Ram pressure stripping of early-type galaxies has been largely neglected until now because of their gas poor nature. MUSE IFU observation vividly reveal the presence of star-forming blobs and ionised gas tails, around an early-type galaxy in Abell 2670. The galaxy was identified as a post-merger galaxy with disturbed faint features, in MOSAIC 2 deep optical images. The imaging also revealed a series of star-forming blobs, situated in the direction facing away from the cluster centre. Thanks to the revolutionary wide field-of-view of the MUSE, combined with 8.2-m VLT (UT-4) at Cerro Paranal, we could simultaneously obtain IFU spectra of the blobs, as well as the galaxy. The MUSE spectra clearly confirms that the star-forming blobs are associated with the early-type galaxy. Moreover, MUSE reveals long ionised-gas tails, emanating from the galaxy. The quantity of gas indicates a gas rich progenitor has merged with the early-type galaxy. However the direction of the tails and blobs, and the blob morphology, appears to indicate that strong ram-pressure stripping may have stripped out gas brought in by the merger. We will present kinematic structure of the whole system (the galaxy, star-forming blobs, and gas tails), as well as the star formation history of the system, supporting a scenario where a recent galaxy merger is subjected to cluster environmental mechanisms.
UV inspection technology is being used for predictive maintenance of power facility together with IR-thermography and ultrasonic devices. In this paper, the UV corona camera design, fabrication, and perform a simple test to be take advantage of the diagnostic equipment. The UV corona camera developed a $6.4^{\circ}{\times}4.8^{\circ}$ of the field of view as a conventional camera to diagnose a wide range of slightly enlarged, and power equipment to measure the distance between the camera and the distance meter has been attached. The transmission between 250 to 280nm was 11% ($12.5%{\times}88%{\times}98%$) by combing the transmission on absorption film, window and other filter(UG 5, nickel sulphate and so on). In a distance of 5m with the UV corona camera it is possible to detect partial discharge with a PD level of 2.5pC and a RIV level of $3.6dB{\mu}V$.
The FIMS (Far-ultraviolet IMaging Spectrograph; also known as SPEAR, Spectroscopy of Plasma Evolution from Astrophysical Radiation) is the primary payload of the STSAT-1, the first Korean science satellite, which was launched in September, 2003. The FIMS performs spectral imaging of diffuse far-ultraviolet emission with the unprecedented wide field of view and the relatively good spectral resolution. We present far-ultraviolet spectral observations of highly ionized interstellar medium including supernova remnants, superbubbles, soft X-ray shadows, and the molecular hydrogen fluorescent emission lines. The FIMS has detected He II, C III, 0 III, O IV, Si IV, O VI, and $H_2$ fluorescent emission lines. The emission lines arise in shocked or thermally heated and in photo-ionized gases. We present an overview of the FIMS instrument and its initial observational results.
UV-IR diagnostic technology is being used for predictive maintenance of high voltage equipment together with IR-thermography and ultrasonic devices. In this paper, the UV-IR camera design, fabrication, and perform a simple test to be take advantage of the diagnostic equipment. UV-IR camera developed a $6.4^{\circ}{\times}4.8^{\circ}$ of the field of view as a conventional camera to diagnose a wide range of slightly enlarged, and power equipment to measure the distance between the camera and the distance meter has been attached. In a distance of 5m with the UV-IR it is possible to detect partial discharge with a PD level of 2.5 pC and a RIV(Radio Influence Voltage) level of $3.6dB{\mu}V$.
To search for the quasars at z > 7 in early universe, we are developing a optical camera which has a $1k\times1k$ deep depletion CCD chip, with later planned upgrade to HAWAII-2RG infrared array. We are going to attach the camera to the cassegrain focus of Otto Struve 2.1m telescope at McDonald observatory of University of Texas at Austin, USA. We present the design of a hardware interface to attach the CCD camera to the telescope. It consists of focal reducer, filter wheel, and guiding camera. Focal reducer is needed to reduce the long f-ratio (f/13.7) down to about 4 for wide field of view. The guiding camera design is based on that of DIAFI offset guider which developed for the McDonald 2.7m telescope.

Hydrographic data including particulate organic carbon (POC) from the Northeastern Gulf of Mexico (NEGOM) study were used along with remotely sensed data obtained from NASA's Sea-viewing Wide Field-of-view Sensor (SeaWiFS) to develop POC algorithms to estimate POC concentration based on empirical and model-based principal component analysis (PCA) methods. In Case I and II waters empirical maximized simple ratio (MSR) and model-based PCA algorithms using full wavebands (blue, green and red wavelengths) provide more robust estimates of POC. The predicted POC concentrations matched well the spatial and seasonal distributions of POC measured in situ in the Gulf of Mexico. The ease in calculating the MSR algorithm compared to PCA analysis makes MSR the preferred algorithm for routine use. In order to determine the inter-annual variations of POC, MSR algorithms applied to calculate 100 monthly mean values of POC concentrations (September 1997-December 2005). The spatial and temporal variations of POC and sea surface temperature (SST) were analyzed with the empirical orthogonal function (EOF) method. POC estimates showed inter-annual variation in three different locations and may be affected by El $Ni{\tilde{n}}o/Southern$ Oscillation (ENSO) events.

We study the mid-infrared (MIR) properties of galaxies in compact groups and their environmental dependence using the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer data. We use a sample of 670 compact groups and their 2175 member galaxies with $M_r$ < -19 and 0.01 < z < 0.0741 from Sohn et al. (2016), which were identified through a friends-of-friends algorithm. We find that the MIR [3.4]-[12] colors of early-type galaxies in compact groups are on average bluer than those of early-type galaxies in clusters. Furthermore, we find that when compact groups have both early- and late-type member galaxies, the MIR colors of the late-type galaxies in those compact groups can be bluer than those of late-type galaxies in clusters. We also find that as background galaxy number densities of compact groups increase, compact group galaxies have higher early-type galaxy fractions and bluer MIR colors. These trends are also seen for background galaxies. However, at a given background density, compact group galaxies always have higher early-type galaxy fractions and bluer MIR colors than the background galaxies. Our findings suggest that the properties of compact group galaxies depend on both internal and external environments of the compact groups, and that galaxy evolution is faster in compact groups than in clusters.
This paper proposes a private display that can adjust viewing angles by using an electric-field-driven (EFD) LC Lens. The EFD LC Lens design and simulation were analyzed by using the Extended Jones Matrix Method. The conventional method for attaching a private film to the display was difficult. In order to solve this problem, in this study, by using the EFD LC Lens, we devised a method that can view images more conveniently. We analyzed the luminance and illumination of the optical viewing distance by using the Extended Jones Matrix Method. We also measured the intensity of the viewing angles. The simulation attached the EFD LC Lens to the 14" Full HD RGB stripe wide panel. We calculated the relative luminance distribution and the luminance distribution on the viewing angle of the image at the optimum viewing distance of 60 cm, using the EFD LC Lens and the lenticular lens. The proposed method could be used to design private displays that can adjust the viewing angle of the EFD LC Lens.
This paper propose a fuzzy inference model for map building and navigation for a mobile robot with an active camera, which is intelligently navigating to the goal location in unknown environments using sensor fusion, based on situational command using an active camera sensor. Active cameras provide a mobile robot with the capability to estimate and track feature images over a hallway field of view. In this paper, instead of using "physical sensor fusion" method which generates the trajectory of a robot based upon the environment model and sensory data. Command fusion method is used to govern the robot navigation. The navigation strategy is based on the combination of fuzzy rules tuned for both goal-approach and obstacle-avoidance. To identify the environments, a command fusion technique is introduced, where the sensory data of active camera sensor for navigation experiments are fused into the identification process. Navigation performance improves on that achieved using fuzzy inference alone and shows significant advantages over command fusion techniques. Experimental evidences are provided, demonstrating that the proposed method can be reliably used over a wide range of relative positions between the active camera and the feature images.
A water driven ejector loop was designed and constructed for air absorption. The used ejector was horizontally installed in the loop and annular water jet at the throat entrained air through the circular pipe placed at the center of the ejector. Wide range of water flow rate was provided using two kinds of pumps in the loop. The tested range of water flow rate was 100${\ell}$ /min to 1,000 ${\ell}$/min. Two-phase flow inside the ejector loop was simulated by CFD analysis. Homogeneous particle model was used for void fraction prediction. Water and air flow rates and pressure drop through the ejector were automatically recorded by using the LabView based data acquisition system. Flow characteristics and air bubble velocity field downstream of the ejector were investigated by two-phase flow visualization and PIV measurement based on bubble shadow images. Overall performance of the two-phase ejector predicted by the CFD simulation agrees well with that of the experiment.
