  • This study compared the sea surface wind pattern between model results from KMA operational model (RDAPS) and observational results from QuikSCAT in the 2005-2006 year. The mean spatial distributions of sea surface wind show the prominent seasonal patterns of summer and winter season adjacent to Korean Peninsular. The statistical analysis also shows well seasonal variation of sea surface wind patterns between model and observation results. The BIAS value represents less than -0.5 m/s and -1 m/s in summer and winter seasons, respectively. The spatially averaged correlation coefficient shows larger than 0.7 and 0.8 in summer and winter seasons, respectively. The correlation coefficient of winter season shows higher value than that of summer season in the comparison between model and observation. This results show that the RDAPS model simulate well strong sea surface wind in winter season rather than weak sea surface wind in summer season.

  • This paper describes the study and test for sand and gravel embankment in winter season and also contribute to the development of construction method for the practical purposes. In order to make possible sand and gravel embankment in winter season, at first, the following eriteria on work are given under the normal weather condition: 1) The maximum diameter of material shall not exceed 30cm and sand content which is the ratio of the weight of sand to gravel shall not exceed 60% 2) Spreading depth shall not exceed 60cm each layer of material shall be compacted by over 6 times passing by thell ton smooth drum type of uibratory roller and the relative density shall exceed 60% In addition to the above conditions, the following criteria are given as winter season condition. 3) Sand contsnt shall not exceed 25%, and water content shall not exceed 4% 4) Dwing construction, the air temperature should be $70^{\circ}C$ below zero at minimum and $3^{\circ}C$ below zero onthe average and all the construction work should he continued without intersuptions. With above criteria, it is come to a conclusion that the conclusion that the construction of sand and gravel embankment in winter season will be done satisfactorily without any difficulty. On the basis of these criteria an actual construction was practiced and it was proved that those criteria are applicable to actual embankment of materials.

  • Through data analysis using the meteorological data during 40 years(1961∼2000) for 2 stations(Daegu and Chupungnyong), we studied the present condition and long-term trends in urban climatic environments of Daegu. It was found that there was about 1.5$^{\circ}C$ rise in annual mean temperature of Daegu from 1961 to 2000. On the other hand, that of Chupungnyung was not more than 0.4$^{\circ}C$ for the same period. The regional disparity in temperature changes has been caused by the difference of urban effects on climate between two regions. In particular, the urban warming appears more significant in winter season. There was about 3$^{\circ}C$ rise in annual mean daily minimum temperature of winter season(Dec.∼Feb.) in Daegu. As the result, the number of winter days continuously decreased from 115 days(1961) to 75 days(2000). The long-term trends of relative humidity were also studied to exame the effects of urbanization on climate in Daegu. It was found that there was about 7% decrease in relative humidity of Daegu during past 40 years(1961∼2000). On the other side, the decrease of Chupungnyung was not more than 2% for the same period. The long-term trends of the other climatic factors(fog days, tropical night days, etc) were also studied in this study.

  • Construction projects are being more complicated in proportion to the economic development. Process management is a critical issue in the construction that decides success of a project. Especially, a TACT method which divides and manages resources to repeat each activity is more important. Although becoming an issue dealing with the delay at winter season, it is not property developed. This paper suggests 'activity priority method' and 'TACT unit method' through case study. We validate necessity and efficiency of the TACT method through simulations and a survey. We expect cost reduction by decreasing unnecessary spending.

  • Concentrations of suspended particulate matters (SPM) and their distribution patterns were monitored three times in the East China Sea during the winter season in 1998 and 1999. SPM concentrations showed significant temporal variations controlled by the atmospheric conditions and sea states. In coastal area, SPM values were about 10-20 mg/l in fair weather conditions, but exceeded 100mg/l during the storm periods. Turbid waters were distributed widespread in the continental shelf of the East China Sea and the coastal area of the Korean Peninsula, and these two areas were connected along a NE-SW direction. The distribution patterns of turbid waters were interpreted as representing the transport behavior of suspended matter. Although the primary source of inner shelf mud deposits of Korea seems to be the Korean Peninsula, contribution from the East China Sea to the coastal area of Korea increases especially during the winter season.

  • With the serial observation data of the Fisheries Research and Development Agency in Korea and Japan Meteorological Agency from 1969 to 1974, the geostrophic current and volume transport were calculated in the Korea Strait and in the middle of the East Sea (Japan Sea), in order to compare the total volume transport in summer and winter seasons. The results are as follows. The annual mean of the net volume transport of the Korea Strait is 0.19${\times}$10$\^$6/m$\^$3/sec in winter season and 1.33${\times}$10$\^$6/m$\^$3/sec in summer season. The transport through the western and eastern channel of the Korea Srait is almost same in winter season, but the transport of the western channel is much larger than that of the eastern channel in summer season. The annual mean of the net volume transport of the middle section of the East Sea (Japan Sea) is 2.61${\times}$10$\^$6/m$\^$3/sec in winter season and 2.41${\times}$10$\^$6/m$\^$3/sec in summer season. Therefore the transorts are almost same in both seasons. Comparing the transports of the two sections, the transport through the middle section of the East Sea is 13.7 times as large as that of the Korea Strait in winter season and 1.8 times in summer season.

  • Public construction companies have strictly followed a rule that they should not do the works using water such as concrete pouring for the structural frame for a certain period during the winter season. It is usually known that the designated non-working period during the winter causes increase of the project duration and the project cost escalation. The halted work also makes negative effects on national economy because it reduces worker's income. However, the situation would be a lot better if the work for the structural frame is allowed under some conditions. The structural framework done alone without being followed by finish works gives a lot of stresses on the finish works. In this sense, this study examines how the structural framework performed during the winter season affect on the critical path of the finish works. To accomplish the objective of this research, the subnet for the finish works as well as a master network are prepared along with critical paths for a virtual construction site. Using the prepared networks, simulations are carried out to see the effects described above. This study is expected to be used in estimating the construction duration of high-rise apartment housing when the site work for the structural frame should be performed during this period.

  • The purpose of this research is to analyze the effect of the traditional color sentiment on the contemporary clothing color by researching the street fashion of 2010 Winter season of Dalian in China, in view of the clothing color of women in their 20-30 years of age, along with traditional Chinese color. This is the 2nd paper following the paper no. 1, focusing on 2010 Summer season, so the research method is same as the paper no. 1. As a result, Black and deep tone PB color most frequently appeared. The vivid and strong tone of R, YR, Y color showed high frequency of clothing colors. This results illustrate that the clothing color choices of Chinese women was affected by Chinese traditional color sentiment rather than the international color trend. Characteristically, in winter season, frequency of R and Y color categories were higher than in summer season, specially in the top and accessories color, those colors showed higher frequency than the other colors. These were the important points in dealing with winter color trend, so that the fashion company and brands should take it an important points when they are planning winter clothing colors. The achromatic colors show the high frequency in both seasons. The bottom color shows high incidence of Black and deep tone of PB color categories as in the previous researches. That means consistent color trend existed in Dalian city, however it does not seem to have its origin from traditional Chinese color preferences. This kinds of regional and seasonal research might contribute to finding the basic informations about the design and marketing strategies to launch into the Chinese fashion market.

  • Pilot study was performed to examine the feasibility of the pond system for further polishing of treatment wetland effluent from December 2000 to June 2001. The wetland system used for the experiment was highly effective to treat the sewage during the growing season, but it was less effective and its effluent was still high to discharge to the receiving water body. Therefore, the wetland effluent may need further treatment to prevent water quality degradation. Pond system could be used to hold and further polish the wetland effluent during the winter season and ots feasibility was evaluated in this study. Additional water quality improvement was apparent in the pond system during winter season, and the pond effluent could be good enough to meet the effluent water quality standards if it is properly managed. Timing of the pond effluent discharge appears to be critical for pond system management because it is a closed system and whole water quality constituents are affected by physical, chemical, and biological pond environments. Once algae started to grow in mid-April, constituents in the pond water column interact each other actively and its control becomes more complicated. Therefore, upper layer of the pond water column which is clearer than the lower layer my need be discharged in March right after ice cover melted. In the experiment, water quality of the upper water column was markedly clear in March than ant other times probably because of freezing-thawing effect. The remaining lower water column could be further treated by natural purification as temperature goes up or diluted with better quality of wetland effluent for appropriate water uses. This study demonstrated the feasibility of pond system for subsequent management of wetland effluent during the winter season, however, more study is needed for field application.
