  • For regulating generator speed above the rated wind, versatile methods have been published based on PID. However, these methods with the fixed PID gains could not guarantee that the controller works well in the whole area. In this paper, variable PID gain method has been suggested to overcome this problem. The sensitivity of power to blade pitch angle changes according to wind speed. The variable PID gain function has been derived from this sensitivity.

  • This study examined vertical shafts in high-rise apartments of the old high-rise buildings, reviewed the possibility of using flue ducts, and analyzed airflow patterns according to pressure differences between in and out side of flue ducts through computational fluid dynamics(CFD). The resulting conclusions are as follows: 1) The analysis results of airflow according to the stack effect of flue ducts show that smaller-diameter flue ducts(${\phi}1.2m$) would be morefavorable in increasing downward wind velocity than bigger-diameter ones(${\phi}1.6m$) and that the introduction ducts for outside air should be more than 50% of flue duct diameter to obtain a downward wind velocity higher than $3.0^m/s$ that is the minimum blade wind velocity of a small domestic wind generator. 2) The optimal installation location of a bypass introduction duct is the neutral plane of a flue duct or lower. When the diameter of the upper duct is bigger than that of the lower duct, it will generate more effects on the increase of downward wind velocity in flue ducts.

  • This paper presents the efficiency of a floating vertical axis wind turbine with variable-pitch. A model was designed to use the lift force and drag force for blades with various pitch angles. The blade's pitch angle is controlled by the stopper. To validate the efficiency of the wind turbine discussed in this paper, a model test was carried out through a single model efficiency experiment and wave tank experiment. The parameters of the single model efficiency experiment were the wind speed, electronic load, and pitch angle. The wave tank experiment was performed using the most efficient pitch angle from the results of the single model efficiency experiment. According to the results of the wave tank experiment, the surge and pitch motion of a structure slightly affect the efficiency of a wind turbine, but the heave motion has a large effect because the heights of the wind turbine and wind generator are almost the same.

  • This paper proposes a disturbance observer based controller design method for generating and yawing control of windturbine with two cooperative generators. Windturbine system with two cooperative generators is a distinct structure in which the wind energy supplied by blade axis is converted into electrical energy by two cooperative generators. In this structure, two generators can be controlled independently and therefore they can generate power, simultaneously performing yawing control of nacelle without extra yawing mechanism by cooperatively controlling generating load in appropriate manner. Using this structural trait, this paper designs a disturbance observer based controller that enables the windturbine system with cooperative generators to generate and yaw stably, and verifies the performance of the controller experimentally by applying it to a small-scale windturbine system with the same structure.
