A Study on TV News Anchor Women's Red Clothing Image (TV뉴스 여성 앵커의 빨강색 의상 이미지에 관한 연구)

  • This study was motivated from the point that TV anchor women wore red clothing the most when they appeared at the broadcasting. For the analysis of clothing color, the main news programs of three local terrestial broadcasting systems were adopted, and the screen sources having been obtained for a year on the anchor women from January 2008 to December were classified by S/S, F/W. As the result, it was found out that the image was classified according to the inherent symbolic meaning of red color, and red color was frequently adopted for the happy-passionate image. It is judged that the reason is red color clothing spotlights passionate, challenging and imposing image which anchor women have. It revealed that while investigating the relationship of coloration between red upper clothing and other clothing, the inner-wear white color of the red jacket, or of the black inner-wear was matched the most, regardless of season. It is judged that this is because the coloration of red and white, and of red and black give not only brilliant but also clear image.

Korean Women's Shopping Behavior and Body Image in U.S.

  • The purpose at this study was to examine and understand shopping behaviors and body image among Korean females in U.S. Subjects for this research were 20 Korean housewives. They were interviewed for this study using an interview schedule. As a result, most at the subjects have enjoyed shopping in U.S. stores. They showed that they go shopping more often in U.S. than in Korea due to more time to shop. They considered refund policy and kind salespersons as th positive characteristics in U.S. stores, while they complained about size, quality, and style in even their favorite stores. Also, subjects tend to be dissatisfied with their bodies. Compared to how they feel in Korea, they especially feel lower body image and lower self-esteem in the U.S. Ninety percent of subjects considered their body affected their shopping behaviors. To compensate how they felt about their bodies, they responded that they limit or change clothing styles or colors when they shopped. Based on these results, socio-cultural body image regarding ideal beauty and shopping behavior would be discussed.

A Cross-cultural study of Body Image Perceptions between Korean and British University Students

  • This study explores the comparison of body image, body satisfaction, and clothing behaviors between Korean and British young women. Body image was measured by two methods: visual and verbal. For the data analysis, the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) Version 16.0 for Windows was used to provide descriptive statistics, an independent sample t-test, and paired sample t- tests were applied in this study. Our results show that Korean and British female college students perceived ideal-body images that were smaller than their self defined body images. The ideal and self-images were significantly different in both groups. Both groups were dissatisfied with their own body size. The study was limited to a small sample size. Future studies using more participants from a more diverse age group and ethnic groups are recommended. The study will help marketers and retailers develop new products and new markets aimed at Korean and British women related to body image and body satisfaction.

Body Image and Cosmetic Image Based on Women's Sex Role Identity (성인여성의 성역할 정체감에 따른 신체 및 화장이미지)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyse body and cosmetic image according to women's sex role identity. The subjects of this study were 433 women over 20 years old. Self-administered questionnaires were used for data collection. SPSS(Ver. 15.0) was used for mean, median, frequency, percentages, factor analysis, and one-way ANOVA. The results of this study were as followed; First, women were clustered into 4 groups according to their sex role identity. 36.5% was classified as an androgynous group, 32.4% was a undifferentiated group, 16.1% was a masculine group, and 15.0% was a feminine group. Second, factors of women's body image were interest in appearance, interest in weight, and charming of appearance. Factors of cosmetic image were natural & sociable, urban & intellect, passionate, romantic, prestige & sophisticate, fashionable & splender, active, feminine, and formal. Third, Androgynous group showed much interests in appearance and charming of appearance, but undifferentiated group had low interests. Androgynous group pursued natural & sociable, urban & intellect, passionate, romantic, prestige & sophisticate, fashionable & splendor, active, feminine, and formal images most when they applied make-ups. Masculine group pursued urban & intellect and active images much and femme group pursued natural & sociable, feminine, and formal images much. However undifferentiated group pursued all factors of cosmetic images less. Forth, androgynous group applied more kinds of cosmetics, but undifferentiated group applied less.

Tendency Analysis of Denim Styles Expressed through Women's Collection S/S 2011 (2011 S/S 여성복 컬렉션에 나타난 데님 스타일의 경향 분석)

  • This study was conducted based on a comparative analysis of design-specific features prevalent in the Women's Wear Collection S/S 2011. As the method of this study, the denim styles were classified by various fashion design factors consisting of silhouette, fit, color, and textile fabric, which were extracted from an image database. The properties of denim fabrics associated with each fashion image were investigated to inform fabric development and washing. The results of the study show that the dense and glossy surface of the denim fabric represent a modern trend, which can be achieved by blending lyocell, tencel and rayon or by using different textiles, such as lightweight plain weave and satin instead of twill. For casual look, various washing effects were utilized jean's casual feeling like freedom and activities, while in a modern image, washing effects was restricted. And a glossy textile offers a simple modern look. The Modern image represents a simple H-silhouette and wide or straight fit in bottoms as well. Brightness can be adjusted by washing-induced bleaching. High brightness gives an elegant image, while low brightness makes a casual image. The purpose of this study is to configure a database for the development of design in the growing women's casual wear market. In addition, This study, in which the elements for specific fashion image-making were analyzed, can be used as a reference for developing denim style and fabric.

A Study on the Motives of Women's Appearance-Management Behavior - Focusing on Plastic Surgery and Obesity Treatment - (여성의 외모관리 행동의 동기연구 - 성형수술·비만체형관리 사례를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of the study was to identify the motives of women's appearance-management behavior, and examine how women perceived the appearance -management behavior and pursuit of ideal body image. The depth interview method was managed to five female subjects who had experiences in plastic surgery and obesity treatment. The instance analysis used in this study. The results were as follows : There were four types of women's appearance-management behavior. First, women perceived themselves by using other people's evaluation, and it was the first motive of appearance-management behavior. It shows that appearance is not based on the real self-image but is the evaluated self-image by others. Second, women were willing to suffer the pain in the plastic surgery and obesity treatment by the expectation of appearance improvement. It means the result of reducing the difference between the actual self-figure and the ideal self-image. Third, the sexual discrimination culture had an influence on appearance-management behavior. It seems the sense of male superiority spreaded over the Korean society. Lastly, women improved self-satisfaction and self-esteem through their physical appearance as an alternative method for better life.

Analysis of the Image Sought by Consumers for Living Atmosphere and Clothing and Home Fashion Preference (수도권 여성의 거주환경 및 의복 추구이미지와 홈패션 디자인 선호도 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to conduct research on consumers who seek to portray an image through their living atmosphere and clothing, and to survey the home fashion design preference of Korean women, aged in their 20s to 40s. We distributed questionnaires to 600 women. The reliable questionnaires were used for a statistical analysis. Data analyses were conducted with SPSS program on ANOVA and Pearson correlations. We obtained the following results: 1. Women who are living in larger housing sought 'elegant', 'sophisticated', and 'gorgeous' images. There was a high correlation between the image sought through the surrounding environment and the image sought with clothing. Those who wanted an image of Korean traditional and classic living environment, also sought the same image in their clothing. 2. There was a significant difference in the preference of home fashion products among women seeking specific images in their living environment. In the preference of children's bed sheets and comforters, there was a significant difference in Korean traditional image. In addition, there was a significant difference in the preferred types of curtains in elegant, sophisticated, gorgeous and classic seeking images of environment. These results may be useful for the home fashion stylist or home fashion marketer.

The Preferred Fashion Style and Self-image that Korean Career Women's Seek According to Daily Situations (한국 직장여성의 일상 상황별 추구하는 자기이미지와 선호 패션스타일)

  • The objectives of this study are to identify the self-image and preferred fashion styles that Korean career women seek in different daily situations, and to propose a positioning map in accords with the findings. The study conducted a survey and in-depth interviews. The study used twenty items of self-image adjectives extracted from existing studies, and eighteen fashion style stimuli collected by examining women's wear brands. The study surveyed 329 career women. Their daily situation was classified into five situations; external meeting and presentation, ordinary work, wedding and family gathering, blind date or date, and meeting with friends and acquaintances. The analysis results of this study showed that self-image and fashion style preferences are relevant to daily situation. The image most sought in external meetings and presentation was the 'Elegant' image, and the image most sought in meetings with friends and acquaintances was the 'active' image. Women on dates or blind dates sought the 'feminine' image the most, however they preferred to avoid this image during external meetings and presentations. Among fashion styles, the 'elegant/classic' style was most preferred, and the 'sexy/avant-garde' style had the lowest preference among all the styles. 'Mannish' was preferred in ordinary work and meeting with friends and acquaintances, however, it was shown as having the lowest preference level in blind dates or dates. The 'romantic/natural' style was highly preferred in meeting with friends and acquaintances, however it had a low level of preference for external meetings and presentations. This study has significance in providing practical information to utilize in fashion industry by identifying the relationship between self-image and preferred fashion style sought by career women according to daily situation, and using the results to propose a positioning map.

Political image of women presidents and the phenomenon of fashion politics -A Study on Cristina Fernández de Kirchner- (여성 대통령의 정치 이미지와 패션 폴리틱스 현상 -Cristina Fernández de Kirchner 사례 연구-)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the role of political image and the phenomenon of fashion politics on the style of women presidents, with focus on the President of Argentina, Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner. The results of the study were as follows. First, the political image of President Cristina Fernandez is identified with the second image of Eva Peron and Kirchnerismo, in terms of political issues. Second, fashion style includes the power and sexy images of glamour style that emphasizes the body line of suits and dress form. Vivid colors and black fashion reflects the Kirchner government's charisma and identity. Fernandez's iconic Rolex watches, expensive jewelry, and luxury accessories such as brooches that replicate Eva Peron's brooch were instrumental in forming a second image of Eva Peron. Third, the phenomenon of fashion politics appeared to equate the phenomenon of recreating the image of Eva Peron with displays of power and wealth for the successor to Kirchnerismo.

An Analysis of the Relationships between Sense of Values and Clothing Image of Middle aged Women (중년여성의 가치관과 의복이미지의 관계 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationships between sense of values and clothing image of middle aged women. For this purpose, the subjects of 300 adult women from in their 40's to 50's, living in Daegu area were sampled out by convenient sampling method. The result of this analysis are as follows. 1)a factor analysis identified six different types of sense of value: materialistic, self-respect, relationship-conscious, sensation-conscious, practical, and people-conscious. 2)six different types of clothing image were identified: classy, bold, plain, feminine, casual, and peculiar. 3)the results of multiple regression analysis found that sense of values affected clothing image of middle aged women. This meant that significant relationships existed among these variables and there was a causal relationship between sense of values and clothing image.
