  • As the concurrent engineering concept has emerged along with the support of optimization techniques, lots of endeavors have been made to apply optimization techniques to actual design problems for a holistic decision. Even if the range of design problems which the optimization is applicable to has been extended, most of ship designs still remain in an iterative approach due to the difficulties of seamless integration of all related design activities. In this approach, an entire design problem is divided into many sub-problems and carried out by many different disciplines through complicated internal interactions. This paper focuses on preliminary ship design process. This paper proposes a process centric integrated framework as the first step to establish a workflow based design process management system. The framework consists of two parts; a schedule management part to support a manager to monitor current progress status and adjust current schedule, and a process management part to assist a design to effectively perform a series of design activities by following a predefined procedure. Overall system are decomposed into modules according to the target to be managed in each module. Appropriate interactions between the decomposed modules are designed to achieve a consistency of the entire system. Design process model is also designed on a thorough analysis of actual ship design practice. The proposed framework will be embodied using a commercial workflow package.

  • Management of geo-workflow's changes is one of growing issues and requires more advanced ways and methods to deal with heterogeneous modifications and interactions of process, activity and event over time. A few dominant workflow models have coped with these subjects. There is, however, little consensus for explanation of six dimensions with regard to actor, activity, space, time, reason and effect. This study begins with examining environments of six dimensions and the Hexad model is proposed to elucidate the causes and results of a wide variety of geo-processes and activities. In this paper, we will introduce Hexad Object Activity Model making it possible to interpret manifest motivations, conditions and actions. Full descriptions of six dimensions are often useful for applying to the handling of diverse activities particularly requiring to clarify actor's goal and role at a specific time and space.

  • Recently, the off-line processes in the construction industry are being changed to the electronic processes by several information technology (IT) tools including CALS. To improve the business processes to on-line processes, the business process reengineering (BPR) is a representative methodology for reviewing unnecessary and additional processes from the established business procedure. This study suggests a new process modeling method for construction BPR (CBPR) that consists of object-related process model (ORPM). In suggested modeling method, the connection with IT tools such as Workflow, enterprise resource planning (ERP), construction CALS, and business breakdown structure (BBS) was considered. The ORPM in the study is the main model for representing the detailed construction processes. It consists of nine relationship and six diagrams to represent the relationship between construction activities and the direction within the process model. Those models suggested from this study can be a useful tool for the CBPR because the researches and the practical applications related to the BPR of construction project are insufficient in our construction industry.

  • The workflow, one of core features for modern business operation, models common elements and their relationships in business processes. The research is focused on how to adapt the workflow model to the healthcare examination which becomes popular these days. Especially, we intend to have fully automated process for healthcare examination by providing customers with PDA with RFTD chip. In order to realize this goal, this paper proposes the design of software architectures the class structures, and the definition of messages used for the system interactions. In other word, the paper shows the analysis of healthcare application in terms of service scenario and the design of workflow engine ant ubiquitous healthcare application under the Object-Oriented programming environment. the The result of the study may also enable the unmanned healthcare examination as well as ubiquitous based healcare examination sooner or later.

  • Systematic management of data related to business process, and information exchange within existing information systems or between different companies have recently become an important issue. This paper tries to solve such problems by using form based workflow system using XML(extensible Markup Language), a standard for digital document exchange. In this system, a new model that formalizes documents into XML form documents and manages them is developed. By defining and operating form documents by XML, information exchange within existing information systems such as ERP and SCM or between different companies, and interoperability between different WFMS can be easily achieved. In addition, by matching form, a formalized document, with existing database schema, WFMS can be directly applied to existing information system, thus enabling continuity of data management and business activity.

  • Workflow Management System(WfMS) enables corporations to manage business processes efficiently The purpose of this research is to develop a management system that is capable of managing complicated business processes efficiently under distributed environment where many companies or divisions are participating. Run-time encapsulation proposed in this paper is a system design methodology that enables appropriate response to the dynamically changing processes by using nested processes. We have implemented WfMS under Web environment using run-time encapsulation. Run-time encapsulation using nested process is an efficient development methodology for implementing heterogeneous and distributed WfMS under web environment.

  • In this paper, we describe issues related to standardized interaction among companies that are in the environments of heterogeneous information systems. The interaction method is detailed based on BPEL4WS, which is XML based standard specification. This paper provides method of interoperability using web service, which is considered a new information system paradigm. The method has importance in that it enables to exchange data in a platform independent manner. This paper deals with a method of interaction among heterogeneous information system based on BPEL4WS standard. The concepts of interoperability, XML, and workflow are introduced. The standards and previous research results related to interoperability are also provided. It describes brief introduction of BPEL4WS specification and its technical details. Integrated business process using BPEL4WS and interoperability issues are also included..

  • Nowadays, the web service was based on composing the e-business and distributed computing environment. But existing workflow management systems have many problems with the interoperability between companies because they are made before most web services. For these problems, the workflow based composition language such as the Business Process Execute Language for Web Services (BPEL4WS or BPEL) appeared in expressing the web service composition. In this paper, we present an event based rule management system architecture that executes automatically the BPEL using the Event-Condition-Action (ECA) rules. The event based rule management system consists of the event manager, rule manager, and Jess. The Jess is the part of executing and deciding the condition.
