaneous wound repair. In this paper, we will describe the pharmacological effects of growth factors on wound healing, and dscuss the potential underlying signaing mechanisms. thus, we hope to provide the basis for designing more specific therapeutics for wound healing in the near future.
To investigate the effect of chlorhexidine gluconate and povidone iodine on wound healing, their antimicrobial activity and their effects on wound contraction in rabbits were studied. Staphyococcus aureus (1${\times}$10$\^$7/) was inoculated on the full thickness skin defects (2${\times}$2cm) on the back. Antiseptics were applied on the defects 2 hours after Inoculation. The defects were swabbed for bacterial culture 24 and 48 hours after the application of antiseptics. Percentage of wound contraction, based on wound area measured on the day of surgery was calculated for each wound on days 1,7 and 14. The 0.5% chlorhexidine gluconate solution had more effective antimicrobial activity against Staphyococcus aureus in wounds than 0.05% chlorhexidine gluconate solution (p<0.05), and povidone iodine solution and saline (p<0.01). Percentages of wound contraction were not significantly different among different dilutions of the antiseptics and saline. Present study indicated that the antimicrobial activity of chlorhexidine gluconate in wound was superior to that of povidone iodine.
Objectives : The aim of the present study is to evaluate the wound healing-enhancing and anti-inflammatory effects of Pinus densiflora, Cornus officinalis, Zingiber officinale, Ganoderma japonicum and Scutellaria baikalensison human keratinocyte, HaCaT cells. Methods : We adopted in vitro wound healing assay to measure the proliferation-and migration-enhancing effects in HaCaT cells. The expressions of cytokine genes were measured in HaCaT cells using real-time PCR analysis. Results : The extracts of Pinus densiflora, Cornus officinalis, Zingiber officinale, Ganoderma japonicum and Scutellaria baikalensis enhanced the proliferation and migration of HaCaTcells. The expression of keratinocyte growth factor receptor(FGFR2-IIIb) gene was also induced. The extracts inhibited iNOS, IL-$1{\beta}$ and TNF-$\alpha$ gene expression. Conclusions : The extract of Pinus densiflora, Cornus officinalis, Zingiber officinale, Ganoderma japonicum and Scutellaria baikalensis has wound healing-enhancing effects and anti-inflammatory effects.
Research was undertaken to compare the pharmacological activity of Lithospermi radix (LR) reported as an oriental medicine for classical uses. LR contains naphthoquinone pigments : shikonin, acetylshikonin, isobutylshikonin, etc. LR is used for the treatment of excision wound, burn, eczema, blister, scarlatina and septicemia as antifebrile, antidotic and antiphlogistic. Gardeniae fructus (GF) has been used for the treatment to jaundice, hepatic disease, anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects, and it contains crocin, geniposide and its derivatives. The therapeutic effects of burn and excision wound healing from LR & GF hydrogel with $Nano-ATP^{\circledR}$ (GLN) were investigated. To evaluate the therapeutic value of various hydrogels, thermal burn model and excision wound mouse model were used. The burn and wound reduction rate and therapeutic period were measured to calculate the healing extent after 5 experiments. The 2nd degree burn was prepared on hairless mouse back skin and dressing with collagen. The burn and wound reduction rate of GLN hydrogel treated group decreased more rapidly than that of other gel group in animal model. Furthermore therapeutic periods of GLN hydrogel treated group was shorter than that of other gel group. In anti-inflammatory test, GLN hydrogel treated group decreased edema rapidly than that of other gel group. These results suggest that the GLN hydrogel treatment has an therapeutic effect on burn and excision wound healing.

Background The elasticity of the back skin of the rat reduced the tension around wounds during the wound healing process in that region, and thus activates wound contraction. The authors proposed two skin fixation methods using readily available materials to decrease the influence of wound contraction on wound healing and designed an experiment to determine their effects. Methods The authors made 36 skin wounds on the backs of 18 rats, and they divided them into three groups. Each group was treated with three different kinds of dressing materials, each with different skin fixing characteristics. Group A was a control group. Group B and group C were dressed by the first and the second skin fixation method. We measured the areas of the wounds post-surgically and calculated the wound area reduction rates. Results The two skin fixation methods both reduced the effect of wound contraction compared to the control group. Each of the two methods had different outcomes in reducing wound contraction. Conclusions The experiment demonstrated significant differences among the wound areas and the wound area reduction rates of the three groups as a result of differences in the degree of wound contraction. To obtain accurate results from wound healing experiments, appropriate skin fixation methods must be adopted.

Vinca alkaloids from plant Vinca minor have been investigated for their effects of tyrosinase inhibition, stimulation of ROS generation and increasement of cell migration activity. The methanolic crude extract and the water-soluble fraction exhibited $IC_{50}$ value of 3.1 mg/mL and 2.1 mg/mL. Vinca minor extract treatment significantly increased ROS levels in HaCaT cells, in a concentration-dependent manner. Treatments of Vinca minor extract led to increase wound closure when compared with non-treatment. Low dose (0.1% or 0.3%) of extracts have not significantly affected, compared with that in controls. By contrast, 0.5% extract have dramatic effect on wound healing activity of keratinocytes. Effects of Vinca minor extract in a filter-based cell mobility assay appear similar to that of wound closure assay, which suggests that the Vinca minor extract have wound healing effects on skin.
The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of polyphosphate on healing of skin wound in rabbits. Four skin wounds of 8mm in diameter were induced bilaterally(4 wounds/rabbit) on the dorsolateral aspect of the trunk of 15 male New Zealand white rabbits. Ten percent polyphosphate(poly P) type 25, 10% poly P type 35, 10% poly P type 25+10% poly P type 35 and 0.85% sterile saline solution were applied on the wound area and examined grossly and histopathologically. The rate of wound contraction and histopathological changes after poly P application on the skin wound were investigated. In gross findings, the wound contraction rates of 10% poly P 25 group were significantly decreased from day 2 to day 7 after operation than those of 0.85% sterile saline solution treated group (p < 0.01). Although the hemorrhage and inflammation were observed on days 3, 6 and 9 after operation in all groups, but in 10% poly P 25 was gradually decreased. Revascularization and reepithelialization were seen 3, 6 and 9 days after operation in all groups, especially in 10% poly P 25 was formed completely on 9 days. Fibroplasia were seen 3. 6 and 9 days after operation in all groups, especially in 10% poly P 25 was compact than other groups on 9 days. The results suggested that polyphosphate, especially 10% poly P 25 would be effective on healing of skin wound in rabbits through decrease of would contraction rate, increase of revascularization, reepithelialization and fibroplasia.

Background This study aimed to assess the effects of the topical application of tamoxifen on wound healing of burned skin in Wistar rats by evaluating 3 healing characteristics: fibrotic tissue thickness (FTT), scar surface area (SSA), and angiogenesis in the healed scar tissue. Methods Eighteen male Wistar rats were used in this study. A third-degree burn wound was made on the shaved animals' back, measuring $2{\times}2{\times}2cm$. In the first group, a 2% tamoxifen ointment was applied to the wound twice daily for 8 weeks. The second group received a placebo ointment during the same period. The third group did not receive any treatment and served as the control group. Results The median (interquartile range=[Q1, Q3]) FTT was 1.35 (1.15, 1.62) mm, 1.00 (0.95, 1.02) mm, and 1.25 (0.8, 1.5) mm in the control, tamoxifen, and placebo groups, respectively (P=0.069). However, the FTT in the tamoxifen group was less than in the placebo and control groups. The median angiogenesis was 3.5 (3.00, 6.25), 8.00 (6.75, 9.25), and 7.00 (5.50, 8.25) vessels per high-power field for the control, tamoxifen, and placebo groups, respectively (P=0.067). However, the median angiogenesis was higher in the tamoxifen group than in the control group. No significant difference was observed in the mean SSA between the tamoxifen group and the control group (P=0.990). Conclusions Local application of tamoxifen increased angiogenesis and decreased the FTT, with no change in the SSA in burned skin areas. These effects are expected to expedite the wound healing process, reducing contracture and preventing hypertrophic scar and keloid formation.

Background: Fermented black ginseng (FBG) is produced through several cycles of steam treatment of raw ginseng, at which point its color turns black. During this process, the original ginsenoside components of raw ginseng (e.g., Re, Rg1, Rb1, Rc, and Rb2) are altered, and less-polar ginsenosides are generated (e.g., Rg3, Rg5, Rk1, and Rh4). The aim of this study was to determine the effect of FBG on wound healing. Methods: The effects of FBG on tube formation and on scratch wound healing were measured using human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) and HaCaT cells, respectively. Protein phosphorylation of mitogen-activated protein kinase was evaluated via Western blotting. Finally, the wound-healing effects of FBG were assessed using an experimental cutaneous wounds model in mice. Results and Conclusion: The results showed that FBG enhanced the tube formation in HUVECs and migration in HaCaT cells. Western blot analysis revealed that FBG stimulated the phosphorylation of p38 and extracellular signal-regulated kinase in HaCaT cells. Moreover, mice treated with $25{\mu}g/mL$ of FBG exhibited faster wound closure than the control mice did in the experimental cutaneous wounds model in mice.
