Simulation of monopile-wheel hybrid foundations under eccentric lateral load in sand-over-clay

  • The monopile-friction wheel hybrid foundation is an innovative solution for offshore structures which are mainly subjected to large lateral eccentric load induced by winds, waves, and currents during their service life. This paper presents an extensive numerical analysis to investigate the lateral load and moment bearing performances of hybrid foundation, considering various potential influencing factors in sand-overlaying-clay soil deposits, with the complex lateral loads being simplified into a resultant lateral load acting at a certain height above the mudline. Finite element models are generated and validated against experimental data where very good agreements are obtained. The failure mechanisms of hybrid foundations under lateral loading are illustrated to demonstrate the effect of the friction wheel in the hybrid system. Parametric study shows that the load bearing performances of the hybrid foundation is significantly dependent of wheel diameter, pile embedment depth, internal friction angle of sand, loading eccentricity (distance from the load application point to the ground level), and the thickness of upper sandy layer. Simplified empirical formulae is proposed based on the numerical results to predict the corresponding lateral load and moment bearing capacities of the hybrid foundation for design application.

  • 본 논문에서는 하이브리드 해상풍력발전 지지구조물의 콘크리트베이스와 파일기초를 연결하는 베이스-슬리브 연결부를 제시하고 이를 실험적으로 검증하였다. 베이스-슬리브 연결부의 펀칭 전단 강도와 구조거동을 분석을 위하여, 철근비와 하중조건을 변수로 하는 3개의 연결부 실험체에 대하여 펀칭전단실험이 실시하였다. 실험 결과, 베이스-슬리브 연결부의 펀칭전단강도와 강성은 베이스의 철근비에 주로 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다. 축력과 모멘트가 동시에 작용되는 하중 조건은 연결부의 강성에는 영향을 미치지 않으나 축력-모멘트 상호작용에 의하여 강도에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 각 실험체의 파괴거동과 펀칭전단의 위험단면에 대해 검토되었다.

  • 에너지 소비 구조의 개선을 목적으로 한 자연에너지 이용시스템의 도입이 전력 계통의 계획 운용에 미치는 영향을 다목적 최적화 방법을 이용하여 평가하는 방법이 논하여 지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 시험 제작한 태양열과 풍력 에너지를 주체로하는 자연에너지 복합 이용시스템이 특정 지역에 복수 도입되어 지는 경우 전력 통계 운용에 의한 경제성, 안정성, 환경에 대한 영향 평가 방법을 검토하였다. 연구 방법은 대상 지역의 일사 분포와 풍속 분포에 의해서 취득 가능한 에너지를 산정하여 전력 계통 부하의 형상에 미치는 영향을 구하였고, 다음에는 대상 기간에 의한 최적 발전 배분을 결정하여 경제성, 안정성, 환경 지표 등의 평가를 하였다. 지금까지는 자연에너지 이용시스템의 도입에 대하여 경제적 측면만 논의되었지만, 본 연구에서 제한된 방법에 의해 안정성과 환경 보전의 영향을 고려한 평가 방법도 가능하다는 것을 나타내었다.

Mitigation of motions of tall buildings with specific examples of recent applications

  • Flexible structures may experience excessive levels of vibration under the action of wind, adversely affecting serviceability and occupant comfort. To ensure the functional performance of a structure, various design modifications are possible, ranging from alternative structural systems to the utilization of passive and active control devices. This paper presents an overview of state-of-the-art measures that reduce the structural response of buildings, including a summary of recent work in aerodynamic tailoring and a discussion of auxiliary damping devices for mitigating the wind-induced motion of structures. In addition, some discussion of the application of such devices to improve structural resistance to seismic events is also presented, concluding with detailed examples of the application of auxiliary damping devices in Australia, Canada, China, Japan, and the United States.

Comparative Analysis of Wind Power Energy Potential at Two Coastal Locations in Bangladesh

  • In this study, wind conditions and its energy potential have been assessed by conducting a Weibull analysis of the wind speed data (over the period of 2002-2011) measured from a port city (Mongla) and an isolated island (Sandwip) in Bangladesh. The monthly mean wind speed at Mongla ranged from 1.60 m/s (December) to 2.47 m/s (April). The monthly values of Weibull shape parameter (k) were from 1.27 to 2.53. In addition, the values of the scale parameter (c) and the monthly wind power density ranged from 1.76 to 2.79 m/s and 3.95 to $17.45W/m^2$, respectively. The seasonal mean wind speed data varied from 1.72 (fall) to 2.29 m/s (spring) with the wind power density from 5.33 (fall) to $14.26W/m^2$ (spring). In the case of Sandwip, the results were comparable to those of Mongla, but moderate reductions in all the comparable variables were observed. The wind data results of these two areas have been compared with those of eight other locations in the world with respect to wind power generation scale. According to this comparison, the wind power generation scale for Mongla and Sandwip was adequate for stand-alone small/micro-scale applications such as local household consumption, solar-wind hybrid irrigation pumps, and battery charging.

부유식 파력-해상풍력 복합 발전시스템의 등가설계파 기법 적용에 관한 연구 (A Study on Equivalent Design Wave Approach for a Wave-Offshore Wind Hybrid Power Generation System)

  • 부유식 해양구조물은 설계수명 동안 조우할 수 있는 가장 극심한 환경하중을 고려하여 설계되어야 한다. 본 연구의 해석 대상인 부유식 파력-해상풍력 복합 발전시스템에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 환경하중은 파랑하중이다. 파랑하중의 주요 매개변수는 파장, 파고, 파향이며, 이들의 조합에 따라 구조물의 거동특성에 미치는 영향은 판이하다. 이에 따라, 대상 해역이 가지는 파랑의 특성과 구조물이 가지는 응답 특성을 기반으로 극한 응답을 주는 파랑인자를 탐색하는 과정이 필요하다. 즉, 환경조건 범위에서 발생할 수 있는 모든 파랑조건을 탐색하여 최대 응답을 발생시키는 등가설계파를 추출해야 한다. 이는 특정 하중의 최대 설계 응답과 동일한 응답 수준을 주는 규칙파를 탐색하는 일련의 과정을 통해 계산 가능하다. 본 연구에서는 부유식 파력-해상풍력 복합 발전시스템에 작용하는 특정 하중 인자에 대해 등가설계파를 산정하였으며, 전체구조해석에 활용하였다.

  • The on-grid distributed power system operated antiislanding due to the momently voltage sag of the power system, fault and etc. According to the 'Dispersed Generations in Distribution Systems Connection Technology Standard', the utilizable time ratio of PCS is low because of being put into in the steady state of the power system after 5 minutes. In this paper, the output characteristic is optimized with the hybrid system consisting of the wind system and PV system. And energy of hybrid system is supplied to the power system. Also, DVR function was applied to PCS to compensate the voltage sag frequently happening for a power system. The control performance of the proposed hybrid PCS is analyzed and simulated using PSIM to validate the system performace.

  • This paper discusses power balance control of photovoltaic/wind/diesel hybrid generation system for remote area power supplies. There are many control methods for hybrid power system. Among others, it must be adopted that the control method to guarantee a stable balance between supply and demand, regardless of the fluctuation of generator power by atmospheric changes. In this paper, it Is proposed that a hybrid generation system has a power-balanced controller to equilibrate generation power with a load demand, which is composed of DC bus-type power systems. To execute power balance control, it is assumed that all of power generators have a equivalent current-source characteristics. Through the results of simulation, the proposed scheme was verified.

  • A hybrid mass damper that combines a tuned mass damper and an actuator has been recognized to be one of the most promising devices for vibration control of a tall building subjected to dynamic loads such as wind and earthquake. In this paper, in order to reduce vibration levels of a 5-story test structure, a hybrid mass damper using AC-servomotor was designed and developed. And control performances using HMD and TMD under random and earthquake excitations are compared through experimental test. It is confirmed that it is more effective to reduce the vibration levels of the test structure using HMD especially for earthquake excitation.

Optimal Power Control Strategy for Wind Farm with Energy Storage System

  • The use of energy storage systems (ESSs) has become a feasible solution to solve the wind power intermittency issue. However, the use of ESSs increases the system cost significantly. In this paper, an optimal power flow control scheme to minimize the ESS capacity is proposed by using the zero-phase delay low-pass filter which can eliminate the phase delay between the dispatch power and the wind power. In addition, the filter time constant is optimized at the beginning of each dispatching interval to ensure the fluctuation mitigation requirement imposed by the grid code with a minimal ESS capacity. And also, a short-term power dispatch control algorithm is developed suitable for the proposed power dispatch based on the zero-phase delay low-pass filter with the predetermined ESS capacity. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed power management approach, case studies are carried out by using a 3-MW wind turbine with real wind speed data measured on Jeju Island.
