"God Always Find a Way": The Crisis of Civilization and Its Overcoming through the Worldview of Daesoon Jinrihoe

  • This article is a compilation of civilizational crises and their overcoming from the worldview of Daesoon Jinrihoe, based on the premise that religion can offer advice on the crises faced by modern civilization. It is a reinterpretation of human history from a religious perspective, focusing on mutual contentions, grievances, grudges, and their overcoming. Daesoon Jinrihoe explains that modern civilizational crises were first recognized by divine beings in the 18th and 19th centuries, and then later recognized by humans in the 20th and 21st centuries. Unable to resolve the civilization crises, the divine beings asked the Supreme God to intervene in human history, and the Supreme God was born in a human body to reveal the root causes and development of various civilizational crise sand to propose solutions to overcome them. These solutions encompass setting the world aright and ushering in a new era through the Reordering Works of Heaven and Earth (天地公事), attaining enduring peace by practicing grievance resolution for mutual beneficence (解冤相生), and reconstructing the relationship between divine beings and humans in harmonious coexistence. Devotees hold that Daesoon Jinrihoe is a religion that originated as a solution to a problem faced by God rather than humankind. As such, it considers the crises of civilization and their overcoming as the reason for existence. According to the religion's worldview, the Supreme God has already provided the solution to these civilizational crises. With a tip of the hat to the film Interstellar (2014), it could be said, "God Found a Way. He Always Has." Now, Daesoon Jinrihoe posits that it is up to humans to implement the way that God found.

The Accuracy Assessment of Species Classification according to Spatial Resolution of Satellite Image Dataset Based on Deep Learning Model (딥러닝 모델 기반 위성영상 데이터세트 공간 해상도에 따른 수종분류 정확도 평가)

  • This study was conducted to classify tree species and assess the classification accuracy, using SE-Inception, a classification-based deep learning model. The input images of the dataset used Worldview-3 and GeoEye-1 images, and the size of the input images was divided into 10 × 10 m, 30 × 30 m, and 50 × 50 m to compare and evaluate the accuracy of classification of tree species. The label data was divided into five tree species (Pinus densiflora, Pinus koraiensis, Larix kaempferi, Abies holophylla Maxim. and Quercus) by visually interpreting the divided image, and then labeling was performed manually. The dataset constructed a total of 2,429 images, of which about 85% was used as learning data and about 15% as verification data. As a result of classification using the deep learning model, the overall accuracy of up to 78% was achieved when using the Worldview-3 image, the accuracy of up to 84% when using the GeoEye-1 image, and the classification accuracy was high performance. In particular, Quercus showed high accuracy of more than 85% in F1 regardless of the input image size, but trees with similar spectral characteristics such as Pinus densiflora and Pinus koraiensis had many errors. Therefore, there may be limitations in extracting feature amount only with spectral information of satellite images, and classification accuracy may be improved by using images containing various pattern information such as vegetation index and Gray-Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM).

A Study of the Aesthetic Characteristics of Women's Clothes in the Goryeo Dynasty (고려시대 여성의복의 미적특성 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the external characteristics of the clothes formed from the culture and worldview of Goryeo women and to identify the aesthetic characteristics. This paper posits the following: First, that the practice of Buddhism contributed to gender equality between Goryeo women and men; second, that Goryeo had a worldview of unified as in with the East and Korea differentiating from the dichotomous thinking of the West; and third, that the aesthetic characteristics of Goryeo women's clothing included (a) color contrast and an emphasis on patterns based on Pure Land Buddhism and Esoteric Buddhism; (b) The beauty of unitary convergence is the beauty of freedom as an expression of various cultural exchanges and the free and open ways of thinking of Goryeo women; (c) an expression of rhythmical beauty, with the shape of line led to straight to curve line and the change of line through human body's movements; and (d) a perfect balance of proportion and symmetry based on Pure Land Buddhism.

From 'Self-realization' to Interdependent Arising -- Seeking an Alternative to Deep Ecology (통각에서 연기론으로 -- 심층생태론의 대안 모색)

  • Arne Naess' ecocentrally-oriented worldview of 'Self-realization' has been continually attacked by sociocultural critics since it was launched in the early 1970s. Especially ecofeminists and social ecologists criticize that the concept of Self-realization cannot accept social & cultural particularity enough. In other words, they assert that Deep Ecology cannot efficiently resist interpersonal hierarchy. Concentrating their criticism on compassion just for nonhuman beings, the interpersonal equality-oriented critics claim that Deep Ecology should incorporate voices of marginalized humans within their eco-centered world view. Even if Naess recently recognizes necessity to draw more attention to sociohistorical particularity, still unchanged remains essentialism in his neological term 'Self-realization.' Compared to exclusiveness in Naess' Self-realization, the Buddhist worldview of Interdependent Arising(pratityasamutpada) favors both intraspeciel egalitarianism and interpersonal equality as well. The very insight that all beings dependently co-originate reasons compassion for historically marginalized humans as well as nonhuman beings. Accordingly, today's environmentalism might better its efficiency as it goes toward the inclusive Buddhist world view of interdependent arising. For the human being tends to respond more readily to his or her individually urgent problems than their remote social matters.

  • Since concentration of greenhouse gas increases continuously from human's fossil fuel use, urbanization, and cultivation, it is trend that climate change is appearing. In Addition, in 20th century, occurrence of disaster is accidental and huge, and damage level also increases gradually. Therefore, in order to preserve the territory and to protect people's life and property against new type disasters, disaster detection satellite (payloads) development is required urgently. In this paper, we conduct a research and development for the prompt preemptive action when occurred a disaster, in particularly, about the disaster observation optimized at Korea's geographical features for the irregular future disasters. For the payload design which is specialized detect disasters, we create a tech tree of satellite imagery applications based 10 disaster types, and analyze the satellite sensor technologies referred to Landsat-8, Worldview-3 and ALOS-2.

  • Metaverse is a combination of Meta and Universe, which refers to a world in which users or avatars engage in social, economic, and cultural activities. This study attempted to compare the four worldviews proposed by the Acceleration Studies Foundation (ASF) based on the five evaluation factors of SPICE, which are factors for promoting customer experience. 227 samples were used in the analysis, and as a result, seamlessness was the highest in augmented reality, interoperability in lifelogging, presence in the mirror world, and concurrence in virtual reality. This study is meaningful in that it presents a model design plan according to the classification of the metaverse platform and the worldview, and presents detailed strategic directions to existing metaverse platform operators or new entrants.

  • This paper presents a method of single image dehazing and feature matching for aerial remote sensing images. In the case of a aerial image, transferring the information of the original image is difficult as the contrast leans by the haze. This also causes that the image contrast decreases. Therefore, a refined transmission map based on a hidden Markov random field. Moreover, the proposed algorithm enhances the accuracy of image matching surface-based features in an aerial remote sensing image. The performance of the proposed algorithm is confirmed using a variety of aerial images captured by a Worldview-2 satellite.

The Crisis of Climate Change and the Direction of Christian Ecological Education (기후변화의 위기와 기독교 생태교육의 방향 모색)

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the direction that Christian education should take as an ecological education in the crisis of climate change. What climate change shows is that it is impossible to survive even if the Earth's temperature rises by only 2-3 degrees. However, our current appearance is concerned about the crisis of climate change as long as we do not change our lives. First, the meaning of climate change and its causes were examined. The anthropocentric worldview, modern industrial, scientific and technological growth, and consumption-oriented social structure can be cited as the causes. An anthropocentric worldview justifies everything from the human point of view, and nature is the subject of human domination, but one regarded as a tool. In addition, as the scale of human economic activity increases, energy consumption increases, and the threat of ecosystem destruction increases with the increase in energy consumption. Individual affluence and increased consumption are exacerbating ecosystem tensions. In order to solve the problem of climate change, ecological education clues were found in the Bible. Through creation, the relationship between humans and nature was identified as coexistence and coexistence. Through the principle of sabbath, it is possible to bring about the restoration of humans and nature, and from the point of view of the incarnation, the world was understood as the 'body' of God. Based on these clues, the direction of Christian ecological education was explored by suggesting a transition to an ecological paradigm, restoration of creative spirituality, and cultivation of ecological imagination. In the crisis of climate change, it is hoped that the recovery of the earth will take place and that we will be able to stand again as a responsible being through the Christian ecological educational approach.

High School Students' Perception of Value Building about Korean Traditional Science Knowledge (한국 전통 과학에 대한 고등학생들의 인식과 가치 탐색)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the possibility of science education using Korean TSK(Traditional scientific knowledge). In this study, we have developed five Korean TSK units including science concepts, historical knowledge and cultural experience and applied them to 10th graders. The five units are as follows: (1) Calendars(western and eastern), (2) Our traditional sundial, Angbuilgu, (3) A great scientist in the King Sejong Era, (4) Data interpretation of ancient record of natural phenomenon in Korea, and (5) Gyeongbokgung Palace. The analyses included a pre- and post test of students' perception, classroom observation, students' activity sheets, and interview. The results show that the students' perception of Korean TSK has changed toward recognizing the value of Korean TSK as a kind of natural science. They expressed their expectation of Korean TSK in scientific, practical, and emotional perspectives, wherein some students thought the practical and emotional perspectives of Korean TSK as non-scientific characteristics. Students showed five types of worldview about the relationship between Korean TSK and WMS(western modern science). Most students favored and cherished the Korean TSK but at the same time, they were confused about its scientific value. The results support the rethinking of the meaning of science and what students learn in school. We should consider how we teach the Korean TSK to students. It is important that a profound research of the Korean TSK should be continued to make our science education varied.

  • Community design education has covered the worldview dimension of the collaborative courses for sustainability draws on the architectural expertise developed in a network of community projects and therefore case studies of design education by the collaborative project-based learning in terms of participants, students, teachers and architects, such as 'Learning By Design' for the K-12 comprehensive program in Massachusetts addresses how a local society can make its community sustainable by both design and education. To understand that community design and education can provide professional development in all levels of skills and knowledge across disciplines and opportunities for collaborative learning and problem-solving, this research consists of case studies of the community design education including social systems that assist in organizing the local educational program as well as promoting the programs with public awareness of the community. It covers the UNESCO-UIA agenda of the community design and education that is to enhance the physical environment relating to human interaction by developing innovative alternatives of existing community and contributing voluntarily to neighborhoods through design. As the community design collaborative of design professionals and users is a structural approach to assess design quality, the cases address how to set up the architectural program in order to share pro bono design service and provide high-quality design resources available for sustainable environment.
