The great variety of commercial brands of orthodontic wires available on the market, stimulated by the so called superior wires (nickel titanium with shape memory effect and superelastic nickel titanium), makes the professional choice for a suitable and less expensive material difficult. The in vitro study of the mechanical properties of the orthodontic wires acts as an auxiliary tool for the professional. In this paper, a comparative study of mechanical properties was made, using stress strain tests for 4 types of orthodontic wires (conventional stainless steel, multistranded steel, superelastic nickel titanium and thermoactivated nickel titanium) separated into 5 groups. A series of 6 tests were tested for each group of wires. Initially, each group was tested 3 times until the wires broke. Furthermore, 3 more tests for each group were performed, stretching the wires under standardized activation loads, for a reliable comparison of their mechanical properties, during loading and unloading. 1 tests were applied to check differences among the groups. In vitro, the results suggest that regarding the mechanical properties supposedly desirable for physiological teeth movement, such as resilience, elasticity modulus, strength liberated during unloading, and the way that strength is liberated, thermoactivated nickel titanium wires, acting under mouth temperature, seems to be a good choice, fellowed by superelastic nickel titanium, multistranded stainless steel, and conventional stainless sleet. Superelasticity was demonstrated for superelastic nickel titanium wires. When at $37^{\circ}C$, thermoactivated nickel titanium wires showed shape memory effect, showing that temperature is important for enhancing the mechanical properties.
Objective: We evaluated the detachment force, amount of deformation, fracture mode, and pull-out force of 3 different wires used for bonded lingual retainer fabrication. Methods: We tested 0.0215-inch five-stranded wire (PentaOne, Masel; group I), $0.016{\times}0.022$-inch dead-soft eight-braided wire (Bond-A-Braid, Reliance; group II), and 0.0195-inch dead-soft coaxial wire (Respond, Ormco; group III). To test detachment force, deformation, and fracture mode, we embedded 94 lower incisor teeth in acrylic blocks in pairs. Retainer wires were bonded to the teeth and vertically directed force was applied to the wire. To test pull-out force, wires were embedded in composite that was placed in a hole at the center of an acrylic block. Tensile force was applied along the long axis of the wire. Results: Detachment force and mode of fracture were not different between groups. Deformation was significantly higher in groups II and III than in group I (p < 0.001). Mean pull-out force was significantly higher for group I compared to groups II and III (p < 0.001). Conclusions: Detachment force and fracture mode were similar for all wires, but greater deformations were seen in dead-soft wires. Wire pull-out force was significantly higher for five-stranded coaxial wire than for the other wires tested. Five-stranded coaxial wires are suggested for use in bonded lingual retainers.

There is the possibility that internal tin processed Nb$_3Sn$ wires are locally heated during the drawing process and the jacketing process. It is important to know the variations in J$_c$ of internal tin processed Nb$_3Sn$ wires caused by local heating. Internal tin processed Nb$_3Sn$ rods were cold worked to 2.28 mm, using the appropriate reduction ratio, and then cut into several pieces. At this stage, wires were locally 50 mm heat zone heated up to 360$^{\circ}C$. The locally heated Nb$_3Sn$ wires were drawn to a final diameter size of 0.81 mm. Others were cold worked successively to 0.81 mm and locally heated with the same conditions. 2 types of locally heat treated wires were wound on Ti-6Al-4V barrels and heat treated for the Nb$_3Sn$ reaction. Local heating of internal tin processed Nb$_3Sn$ wires after the J$_c$ of these wires. However, local heating at an intermediate stage of the drawing process caused a decrease in J$_c$. When the local heating temperatures were higher than melting point of Sn, non-Cu J$_c$'s decreased significantly. A Sn-Cu alloyed boundary appeared after local heating over the melting point of Sn, and caused work hardening and a decrease in the workability.
Recently, Dangers due to harmonics emanated from all sorts of machinery have been on the increase with the development in industry. One of them is that Zero Sequence harmonic currents flow from the neutral wires in 3 phases - 4 wire systems. The flowing of harmonic currents in neutral wires brings about the superheating and falloff in output of transformer, the overheating of them, a rise in ground potential and the wrong movement of machinery, so has a bad influence on this system. To develop the machinery to decrease neutral wires Zero sequence harmonic currents and apply it help solve these problems and bring about the effects of a improvement in power factor and energy savings.
Some shape memory alloys like NiTi show noticeable high damping property in pseudoelastic range. Due to its instinct characteristics, a NiTi alloy is commonly used for passive damping applications, in which the energy may be dissipated by the conversion from mechanical to thermal energy. Previous researches found the NiTi wires own higher damping property than the bars; therefore the wire form is adopted in this study. A loss factor is introduced for measuring the damping property of the NiTi wires. The experimental observation shows the mechanical behaviors of NiTi wires are dependent on temperature, strain rate and strain amplitude. Moreover, it is found the first several decades of loading-unloading cycles can obviously influence the property of NiTi wires under the same working conditions.

The flow characteristic in the wake around a circular cylinder with tripping wires, which was set in constant distance, was experimentally investigated in the uniform flow, Re=2.92$\times10^4$. The measurement of velocity vector and pressure distribution are carried out various angles of tripping wires in the range of $50^(\circ)$ to $80^(\circ)$ with $10^(\circ)$ interval. The results show that velocity profiles and pressure distributions are different with angles of tripping wires. The drag of the circular cylinder was decreased about 60% maximum when tripping wires' angle was $50^(\circ)$. The lowest reduction of the velocity and wake width was occurred by coanda effect when the angle was $60^(\circ)$, and the vortex shedding periodicity become rare at the same time.

It is proposed that the electromechanical relation of the conductive materials with high electrical resistance may be used to estimate the current stress of prestressing tendons. To choose the best conductive material to this end, we studied the electromechanical relations of carbon fibers and metalic heat wires experimentally. It is found that the relation of carbon fibers can be modelled by a parabolic(or hyperbolic) function in the early stage of deformation. However because the relation is not consistent when it is unloaded and reload, carbon fibers are not suitable for this purpose. Metallic heat wires show a consistent linear relation during loading and unloading in the elastic deformation and are suitable for this purpose. To estimate the electromechanics relation of metallic wires, we developed a simple formula based on the rigid plasticity. We propose a new kind of prestressing tendons whose stress can be monitored.
This study is carried out using a circuit model approach. First, the self and shunt impedances of all the conductors in the rail system and the mutual impedances between different conductors are computed. Then, a circuit representing the both rail systems at interfaces including the rails, feeders, protection wires, contact wires, ground wires is built. Auto-transformers in the system are also represented in the circuit model. The circuit model is then 1]recessed using a circuit solver based on a double-elimination method. Several different scenarios are analyzed, including the load conditions and a few fault conditions with different fault locations. The effect of the buried ground wires is also analyzed by comparing the results with and without the presence of the ground wires. The analysis procedure presented in the paper demonstrated an accurate way of computing fault current distribution and EMC at interfaces between both systems. The results presented in the paper can be used as a reference for estimating interference levels in similar rail systems.
The residual stress in axial direction of the steel wires has been measured by using a method based on the combination of the focused ion beam(FIB) milling and digital image correlation(DIC) program. The residual stress is calculated from the measured displacement field before and after the introduction of a slot along the steel wires. The displacement is obtained by the digital correlation analysis of high-resolution scanning electron micrographs, while the slot is introduced by FIB milling with low energy beam. The experimental procedures are described and the feasibilities are demonstrated in steel wires fabricated with different conditions. It reveals that the tensile residual stress is formed in all steel wires and this is strongly influenced by the fabrication conditions.
