  • This study aims to examine the design and construction methods of movable Pavilions. Through the literature analysis, the setting up of the construction background, location and direction, size and composition, materials and construction methods were analyzed. The results are as follows; First, the movable pavilion is designed to enjoy a wide range of views. It was a creation that reflected the way in which the ideal life was pursued based on the experience of enjoying scenery rather than owning one's own house and running a pavilion. Second, the formation of movable pavilion was intended to enjoy the scenery by season without restrictions on time and place. It can also relieve the hassle of having to move tools to enjoy the wind every time. Third, the movable pavilion faces to a place with good scenery and determines its position and direction. Most of them were built on a small scale and divided the space for viewing the scenery, playing GO(Baduk), writing poems, and playing musical instruments. Also, wood was used mainly. To reduce the load, roofs and walls were constructed with light materials such as bamboo, straw, thick sheet of oil, and cotton cloth. The construction method was mainly used by the method of fastening for easy coupling and dismantling. When a building was constructed on the upper part of a ship or cart, the wooden structure of a regular pavilion was constructed. Fourth, when comparing the design and construction characteristics of ordinary pavilion and movable pavilion, the movable pavilion is easy to see for contrast purposes, so there is no limit to setting the location and direction. Instead, more stringent systems and techniques were called for, because as mobility forces should be considered, structurally measures to withstand loads, and they should satisfy their function and form as pavilion.

  • Traditional complex joints have used to a wide variety of wooden furniture construction. Dowel joint is the most popular joint s. However design of this joint to meet specified service condition has been hampered by a lack of proven design formulas which can be use to predict their strength. The object of this study is to investigate the withdrawal strength and effect of dowel diameters in wood and wood based materials. The obtained results were as follows; 1. The relationship between withdrawal strength and dowel diameter is found to be linear. 2. Withdrawal strength of medium density fiberboard and Sepetir in end-to-side joints is superior to Antiaris, particleboard and plywood. 3. In end-to-end joints, withdrawal strength of medium density fiberboard is the most superior joint. but Sepetir. Antiaris and plywood have similarly strength and particleboard is inferiority. 4. Withdrawal strength in end-to-end joints of Antiaris and plywood is higher than in end-ta-side joints. But in end-to-end joints of Sepetir. medium density fiberboard and particleboard is similarity in end-to-side joints.

  • Aldo Van Eyck and Herman Hertzberger explained 'In-between space' as an intermediate space between opposite elements such as whole and parts, inside and outside, open and close, central and decentral. From this idea, the meaning of 'in-between space' has developed and applied to works of Bernard Tschumi and Sou Fujimoto. In this study, the meaning of 'in-between space' was compared and analyzed based on two architects' works to reveal the design approach in terms of 'in-between space' Final Wooden House, N House, and Serpentine Gallery Pavilion among Sou Fujimoto's work were selected and Le Fresnoy, Lerner Student Center, and Acropolis Museum among Bernard Tschumi's work were selected to analyze. To understand their design approach, their works were compared and analyzed in architectural attitude, tools, construction style and the approach, concept, theme, relation, direction of in-between space. As a result, Sou Fujimoto uses 'in-between space' as a nebulous approach as intermediate space between opposite elements. For Bernard Tschumi, 'in-between space' is also an intermediate space to emphasize and make a tension between opposite elements. It is a method of solving the contradiction condition between old city environment and new architecture.

  • The measurement in ruling period of King Sejong in Chosun Dynasty remained unchanged compared with that of Goyeo Dynasty. But Hwangjongchuck, the basis of measurement was amended in the 7th year in ruling period of King Sejong, Juchuck, Youngchochuck, Cholegichuck in the 12th, and Pobeckchuck in the 13th. The record of Pobeckchuck first appeared in the true record of Chosun Dynasty in the 4th year in ruling period of Sejong, and first record on the amendment of the Pobeckchuck was found in the 13th year in his ruling period. The presentation of the comparison of Pobeckchuck with Cholegichuck in volume 128 of true record of Sejong makes help the estimation of the length of Pobeckchuck. To calculate one Chuck of Pobeckchuck with this measurement comes to 44.75cm in present measurement, and the length at this time had remained unchanged to Yeonsangun period. Important fact which was newly found in the true record of Chosun Dynasty was that Pobeckchuck had been used for diverse purposes. Pobeckchuck was used to measure width, length and thickness in manufacturing wardrobe. and also to measure cloth decorating wardrobe. This is the first record(4th year of reign of Sejong) showing that Pobeckchuck was first used to measure cloth in Chosun Dynasty The record shows that Pobeckchuck was also used to measure the length of circumference of castle for its construction. to measure distances between people, the length of hook of wooden handle, and the height of man.

  • In Korea, there has been a traditional post and beam wood construction with large roof load. Because a large friction is generated in wooden joint or members, it is important to evaluate the friction between wood members according to wood direction. Because most of studies have been concerned with friction between wood and steel, excluding effect of real area of contact, there are a few studies on the friction between wood members. The object of this study was to evaluate friction or coefficient of friction according to normal force and real area of contact of wood. With Japanese larch (Larix kaempferi) test specimens, five steps of normal force and combinations of test were prepared. Results indicated that normal force had almost no affection on the friction, however there was difference about friction or coefficient of friction according to real contact conditions of wood grain and contact area.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the characteristics of extracellular cellulase and xylanase from Fusarium pallidoroseum and Aspergillus niger, such as enzyme activity and stability by various pH, temperature and metal ions, for application into enzymatic deinking system. The optimal temperature and pH for enzyme activity and stability of Fusarium pallidoroseum and Aspergillus niger were $50^{\circ}C$, pH 5.0 and $60^{\circ}C$, pH 9.0, respectively. Certain metal ions, calcium and cobalt, brought to elevate cellulase and xylanase activity from F. pallidoroseum and A. niger. With these results we suggest that enzymatic deinking system should be proceed at $50\~60^{\circ}C$ under their optimal pH condition.

  • In this paper, 18 single-sized pervious concrete mixtures were tested. The mixtures were prepared by altering: the amount and type of binder, type of aggregate, and the method of compaction. Concrete was compacted in layers in one of five different consolidation techniques: with standard tamping rod, wooden lath, concrete cylinder, or vibration of 12 and 40 s. Tests carried out on the specimens were: slump, density, porosity, coefficients of permeability, compressive strength and splitting strength. The relationships between porosity-density and porosity-strength were established. Two mixtures were selected for the preparation of test slabs on different subgrades and their permeability was tested according to ASTM C 1701-09 Standard. By comparing laboratory and field tests of permeability, it was concluded that the subgrade affects the test results. Measurements on the test slabs were repeated after 1 and 2 years of installation.

  • The number of newly constructed traditional Korean houses, i.e., Hanoks, and light-frame buildings is increasing. However, related research is limited owing to the lack of awareness regarding safety evaluations. Therefore, this study conducted an outdoor exposure test to accurately evaluate wooden constructions. Spruce, pine, and fir (SPF) material was monitored for a year, wherein the SPF material was artificially dried under 18% moisture content, and its physical properties and color differences were measured once a month. Large differences were observed in the material's weight and moisture content, which are indexes sensitive to daily range and rainfall; however, no significant difference was found for other basic properties in the pre and post test results. Herein, $L^*$, $a^*$, and $b^*$ values represent color differences; these values exhibited a general decrease after the test. Such differences were attributed to the loss of lignin in the wood. The color difference value was high between the months of May and July, when the daily range and rainfall significantly fluctuated. Multiple regression analysis was performed on the $a^*$ value (redness indicator), daily range, rainfall, and ultraviolet index. The results indicated that the daily range influenced redness the most. According to the estimated regression equation, the daily range and redness are positively correlated. Based on the results, the types and influence of independent variables on color difference are expected to change as the wood's duration of outdoor exposure and the amount of data obtained both increase.
