Phaeosphaeria species are pathogenic on wheat, barley and a wide range of wild grasses. To analyze mating type loci of the Phaeosphaeria species and investigate mating type distribution in Iran, we sequenced mating type loci of 273 Phaeosphaeria isolates including 67 isolates obtained from symptomatic leaves and ears of wheat, barley, and wild grasses from two wheat growing region in Iran as well as 206 isolates from our collection from other regions in Iran which were isolated in our previous studies. Mating type genes phylogeny was successfully used to determine the species identity and relationships among isolates within the Phaeosphaeria spp. complex. In this study, we reported seven new host records for Phaeosphaeria species and the Phaeosphaeria avenaria f. sp. tritici 3 group was first reported from Iran in this study. Mating type distribution among Phaeosphaeria species was determined. Both mating types were present in all sampling regions from Iran. We observed skewed distribution of mating types in one region (Kohgiluyeh va Boyer-Ahmad) and equal distribution in the other region (Bushehr). However, when considering our entire dataset of 273 Iranian Phaeosphaeria isolates, the ratio of mating types was not deviated significantly from 1:1 suggesting possibilities for isolates of opposite mating type to interact and reproduce sexually, although the sexual cycle may infrequently occur in some regions especially when the climatic conditions are unfavorable for teleomorph development.
Wild soybean plants(Glycine ussuriensis) collected from Korea(47 strains) and abroad(41 strains) were grown under field condition and classified according to the growth habit. Seeds were analyzed for protein content. The results were as follows: 1. Wild soybean plants were classified into three groups each by seed size, growth habit of stem, leaf size and flowering time. 2. Seed protein was higher in the strains with large leaves, tendril, stem or late flowering. 3. Glycine gracilis, supposed to be the intermediate species between cultivated and wild soybean(according to the stem growth habit, straight or semitendril, and seed size) was medium in protein content of seeds. 4. The average protein content of Glycine ussuriensis, 43.2%, was highest in comparison with those of others such as G. gracilis, 37.5%, or G. max, 36.2%. 5. One hundred seed weight of Amphicarpaea trisperm, similar to the wild soybean, was almost same as Glycine ussuriensis, but protein content of this species was lower than wild soybeans.

Fecal samples obtained from wild boar habitats are useful for the surveillance of diseases in wild boar populations; however, it is difficult to determine the species of origin of feces collected in natural habitats. In this study, a fecal IgA ELISA was evaluated as a method for identifying the porcine species from fecal samples. Both domestic pigs (Sus scrofa domestica) and wild boars (Sus scrofa coreanus) showed significantly higher levels of fecal IgA than other animal species. Additionally, age dependent changes in the level of Ig A in wild boars and domestic pigs were identified; Titers of Ig A were highest in suckling period and lowest in weanling period.
The origin of cultivated Prunus yedoensis Matsumura has been controvertial among botanists. This plant has been reported grown wild in Mt. Hanla. During the crossing experiment on the P. yedoensis and its putative parent performed from April 7 to 19 in Mt. Hanla, the writer studied morphological and physiological characteristics of various species of Prunus and assumed that the wild P. yedoensis may be a hybrid between P. subhirtella var. pendula form. ascendens and P. donarium.

A simple and reliable cryo technique using desiccation and slow freezing of winter dormant buds was employed for 238 core collection of mulberry germplasm collected from diverse geographical regions and maintained under tropical conditions in the ex situ field gene bank to develop long-term biodiversity conservation for ensuring sustainable utilization of these valuable resources. Desiccation and freezing tolerance of bud grafts and excised shoot apices in the axillary buds of different Morus species under in vivo and in vitro condition indicated species-specific variation and most of the wild Morus species were found sensitive. In vitro regeneration and cryopreservation($-196^{\circ}C$) protocols using differentiated bud meristem like axillary winter dormant buds were worked out for a wide range of Morus species, land races, wild and cultivated varieties. Successful cryopreservation of mulberry winter dormant buds of different accessions belonging to M. indica, M. alba, M. latifolia, M. cathayana, M. laevigata, M. nigra, M. australis, M. bombycis, M. sinensis, M multicaulis and M. rotundiloba was achieved. Among wild species Morus tiliaefolia, and M. serrata showed moderate recovery after cryopreservation. Survival rates did not alter after three years of cryopreservation of different Morus species. ISSR markers were used to ascertain the genetic stability of cryopreserved mulberry, which showed no difference detected among the plantlets regenerated from frozen apices in comparison to the non-frozen material.
Horizontal starch gel electrophoresis in three buffers was used to compare the electrophoretic patterns in three cherry species, wild Prunus subhirtella, cultivated P. yedoensis and P. donarium. Electrophoretic patterns of glutamate oxaloacetate, transaminase-2(GOT-2), malate dehydrogenase-2(MDH-2), and phosphoglucose isomerase(PGI) in three species showed strong evidence that P. yedoensis might be originated by hybridization between P. subhirtella and P. donarium.
White rot on garlic caused by Sclerotium cepivorum firstly occurred at Goheoung, Jeonnam in 1998. Thereafter, the disease rapidly spread throughout the country except Gangwon and became a major limiting factor for the cultivation of various Allium species such as garlic, onion, and welsh onion. The disease that has not been reported on a wild garlic(Allium monanthum) previously occurred severely at Seosan, Choongnam in 2003. Among cultivation areas in the region, 10.7% were infected by the disease and the ratio of diseased plant reached up to 55.0% in some heavily infected fields. Two species of Sclerotium were consistently isolated from infected samples and identified as S. cepivorum or another Sclerotium sp. Averaged size of sclerotium of the former was 455.0x562.2 urn, while the later was 374.4${\times}$347.2$\mu\textrm{m}$. Patogenicity to Allium species and mycological characteristics such as sclerotium size, growth temperature, and microconidia of the fungi were similar to those reported on other Allium species previously. Consequently, the wild garlic is a newly reported host of the two pathogenic fungi in Korea.
Phenolic compounds from 7 species of naturalized invader species and Korean wild plants were analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography. Eleven phenolic compounds including benzoic acid were identified. The extract of naturalized plants was significantly more inhibitory to seed germination and seedling growth of the both naturalized and Korean wild plants. The content of total phenolic compounds in each extract were 43.5 mg/l in Ailanthus altissima as the maximum amount and 25.5 mg/l in Phytolacca americana as the minimum. Phytotoxic substances of ethanol extracts was investigated for antifungal activity against 23 selected fungus species. The antifungal activity of Phytolacca americana showed the greatest clear zone of 23 mm in Aspergillus awamori and its activity had an effect against 6 fungus species. Ailanthus altissima formed the greatest clear zone of 26 mm in Erwinia carotovora sub. sp. carotovora and had an effect agsinst 2 fungus species.
To evaluate nutritional values and to detect pharmacologically active and antibacterial components of wild edible plants in Korea, 20 species were examined. 1) The essential free amino acid compositions of these plants were determined by TLC. The plants contained threonine, leucine, valine and methionine. 2) In antibacterial tests of 17 species the plants Hemerocallis sp. and Plantago asiatica showed an antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus, Bacillus, Eschericia, and Salmonella species. 4) Rutin. quercitrin, $k\ddot{a}mpferol$, chlorogenic acid and caffeic acid were also identified.
