Evaluation and management of work process in dredger using ECDIS (ECDIS에 의한 준설선의 작업공정 관리 및 평가)

  • This paper describes on the evaluation and management of work process in suction hopper dredger and grab bucket dredger as an application of a PC-based ECDIS system. The dynamic tracking of dredging bucket and the data logging of grab dredging information were performed by using the grab dredging vessel "Kunwoong G-18". The position and route tracking of the dredger moving toward the ocean dumping site of dredged material was performed by using the hopper dredging vessel "Samyang-7". The evaluation of wok process in the dredging field, for grab dredger, was continuously carried out on January to May, 2006, in Incheon Hang and for hopper dredger, on July to December, 2003, in Busan Hang, Korea. The dredging information, such as dredger's position, heading, dredging depth and route track which was individually time stamped during the dredging operation, was automatically processed in real-time on the ECDIS and displayed simultaneously on the S-57 ENC chart. From these results, we conclude that the ECDIS system can be applied as a tool in order to manage the work process during the dredging operation, and also in order to generate the factual record of the dredging activities that is sufficient for dredging inspector to accurately evaluate the contract performance even in the absence of a full-time onboard inspector.

  • Quite a few of persons often fall into an error that ISO has happened an additional work at construction sites. Supervision works, however, are carried out in compliance with 'Guidelines for the Supervision Works' which is including most ISO Requirements. Additional requirements needed for the supervision works are not many. This study has studied on the ISO application of supervision works in relation to, 1) ISO 9001 & KS A 9001 Quality Management System Basic Model, 2) The Process of Railway Construction Work Supervision Quality Management Plan, 3) Supervision Work Performance Guide Book(2005) & KS A 9001(2001) Standard, at the railway construction sites.

Development of BIM-based Work Process Model in Construction Phase (시공단계의 BIM기반 건설사업관리 업무절차 모델 개발)

  • BIM can be utilized variously in construction management(CM) in the respect that it helps to manage comprehensively the construction information and make reliable decisions, but the adoption of BIM is insufficient in the CM area. The purpose of this study is to develop work process models and their guides in order to utilize BIM effectively in CM work at construction stage. This study defined BIM functions as 'BIM converting design', 'Model review', 'Data extraction', 'Automatic estimate', '4D simulation', 'Drawing creation', 'Engineering sector linkage analysis' through literature search, and generated CM works applicable to BIM by analyzing the CM work and process. This study developed BIM-based CM work process models by reconstructing the existing work process in connection with BIM function through an analysis on the relationship between BIM function and CM work, and reconstructing the role of each project participants. In order to improve the usefulness of the developed models, guides that described the BIM works of project participants were prepared through interviews and case studies. To validate the utilization of the models, a comparative analysis on the BIM process of precedent studies was also made and a survey was conducted on experts. This study can contribute to increasing the utilization of BIM in the CM area and can be helpful for CM companies to develop an in-house BIM guide. In the future, it will be necessary to make an assessment on the models from a business perspective through case applications and constantly update BIM-based CM work process model in consideration of the expansion of CM work due to the application of BIM.

  • This study aims to identify the work process of records managers under the Freedom of Information Act (FOI). In particular, it attempted to reveal the problems and difficulties that record managers encounter during FOI work. To do this, this study conducted in-depth interviews with 11 records managers who were in charge of records management and FOI work, and the accumulated data were subjectively analyzed. The study discussed the relationship between records management and FOI and emphasized the need for procedural improvements of the act to alleviate psychological pressure on records managers and help them focus more on the records management process itself.

  • This study aims at improving work reliability. It proposes a way to overcome the limitations of current scheduling methods by providing a new framework, CPAM(Construction Process Analysis Model) based on the lean principles. It suggests methods which improve work reliability and production effectiveness with variability control methods. Also it suggests methods which reduce inventories of materials and equipment and WIP(Work In Process) using two techniques; Lookahead Schedule and Weekly Work Plan. The contribution of this research also includes that it assumes planning as a process of reducing uncertainty and maximizing throughput, counter-posing plan reliability to resource redundancy as alternative strategies for managing in conditions of uncertain work flow.

  • Currently, 10% of the domestic aircraft accidents and 9% of delays and cancellations were generated due to poor maintenance. Aircraft maintenance work is divided into works in material warehouse and in hangar. In material warehouse, the problem in aircraft maintenance work is occurred when the serial number of parts are identified and entered. In hangar, work order are duplicatively written. In addition, the maintenance information is not shared and then work order is wrong delivered. In this study, we analyzed the maintenance process and the informations that occurs in the material warehouse and hangar for large airline company to solve the problems. And serial numbers are replaced by QR code. And documented work order and manual are handled using the tablet PC. In conclusion, this paper studied smart work of maintenance process about tire parts. We expect to improve the inefficiency of identification of serial number and total maintenance time is reduced by real-time information sharing.

Rebar Fabrication Process in Both Field Processing and Factory Processing for Adopting Lean Construction

  • Due to increasing competition of construction companies, it is required to optimize the management of construction projects and "lean" concepts are rapidly spreaded in construction industry. Steel work accounts for a large proportion in construction work, and a variety of attempts to efficiently perform steel work has currently made. And since rebar (Engineer-to-Order) can be engineered through design once order is placed, it gives the great impact on construction, thus, entire management is required. The purpose of this study is to present the method to increase the efficiency of field processing method of steel work in terms of lean construction. Once we examine process of steel work and identify the flow, we would like to analyze which processes should be improved through value analysis approach and present the improvement plans. Also, this study examines cases of field processing and factory processing, and it identifies the waste factors in the procurement process. Finally, this study would like to present the result of analysis from the perspectives of value. The rebar delivery process is divided into several steps and the duration of every step is surveyed. Using duration data, VAT (Value added time) can be calculated for analyzing the efficiency of the process.

Evaluation for Operational Efficiency of Road Management Equipment using Analytical Hierarchy Process (계층분석법을 이용한 도로관리장비 운영의 효율성 평가)

  • PURPOSES: Regional offices of the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs use a computerized system called KAMIS so as to manage road equipment systematically. Road agencies can record number of operating days by equipment, actual working hours, accumulated operating hours (or distance) by equipment, and operating cost. However, KAMIS does not provide critical information, although it is strongly related to efficient road management equipment operation. In other words, road agencies do not know whether they have sufficient equipment to handle their actual work. METHODS: Therefore, this study suggests a methodology to evaluate for operational efficiency of road management equipment using analytical hierarchy process(AHP). First of all, estimated weights related criteria can be produced by AHP, and then use operational history by pieces of equipment. RESULTS: Results show that importance of management work can differ from weather conditions through five areas. CONCLUSIONS: Commonly, this results can imply to help save money for the purchase and maintenance of road management equipment, and they would improve the functional performance of KAMIS.

  • The definition of cycle time is the time from the wafer start to the wafer output. It usually takes one or two months to get the product since customer decides to produce it. The cycle time is a critical factor for customer satisfaction because it represents the response time to the market. Long cycle time reflects the ineffective investment for the capital. The cycle time is very important for foundry because long cycle time will cause customer unsatisfied and the order loss. Consequently, all of the foundries put lots of human source in the cycle time improvement. Usually, we make decisions based on the experience in the cycle time management. We have no mechanism or theory for cycle time management. We do work-in-process (WIP) management based on turn rate and standard WIP (STD WIP) set by experiences. But the experience didn't mean the optimal solution, when the situation changed, the cycle time or the standard WIP will also be changed. The experience will not always be applicable. If we only have the experience and no mechanism, management will not be work out. After interview several foundry fab managers, all of the fab can't reflect the situation. That is, all of them will have an impact period after product mix or utilization varied. In this study, we want to develop a formula for standard WIP and use statistical process control (SPC) concept to set WIP upper/lower limit level. When WIP exceed the limit level, it will trigger action plans to compensate WIP Profile. If WIP Profile balances, we don't need too much WIP. So WIP level could be reduced and cycle time also could be reduced.

  • In order to reduce the construction cost and period without degrading the quality, construction companies are making a lot of efforts to prefabricate and mechanize the construction process, and introducing and utilizing various techniques of construction time management in the process of construction. However, due to the various factors (such as weather conditions, labor factors, supply of equipment and materials, safety accident, etc) in the process of construction, construction projects are not frequently completed within the scheduled Period. This research is to examine the current status of construction time management and factors causing delay in construction with regard to the concrete work (such as form work, steel reinforcement, and concrete work) in building apartments.
