  • The tungsten oxide thin films were prepared on $s_i$ wafer by using an electron-beam evaporation technique. Thickness and structure of tungsten oxide film degraded in various electrolytes were analyzed by Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and scanning electron microscope. Thickness of $WO_3$ film was the most dissolved in 1M $H_2SO_4$ electrolytye. We have confirmed that the degradation of this films was accelerated by $H_2O$ in electrolytes. But the electronic structure of film degraded by electrolyte contained of glycerol was not changed as comparision with as-deposited film. The degradation may be attributed to a change of thickness and the surface morphology of the film.

  • Leiomyoma is a benign smooth muscle tumor that usually arise in the uterus, skin and gastrointestinal system. Only 2 percent are located in the head and neck. Leiomyomas of oral cavity are uncommon as only two cases have been reported in the Korean literature. The common location of oral cavity has been tongue, but other sites include buccal mucosa, lips, palate. mouth floor, and gingiva. Our patient was 30 years old female who complained of swelling and discomfort in the mouth floor. Microscopically this tumor showed bundles of intertwining spindle cells within fibrous connective tissue stroma. The nuclei were generally pale staining and blunt ended. Masson's trichrome stain was positive for muscle, and immunohistochemical study for ${\alpha}$-smooth muscle actin revealed strong positivity. It was treated by surgical excision. We experienced a case of leiomyoma of oral cavity, so we report with literature reviews

  • A new species named Aspergillus cumulatus sp. nov. is described in Aspergillus section Aspergillus (Eurotium state). The type strain (KACC $47316^T$) of this species was isolated from rice straw used in meju fermentations in Korea, and other strains were isolated from the air in a meju fermentation room. The species is characterized by growth at a wide range of water activities and the formation of aerial hyphae on malt extract 60% sucrose agar (ME60S) that resemble a cumulus cloud. Furthermore, A. cumulatus produces yellow ascomata containing small lenticular ascospores (5.1-5.7 ${\mu}m$) with a wide furrow, low equatorial crests, and tuberculate convex surface. The species is phylogenetically distinct from the other reported Aspergillus section Aspergillus species based on multilocus sequence typing using rDNA-ITS, ${\beta}$-tubulin, calmodulin, and RNA polymerase II genes.

  • The environments in the vicinity of the Dalseong mine has been much contaminated by heavy metals related to CuW ore deposit, which is of hydrothermal pipe type mineralized by quartz monzonite in the andesitic rocks. Chalcopyrite and wolframite are major ore minerals and sphalerite, galena and others are associated. To investigate the contamination of heavy metals in plants, samples of plants and soils were analysed by ICP for Fe, Mn, Cu, Pb, Zn, Ni, Co, Cd and Cr. Most of ore-related heavy metals are anomalously high in plants and soils, which were contaminated by the development of Taehan Tungsten Mining Company. The mine produced 48,704 tons (M/T) of 4 wt.% Cu and 1,620 tons (S/T) of 70 wt.% of $WO_3$ during active mining activity from 1961 to 1971 but was closed in 1975. Wild plants growing at the mine area may be used to remove heavy metals form soils, which cause contaminations of plants, stream waters and groundwaters in the vicinity of the mine.

  • We investigated the correlation between vanadium surface density and VOx structure species in the selective catalytic reduction of NOx by $NH_3$. The properties of the $VOx/TiO_2$ catalysts were investigated using physicochemical measurements, including BET, XRD, Raman spectroscopy, FE-TEM, UV-visible DRS, $NH_3-TPD$, $H_2-TPR$, $O_2-On/Off$. Catalysts were prepared using the wet impregnation method by supporting 1.0-3.0 wt% vanadium on $TiO_2$ thermally treated at various calcination temperatures. Through the above analysis, we found that VOx surface density was $3.4VOx/nm^2$, and the optimal V loading amounts were 2.0-2.5 wt% and the specific surface area was $65-80m^2/g$. In addition, it was confirmed that the optimal VOx surface density and formation of vanadium structure species correlated with the reaction activity depending on the V loading amounts and the specific surface area size.
