Ubiquitous-Based Mobile Control and Monitoring of CNC Machines for Development of u-Machine

  • This study was an attempt to control and monitor Computerized Numerical Controller (CNC) machines anywhere and anytime for the development of a ubiquitous machine (u-machine). With a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) phone, the machine status and machining data of CNC machines can be monitored in wired and wireless environments, including the environments of IMT2000 and Wireless LAN. Moreover, CNC machines can be controlled anywhere and anytime. The concept of the anywhere-anytime controlling and monitoring of a manufacturing system was implemented in this study for the purpose of u-manufacturing and u-machines. In this concept, the communication between the CNC controller and the PDA phone was successfully performed anywhere and anytime for the real-time monitoring and control of CNC machines. In addition, the interface between the CNC controller and the developed application module was implemented by Object linking and embedding for Process Control (OPC) and shared CNC memory. For communication, the design of a server contents module within the target CNC was based on a TCP/IP. Furthermore, the client contents module within the PDA phone was designed with the aid of embedded c++ programming for mobile communication. For the interface, the monitoring data, such as the machine status, the machine running state, the name of the Numerical Control (NC) program, the alarm and the position of the stage axes, were acquired in real time from real machines with the aid of the OPC method and by sharing the CNC memory. The control data, such as the start, hold, emergency stop, reserved start and reserved stop, were also applied to the CNC domain of the real machine. CNC machines can therefore be controlled and monitored in real time, anywhere and anytime. Moreover, prompt notification from CNC machines to mobile phones, including cellular phones and PDA phones, can be automatically realized in emergencies.

  • DSRC(Dedicated Short Range Communication)은 도로변의 RSE(Road Side Equipment)와 고속으로 이동하는 차량의 단말인 OBE(On-Board Equipment)간의 통신을 위한 단거리 전용 무선 통신 표준이다. 본 논문에서는 국내의 TTA(Telecommunication Technology Association) 표준에 호환되는 DSRC 규격에 따라 5.8GHz DSRC 모뎀을 구현하고, 이를 제어하고 연산처리를 수행할 수 있도록 ARM9 CPU를 임베딩 시킨 SoC(System on a Chip)에 대한 구현과정 및 제작한 SoC를 장착시킨 OBE 단말의 테스트결과에 대해 제시하였다. 본 논문에서 구현한 SoC는 0.11 um 공정을 적용하였으며 480 핀 EPBGA 패키지로 설계되었다. 제작 SoC ($Jaguar^{TM}$)에는 5.8GHz용 DSRC PHY(Physical Layer) 모뎀과 MAC 블록을 설계하여 장착하였으며, ARM926EJ-S 코어를 CPU로 사용하였고, LCD 콘트롤러, 스마트카드 콘트롤러, 이더넷 MAC 코어, 메모리 콘트롤러 등을 주요 기능으로 포함시켰다.

OWC based Smart TV Remote Controller Design Using Flashlight

  • The technology convergence of television, communication, and computing devices enables the rich social and entertaining experience through Smart TV in personal living space. The powerful smart TV computing platform allows to provide various user interaction interfaces like IR remote control, web based control, body gesture based control, etc. The presently used smart TV interaction user control methods are not efficient and user-friendly to access different type of media content and services and strongly required advanced way to control and access to the smart TV with easy user interface. This paper propose the optical wireless communication (OWC) based remote controller design for Smart TV using smart device Flashlights. In this approach, the user smart device act as a remote controller with touch based interactive smart device application and transfer the user control interface data to smart TV trough Flashlight using visible light communication method. The smart TV built-in camera follows the optical camera communication (OCC) principle to decode data and control smart TV user access functions according. This proposed method is not harmful as radio frequency (RF) radiation does it on human health and very simple to use as well user does need to any gesture moves to control the smart TV.

  • 무선통신에서의 전송 매체인 air interface는 주위의 여러 환경적인 요인에 의해서 다양한 에러가 존재할 수 있다. 이러한 조건에서는 채널에 대한 신뢰도가 유선일 때보다 크게 떨어지며 더욱이 ad hoc 환경인 IEEE 802.15.3 High-rate WPAN에서는 이러한 에러에 대한 의존도가 더욱 클 수 있다. 이미 WLAN에서 이와 관련된 연구가 있었으며 그 중 하나가 각 무선 노드들의 큐 상태에 따라서 큐의 크기가 크다면 채널 상태가 나쁘다고 판단하고 그 무선 노드에게 할당할 리소스를 줄이는 방법이나. 이는 중앙의 controller가 항상 각 노드들을 모니터링하고 있어야 하는 단점이 있다. 그래서 이러한 단점을 보완하고자 본 논문에서는 무선 이동노드의 위치에 의해 달라지는 링크의 에러 상태에 따라 controller가 노드들에게 할당하는 채널 시간의 크기를 동적으로 변화시켜서 piconet 전체의 throughput을 향상시킬 수 있는 MAC을 제안한다.

스마트 그리드를 위한 무선 기반의 수요 반응 기능을 가지는 조명 제어용 장치 개발 및 실험적 평가 (Development and Experimental Evaluation of the Wireless Illumination Controller with Demand Response for the Smart Grid)

  • Recently, a lot of research for the smart grid technology have been carried out to achieve energy efficiency for the electronic products. In order to practically apply this study, smart instruments which are capable of the AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) and DR (Demand Response) function are necessary. However, it is difficult to apply the function of the smart grid to the electronic product that cannot support the smart grid. Accordingly, the efficient use of electric energy is impossible. In order to solve this problem, the electronic product has to be changed into the exclusive electronic product supporting smart grid technology or the smart controller has to be attached the outside of the device. In this study, we developed the smart controller for connecting the electric appliances to the smart grid system. It can be attached to the illumination and the smart grid-based lamp control system at home. We additionally designed the message frame and the protocol to operate the smart controller with the AMI based EMS (Energy Management Server). We developed an experimental system to practically verify functions of the smart controller which is attached to the lighting device. From the system, we showed that the electric source of the illumination can be controlled according to the load change and saved energy effectively. We also confirmed the structural benefit and the energy-efficient effect through the verification of the smart controller.

Design and Implementation of the RF Systems for Bi-directional Wireless Capsule Endoscopes

  • This paper explains that the RF systems for hi-directional wireless capsule endoscopes were designed and implemented. The designed RF systems for a capsule endoscope can transmit the images of intestines from the inside to the outside of a body and the behavior of the capsules can be controlled by an external controller simultaneously. The hi-directional wireless capsule endoscope consists of a CMOS image sensor, FPGA, LED, battery, DC to DC Converter, transmitter, receiver, and antennas. The transmitter and receiver which were used in the hi-directional capsule endoscope, were designed and fabricated with $10mm(diameter){\times}3.2mm(thickness)$ dimensions taking into the MPE, power consumption, system size, signal to noise ratio and modulation method. The RF systems designed and implemented for the hi-directional wireless capsule endoscopes system were verified by in-vivo experiments. As a result, the RF systems for the hi-directional wireless capsule endoscopes satisfied the design specifications.

  • 무선 인터넷의 급속한 성장에 따라 사용영역과 그 범위가 점차 확대되고 있으며, 사용자들은 멀티미디어 $.$ 동화상 등 점차 많은 대역폭을 요구하는 서비스를 원하고 있다. 현재 사용 중인 이동통신 단말기로 다양한 멀티미디어 서비스를 지원하기에는 한계가 있다. 다양한 컨텐츠를 지원할 수 있는 유선 인터넷 서비스와 유사한 IEEE 802.11 무선 LAM (Local Area Network)에 핸드오프까지 고려하여 설계한 광대역 무선 접속 (Broadband Wireless Access) 시스템인 IEEE 802.16 무선 MAN (Metropolitan Area Network)시스템이 제안되었다. 특히 IEEE 802.16의 TG (Task Group)e 에서는 BS (Base Station) 혹은 섹터(sector) 단위의 상위 계층 핸드오프의 지원과 MAC에서의 핸드오프를 지원하는 것에 대한 논의가 진행중이지만, 세부적인 방안은 나오지 않고 있다. 본 논문은 이동 통신 망인 cdma2000 Ix EV-DO (Evolution Data only) 네트워크를 이용하여 IEEE 802.16e에서 BS간의 소프트 핸드오프를 지원하기 위한 네트워크 모델을 제안한다. 이 모델에서는 MC(Mobility Controller)에 각 BS의 MA를 관리하는 기능을 추가하여 소프트 핸드오프를 지원하고자 한다. 제안하는 네트워크 모델은 기존의 시스템을 그대로 활용할 수 있고, 다양한 무선 인터넷 멀티미디어 서비스를 이용할 수 있다.

Practical Study about Obstacle Detecting and Collision Avoidance Algorithm for Unmanned Vehicle

  • In this research, we will devise an obstacle avoidance algorithm for a previously unmanned vehicle. Whole systems consist mainly of the vehicle system and the control system. The two systems are separated; this system can communicate with the vehicle system and the control system through wireless RF (Radio Frequency) modules. These modules use wireless communication. And the vehicle system is operated on PIC Micro Controller. Obstacle avoidance method for unmanned vehicle is based on the Virtual Force Field (VFF) method. An obstacle exerts repulsive forces and the lane center point applies an attractive force to the unmanned vehicle. A resultant force vector, comprising of the sum of a target directed attractive force and repulsive forces from an obstacle, is calculated for a given unmanned vehicle position. With resultant force acting on the unmanned vehicle, the vehicle's new driving direction is calculated, the vehicle makes steering adjustments, and this algorithm is repeated.

  • A tole-robot system for remote home-management has been developed. The tele-robot system is composed of a mobile robot system, server-computers and client-computers. The robot system is equipped with wireless camera and wireless controller so that the robot system captures the image remotely User makes the robot control command referring to the image feedback through internet. With such tole-robot system, the user can monitor and watch the inside of home by remotely maneuvering the mobile robot. The user can also save the received image of suspected scene on the client computer. Utilizing such function of tele-robot system, remote home-management and possible crime avoidance could be achieved.

  • In the magnetically coupled wireless power transmit (WPT), the study of the multi-dimensional transmission coil to solve the low power transmission efficiency from the location of transmit coil and receiving coil is being developed. This paper, an important step in this study, presents the magnetically coupled model of the WPT system consist of the two-dimensional transmit coil and verifies by the simulation and experiment. The induced model in this paper can be used to design the WPT circuit and controller for the maximum transmission efficiency.
