대기경계층과 연안순환에 의한 부유입자의 재순환 (Recycling of Suspended Particulates by Atmospheric Boundary Depth and Coastal Circulation)

  • The dispersion of suspended particulates in the coastal complex terrain of mountain-inland basin (city)-sea, considering their recycling was investigated using three-dimensional non-hydrostatic numerical model and lagrangian particle model (or random walk model). Convective boundary layer under synoptic scale westerly wind is developed with a thickness of about I km over the ground in the west of the mountain, while a thickness of thermal internal boundary layer (TIBL) is only confined to less than 200m along the eastern slope of the mountain, below an easterly sea breeze circulation. At the mid of the eastern slop of the mountain, westerly wind confronts easterly sea breeze, which goes to the height of 1700 m above sea level and is finally eastward return flow toward the sea. At this time, particulates floated from the ground surface of the city to the top of TIBL go along the eastern slope of the mountain in the passage of sea breeze, being away the TIBL and reach near the top of the mountain. Then those particulates disperse eastward below the height of sea-breeze circulation and widely spread out over the coastal sea. Total suspended particulate concentration near the ground surface of the city is very low. On the other hand, nighttime radiative cooling produces a shallow nocturnal surface inversion layer (NSIL) of 200 m thickness over the inland surface, but relatively thin thickness less than 100m is found near the mountain surface. As synoptic scale westerly wind should be intensified under the association of mountain wind along the eastern slope of mountain to inland plain and further combine with land-breeze from inland plain toward sea, resulting in strong wind as internal gravity waves with a hydraulic jump motion bounding up to about 1km upper level in the atmosphere in the west of the city and becoming a eastward return flow. Simultaneously, wind near the eastern coastal side of the city was moderate. Since the downward strong wind penetrated into the city, the particulate matters floated near the top of the mountain in the day also moved down along the eastern slope of the mountain, reaching the. downtown and merging in the ground surface inside the NSIL with a maximum ground level concentration of total suspended particulates (TSP) at 0300 LST. Some of them were bounded up from the ground surface to the 1km upper level and the others were forward to the coastal sea surface, showing their dispersions from the coastal NSIL toward the propagation area of internal gravity waves. On the next day at 0600 LST and 0900 LST, the dispersed particulates into the coastal sea could return to the coastal inland area under the influence of sea breeze and the recycled particulates combine with emitted ones from the ground surface, resulting in relatively high TSP concentration. Later, they float again up to the thermal internal boundary layer, following sea breeze circulation.

  • 최근 한반도를 내습하는 폭풍의 규모가 커지고 이에 대한 피해도 증가하고 있는 실정이어서 외해로 개방된 도서해역이나 연안역에 대한 재해방지를 위한 설계파라메터의 재산정이 필요한 상황이다. 기존의 설계 파라메타는 심해 설계파랑이나 바람자료만을 입력값으로 한 규칙파 모형으로 계산되어, 바람에 의한 파의 성장, 파랑 상호간의 간섭 및 에너지 재분포 등을 다룰 수 없는 문제점에 노출되어 있었다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 이러한 파랑과 바람에 의한 파의 발달 및 상호간섭을 고려할 수 있는 정상상태 스펙트럼 모델의 하나인 SWAn(Simulation WAves Nearshore)모형을 이용하여 파랑변형 수치모의를 수행하였다. 연구 대상영역에 대한 기존의 설계 파라메타의 비교 결과, 기존 결과와 큰 차이를 나타내고 있으며, 특히, 이들 해역에서 도출된 결과는 장래 항만설계 및 방재 분야에서 널리 이용될 것으로 판단된다.

Boussinesq 모델을 이용한 제주 차귀도 해역의 다방향 불규칙파 시뮬레이션 (A Simulation of Directional Irregular Waves at Chagui-Do Sea Area in Jeju Using the Boussinesq Wave Model)

  • Based on the Boussinesq wave model, the wave distribution in the Chagui-Do sea area in Jeju was simulated by applying the directional irregular waves at an incident boundary. The time and spatial variations of monthly mean wave height and period were investigated, which aims to provide basic information on optimal sites for wave power generation. The grid size and time interval of the Boussinesq wave model were validated by examining wave distributions around a surface piercing wall, fixed at sea bottom with a constant slope. Except for the summer season, the significant wave height is dominated by wind waves and appears to be relatively high at the north sea of Chagui-Do, which is open to the ocean, while it is remarkably reduced at the rear sea of Chagui-Do because of its blocking effect on incident waves. In the summer, the significant wave height is higher at the south sea, and it is dominated by the swell waves, which is contributed by the strong south-west wind. The magnitude of significant wave height is the largest in the winter and the lowest in the spring. Annual average of the significant wave height is distinctively high at the west sea close to the Chagui-Do coast, due to a steep variation of water depth and corresponding wave focusing effect. The seasonal and spatial distribution of the wave period around Chagui-Do sea reveals very similar characteristics to the significant wave height. It is suggested that the west sea close to the Chagui-Do coast is the mast promising site for wave power generation.

Modeling of steady motion and vertical-plane dynamics of a tunnel hull

  • High-speed marine vehicles can take advantage of aerodynamically supported platforms or air wings to increase maximum speed or transportation efficiency. However, this also results in increased complexity of boat dynamics, especially in the presence of waves and wind gusts. In this study, a mathematical model based on the fully unsteady aerodynamic extreme-ground-effect theory and the hydrodynamic added-mass strip theory is applied for simulating vertical-plane motions of a tunnel hull in a disturbed environment, as well as determining its steady states in calm conditions. Calculated responses of the boat to wind gusts and surface waves are demonstrated. The present model can be used as a supplementary method for preliminary estimations of performance of aerodynamically assisted marine craft.

  • Tidal amplification by construction of the sea-dike and sea-walls had been detected not only near Mokpo Harbor but also at Chungkye Bay which is connected with Mokpo Harbor by a narrow channel. This brings about increase of tidal flat area and in particular increase of surge-wave combined runup during storms. The purpose of this study is to examine an efficient operational model that can be used by civil defense agencies for real-time prediction and fast warnings on wind waves and storm surges. Instead of using commercialized wave models such as WAM, SWAN, the wind waves are simulated by using a new concept of wavelength modulation to enhance broader application of the hyperbolic wave model of the mild-slope equation type. Furthermore, The predicting system is composed of easy and economical tools for inputting depth data of complex bathymetry and enormous tidal flats such as Mokpo coastal zone. The method is applied to Chungkye Bay, and possible inundation features at Mokpo Harbor are analyzed.

  • This paper presents a brief outline of dynamic stability of damaged ship in rough, beam wind and waves. The one degree-of-freedom, linear roll equation is adopted with the effects of damage fluid and external forces, but without the effect of sloshing. We evaluate the dynamic stability in terms of capizing probability based on energy balance mechanics and risk analysis , the method of which was proposed by Umeda [2] to the high speed crafts. As a result, we can predict the dynamic stability quantitatively according to sea state , operating and damage conditions.

  • The paper reports on the first experimental evidence for space-observed manifestation of the open ocean tsunami in the microwave radar backscatter (in C- and Ku-bands). Significant variations of the radar cross section synchronous with the sea level anomaly were found in the geophysical data record of the altimetry satellite Jason-1 for the track which crossed the head wave of the catastrophic tsunami of 26 December 2004. The simultaneous analysis of the available complementary data provided by the satellite three-channel radiometer enabled us to exclude meteorological factors as possible causes of the observed signal modulation. A possible physical mechanism of modulation of short wind waves due to transformation of the thin boundary layer in the air by a tsunami wave is discussed. The results open new possibilities of monitoring tsunamis from space..

동해 연안에서 관측된 풍속자료를 이용한 바람소음준위 추정 연구 (A study on the estimation of wind noise level using the measured wind-speed data in the coastal area of the East Sea)

  • 항해하는 선박으로부터 방사되는 선박소음과 달리 바람소음은 바람과 해수면의 상호작용으로 생성된 쇄파에 의해 발생한다. 본 논문에서는 바람의 소음원을 쇄파로 인해 발생되는 기포운으로 설정하여 바람소음준위를 모델링하였다. 모델링에서 바람소음의 음원준위는 동해 연안에서 운영되는 기상부이로부터 측정된 풍속 자료를 이용하여 계산하였다. 풍속을 측정함과 동시에 기상부이의 주변에 계류된 자가기록식 수중청음기를 이용하여 소음준위를 연속적으로 측정하였다. 측정된 수중소음에서 선박소음을 제거한 소음준위와 풍속에 따라 모델링된 바람소음준위를 저주파대역에서 비교하였다. 모델링된 바람소음준위와 측정된 소음준위의 전반적인 경향이 서로 유사하였다. 이에 따라 바람에 의해 발생된 소음원인 기포운의 음원준위 및 분포 수심을 고려하여 천해역에서 바람소음준위를 모델링하는 것이 가능함을 확인하였다.

Bound Mode의 외중력파에 의한 항내 이상파 생성가능성에 대하여 (On the Feasibility of Freak Waves Formation within the Harbor Due to the Presence of Infra-Gravity Waves of Bound Mode Underlying the Ever-Present Swells)

  • Bound mode의 외중력파와 이로 인한 보강간섭이 이상파 생성 기작이라는 가설을 확인하기 위해 OpenFoam 기반 Tool box인 ihFoam과 Bi-spectrum에 기초한 수치모의를 수행하였다. 수치모의는 건설 과정에서 이상파가 관측된 삼척 LNG 생산기지 전용부두를 대상으로 수행되었으며, Bound mode의 외중력파는 Bi-spectrum에 기반하여 출현빈도가 높은 주기가 7초인 국지 풍성파와 11.4초인 너울의 difference interaction으로 생성하였다. 또한 비교를 위해 비선형 Cnoidal wave, linear wave를 대상으로 한 수치모의도 병행하여 수행하였다. 모의결과 N 계열 bound mode의 외중력파에 의해 삼척 LNG 생산기지 전용부두를 따라 진행되는 연파가 생성되며, 이상파는 전술한 연파와 남측 도류제로부터의 반사파가 더해져 출현하는 것으로 모의되었다.

Time-Dependent Characteristics of the Nonequilibrium Condensation in Subsonic Flows

  • High-speed moist air or steam flow has long been of important subject in engineering and industrial applications. Of many complicated gas dynamics problems involved in moist air flows, the most challenging task is to understand the nonequilibrium condensation phenomenon when the moist air rapidly expands through a flow device. Many theoretical and experimental studies using supersonic wind tunnels have devoted to the understanding of the nonequilibrium condensation flow physics so far. However, the nonequilibrium condensation can be also generated in the subsonic flows induced by the unsteady expansion waves in shock tube. The major flow physics of the nonequilibrium condensation in this application may be different from those obtained in the supersonic wind tunnels. In the current study, the nonequilibrium condensation phenomenon caused by the unsteady expansion waves in a shock tube is analyzed by using the two-dimensional, unsteady, Navier-Stokes equations, which are fully coupled with a droplet growth equation. The third-order TVD MUSCL scheme is applied to solve the governing equation systems. The computational results are compared with the previous experimental data. The time-dependent behavior of nonequilibrium condensation of moist air in shock tube is investigated in details. The results show that the major characteristics of the nonequilibrium condensation phenomenon in shock tube are very different from those in the supersonic wind tunnels.
