A reader usually spends a lot of time browsing and searching word meaning in a dictionary, internet or smart applications in order to find the unknown words. In this paper, we propose a method to compensate this drawback. The proposed method introduces a vocabulary upon recognizing a word or group of words that was captured by a smart phone camera. Through this proposed method, organizing and editing words that were captured by smart phone, searching the dictionary data using bisection method, listening pronunciation with the use of speech synthesizer, building and editing of vocabulary stored in database are given as the features. A smart phone application for organizing English words was established. The proposed method significantly reduces the organizing time for unknown English words and increases the English learning efficiency.
Unlike Seoul dialect, in the Busan dialect, /ㅅ/ and /ㅆ/ are phonemically non-distinctive and realization of tensing is non-productive, on the other hand, that of voicing is productive. In order to discover causes of such characteristics in Busan dialect, this paper firstly compared acoustic characteristics of Seoul dialect with those of Busan dialect on fricative /ㅅ/ and /ㅆ/. The result showed that Busan dialect has much shorter length of friction and aspiration intervals of word initial and word-medial position than Seoul dialect. I expect that these results are important keys to discover causes of the following characteristics of Busan-dialect - non-distinction, non-productivity of tensing, and productivity of voicing - on Fricative /ㅅ/ and /ㅆ/.
This paper proposes a MSHMM(Multi-Section Hidden Markov Model) recognition method based on Fuzzy Concept, as a method on the speech recognition of speaker-independent. In this recognition method, training data are divided into several section and multi-observation sequences given proper probabilities by fuzzy rule according to order of short distance from MSVQ codebook per each section are obtained. Thereafter, the HMM per each section using this multi-observation sequences is generated, and in case of recognition, a word that has the most highest probability is selected as a recognized word. In this paper, other experiments to compare with the results of these experiments are implemented by the various conventional recognition methods(DP, MSVQ, DMS, general HMM) under the same data. Through results of all-round experiment, it is proved that the proposed MSHMM based on fuzzy concept is superior to DP method, MSVQ method, DMS model and general HMM model in recognition rate and computational time, and does not decreases recognition rate as 92.91% in spite of increment of speaker number.
In this paper, we describe an isolated words recognition system for Korean isolated digits based on a voiced -unvoiced decision algorithm and a frequency domain analysis. The algorithm first performs a voiced-unvoiced decision procedure for the begtinning part of each uttered work using the normalized log energy and zero crossing rate as decision parameters. Based on this decision,. each word is assigned to one of two classes. In order to identify the uttered word within each class, a dynamic time warping algorithm is applied using formant frequencies as the basis for the distance measure. We exploit a pole-zero analysis to measure formant frequencies in each frame. We have observed that pole-zero analysis can provide more accurate estimation of formant frequencies than analysis based on poles only. Experimental recognition rates of 97.3% illustrating the performance of the recognition system was achieved.
This study reveals the perceptual role of stop release burst to Koreans' recognition of POA(place of articulation) and voicing in the English word-final stops. 10 Korean subjects participated in a perception experiment wherein the stimuli are prepared on the basis of the amount of acoustic information, which includes the release burst. The result shows that i) release burst plays an important role in the recognition of POA in the order of velar, alveolar, and bilabial stops, and ii) the release burst more enhances the correct recognition of voiceless stops than that of voiced stops. This result leads us to conclude that the role of stop release burst differs with respect to the POA and voicing of the stops, and it is possibly related to the different intensity of release in voicing and in each POA.
The advanced techniques for video processing and computer graphics enables a sign language education system to appear. the system is capable of showing a sign language motion for an arbitrary sentence using the captured video clips of sign language words. In this paper, a method is suggested which generates the frames between the last frame of a word and the first frame of its following word in order to animate hand motion. In our method, we find hand locations and angles which are required for in between frame generation, capture and store the hand images at those locations and angles. The inbetween frames generation is simply a task of finding a sequence of hand angles and locations. Our method is computationally simple and requires a relatively small amount of disk space. However, our experiments show that inbetween frames for the presentation at about 15fps (frame per second) are achieved so tat the smooth animation of hand motion is possible. Our method improves on previous works in which computation cost is relativey high or unnecessary images are generated.
Ellipsis is the figure of speech characterized by the deliberate omission of words that are obviously understood, but that must be supplied to make a construction grammatically or semantically complete. The purpose of this study is to examine how ellipsis affects its adjacent elements acoustically and phonologically in English VP-ellipsis, sluicing and gapping. In the experiment, the realizations by English native speakers are set as the criteria for the observing point and are compared to Korean speakers' realizations. For the results, while English native speakers utilized various acoustic information such as word duration and pitch range and phonological information such as pith accent realization in order to intend the cues for decoding the missing constituent, Korean English learners relied on only duration information and could not use various information effectively.
Recent research has documented that there is a close relationship between problem posing and problem solving in arithmetic. However, most studies investigated the relationship between problem posing and problem solving only by means of standard problem situations. In order to overcome that shortcoming, a pilot study with Chinese fourth-graders was done to investigate this relationship using a non-standard, realistic problem situation. The results revealed a significant positive relationship between students' problem posing and solving abilities. Based on that pilot study, a more extensive and systematic ascertaining study was carried out to confirm the observed relationship between problem posing and problem solving among Chinese elementary school children. Results confirmed that there was indeed a close relationship between both skills.
The purpose of this study was to identify the customer dissatisfaction types by demographic characteristics, and examine the effort of service recovery justice on the customers' satisfaction, in order to construct the efficient recovery system fer the restaurant service failure. Also, another purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of customer satisfaction on the word of mouth and the repurchase, and so devise the information measures for the positive relationship between the customers and the domestic restaurants. According to the results of this study, the customer evaluation on service recovery could be explained by the concept of justice. Also, this justice influenced the overall satisfaction on service recovery, and further the satisfaction on service recovery influenced the subsequent positive word of mouth or repurchase intention.
