  • This paper presents a method for assessing the voltage sag performance of power system involving wind power generation. Wind power generation is considered as one of the most desirable renewable energy sources. However, wind power generation have uncertain energy output and it is difficult to control the output. The existing methods of voltage sag assessment are not reflected the characteristics of wind power generation. Therefore, in order to more accurately assess the voltage sag performance, the probability of wind power operation is evaluated. In this paper, the probability is determined by combining the wind speed model with the output curve of wind turbine. The probability of wind power operation is reflected as a parameter in voltage sag assessment. The proposed method can provide more accurate results of voltage sag assessment for the case involving the wind power generation.

  • The purpose of the present study is to analyze and evaluate the performance of a small Darrieus wind turbine installed at the Urumsil region of Deokjeok-do Island in the west of South Korea 50 km away from Incheon. This place has no government electricity so alternate resources of energy needed to be installed there. For this purpose a small Darrieus wind turbine with the capacity of 1.5 kW was developed and installed at the site. The experimental power output of the wind turbine is less than the designed power at the same values of wind speed. This power loss is mainly due to the highly unsteady nature wind of sudden changes in magnitude of wind speed and wind angle. The results of current study can be used to make a future power generation plan for Deokjeok-do and other nearby small islands.

  • The wind turbine blade is the equipment converted wind into electric energy. The effect of the blade has influence of the output power and efficiency of wind turbine. The design of blade is considered of lift-to-drag ratio. structure. a condition of process of manufacture and stable maximum lift coefficient, etc. This study is used the simplified method for design of the aerodynamic blade and aerodynamic analysis used blade element method This Process is programed by delphi-language. The Program has any input values such as tip speed ratio blade length. hub length. a section of shape and max lift-to-drag ratio. The Program displays chord length and twist angle by input value and analyzes performance of the blade.

  • Wind turbine blades are adjusted in real-time according to the wind conditions and blade deformations to improve power generation efficiency. It is necessary to predict and reduce the aeroelastic deformations of wind turbine blades. In this paper, the equivalent model of the blade is established by the finite element method (FEM), and the aerodynamic load of the blade is evaluated based on the blade element momentum (BEM) theory. The aeroelastic coupling model is established, in which the bending-torsion coupling effect of the blade is taken into account. The steady and dynamic aeroelastic deformations are calculated. The influences of the blade section's shear centre position and the blade's sweepback design on the deformations are analyzed. The novel approaches of reducing the twist angle of the blade by changing the shear centre position and sweepback of the blade are presented and proven to be feasible.

  • Nowadays, a rapid development in wind power technologies is occurring compared with other renewable energies. This advance in technology has facilitated a new generation of wind turbines with larger capacity and higher efficiency. As the height of the turbines and the distance between turbines increases, the monitoring and control of this new generation wind turbines presents new challenges. This paper presents the architectural design, simulation, and evaluation of hybrid communication networks for a large-scale wind turbine (WT). The communication network of WT is designed based on logical node (LN) concepts of the IEC 61400-25 standard. The proposed hybrid network architectures are modeled and evaluated by OPNET. We also investigate network performance using three different technologies: Ethernet-based, WiFi-based, and ZigBee-based. Our network model is validated by analyzing the simulation results. This work contributes to the design of a reliable communication network for monitoring and controlling a wind power farms (WPF).

  • The development of IEC 61400-21 provides firm basis for assessment of the impact of wind turbines on voltage quality. This paper presents analysis and modeling of the flicker emission of wind turbines. The paper concentrates on the theoretical aspects of the flicker algorithm, wind turbine characteristics and the generation of flicker during continuous operation of wind turbines. It also introduces a simplified assessment to limit the flicker emission.

  • As a result of environmental concerns, the production of electricity through renewable energy resources is rapidly increasing. Wind energy is among the fastest growing renewable energy resources now being integrated in the power system, and the penetration rate of wind generation has been gradually increased. For power flow analysis of the recent systems, thus, steady-state modeling of wind turbines and their application are of great importance. This paper presents the procedure we applied for implementation of a steady-state wind turbine model in power flow.

  • We simulated the performance improvement of a wind turbine installed on the pitched roof-building(apartment in urban area, 50m height). A nozzle shape wind guide is added on the roof of a model apartment. The nozzle-diifuser structure effects for the free stream wind (average 4m/s, 50m height in Incheon) is studied by a basic CFD analysis. This paper examines the effects of roof structure on the wind velocity and the wind distortion effects by a front building. The possible wind power generation capacity on building roof in urban is calculated.

  • Wind power is the most rapidly growing energy source in the world. Increased focus on climate changes and renewable energy is supporting the wind power industry in gaining momentum. Noksan wind cluster in Busan has been a major area in manufacturing the elementary parts of wind turbine. Despite growing recognition of the significance of Noksan, there has been only limited attention paid and in recent years. This paper reviews the literature of the current burning issues in wind turbine industries in the western countries. In addition, it describes the present state of Noksan wind power generation cluster and suggests the future plans to make it more effective complex.

  • Purpose: There is no established inspection system for composite wind blade during the fabrication stage even though the blades are one of the most important part at wind generation system, but phased array ultrasonic testing method has been continuously studied about wind turbine blade with composite. When wind turbine blade with complex shape by phased array probe is inspected, it is necessary to study for system keeping constant pressure using pressure device. Methods: In this paper, we propose constant pressure device for inspecting wind turbine blade by phased array ultrasonic test method. Design of the device controller is based on Hunt-Crossley model. We evaluate reliability of phased array ultrasonic inspection result that applicated constant pressure device. Result: Defect indication is precise and its error is small when constant pressure mechanism based on Hunt-Crossley model was used. Conclusion: When inspection is progressed using constant pressure mechanism, the reliability of composite wind blade inspection can be improved.
