Objective: This paper aims to discuss the case study of Design Dive: Service Design Workshop that was held to improve public services by applying service design methods(February 2011~May 2011). In so doing, it suggests the ways in which public services can be innovated from a design-oriented perspective. Background: As citizens' social and cultural awareness of services is enhanced, there have been emerging needs for innovation of public services. Accordingly, the methods of service design which is to design holistically users' experiences have been considered as an important means to innovate public services. Method: In this regard, the present paper introduces and explores the example of the Design Dive Workshop as a platform whereby service design is achieved. In particular, it analyzes the results of the workshop. Results: The paper presents the results of the workshop and the 10 possible scenarios of public services that were explored in the workshop and suggests models for empowering the workshop participants. Conclusion: Service design is a very effective methodology for providing a new perspective on user-oriented design of public services. The workshop had educational effects on enhancing the participants' awareness of the role of public service design. Application: The Design Dive workshop contributed to improving public services and achieved positive educational results. The methods developed in the workshop can effectively be applied to various occasions on which public services should be improved.

This research is focused on the 'Resident-participated Workshop' which targets the improvement of residential environment of apartment complex from the residents' point of view. The purpose of the workshop is to induce the residents interest and encourage them to participate in design process, thus, residents will be satisfied with the result with affection and achievement. This research aims the effectiveness of 'Resident-participated' design plan as a program which enables them to maintain and self manage in the long run. The object of this research was the public space within the apartment complex of Susojugong Rental Apartment Complex in Gangnam-ku, Seoul and followings are the contents; 1. Method of 'Resident-participated Workshop'. 2. Program of 'Resident-participated Workshop'. 3. Design analysis of improved apartment complex through 'Resident-participated Workshop' and selection. As a result, it was noticeable that 'Resident-participated Workshop' was an important factor in decision making of designs from the very first stage through communication. As a part of workshop program, design game used cubic models which was useful to enhance the understanding of the participants. It also induced the cubic conception so that intercommunication with the design specialists was possible. But, the development of various workshop method to increase the residents' interest and participation is necessary, especially, program development is required to change the residents' attitude towards the design plan. It is anticipated that a continuous related research is neccsary in this regard.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of participatory design workshops conducted to design forest play spaces that reflect young children's needs and demands on the development of spatial concepts in young children. As a research method for this purpose, we used the participatory design workshop (6 times) and Landscape Montage Techniques (LMT). We conducted this study at the "Songsan-mulbit Forest Experience Center for children (FECC)" located in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, from the second week of May to third week of June 2018 for preschoolers in K-kindergarten (six and seven-year-old integrated classes; 41 preschoolers in total). We conducted the LMT evaluation on the same preschoolers before and after the workshop, and the drawings of 39 preschoolers drawn for LMT evaluation before and after the workshop were subject to the final evaluation. As a result of the study, the cognitive levels for the spatial concept after the workshop are higher than those for the spatial concept before the workshop, especially showed the result of comparing the LMT values of 6 age and 7 age, there were significant differences on pre and post workshop in p<0.01.

In order to establish the effective community village as planned, it is the most important factor in residents' participation at the stage of design process. Especially, community space, which is commonly used by all members, must be designed through consultation process of community members themselves to accommodate the needs of various daily activities. So, in this study, the participation process to design the common community facility is developed and the actual residents' participation workshop was conducted in Baek-Hwa village, which is being built on South Korea. Also, the space of community facilities was designed based on the direct opinions and needs of actual residents obtained by workshop process. The workshop was conducted two times: the first workshop was conducted for the design of common residents' facilities and the second was for trying to utilize the virtual designed space. During the workshop process, it is found that the positive participation of members of village is naturally occurred to design residents' space in the workshop process. As a result, most people want to make the space of gym, library, and dining room in spatial configuration. Among them, the hobby room was highly demanded. There is lots of demand for the joint activities and training program in common activity fields. Also, the prediction of the various occurrence so fun expected situations was requested in the game of creating rules and role-playing. In the conclusion, it was acknowledged the necessity of residents' participation design and the importance of communication between architects and residents for decision-making.
Resident participation plays much of a rule to the cohousing, which is organized independently and has the characteristics of community life, especially in the initial state of cohousing process. However, it is hard to realize the resident participation in proper order due to lack of a personal time, individual effort and an insufficient knowledge related with cohousing. So, it is thought that the guidance of cohousing expert and coordinator is needed to enable the residents to perform in an active attitude. The development of educational program and workshop connected with resident participation is also accompanied. In this study, to make the positive and systematic participation of cohousing residents, we established the workshop program and performed workshop with our developed program, based on preceding researches and examples. We selected the object of workshop as five housewives in thirties and forties. Workshop was consisted of six process steps. (1) Introduction and question of workshop and cohousing (2) examining and arranging the opinion (3) Master plan of cohousing village (4) Planning of common living space (5) Planning of individual living space (6) Analysis of final results and evaluation of workshop. The workshop held six times and it took about five~six hours per each meeting. Workshop participants expressed their opinion actively and attended in a positive manner in order to the design of their desired village and cohousing. During workshop process, the players established the common target of their village by means of life card, target card game. Also, based on the common target, the layout of village was planned using a collage game and card arrangement game. By workshop activity, the members started to recognize the significance of participation on the drawing board and improve their technique of communication and decision-making. Furthermore, workshop process made it possible to approach the concrete forms of their cohousing village. Especially, in the closing phase, the participant satisfaction about workshop and cohousing is increased suddenly and expressed their intention to join the real workshop related with cohousing.
This paper aims to present the model of engineering design education workshop for appropriate technologies. Since 2008 Handong Innovation Center for Engineering Education and a Non-Profit Organization, Sharing and Technology, held engineering design workshop during every summer break. We present the contents of the workshop and analyze the educational effects of the program. The workshop is entitled "Engineering Design Academy for the other 90%" because we take it serious that most of the research and development efforts of the science and technologies in the world is just focused on the rich people while the other 90% people in the world are unreachable from the benefits of the modern technologies. By the workshop we tries to provide the college students the perspectives on the worldwide poverty problems and to encourage them to serve the 3rd world people in need through their specialties in the field of engineering profession. The evaluation results by participants are very positive. Especially, we began invite the 3rd world people to the workshop as design problem clients from 2010 summer workshop. The evaluation from them are also very positive. The analysis results on the educational effects of the workshop show that the workshop improves the students skills required by the ABEEK (Acreditation Board of Engineering Education of Korea) including not only design capability but also team work, communication skill, understanding the social impacts of engineering design, engineering ethics, and globalization.

The purpose of this study was to provide the planning guideline for the multi-purposed classroom in the elementary school and middle school using questionnaire and user participation method. As the user participation method, the design workshop in the study contains participation techniques, community action planning, and participation game. The design workshop used the design kit as a communication tool. Four user groups, selected from teachers and child in the elementary school and middle school, to be reconstructed, participated in a design workshop with design kit, and each group produced their own plans. The result of this study is as follows; (1) Teachers wanted multi-purposed classroom to be used by two classes. (2) The size of the multi-purposed classroom was preferred 1.5 times(30 py.) of the regular classroom. (3) By considering the characteristics of students it was required the open space in elementary, but required it to be separated from the regular classroom in middle school. (4) Through the analysis, we could grasp the processes that the users' needs were practically applied to design. Our design workshop method should be hereafter modified and advanced, but showed the usefulness in many aspects.
The purpose of this research consists in the process analysis and studying of the Residents-Participated Workshop which aims to improve the environment of common areas at the rental apartments, and also to present the spacial designs for the improved environment. The objects of this research are Susojugong Rental Apartments and total 3 Residents-Participated Workshops were held. The contents of the research are as follows; 1) Background and purposes of resident environmental improvement and associated group of people were examined. 2) Execution of Residents-Participated Workshop programs and the analysis of the process to present the plans of environmental improvement. The results of the research are; 1) representing variety of opinions and the increased sense of participation. 2) possibility of presenting designs initiated by residents through participatory design workshop. 3) improvement of relationships between managerial authorities, specialists and residents. 4) the place of interchange among residents. 5) necessity of assisting workshop tool, Resident-Participated Workshop programs and schedules. Environmentally improved designs which were presented at the workshop have been actually demonstrated at the Rental Apartments of this research. Follow up research on the process of construction, maintenance management of the construction after completion and the full contents should be studied further.
In order to build a successful cohousing, active residents' participation is necessarily needed. However, there is no evidence of participating in communal residents' facility in the step of design or planning in our country. In this study, the workshop process was analyzed to obtain the improvement of the residents' participation and its result was presented to help understand the concept of cohousing and its residents' participation. The workshop was conducted twice with six couples aged in their 30s and 40s. The design and planning of whole town was conducted in the first workshop. In the second workshop, the contents which was decided at the first was reviewed and revised. Through two workshop, participants became a positive mind for the cohousing and gave the active opinions of future's involvement. In the conclusion, the workshop guided by professionals is important to establish the effective cohousing village.
