  • Japanese firms have been so successful in the world market especially in the 1980s due to their invocation technique, Kaizen. In the past decade, however, some countries, such as the United States, have recovered their competitiveness since they have benchmarked Japanese firms. The objective of this research is to identify the strengths and weaknesses of Kaizen and suggest a checklist during its implementation in order to recommend future directions of Kazen for Korean firms so that those firms adopting it can prevent possible failures and gaim competitive advantage. Recommended future directions include the strong leadership of the top management during the implementation of Kaizen and employees' willingness to put the vision of their company first and their own interests second.

  • This study investigated what type of destination image on Facebook increases positive attitude towards the destination and desire to travel. More specifically, we hypothesized that Facebook user's public self-consciousness will moderate the advertising effect, so we tested the difference in attitude towards the destination and willingness to visit and recommend based on the type of destination image (presence/absence of a tourist in the image) and user's public self-consciousness (high/low). As a result, when a tourist was present in the photo, positive attitude toward destination was higher than when absent. In addition, the high public self-consciousness group showed greater attitude toward destination and higher willingness to visit and recommend than low public self-consciousness group when a tourist was present in the image. However, the low public self-consciousness group showed no difference depending on the presence of a tourist. This research not only is academically significant as it experimentally tested advertising effect depending on type of destination image and Facebook user's public self-consciousness, but also holds practical significance as it suggests advertisement method to consider consumer's predisposition.

  • The study examined the behavior of infant's caregivers using public libraries, measured the level of awareness of infant and toddler services in the library to determine the factors affecting their revisit or recommendation of use to others, and examined the impact of such recognition on the use behavior, revisit and willingness to recommend others. The study surveyed 146 caregivers of infants who use four public libraries in Gwangju Metropolitan City on demographic characteristics, library use behavior, level of awareness of library services, library revisit and recommendation to others. Analysis of this survey shows that the factors that influence the caregivers' revisit of the library or their desire to recommend to others through their caregivers' use of the library are the factors that influence the expansion of information data, the stability of space facilities, the accessibility of space facilities, and the ease of participation in programs among the various service factors provided by the library rather than the personal factors of infants and toddlers' caregivers.

  • Objectives: Medical personnel are professionals subject to stressful situations and psychological distress. This case series reports the results of a mindfulness meditation program combined with digital health for medical personnel at a Korean medicine (KM) hospital. Methods: An online mindfulness program was implemented in 2022 to improve the mental health of nursing staff in a KM clinic. The online mindfulness program, which was supplemented based on previous results and limitations, was applied to KM doctors and nurses working at a KM hospital in this case series. An important difference from the existing case series was the introduction of a smartphone application that promoted the daily routine of meditation. A total of 7 medical personnel, including 4 doctors and 3 nurses, participated in the program. Results: After participating in the program, an increase in deep acting and a decrease in surface acting, which are aspects of emotional labor, were consistent with the results of a previous case series. However, the patterns of change in burnout and hwa-byung symptoms differed depending on the occupation of the participants. Participants' satisfaction with this program and the smartphone application and willingness to recommend it to colleagues were high. Conclusions: As this study was only a small case series, the author plans to continue to expand and improve the program based on the findings.

  • Purpose - The purpose of this research is to investigate the influence of social status perception and interest in social issues on the authenticity perceived by consumers of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities of premium brands. Research design, data, and methodology - Behavioral experiments were performed to observe the impact of consumers' social status perception and interest in social issues on their perceived authenticity of CSR motivation related to premium brands and consumer behavior. Results - We found that the possibility of social mobility and the degree of individuals' interest in the environment and CSR enable them to reconsider the authenticity of CSR motivation, thereby having positive effects on purchase intention, willingness to recommend the product, and brand value. This research also showed that proactive customers who seek to move up the social ladder have a stronger interest in social issues such as the environment or CSR. Conclusions - Our research suggests that when conducting a consumer segmentation analysis for the launch of CSR products (products released for CSR), a positive mind-set toward social mobility serves as an effective criterion.

  • This study analyzed the behaviors and satisfaction of park users in nine parks representing first and second-generation new towns, aiming to propose directions for planning new town parks. According to the analysis, park users in new towns mainly visit parks for purposes such as relaxation, strolling, and exercise, often with family, alone, or with friends. They typically spend 1-2 hours in the park and mostly access it on foot. Additionally, satisfaction with park accessibility is high, particularly among pedestrians. Satisfaction survey results indicate that pedestrian pathways, trees and vegetation, water features, rest areas, and cultural facilities have the greatest impact on overall park satisfaction. Playgrounds and sports facilities show relatively lower satisfaction levels, indicating a need for improvement. Furthermore, according to NPS analysis, park users are highly willing to recommend parks, especially with Gwanggyo Lake Park and Dongtan Central Park receiving high recommendation scores. IPA analysis shows that pathways and vegetation are perceived as highly important and satisfactory, while playgrounds and sports facilities are categorized as areas needing improvement. Thus, there is a need to consider improvement strategies for each. Additionally, identifying park users' grievances can lead to creating a better park environment. Finally, concerning the planning direction for new town parks, linear-shaped parks facilitating walking are preferred, with parks preserving natural terrain and forests deemed the most desirable. Based on these results, future city parks, including those in the third-generation new towns, should harmonize with nature and prioritize pedestrian access.

  • The public safety management guidelines were introduced in 2019 and continue to be dedicated to advancing comprehensive measures for public safety management, with a primary focus on prioritizing the safety and well-being of the public within governmental institutions. To achieve this goal, our previous study developed a establishment procedure of risk assessment-based safety inspection system for public institutions that order construction projects and applied it to highway construction projects to evaluate its effectiveness. To enhance the practicality of the establishment procedure, it is essential to collect and analyze feedback from stakeholders regarding its performance and suitability. This study conducted a survey involving 200 participants who had experience with the establishment procedure, and performed statistical analyses to evaluate its performance and applicability. The survey results indicated that the participants reported a high level of satisfaction (scoring 4 and above on a 5-point Likert scale) in several areas: specialization of safety inspection items for different types of work (with a satisfaction rate of 65%), the evaluation process for safety ratings (64.5%), and their willingness to recommend the procedure to other institutions (75.5%). In the factor analysis with Varimax rotation, two factors emerged: (1) a specialization factor related to safety inspection items, and (2) a grading factor associated with safety evaluation results. Regression analyses of these factors unveiled significant positive relationships with improvements in safety and health performance, including the prevention of fatal accidents, heightened safety responsibility, and raised safety inspection standards. The establishment procedure of safety inspection system developed in our previous study can play a crucial role in reducing accidents resulting in fatalities and injuries at construction sites, ultimately contributing to a safer working environment for all involved parties.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore factors that influence the use of intercity-bus services by means of applying a structural equation model. The data were collected by a questionnaire survey based on personal interviews with intercity-bus users in Chungcheongnam-do province. Analysis results show that environmental attributes of the bus service are more important than operational attributes. In the case of men, the cleanliness of bus stops and the ease of transportation card recharging are likely to be the most crucial factors. However, women are likely to consider the cleanliness of the bus as the most important factor affecting their satisfaction about the intercity-bus service. Moreover, as people's satisfaction about the bus service increases, their willingness to recommend the use of intercity-bus to others will increase. Therefore, to improve the use of intercity-bus and to increase the satisfaction about the service, clean buses must be provided. These results could contribute to developing a policy to activate the use of intercity-bus.

  • The purpose of this research is to investigate changes in ethical consumption practices after taking an undergraduate course 'Consumption and Ethics'. Through Qualitative & Quantitative research methods, students' pre-course and post-course attitudes were compared to understand changes in behavior. Before taking the course 'Consumption and Ethics', undergraduate participants displayed little regard for ethical consumption, instead displaying primary sensitivity to price and values based on self-centered and conspicuous consumption. After taking the course 'Consumption and Ethics', participants displayed a more altruistic awareness of consumption on society and the environment. In addition, participants displayed a stronger sense of pride as ethical consumer. These emerging values were contrasted with conflicting feelings resulting from the higher prices often associated with ethical products, feelings of regret resulting from ethically-based impulse purchases, and an inability to categorically evaluate the reliability of available information on the ethical products. However, participants demonstrated a willingness to practice ethical consumption and recommend ethical consumption to their friends and neighbors. Overall, participants in the study demonstrated a strong shift to be an ethical consumer as a result of taking the course 'Consumption and Ethics'.

  • Objective : This study aimed to compare the patients' satisfactions with local Korean Medicine(KM) clinics and networked KM clinics, and to find out which factors had an effect on it. Method : Six local KM clinics and six networked KM clinics were selected, and patients' questionnaires on the satisfaction with KM clinic use were administered using exit poll method. The questionnaires were developed to measure satisfactions with facility, doctor and staffs, and services. 240 patients completed the questionnaires, and the data were statistically analyzed. Results : There was more diversity in patients' diseases among networked KM clinics users, however, treatments provided were not differentiated clinically between two types of KM clinics. Patients' satisfaction scores for local KM clinics were significantly higher than those for networked KM clinics in the aspects of doctors/staffs (9.35 vs 8.92, p<.01) and services (8.76 vs 8.42, p<.05). 90.0% of local KM clinic users expressed their willingness to recommend the clinics they used to others, while 75.0% of networked KM clinics users did. For both the local and networked clinics, 'KM doctors' kindness', and 'process and waiting time' were statistical factors affecting patients' satisfaction. Conclusion : The patients' satisfactions with general KM clinics were higher than those with networked KM clinics. Networked KM clinics need to develop services to meet the diverse medical demands which were created by them selves.
