Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), which is a newly emerging infectious disease worldwide, can be categorized as an occupational disease, because employees, particularly in the healthcare system, can be infected at the workplace. As of December 15, 2020, we summarized the occupational safety and health practices in selected countries on the recognition of COVID-19 as one of the occupational risks. The situation has differed among countries, including the recognition status and whether a specific regulation existed. International organizations, namely the International Labour Organization, World Health Organization, and European Union, should plan and conduct studies on the work-relatedness of COVID-19, propose criteria for recognition, and add the infection to the occupational disease list to provide a basis for specific country regulations. Stakeholders should also act to adjust country-level legislation.
The purpose of this study is to identify the overall occupational safety and health status and the characteristics of the workers engaged in the field of the film and television artists, and to take appropriate measures to prevent industrial accidents, profession and working environment, safety recognition and education, safety activities, accident experience, and job stress survey. Survey using a structured questionnaire is to be used for 302 worker directly interview research. Safety awareness level of himself or herself was "middle level" of 3.1 points. Those of colleagues and the general public were evaluated to be low as 2.8 points and 2.5 points, respectively. During the last 12 months, 4.6% of total workers have received an industrial safety health education for work-related accident or disease. Regarding cases of having experienced work-related accident or having been exposed to work-related disease over the past 1 year, 20.2% of total respondents have experienced accident. 16.2% of total respondents have experienced work-related disease. And the workers are approximately one's own subjective feeling of physical symptoms that have appeared. In addition, the film sector workers in particular occupations men than women have higher job stress. Preventive education for industrial safety is required to be expanded and strengthened. Safety education is urgently required in order to prevent, and to reduce accident. Safety and health guideline is required to be developed and disseminated in order to prevent accident in advance. Finally, the actor and their staff members to reduce the stress, mental health care and education carefully needs to be in parallel. Also, when taking measures to reinforce safe work environment, it needs to be protected.
Objectives : Recently work-related musculoskeletal disorders have increased in various workplaces and many reports have been confirming this, but a comparative study on incidence of spinal disease by occupation has not been established yet. So this study was designed to clarify the distinction on incidence of spinal disease between white and blue collar workers. Methods : The subjects who visited with spinal disease to Ja-Seng oriental hospital from January to April in 2020 were selected and divided into white collar workers(n=844) and blue collar workers(n=333). We counted the number of patients with each spinal disease in both groups and carried out comparative analysis in five items(herniated nucleus pulposus(HNP), stenosis, spondylosis, sprain, etc). All data were analyzed by chi-square test. Results and Conclusions : Whit collar workers had higher incidence in HNP(p=0.030), sprain(p=0.016),etc(p=0.035) than blue collar workers, while blue collar workers had higher incidence in stenosis(p=0.002). But we think that the confidence is low in stenosis because the number of cases are very small. There were no significance between two groups with spondylosis.

Objective: This study was conducted to investigate the awareness of work-related disease prevention of farmers. Method: As a research method, a qualitative focus group interview was conducted in 18 participants. Results: Prevention and management services for work-related diseases of farmers mostly are based on research from other fields and so are not highly effective because their content is not relevant to agricultural work. It has been suggested that such program designers be required to have some appropriate related knowledge, and that incentives and a certification system for participation in such education be established. To analyze work-related diseases of farmers, fields of prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation should be created. They demanded the designation of hospitals and the actualization of compensation for farmers' safety insurance. The work-related diseases to address were include musculoskeletal diseases, pesticide poisoning-related diseases (cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease), psychiatric diseases such as depression, and allergic diseases. However, this must have been the result of the harmful factors they felt during agricultural work. And for farmer patients diagnosed with work-related diseases, it was said to strengthen farmer safety insurance. Conclusion: In order to increase the safely and health effects of agricultural work, it is necessary to prevent and manage work-related diseases of farmers. Projects should be developed in consideration of cultural and economic barriers of farmers and the characteristics of the work.
Purpose: This study was conducted at small-to-medium-sized manufacture enterprises less than 300 employees. Method: For 167 workers in 12 small-to-medium-sized manufacture, we examined the self-recording questionnaires about general characteristics, health characteristics, occupational characteristics and subjective musculoskeletal symptoms designed by NIOSH. Result: Related factors of upper limb musculoskeletal symptoms were found in using of the PC except work, the speed control at working and inappropriate positions for neck, and that using of the PC except work, the degree of intensity at working and the speed control at working for shoulder, and that the degree of intensity at working, the speed control at working, inappropriate positions and excessive workforce for arm/elbow, and that the degree of intensity at working, the speed control at working, inappropriate positions, excessive strong and vibration for hand/wrist/fingers. Conclusion: As a result of multiple logistic regression analysis, musculoskeletal symptoms of neck were influenced by use of the PC except work, household work, and the speed control at working, symptoms of shoulder by using of the PC of except work and the degree of intensity at working, symptoms of arm/elbow by the speed control at working, and symptoms of hand/wrist/fingers by the degree of intensity at work and excessive workforce.
Background: The success of an injury intervention program can be measured by the proportion of successful return to work (RTW). This study examined factors of successful return to employment among workers suffering from work-related injuries. Methods: Data were obtained from the Social Security Organization, Malaysia database consisting of 10,049 RTW program participants in 2010-2014. The dependent variable was the RTW outcome which consisted of RTW with same employer, RTW with new employer or unsuccessful return. Multinomial logistic regression was performed to test the likelihood of successful return with same employer and new employer against unsuccessful return. Results: Overall, 65.3% of injured workers were successfully returned to employment, 52.8% to the same employer and 12.5% to new employer. Employer interest; motivation; age 30-49 years; intervention less than 9 months; occupational disease; injuries in the lower limbs, upper limbs, and general injuries; and working in the manufacturing, services, and electrical/electronics were associated with returning to work with the same employer against unsuccessful return. Male, employer interest, motivation, age 49 years or younger, intervention less than 6 months, occupational disease, injuries in the upper limbs and services sector of employment were associated with returning to new employer against unsuccessful return. Conclusion: There is a need to strengthen employer commitment for early and intensified intervention that will lead to improvement in the RTW outcome.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to analyze the recent trends in patients with work-related musculoskeletal disorders in South Korea and to check the major results by reviewing the literature on the risk factors and prevalence of musculoskeletal diseases related to work. Methods: Industrial disaster data from the Ministry of Employment and Labor from 2012 to 2021 were used, and the literature was reviewed regarding risk factors for musculoskeletal diseases related to work using PubMed and RISS. Results: The trend of patients with work-related musculoskeletal disorders has increased overall since 2017 after declining until 2016, with a particularly notable increase in the average annual number of patients with physical burden work. The average annual rate per ten thousand people for patients with body burden work, non-accidental lower back pain, and carpal tunnel syndrome among work-related diseases was high in the mining industry. The average annual rate per ten thousand people for patients with accidental lower back pain was the highest in the fishing industry. Within the manufacturing field, it was the highest in the shipbuilding and ship repair industry. As a result of the literature review, the search rate for work-related musculoskeletal disease papers in unstructured work was high. In addition, physical stress factors were high among risk factors, and pain areas showed a high rate for the waist. Conclusion: Even after the institutional implementation of a hazard investigation system related to musculoskeletal diseases is implemented, the number of patients with occupational musculoskeletal disorders continues to increase. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct regular surveys and implement effective improvement activities for vulnerable industries or occupations.
Purpose: This study was conducted to analyze the annual trends and characteristics of work-related mental disorders including suicide among Korean workers. Methods: Employing the Industrial Accident Compensation Insurance (IACI) data collected by the Korea Worker's Compensation & Welfare Service, we analyzed total work-related mental disorders and suicide cases (n=455) claimed to IACI from 2008 to 2012. We paid a special attention to workers' socioeconomic status and occupational characteristics. Results: The number of injured workers and industrial accident rate decreased during the study period, whereas the case of work-related mental disorders showed significant increase. Mental disorders cases were more prevalent in workers who were male, aged the 40s, and engaged in finance, as well as with 1-5 years of working duration than their respective counterparts. Increasing trend of suicide cases was statistically significant by the Cochran-Mantel-Haenszel test (p=.002). Conclusion: This study suggests that work-related mental disorder management strategy and system should be established.
The psychiatric patients as subjects were categorized herein into disease- and accident-triggered groups to statistically compare them with each other in terms of various comparative items. At a result, male patients were more dominant than females and physical workers were outnumbered by mental workers in the two groups. Also, patients were more apparent at workplaces with at least 100 employees than the ones with less than 100 employees, and patients whose employment period is at least one year were more vulnerable to stress-related mental disorders than the ones whose employment period falls short of one year. The foregoing findings suggest that there is a need to take preventive measures considering vulnerable aspects in terms of mental disorders.
