Interior design education has been developed rapidly since the discipline established in Korea in 1980s but unfortunately the development was without any progressive transition until 1990's. When Korean Institute of Interior Design/KIID inaugurated in 1992, interior design education and related research activities began to be intensified. Despite its effort, there were still confusion about the discipline as there were many similar discipline tracks (architecture, design, fine art, & home economic, etc.) each having an own definition of interior design and introducing different aspects of educating the subject. Education program for interior design still not sufficiently supporting the needs of today's rapidly changing industry nor to prepare the diverse needs of the client. In order for interior design major to be effective in the future and fulfill the needs of current industry development within our society, re-evaluation of our current interior design educational programs in Korea is important. This study will be the beginning of a research series. As the first part of the research series, this particular study has been focused on reviewing of current status of interior design majors in the nation and its current condition. While making suggestion for the changes in curriculum, the following points will have to be considered as basic principle. First, understanding the duality of technology and design to accommodate the contents of design discipline. Second, understanding the need of practice and theory combined for practical education. And lastly, considering ways to adopt the human experience in order to develop creativity in oneself. The focus of this research is only on the interior design discipline, and research method as the following; first, analyze current status by reviewing admission data for 2010. Second, process a survey regarding the interior design education and practice-related issues in admissions and collect opinions from educators and professional designers in the field. Thirdly, with reference to previous studies, suggestions will be made for the discipline to be effective in the field. As mentioned earlier, this study series will continue and develop to suggest improvement in interior design program as well as to provide curriculums for students get ready for the industry with more up-to-date knowledges and creativities.
In order to reduce the threat by illegal unmanned aerial vehicles, a tracking system based on sound was implemented. There are three main points to the drone acoustic tracking method. First, it scans the space through variable beam formation to find a sound source and records the sound using a microphone array. Second, it classifies it into a hidden Markov model (HMM) to find out whether the sound source exists or not, and finally, the sound source is In the case of a drone, a sound source recorded and stored as a tracking reference signal based on an adaptive beam pattern is used. The simulation was performed in both the ideal condition without background noise and interference sound and the non-ideal condition with background noise and interference sound, and evaluated the tracking performance of illegal drones. The drone tracking system designed the criteria for determining the presence or absence of a drone according to the improvement of the search distance performance according to the microphone array performance and the degree of sound pattern matching, and reflected in the design of the speech reading circuit.

This paper proposes an efficient method for verifying palmprint which is captured at the natural interface without any physical restriction. The location and orientation of the region of interest (ROI) in palm images are variously appeared due to the translation and rotation of hand. Therefore, it is necessary to extract the ROI stably for palmprint recognition. This paper presents a method that can extract the ROI, which is based on the reference points that are located at the center of the crotch segments between index finger and middle finger and between ring finger and little finger. It also proposes a palmprint recognition method using the histogram of local binary patterns (LBP). Experiments for evaluating the performance of the proposed method were performed on 1,597 palmprint images acquired from 100 different persons. The experimental results showed that ROI was correctly extracted at the rate of 99.5% and the equal error rate (EER) and the decidability index d' indicating the performance of palmprint verification were 0.136 and 3.539, respectively. These results demonstrate that the proposed method is robust to the variations of the translation and rotation of hand.
This study was carried out to investigate the relationship between tensed mandibular positions, muscle tenderness and EMG activity, respectively, and between range of motion of the neck and sternocleidomastoid muscle tenderness. Under stressful conditions, most of people take several types of behavioral patterns. Two of them observed frequently are clenching of teeth and grasping of fist. Prolonged clenching or grasping should increase electromyographic activity of associated muscle, especially muscles of mastication and neck muscles and will cause hyperfunction, dysfunction and muscle pain. So it is necessary to relate EMG activity with muscle pain. The author performed routine clinical examination in 47 patients with Temporomandibular Disorders, especially for presence or absence of muscle tenderness. Mandibular rest position was used as a baseline reference position and two more position in which EMG activity was taken were rest postion with grasping of fist and teeth clenching position. BioEMG of Biopak system (Bioresearch Inc, USA) was used for measuring of integrated EMG in masseter, anterior temporalis, anterior belly of digastic muscle and sternocleidomastoid muscle. To measure of the range of neck motion. CROM(Cervical-Range-of Motion, USA) was used. The obtained results were as follows : 1. EMG activity of all muscles except in masseter was higher in grasping of fist than those in rest position and there were significant correlation in EMG activity between the two position except in anterior belly of digastric muscle. 2. When comparing EMG activity between tender and non-tender muscle, all examined muscles did not show any significant difference. From this data, we could conclude that EMG activity was generally not changed with tenderness, of couse, it might be dependent with degree of muscle tenderness. 3. Number of tender points in examined muscles was also not significantly different between in patients with masticatory muscle disorders and in patients with internal derangement. 4. Cervical posture and range of motion of the neck was not differed significantly between in patients with and in patients without tenderness of sternocleidomastoid muscle.
PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to analyze the shapes of lingual polished surfaces in lower complete dentures formed by polished surface impressions and to provide reference data for use when manufacturing edentulous trays and lower complete dentures. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Twenty-six patients with mandibular edentulism were studied. After lower wax dentures were fabricated, wax was removed from the lingual side of the wax denture and a lingual polished surface impression was obtained with tissue conditioner. The definitive denture was scanned with a three-dimensional scanner, and scanned images were obtained. At the cross-sections of the lingual frenum, lateral incisors, first premolars, first molars, and anterior border of the retromolar pads, three points were marked and eight measurements were taken. The Kruskal-Wallis test and a post hoc analysis with the Mann-Whitney test were performed. RESULTS. Each patient showed similar values for the same areas on the left and right sides without a statistically significant difference. The height of the contour of the lingual polished surface at the lingual frenum was halfway between the occlusal plane and lingual border, it moved gradually in a downward direction. The angle from the occlusal plane to the height of the contour of the lingual polished surface was increased as it progressed from the lingual frenum towards the retromolar pads. CONCLUSION. The shape of the mandibular lingual polished surface was convex at the lingual frenum, lateral incisors and gradually flattened towards the first molars and retromolar pads.

In this study, a novel method referred as non-marker vision-based displacement measuring system(NVDMS) was introduced in order to measure the displacement of structure. There are two distinct differences between proposed NVDMS and existing vision-based displacement measuring system(VDMS). First, the NVDMS extracts the pixel coordinates of the structure using a feature point not a marker. Second, in the NVDMS, the scaling factor in order to convert the coordinates of a feature points from pixel value to physical value can be calculated by using the external conditions between the camera and the structure, which are distance, angle, and focal length, while the scaling factor for VDMS can be calculated by using the geometry of marker. The free vibration test using the three-stories scale model was conducted in order to analyze the reliability of the displacement data obtained from the NVDMS by comparing the reference data obtained from laser displacement sensor(LDS), and the measurement of dynamic characteristics was proceed using the displacement data. The NVDMS can accurately measure the dynamic displacement of the structure without the marker, and the high reliability of the dynamic characteristics obtained from the NVDMS are secured.

Background and objectives: Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection globally and is responsible for multiple clinical outcomes, including genital warts and cervical, anal, and oropharyngeal cancers. Despite the well established burden of HPV on both men and women, vaccine uptake among men is critically low in Korea. A preliminary step to combat this issue is to target parents of male adolescents. In the present study, we aimed to assess any change observed in parents' HPV knowledge and attitudes towards male HPV and subsequent willingness to vaccinate their sons following an HPV educational intervention. Methods: On November 14, 2020, a one-time HPV educational session was conducted and parents (n=136) completed self-administered pre-/post-test questionnaires that included previously validated survey items. Paired t-tests were used to evaluate change in HPV-related knowledge, attitudes and intent for HPV vaccination. Results: Following the intervention, participants reported increased scores in HPV and vaccine related knowledge by approximately 4 and 1.5 points, respectively (p<.001). Parents scored higher on perceived benefits of the vaccine, perceived social influence on vaccination decision and perceived severity of diseases caused by HPV infections, whereas lower scores were observed for perceived harm of the vaccine, and difficulties communicating with their sons about sex and HPV vaccination. Following the intervention, those without the intent to vaccinate their sons significantly decreased and those who intended to vaccinate their sons though not in the next six months significantly increased (χ2=33.045, p<.001) Conclusion: Our educational intervention resulted in an increase in HPV-related knowledge with a positive impact on parents' attitudes toward male HPV vaccination. We expect that this study can serve as a pivotal reference to promote the unexplored issue of HPV vaccination among male adolescents in Korea.

Objective: This study aimed to assess the effects of commonly consumed hot drinks on the force decay of orthodontic elastomeric chains. Methods: This in vitro experimental study evaluated 375 pieces of elastomeric chains with six rings placed on a jig. Four rings were stretched by 23.5 mm corresponding to the approximate distance between the canine and the second premolar. Fifteen pieces served as reference samples at time zero, and 360 pieces were randomized into four groups: control, hot water, hot tea, and hot coffee. Each group was further divided into six subgroups (n = 15) according to the different exposure periods. The specimens in the experimental groups were exposed to the respective solutions at 65.5℃ four times per day for 90 seconds at 5-second intervals. The control group was exposed to artificial saliva at 37℃. The force decay of the samples was measured at 1, 2, 7, 14, 21, and 28 days using a universal testing machine. Data were analyzed using repeated-measures analysis of variance. Results: Maximum force decay occurred on day 1 in all groups. The minimum force was recorded in the control group, followed by the tea, coffee, and hot water groups on day 1. At the other time points, the minimum force was observed in the tea group, followed by the control, coffee, and hot water groups. Conclusions: Patients can consume hot drinks without concern about any adverse effect on force decay of the orthodontic elastomeric chains.

The Shack-Hartmann wavefront sensor is composed of a lenslet array generating the spot images from which local slope is calculated and overall wavefront is measured. Generally the principle of wavefront reconstruction is that the spot centroid of each lenslet array is calculated from pixel intensity values in its subaperture, and then overall wavefront is reconstructed by the local slope of the wavefront obtained by deviations from reference positions. Hence the spot image of each lenslet array has to remain in its subaperture for exact measurement of the wavefront. However the spot of each lenslet array deviates from its subaperture area when a wavefront with large local slopes enters the Shack-Hartmann sensor. In this research, we propose a spot image searching method that finds the area of each measured spot image flexibly and determines the centroid of each spot in its area Also the algorithms that match these centroids to their reference points unequivocally, even if some of them are situated off the allocated subaperture, are proposed. Finally we verify the proposed algorithm with the test of a defocus measurement through experimental setup for the Shack-Hartmann wavefront sensor. It has been shown that the proposed algorithm can expand the dynamic range without additional devices.

The free-stereo mosaics image without GPS/INS and ground control data can be generated by using relative orientation parameters on the 3D model coordinate system. Its origin is located in one reference frame image. A 3D coordinate calculated by conjugate points on the free-stereo mosaic images is represented on the 3D model coordinate system. For determining 3D coordinate on the 3D absolute coordinate system utilizing conjugate points on the free-stereo mosaic images, transformation methodology is required for transforming 3D model coordinate into 3D absolute coordinate. Generally, the 3D similarity transformation is used for transforming each other 3D coordinates. Error of 3D model coordinates used in the free-stereo mosaic images is non-linearly increased according to distance from 3D model coordinate and origin point. For this reason, 3D model coordinates used in the free-stereo mosaic images are difficult to transform into 3D absolute coordinates by using linear transformation. Therefore, methodology for transforming nonlinear 3D model coordinate into 3D absolute coordinate is needed. Also methodology for resampling the free-stereo mosaic image to the geo-stereo mosaic image is needed for overlapping digital map on absolute coordinate and stereo mosaic images. In this paper, we propose a 3D non-linear transformation for converting 3D model coordinate in the free-stereo mosaic image to 3D absolute coordinate, and a 2D non-linear transformation based on 3D non-linear transformation converting the free-stereo mosaic image to the geo-stereo mosaic image.
