  • In signal system such as MAGLEV, the transmission channel that has wireless transmission line between on-board and ground-site is susceptible to have interference and may introduce data error on transmission. In this paper, by applying inductive wireless and FSK(frequency shift keying) modulation using widely in railway signal system, we intend to analyze the data transmission characteristics. In this case, noise may have effect on transmission channel. Therefore transmission channel should be lessened the data error from random noise. Considering the transmission medium, the objective of this study is to analyze the transmission characteristics between on-board and ground-site and to obtain transmission performance.

Energy-Efficiency and Transmission Strategy Selection in Cooperative Wireless Sensor Networks

  • Energy efficiency is one of the most critical concerns for wireless sensor networks. By allowing sensor nodes in close proximity to cooperate in transmission to form a virtual multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO) system, recent progress in wireless MIMO communications can be exploited to boost the system throughput, or equivalently reduce the energy consumption for the same throughput and BER target. However, these cooperative transmission strategies may incur additional energy cost and system overhead. In this paper, assuming that data collectors are equipped with antenna arrays and superior processing capability, energy efficiency of relevant traditional and cooperative transmission strategies: Single-input-multiple-output(SIMO), space-time block coding(STBC), and spatial multiplexing(SM) are studied. Analysis in the wideband regime reveals that, while receive diversity introduces significant improvement in both energy efficiency and spectral efficiency, further improvement due to the transmit diversity of STBC is limited, as opposed to the superiority of the SM scheme especially for non-trivial spectral efficiency. These observations are further confirmed in our analysis of more realistic systems with limited bandwidth, finite constellation sizes, and a target error rate. Based on this analysis, general guidelines are presented for optimal transmission strategy selection in system level and link level, aiming at minimum energy consumption while meeting different requirements. The proposed selection rules, especially those based on system-level metrics, are easy to implement for sensor applications. The framework provided here may also be readily extended to other scenarios or applications.

Throughput-Delay Analysis of One-to-ManyWireless Multi-Hop Flows based on Random Linear Network

  • This paper addresses the issue of throughput-delay of one-to-many wireless multi-hop flows based on random linear network coding (RLNC). Existing research results have been focusing on the single-hop model which is not suitable for wireless multi-hop networks. In addition, the conditions of related system model are too idealistic. To address these limitations, we herein investigate the performance of a wireless multi-hop network, focusing on the one-to-many flows. Firstly, a system model with multi-hop delay was constructed; secondly, the transmission schemes of system model were gradually improved in terms of practical conditions such as limited queue length and asynchronous forwarding way; thirdly, the mean delay and the mean throughput were quantified in terms of coding window size K and number of destination nodes N for the wireless multi-hop transmission. Our findings show a clear relationship between the multi-hop transmission performance and the network coding parameters. This study results will contribute significantly to the evaluation and the optimization of network coding method.

Performance of a DS/CDMA Packet Network in an Indoor Wireless Infrared Channel

  • In this paper, performance of a CDMA-based packet transmission system is analyzed and simulated in a wireless infrared channel. The indoor wireless infrared channel is modeled as a non-directed diffuse link. The pulse position modulation (PPM) is used as a modulation scheme. From the simulation results, it is shown that the RS coding is very effective in improving the packet-delay characteristics of the CDMA-based packet transmission system. The performance improvement is more significant especially when the infrared channel is in a worse condition.

지속적인 심장질환 모니터링을 위한 인체 삽입형 생체 센서의 무선전력전송 시스템 (Development and Application of Wireless Power Transmission Systems for Wireless ECG Sensors)

  • 전자기 유도형 무선전력전송에서는 송신 코일과 수신 코일의 상대적 위치에 따른 자기장 분포와 동력 전달 효율이 매우 중요하다. 본 연구는 ECG 센서를 사용한 HFSS 시뮬레이션 결과를 실제 측정 결과와 비교하였다. 시뮬레이션 결과 송신 코일과 수신 코일 간의 정렬이 어느 정도 변경 되더라도 전송효율은 비교적 안정적으로 유지 될 수 있음이 나타났다. 수신 코일의 중심이 송신 코일의 중심과 완벽하게 일치하면 전송효율이 최대가 되며, 수신 코일의 중심이 송신 코일의 중심으로부터 ± 10mm 내의 이동은 전송효율의 감소가 크지 않음을 확인 하였으며, 무선 전력 전송 시스템의 성능이 크게 저하되지 않는 것으로 확인 되었다. 본 결과는 이식형 센서를 위한 무선 전력의 활용에서 무선 전송의 표준화 된 적용 방법을 제안한다. 이를 통해 이식형 임플란트의 개발에 있어 무선전력전송에 대한 기준을 제시하고, 관련 디바이스의 개발에 적용 할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

초전도 코일을 적용한 WPT 특성 (Characteristics of Wireless Power Transmission applying the superconducting coil)

  • Interest in Wireless Power Transmission (WPT) technology has been increasing worldwide recently. This trend is proved by commercialized products such as electric toothbrush, wireless razor, and wireless charger for mobile phone battery. Studies for enhancing the applicability of the technology have been continuously conducted. Currently the WPT technology is based on the technologies using microwave, inductively coupling, and magnetic resonance. In the meantime, development of the microwave-based WPT faces difficulty due to health hazards involved in the technology, and application of the WPT technology using inductively coupling is restricted by area due to the problem of transmission length. In comparison, the WPT technology using magnetic resonance draws attention in terms of efficiency and transmission length. In this study, the sending coil based on the WPT technology using magnetic resonance system was replaced with an HTS coil to enhance transmission efficiency. Since the HTS coil has a zero resistance, power transmission loss can be minimized. At the same time, size of the current density could be increased to 100 times or more than typical coils. In addition, through impedance matching of LC device, maximal resonance properties were induced and consequently, frequency selection quality characteristics or Q was enhanced. As a result, the WPT type using the HTS coil showed a longer transmission length and better transmission efficiency compared with the WPT type using typical coils.

  • 개인 휴대용 의료단말기는 적은 정보량의 전송과 전력을 적게 소모함으로써 장기간 사용할 수 있는 무선 전송 시스템을 필요로 한다. 현재의 의료 단말기용 무선 전송 시스템은 Bluetooth를 이용하고 있지만 이는 장기간 휴대용 의료 단말기에 사용하기에는 전력 소모가 커서 사용에 지장이 있다 이에 Bluetooth보다는 전송 속도는 느리지만 전력 소모가 더욱 적은 Zigbee 프로토콜을 이용한 모듈을 설계하여 장기간 사용할 수 있는 의료 단말기용 무선 전송 시스템을 설계하였다.

5.8-GHz무선전력수신기를 이용한 스마트폰 RF 무선충전 (Smart Phone RF Wireless Charging with 5.8-GHz Microwave Wireless Power Receiver)

  • In this paper, we studied smart phone RF wireless charging with 5.8-GHz microwave wireless power receiver. The dc output of the receiver connected to super capacitor and DC-DC converter for charging a smart phone. This configuration stably supplies 5V and current for charging it. Studies show that the more receivers are used at close range, the higher the received voltage values and the larger the capacity of the super capacitor, the longer the charging time. The present 5.8-GHz 1W wireless power transmission system is not enough for charging a smartphone mainly due to the lack of current of the receiver.

국도교통관리의 무선통신 시스템 적용 및 평가 (Application & evaluation of the data through wireless communication in NHTMS)

  • 본 연구는 국도교통관리시스템에 무선통신시스템 적용시 기존 유선통신망을 통한 데이터 수집과 비교하여 데이터의 신뢰성 평가를 수행하였다 평가를 위한 시스템 환경구성은 수도권 남부 국도 38호선 평택-안중 구간(약 19km)에 기 설치된 영상검지기에 무선통신 장비를 추가하여 기존의 유선통신과 데이터 전송 품질을 비교할 수 있도록 구성하였다. 유/무선 데이터의 신뢰성 평가에 앞서 무선통신 모듈에 대한 기본적인 하드웨어 성능을 검증하고, 38호선 무선통신장비 설치구간에서 무선통신 장비간 교통데이터 전송시험을 하였다. 그리고 현장 무선통신장비와 센터의 무선통신 수집서버간의 교통데이터 전송시험을 하였다. 유/무선 데이터의 신뢰성평가는 73일간 유/무선 데이터 수집하여 무선통신데이터의 신뢰성을 평가하였다.

Performance Analysis of Multi-Gigabit Wireless Transmission at THz WLAN-Type Applications

  • Optimal position of access point (AP) is important for multi-gigabit wireless transmission in terahertz (THz) wireless local area network (WLAN)-type applications, where there exist the THz characteristic multiple clusters in channel propagation. By considering the multiple clusters in THz indoor communications, this paper investigates the optimal AP position when two APs are issued for increasing the system capacity. Numerical results reveal that the central position of each AP within each half service region, which offers the shortest cumulated path length for line-of-sight paths, is optimal to achieve the maximal system capacity.
