Relationship Between Shift Intensity and Insomnia Among Hospital Nurses in Korea: A Cross-sectional Study

  • Objectives: This study explored the relationship between shift intensity and insomnia among hospital nurses. Methods: The participants were 386 female hospital nurses who underwent a special health examination for night workers in 2015. The Korean Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), indices of shift work intensity, and other covariates such as amount of exercise, level of alcohol consumption, employment duration, and hours worked were extracted from the health examination data. The indices for shift intensity were (1) number of 3 consecutive night shifts and (2) number of short recovery periods after a previous shift, both assessed over the prior 3 months. Multiple logistic regression analysis adjusted for the aforementioned covariates was performed to evaluate the association of shift intensity with insomnia, defined as an ISI score of ≥8. Results: The nurses with insomnia tended to be younger (p=0.029), to have worked 3 consecutive night shifts more frequently (p<0.001), to have experienced a greater number of short recovery periods after the previous shift (p=0.021), and to have worked for more hours (p=0.006) than the nurses without insomnia. Among the other variables, no statistically significant differences between groups were observed. Experiences of 3 or more consecutive night shifts (odds ratio [OR], 2.33; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.29 to 4.20) and 3 or more short recovery periods (OR, 2.01; 95% CI, 1.08 to 3.73) were associated with increased odds of insomnia. Conclusions: The results suggest that decreasing the shift intensity may reduce insomnia among hospital nurses working rotating shifts.

광주·전남 병리과에 근무하는 임상병리사들의 상지 근골격계 자각증상에 관한 연구 (Research on the WRMD (Work Related Musculoskeletal Disorders) in Medical Technologists Who Work in Gwang-ju City and Jeollanam-do Province)

  • The main purpose of this study was to investigate relationship between WRMD (Work Related Musculoskeletal Disorders) symptoms and dangerous factors in medical technologistes who work in Gwang-ju city and Jeollanam-do province. Experimental group was 74 medical technologistes at hospital centers, hospitals, general hospitals, university hospitals. From the this survey, we found that significant statistical difference in WRMD symptoms by general characteristics (sex, exercise) and working environmental characteristics (examination numbers, time of margin, repetition, intensity of work, time of using PC). In the general factors, Odds ration in male vs female, do exercise vs do not exercise were 4.557 (95% CI=1.003-20.713), 2.747 (95% CI=0.59-12.783). In working environment factors, Odds ration in little of examination numbers vs a lot of examination numbers, little of time margin vs a lot of time margin, non repetitive vs repetitive, non intensity of work vs intensity of work, little of pc using time vs a lot of pc using time were 1.901 (95% CI=0.828-4.363), 1.15 (95% CI=0.335-3.944), 3.952 (95% CI=1.095-14.262), 1.411 (95% CI=0252-7.891), 2.606 (95% CI=1.055-6.437) respectively. For prevention of WRMD symptoms, Most of hospitals should improve medical technologists of working circumstances, especially control a intensive of work, working speed and guarantee enough break time. Therefore, This study suggests that increasing workers and examination of automation, streching during working be needed.

조리유형별 메뉴의 노동강도 측정에 관한 연구 (A Study on Measuring the Labor Intensity of Menus according to Various Cooking Types)

  • The purpose of this study was to measure the labor intensity of menus according to various cooking types. Through a literature review and in-depth interview, the attributes that affected the labor intensity were identified as the level of skill, amount of effort, degree of tiredness, time consumed, and machine usage. A survey was conducted in April, 2001 among cooks who Dew the entire process of cooking. There was a strong positive correlation between labor intensity and labor intensity attributes. Through regression analysis, a regression equation was obtained between labor intensity and labor intensity attributes. The labor intensity index calculated from this study showed the extent of labor intensity of menus. The result of this study could be used as basic data for foodservice manager to establish a menu planning and work schedule based on a scientific method.

고온 크리프 구조물의 장시간 한계응력강도 예측 (Prediction of Long-Term Stress Intensity Limit of High-Temperature Creep Structures)

  • In order to predict stress intensity limit of high-temperature creep structures, creep work-time equation, defined as $W_ct^P=B$, was used, and the results of the equation were compared with isochronous stress-strain curve (ISSC) ones of ASME BPV NH Code. For this purpose, the creep strain tests with. time variations for commercial type 316 stainless steel were conducted with different stresses; 160 MPa, 150 MPa, 145 MPa, 140 MPa and 135 MPa at $593^{\circ}C$. The results of log $W_c$ and log t plots showed a good linear relation up to $10^5$ hr. The constants p, B and stress intensity limit values showed comparatively good agreement to those of ASME NH ISSC. It is believed that the relation can be simply obtained with only several short-term 1% strain data without ISSC which can be obtained by long-term creep data.

Effect of Difference in Warm-Up Intensity During 75%1RM Bench Press Exercise on Number of Repetitions, Total Work, and RPP

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the intensity of warm-up exercise on the physiological response and exercise performance during resistance exercise. For this purpose, 8 male college students with at least 1 year of experience in resistance movement were selected. The warm-up condition was set to NON condition (preparatory exercise not performed), 3 set condition, 6 set condition, and 9 set condition, and the intensity was different for each set. After warm-up, 75% 1RM of main exercise was performed, and blood pressure and heart rate were measured immediately after exercise to measure RPP. The number of repetitions and total work for each condition were measured as the number of repetitions and momentum during the main exercise. The measured data were analyzed by repeated measures two-way ANOVA. As a result, although there was no difference in Rate Pressure Product according to the warm-up conditions, the number of repetitions and total amount of exercise showed the highest in the 3-set condition. Therefore, it is thought that the number and intensity of warm-up exercises should be set appropriately during resistance exercise, and warm-up of 3 sets or more during resistance exercise is thought to decrease exercise performance.

일개 생산직 근로자들의 작업수행과 피로도와의 관계 (Relations between Fatigue and Work-related Factors in Workers)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relations between fatigue and work-related factors in workers. Methods: A total of 204 subjects aged between 21 and 59 were selected through convenient sampling. Data were collected with a self-reported questionnaire from May 20 to 31, 2011. Collected data were analyzed with SPSS/WIN 17.0. Results: Difference in fatigue according to general characteristics was significant according to duty type. Difference in fatigue according to occupational characteristics was significant according to work intensity, work speed, demand of work concentration, work space, physical environment, largest weight by hands, vibration, visual demand of work, difficulty of work practice, work stress, and rest hours in holiday. There was a positive correlation between fatigue and occupational characteristics. Stepwise multiple regression analyses showed that educational level, work intensity, and rest hours in holiday were the strongest factors associated with fatigue ($R^2$=.363 p<.001). These factors explained fatigue by 36.3%. Conclusion: The findings of this study may be useful in understanding workers' fatigue and developing more specific fatigue relief programs.

만성질환 노인의 활동 제한에 영향을 미치는 요인: 국민건강영양조사 제 8기 자료를 활용하여 (Factors Affecting Activity Restriction in the Elderly with Chronic Disease: Using data from the 8th period of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey)

  • 본 연구는 국민건강영양조사 제 8기 원시 자료를 활용하여 65세 이상 2,701명의 정상 노인과 만성질환 노인의 활동 제한에 영향을 주는 요인을 파악하기 위해서 복합표본 로지스틱 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 만성질환 노인이 정상 노인보다 활동 제한을 느낀다고 조사되었다. 뇌졸중, 고혈압 환자의 활동 제한 요인으로는 주관적 건강 상태, 경제 수준, 스트레스 인지 정도, 중강도의 일과 여가이다. 심장질환 환자의 활동 제한 요인으로는 주관적 건강 상태, 경제 수준이었으며, 관절질환 환자의 활동 제한의 요인으로는 주관적 건강 상태, 고강도의 일과 여가이다. 폐 질환 환자의 활동 제한요인으로는 교육 수준, 고강도의 일과 여가이며, 내분비계 환자의 활동 제한의 요인으로는 주관적 건강 상태, 스트레스 인지 정도, 고강도의 일과 여가이며, 암 환자의 활동 제한의 요인으로는 주관적 건강 상태, 스트레스 인지 정도, 중강도의 일과 고강도의 여가이다. 만성질환 노인의 지속적인 활동 참여를 위한 재활프로그램과 정책적 지원이 필요하다.

시뮬레이션 기법에 기초한 근골격계 질환 감소를 위한 용접자세 분석 (Analysis of Welding Positions for Reduction of Musculoskeletal Disorders Based on Simulation Technique)

  • The industrial disaster caused by a work-related disease like a Musculoskeletal Disorders(MSDs) becomes a big social problem and increases rapidly. This leads to the degradation of the labor desire and the productivity. Welding work belongs to the work with a high intensity. This paper aims to analyze the welding work in the various positions from a view-point of the burden of the human musculoskeletal system and to propose the desired position with lower burden. For this purpose the real welding work was observed in the shipyard and analyzed using the RULA method, a powerful ergonomics tool. The 3-dimensional simulation model fur this work was also developed. In this model, ergonomics human model and welding work environment were built. This model was verified through the comparison to the real work. This paper showed that the improvement of welding position by changing the location of a stool and using some auxiliary tool can reduce the work intensity remarkably and lead to the decrease of MSDs.

임상간호사의 상사신뢰도, 간호업무강도, 조직냉소주의가 조직침묵에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Trust in Supervisor, Work Intensity and Organizational Cynicism on Organizational Silence in Clinical Nurses)

  • 본 연구는 임상간호사의 조직침묵에 상사신뢰도, 업무강도와 조직냉소주의가 미치는 영향에 대한 서술적 조사연구이다. 자료수집은 2018년 2월부터 3월 까지 B광역시와 U광역시에 소재한 100병상 이상의 6개 병원에 근무하는 임상간호사 134명을 대상으로 실시하였다. 자료분석은 SPSS 25.0 program을 활용하여 임상간호사의 상사신뢰도, 간호업무강도, 조직냉소주의, 조직침묵의 정도는 평균과 표준편차, 일반적 특성에 따른 상사신뢰도, 간호업무강도, 조직냉소주의, 조직침묵의 차이는 t-test와 one-way ANOVA, 사후검증은 $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test, 상관관계는 Pearson correlation coefficient, 조직침묵에 미치는 영향요인은 단계적 다중회귀분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과의 상관관계에서 조직침묵은 상사신뢰도와 유의한 음의 상관(r=-.32, p<.001), 업무강도와 유의한 양의 상관(r=.18, p=.043)을 나타냈다. 조직침묵에 미치는 영향요인은 상사신뢰도(${\beta}=-.36$, p<.001)가 가장 컸으며, 다음이 현재의 병원 근무기간 중 10년 이상(${\beta}=-.67$, p=.002), 근무형태 중 상근근무(${\beta}=-.79$, p=.022), 3교대 근무(${\beta}=-.64$, p<.001)였고 총 설명력은 26.0%였다(F=11.47, p<.001). 이상의 연구결과에 근거하여 간호조직에서 임상간호사와 상사의 신뢰도 향상안, 다양한 근무형태 등 업무강도의 변화를 통해 조직침묵 개선을 위한 중재가 이루어져야 할 것이다.

  • The purpose of this study is not only to provide students in the fishery high schools with source materials and opportunity, but also to contribute to a comprehensive development in educational program of the fishery high schools. It investigated various factors of aquarium related 6 new occupations : job contents, educational-level for job performance, training period, worker's capacity, the degree of physical activity, working place, and working environment. First, the work intensity is a normal work. The physical activities such as crawling, bending, accurately seeing a nearby thing and using hands are frequently used. The work is mainly conducted inside a room. The condition for a work environment is very moist and humid. Second, the work intensity is a light work. The physical activities such as using hands, speaking and accurately seeing a nearby thing are frequently used. The work is mainly conducted inside and outside a room. The work environment factor did not have any effect on the work. Third, the work is mainly conducted inside and outside a room. The risk in the condition for a work environment is found out as miscellaneous. Fourth, the physical activities such as bending, touching, and accurately seeing a nearby thing are frequently used. The work is mainly conducted inside a room. The work environment factor did not have any effect on the work. Fifth, the work is mainly conducted inside a room.
