  • Data association plays an important role in intelligent systems. This paper presents the Bayesian formulation of data association and its applications to intelligent systems. We first describe the Bayesian formulation of data association developed for solving multi-target tracking problems in a cluttered environment. Then we review applications of data association in intelligent systems, including surveillance using wireless sensor networks, identity management for air traffic control, camera network localization, and multi-sensor fusion.

  • This paper proposes a novel beehive-shaped reflector for application to light-emitting diode (LED) transceivers for illumination and bi-directional visible light communication (VLC). By using a diffuse propagation model extended to line-of-sight and direct signals, the distribution of illuminance and the path loss of the transceiver are investigated to evaluate the performance of the beehive-shaped reflector. To verify bi-directional communication, a VLC-based image capture system, comprising a complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) image sensor and video processor unit, is demonstrated. Real-time images captured by the CMOS camera are successfully transmitted to the monitoring system via a free-space channel at a rate of 115.2 kbps.

  • A coaxial rotor flying robot is developed for surveying and reconnoitering various circumstances under calamity environment. The robot has two contrarotating rotors on a common axis, an embedded microcontroller, an IMU(Inertial Measurement Unit), an IR sensor for height control, a micro camera for surveillance, ultrasonic position sensors and wireless communication devices. A bell-bar mounted on the top of the upper rotor hub increases stability and improves flight performance. In this paper, we present a dynamic model of a coaxial rotor flying robot and design an embedded controller far the robot, and implement them to control the developed flying robot. Experimental results show that the proposed controller is valid for autonomous hovering and position control.

  • High-performance smartphones, equipped with a digital camera and an application software, can render conventional bench-top laboratory instruments mobile at affordable costs. As the smartphone-based devices are portable and wireless, they have wide applications especially in providing point-of-care (POC) tests in resource-constrained areas. We developed a hand-held diagnostic system, Mobile SmartScope, which consists of a small optical unit integrated with a smartphone. The performance of the SmartScope was favorably compared with that of conventional light microscopy in detecting and quantifying red blood cells. We also evaluated the fluorescence detection limit of the SmartScope incorporated with a blue light-emitting diode and appropriate optical filters by using fluorescently labeled microbeads for intensity calibration.

  • In this paper, we introduce a case study of developing a miniature humanoid robot that has 16 degrees of freedom and is able to perform statically stable walking. The developed humanoid robot is 37cm tall and weighs 1,200g. RC servo motors are used as actuators. The robot can walk forward and turn to any direction on even surface. It equipped with a small digital camera, so it can transmit vision data to a remote host computer via wireless modem. The robot can be operated in two modes; One is a remote-controlled mode, in which the robot behaves according to the command given by a human operator through the user-interface program running on a remote host computer, the other is a stand-alone mode, in which the robot behaves autonomously according to the pre-programmed strategy. The user-interface program also contains a robot graphic simulator that is used to produce and verify the robot's gait motion. In our walking algorithm, the ankle joint is mainly used lot balancing the robot. The experimental results shows that the developed robot can perform statically stable walking on even surface.

  • This study is represented a method to give connect to optical cable from accident site and reviewed the method to transmission a moving image to control centre by real time, following the study of image transmission method in copper cable section where is a main line of railroad communication. Concept of network is studied to use cable and equipment effectively, and it's also reviewed technology of digital image transmission system and image evaluation methods, in spite of the pixel of camera and monitor resolution determine quality of image when moving image transferring by point to point. In addition, this study is reviewed checks and considerations of image transmission equipment (codec) with various transmission methods in room test, and then examined and analyzed wire/wireless combined transmission methods at wayside.

  • In this paper, the blue-green algae monitoring program of applying IoT(Internet of things) technologies is designed and implemented that can check out the status of the river's water quality in real time. The proposed system is to extract the image data from the camera of raspberry pi by an wireless network, and it is analyzed through the HSV color model. We measure the temperature using a DS18B20 1-wire temperature sensor. The extracted information of image data and temperature is then analyzed in C and Python programs for use with Raspberry Pi. The XML data in PHP program is made from the analyzed information and provides Web services. It also allows to refer the XML data using mobile devices.

  • An integrated type fire alarm control panel which is for the purpose of the ubiquitous environment application is reported. For the ubiquitous environments, mainly three additional functions upon its inherent capabilities are implemented. That is, wireless technology with ZigBee capability is applied for the interface of ZigBee detectors. Camera images can be displayed in the fire alarm control panel in which images are transferred via ethernet. For the time synchronization of the distributed fire alarm control panel, GPS module is introduced and implemented in the system.
