  • Since the competitive environment, work overload among employees has been increasing. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the impact of work overload on safety behavior and its intermediating mechanisms. In specific, this paper delves into the mediating effect of job stress, as well as the moderating effect of job crafting in the association between work overload and job stress. To empirically test the hypotheses, this study utilized survey data from 168 Korean employees by conducting structural equation modeling(SEM) analysis. The results demonstrated that work overload has a positive (+) influence on job stress, which has a negative (-) influence on safety behavior. Moreover, job stress mediated the association between work overload and safety behavior. Furthermore, job crafting moderated the work overload-safety behavior link.

  • Firefighters are exposed to extreme stress and risk owing to the nature of their work. This can lead to psychological burnout, and work overload can result in lethargy and depression. This study aims to analyze the mediating effect of depression on the impact of heavy workloads on psychological exhaustion among firefighters. We conducted a survey among firefighters in various regions of Korea to analyze the levels of work overload, depression, and psychological burnout. The analysis yielded the following results. First, work overload, depression, and psychological exhaustion showed positive correlations. Second, the mediating effect of depression on the relationship between work overload and psychological exhaustion was verified. This study confirms the necessity of the systematic management of psychological exhaustion by addressing the mediating role of depression in the context of heavy workloads. This study is expected to serve as foundational data for policy measures aimed at reducing the burden on firefighters, and maintaining their mental health.

  • This study investigates i) the effect of salesperson's self efficacy and work overload on emotional labor and ii) the mediating role of emotion. A survey questionnaire is developed and implemented on salespersons working in the fashion retail stores of department stores. The measurement scales are composed of emotional labor, self efficacy, work overload and emotion. A total of 112 responses are analyzed by confirmatory factor analysis and a structural equation model with AMOS18.0. The results are as follows. Firstly, self efficacy has direct effect on both deep acting and surface acting of emotional labor without the mediating effect of emotion. Self efficacy has a positive effect on deep acting. Secondly, work overload has a negative effect on emotion. Job emotion has positive effect on deep acting and it has a negative effect on surface acting. Thirdly, emotion has a significant mediating effect between work overload and emotional labor. Finally, implications for personal management and job design in the fashion retail organizations are suggested.

So, entrepreneurs try to increase job intensity, which may lead to job stress and high turnovers because of job burnout. But, Information systems are acknowledged as a work support tool that secures work convenience and the productivity of employees. In this study, we aimed to confirm the effects of information systems in reduing the work overload of employees in a human resource intensive industry. Research design, data and methodology - This is based on the job demands-resources model, conducting an empirical analysis of surveys given to hospital employees working in a human resource intensive industry. Results - The research revealed that information systems reduced the work overload of employees in a human resource intensive industry. Conclusion - This study confirmed the effects of information systems as a job resource based on JD-R theory, and presentation of empirical results indicated that information systems alleviate employee job overload and increases job satisfaction in the medical services industry. • This study aimed to verify the mediating effect of job burnout on the relationship between work overload and turnover intention among IT workers. For this study, a sample of 499 IT workers completed the online questionnaires: job demand scale, job burnout(emotional exhaustion, cynicism, professional efficacy) scale, turnover intention scale. The collected data were statistically analyzed using SPSS 25.0, and the Sobel test was conducted to verify the mediating effect. The results showed that work overload had a significant positive correlation with emotional exhaustion, cynicism, and turnover intention. Work overload had significant positive effects on emotional exhaustion and turnover intention. The full mediating effect of emotional exhaustion on the relationship between work overload and turnover intention was verified. Based on the findings, we discussed the necessity of addressing emotional exhaustion to prevent issues related to work overload and turnover intention among IT workers. Finally, we proposed human resource management strategies to address job burnout in IT workers and suggested directions for future research.

  • The use of mobile office systems has been expanded due to the smartphones' rapid diffusion in Korea, and it has brought a new work environment that is different from traditional working patterns. In this study, the unique attributes of mobile office systems, such as ubiquity, usefulness, complexity, and insecurity, are examined along with the impact of these attributes on work overload and job stress. Based on transaction-based model of job stress, organizational support was applied as a stress inhibitor and also the moderator between work overload and job stress. The findings of this study show that ubiquity increases usefulness of mobile office systems; complexity increases both work overload and job stress; and insecurity increases job stress. Surprisingly, usefulness increases job stress, which means employees who perceive the efficiency of mobile office systems higher may feel more job stress. Organizational support for mobile office systems significantly shows the moderating effect, but no direct mitigating effect on job stress. The theoretical and practical implications in order to mitigate the side effects of mobile office systems based on the research findings are thoroughly discussed.

  • Previous works on safety behavior have paid less attention to the influence of several leadership styles on safety behavior. Among the various leadership styles, I focus on the effect of coaching leadership on safety behavior. To be specific, this paper investigates the impact of coaching leadership on safety behavior and its underlying mechanisms (mediator) as well as contextual factor (moderator). This research examines the sequential mediating effect of perceived organizational support and organizational identification in the association between coaching leadership and safety behavior. Also, work overload will negatively moderate the coaching leadership-perceived organizational support link. My results showed coaching leadership increases employee safety behavior through the sequential mediation of perceived organizational support and organizational identification. In addition, work overload functions as a negative moderator which diminishes the positive effect of coaching leadership on perceived organizational support.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the causality among technostress creators. In doing so, we can suggest the ways how to reduce a technostress of employees. Research results suggest that pace of change has a positive effect on the work overload and has a negative effect on work-home conflict. Complexity of technology positively influences not only work overload but job insecurity. Work overload has a significant effect on work-home conflict. Finally, work-home conflict has a positive effect on job insecurity. Conclusions and implications are discussed.

  • This study analyzed the effect of an employee's psychological capacity(positive psychological capital), on perceived work overload, and explored how trust in supervisor moderated this relationship. In addition, we examined how positive psychological capital and perceived work overload influenced turnover intention. In doing so, we identified the antecedents of perceived work overload, and suggested ways to nurture positive psychological capital in organizations. Using survey data from 214 employees in the manufacturing industry in Korea, we found that positive psychological capital was negatively related to perceived work overload, and that the relationship was moderated by trust in supervisors. In addition, positive psychological capital was negatively associated while perceived work overload was positively associated with turnover intention. Results suggest the importance of understanding positive psychological capital given its crucial relationship with perceived work overload and turnover intention. The result also emphasizes the role that trust in supervisor plays, and the need to nurture employees' positive psychological capital in organizations.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of techno-overload and techno-invasion on work-family conflict and the mediating role of psychological detachment from work to techno-overload and techno-invasion. In addition, this study examined the moderating role of leader-member exchange in the relationship between techno-overload, techno-invasion and psychological detachment from work. The results from 306 participants provided evidence that (1) techono-invasion was negatively related to psychological detachment from work, (2) psychological detachment from work was negatively related to work-family conflict, (3) psychological detachment from work partially mediated the relationship between techno-invasion and work-family conflict (4) leader-member exchange moderated the relationship between techno-invasion and psychological detachment from work. Based on the results, implications of these findings, limitations, and future research were dicussed in general discussion.
