The vehicle collision speed in mid and high range can be checked by EDM(Event Driven memory) data recorded when the air bag works. But it's difficult to estimate the low speed of vehicle collision. And estimating the speed is important because the injury level can be changed by the impact speed. The study proposed an estimating algorithm by analysing the images recorded in car blackbox instrument. Low speed rear collision accidents simulated with wire winding motor for various vehicle types. The study estimated the impact speed with the ratio of the distance change between two vehicles and the length change of the number plate of front vehicle. The closer the vehicles are, the larger the plate length is. You can estimate the impact speed with the ratio. The impact speed is calculated with the initial distance for a specific length of number plate in the algorithm. The results can be applied to the linear rear collision because the angle of impact was not considered in this study.

Research into the selection of suitable materials and the development of fast processing methods for press die manufacturing is absolutely necessary to reduce the production time and cost. In particular, knowledge of its heat properties must be considered whendeveloping a long press die. Generally, as the main component materials of press dies, Cr, W low alloy tool steel, high carbon-high chrome steel, high speed steel, etc., are used as thetooling steel for the cold die. Machine tools and wire-cut electric discharge machining are mainly used for processing the press die parts. There are many differences in the machining time and life cycle of die parts depending on the machining process. The parts produced by milling and grinding have a high manufacturing time and cost with a long life cycle, while thosemade by milling and wire-cut discharge machining have areduced manufacturing time and cost, whereastheir die life cycle is reduced. Therefore, in this study, we will discuss amethod of improving the life cycle of the die parts by using heat treatment as a processing method that reduces the manufacturing time and cost. SEM, EDS analysis and the surface roughness analysis of the surface and center of the workpiece are used for analyzing the specimens produced by three machining methods, viz. milling - grinding, milling - wire cut discharge, and milling - wire cut discharge - heat treatment. A method of making die parts having the same life cycle as those produced by milling - grinding is developed with the milling - wire cut discharge - high temperature tempering method.

FEF(Focused Electromagnetic Field) technique was newly developed that is based on the induction principle exciting electromagnetic field. The technique consists of an induction wire and a sensor for detecting electromagnetic field, and is applied in a non-contact mode. In this study, the technique was applied to the evaluation of EDM slits in some conductive materials - aluminum alloy, stainless steel and Inconel alloy. The voltage in the non-defect region is depended upon the measurement lift-off. The voltage signals on defects are measured with peak values, and the peak values changed with the depth of defects. The voltage distributions for all conductive materials are the same trend.

In this study, a simple and effective method was proposed to minimize electrolytic corrosion on the workpiece during ED-drilling using water as a working fluid. The adhesion of a cover plate onto the surface of the workpiece was greatly effective for suppressing electrolytic corrosion during ED-drilling. The experiment revealed that the adhesion of the cover plate prevented corrosion without causing significant changes in machining characteristics. Using the machining method proposed in this paper, electrolytic-corrosion-free holes can be machined without change in the machinery system. By using corrosion-free hole as a start hole for wire EDM, a lead frame die with high quality was fabricated successfully.

Manufacturing technologies of micro spur gear and micro mold by micro PIM were studied with stainless steel feedstock. For molding of gears, micro mold with gear cavity of 1.2 mm in diameter was produced by wire EDM. The proper injection pressure was selected to 70bar by observation and measuring of shapes and shrinkage of gears before/after sintering. For fabrication of micro mold, a tiny polymer gear was produced by injection into the mold. Then, 316L feedstock was again injected/compressed on the polymer gear and debinded together with polymer gear followed by sintering. As a result, another metal mold with gear cavity reduced to about 20% was fabricated and through repetition of this process chain, micro gear mold with cavity about below 800 um was finally obtained. In reduction of size by injection/compression molding, height of gear tooth was shrunk more and the effort for decrease of roughness of micro cavity were carried out ultrasonic polishing and as a result, the roughness in cavity decreased from 3-4 um to about 200 nm.

Experimental study was conducted for lapping process after WEDMed specimen. In order to decide the lapping depth of the specimen, the number of the grain size was increased from 400, 600 to 800 to obtain the better surface. Observation of scanning electron microscope, hardness test, surface roughness test and energy dispersive spectrum(EDS) analysis were used for this experimental study. From the comparison and analyses of the results of between the wire-cut electrical discharge machining and the lapping, the following results were obtained. The surface roughness after lapping was found to be improved as increasing the number of lapping process like 1st, 2nd, 3rd lapping and the number of grain size such as 400, 600, 800. The surface hardness after increasing the lapping depth of the specimen was slowly increased. It was found that after 3rd lapping process the hardness was reached the hardness of original base material. It was found that the small amount of coating components within 3% was remained after the 1st lapping process, compared to that approximately 16% after WEDM process.

Currently existing high-accuracy and high-speed die sets used in reciprocal press create scratches at the surface of guide posts, steel balls, and bushes due to vertical movement of balls with point-contacts between inner surface of bushes and guide posts. Consequently, accuracy of the die set and the life span of the metal mold are reduced. However, those scratches could reduce the pre-load of the steel ball. This research designed and developed a groove-type die set which improves life span of the die set by eliminating point-contacts of steel balls with guide posts. The guide post consisted of a steel-ball retainer, a steel-ball retainer stopper, a guide bush, a guide pin, a snap ring, and a spring. The steel-ball retainer has 72 holes with 8 columns of 9 holes in each column. The inner surface of the guide bush was grinded(surface roughness: $Ra\;\\;0.2{\mu}m$, accuracy: $0\;{\sim}\;-0.002mm$) after NC turning and heat treatment. Also, a line of small intermediate pocket was processed inside of the guide bush for lubrication and elimination of foreign materials. Guide grooves of steel balls were processed using a wire EDM(Electrical Discharge Machining) after heat treatment. With such a design of the guide post stated above, loads against steel balls could be dispersed greatly by the line contacts through the guide groove between the guide post and the guide bush, and the life span of the guide post could be expanded semi-permanently.
