Environmental and energy issues have always been a hot topic of global research. Oil leakage has caused great damage to the environment, affecting a wide area and it is difficult to clean up. In most cases, carbon-based adsorbents are typically utilized to remove oil spills because of their economic benefits and high adsorbent efficiency. At the same time, its excellent material properties can also be used for the preparation of supercapacitors. In this paper, the carbon aerogels were prepared by the one-step method. The prepared materials endowed a 3D network structure with a huge number of micropores and mesoporous, and the material is light-weight, stable, hydrophobic and has affinity for oil (17.02 g/g) to the KGM carbon aerogel. Through the physicchemical characterization, the KGM carbon aerogel shows specific surface area is $689m^2/g$, high water contact angle ($136.64^{\circ}$) and excellent reusability (more than 15 cycle times). In addition, we also discussed the electrochemical properties of the material and obtained the specific electrical capacity of 139 F/g under the condition of 1 A/g.

Smart grid is a fully-automated, bi-directional, power transmission network based on the physical grid system, which combines sensor measurement, computer, information communication, and automatic control technology. Blockchain technology, with its security features, can be integrated with Smart Grids to provide secure and efficient power management and transmission. This paper dicusses the deployment of Blockchain technology in Smart Grid. It presents application areas and protocols in which blockchain can be applied to in securing smart grid. One application of each area is explored in detail, such as efficient peer-to-peer transaction, lower platform costs, faster processes, greater flexibility in power generation to transmission, distribution and power consumption in different energy storage systems, current barriers obstructing the implementation of blockchain applications with some level of maturity in financial services but concepts only in energy and other sectors. Wide range of energy applications suggesting a suitable blockchain architecture in smart grid operations, a sample block structure and the potential blockchain technicalities employed in it. Also, added with efficient data aggregation schemes based on the blockchain technology to overcome the challenges related to privacy and security in the smart grid. Later on, consensus algorithms and protocols are discussed. Monitoring of the usage and statistics of energy distribution systems that can also be used to remotely control energy flow to a particular area. Further, the discussion on the blockchain-based frameworks that helps in the diagnosis and maintenance of smart grid equipment. We have also discussed several commercial implementations of blockchain in the smart grid. Finally, various challenges have been discussed for integrating these technologies. Overall, it can be said at the present point in time that blockchain technology certainly shows a lot of potentials from a customer perspective too and should be further developed by market participants. The approaches seen thus far may have a disruptive effect in the future and might require additional regulatory intervention in an already tightly regulated energy market. If blockchains are to deliver benefits for consumers (whether as consumers or prosumers of energy), a strong focus on consumer issues will be needed.
The increasingly high prices for oil, the exhaustion of fossil fuels as well as concern about global warming are driving rapid growth of alternative sources of energy in the world. The active solution for global environment and exhaustion of energy sources is to develop and popularize the technologies to use natural energy such as sunlight, wind, and water. PV(Photovoltaic) modules are efficient devices that has been considered a logical material for use in buildings. Recent advanced BIPV(Building Integrated PV) technology have rapidly made PVs suitable for direct integration into construction in the world. Recently, building has been higher and higher. Tall buildings have many advantages for BIPV such as wide facade area and no shading effect by the surrounding buildings. However. BIPV has not been applied for tall building facade yet. Therefore, the purpose of the research is to develop suitable BIPV for tall buildings and to put these technologies to practical use. Therefore, the purpose of the study is to investigate unification of BIPV to curtain wall to apply BIPV on tall building through research into advanced application of overseas BIPV cases.

Transient security assessment(TSA) is becoming an essential requirement not only for security monitoring but also for stabilizing control of power systems under new electricity environments. It has already been pointed out that fast transient stability study is an important part for monitoring and controlling system security. In this paper, we discuss an energy function method for stabilizing control of transiently unstable systems by introducing generator tripping system to enhance the transient stability of power systems. The stabilization with less tripped power can be obtained by tripping the generators faster than out-of-synchronism relay. Fast transient stability assessment based on the state estimation and direct transient energy function method is an important part of the stabilizing scheme. It is possible to stabilize the transiently unstable system by tripping less generators before the action of out-of-synchronism relay, especially when a group of generator are going to be out-of-synchronism. Moreover, the amount of generator output needed for tripping can be decided by Transient Energy Function(TEF) method. The main contribution of this paper is on the stabilizing scheme which can be running in the Wide Area Control System.
TPSN(Timing-sync Protocol for Sensor Networks), the representative of time synchronization protocol, has been already developed to provide time synchronization among nodes in wireless sensor networks. Even though the TPSN's method has been referenced by so many other time synchronization schemes for resource-constrained networks like wireless sensor networks or low power personal area networks, it has some inefficiency in terms of power consumption and network-wide synchronization time (or called convergence time). The main reason is that each node in TPSN needs waiting delay to solve the collision problem due to simultaneous transmission among competing nodes, which causes more power consumption and longer network convergence time for a network-wide synchronization. In this paper an improved scheme is proposed by changing message exchange method among nodes. The proposed scheme not only shortens network-wide synchronization time, but also reduce collision traffic which lead to needless power consumption. The proposed scheme's performance has been evaluated and compared with an original scheme by simulation. The results are shown to be better than the original algorithm used in TPSN.

The possibility of whether the induced wind from a vehicle traveling on highway can be used in wind power generation has been verified through computational flow analysis. The bus which is presumed to accompany relatively strong and wide range of induced wind compared to passenger vehicles because of its wide frontal area has been set as the subject of research. In order to ensure the reliability of research, the flow analysis surrounding the bus on a flat road where median strip is not installed has been compared with a preceding research while the validity of grid system and interpretation method used in this research have been assured by a qualitative method. In case of the median strip type wind power generator system, because it has been verified that a strong streamwise wind speed (5 m/s) is derived from the contraction effect of flow passage between the bus and the median strip while maintaining a relatively consistent upwind wind speed (1.4 m/s) in vertical direction in the wake area after the bus passes by although the change of wind speed is intense, it was decided as having some possibility of wind power generation. In case of the traffic sign panel type wind power generator system installed at the upper top of highway, because the wind speed of 2 m/s level has been derived for a limited time only at a section equal to the length of the bus and a faint induced wind speed less than 0.5 m/s was shown at other regions, it was decided as having almost no possibility of wind power generation.

This paper proposes to increase the efficiency of energy in nodes, which rapidly drops during the transmission of the Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy (LEACH), through the use of dual-hop layered application in the sensor field. Along with introducing the dual-hop method in the data transmission, the proposed single-hop method for short-range transmission and multi-hop transmission method between the cluster heads for remote transmission were also introduced. Additionally, by introducing a partial multi-hop method in the data transmission, a single-hop method for short range transmission method between the cluster heads for remote transmission was used. In the proposed DL-LEACH, the energy consumption of the cluster head for remote transmission reduced, as well as increased the energy efficiency of the sensor node by reducing the transmission distance and simplifying the transmission route for short-range transmission. As compared the general LEACH, it was adapted to a wider sensor field.

We present a methodology to design energy-efficient data paths using FPGAs. Our methodology integrates domain specific modeling, coarse-grained performance evaluation, design space exploration, and low-level simulation to understand the tradeoffs between energy, latency, and area. The domain specific modeling technique defines a high-level model by identifying various components and parameters specific to a domain that affect the system-wide energy dissipation. A domain is a family of architectures and corresponding algorithms for a given application kernel. The high-level model also consists of functions for estimating energy, latency, and area that facilitate tradeoff analysis. Design space exploration(DSE) analyzes the design space defined by the domain and selects a set of designs. Low-level simulations are used for accurate performance estimation for the designs selected by the DSE and also for final design selection We illustrate our methodology using a family of architectures and algorithms for matrix multiplication. The designs identified by our methodology demonstrate tradeoffs among energy, latency, and area. We compare our designs with a vendor specified matrix multiplication kernel to demonstrate the effectiveness of our methodology. To illustrate the effectiveness of our methodology, we used average power density(E/AT), energy/(area x latency), as themetric for comparison. For various problem sizes, designs obtained using our methodology are on average $25\%$ superior with respect to the E/AT performance metric, compared with the state-of-the-art designs by Xilinx. We also discuss the implementation of our methodology using the MILAN framework.

The current study attempted to assess the environmental value of Geum-river estuary for rational management decision-making. To investigate the comprehensive properties of the Geum-river estuary, we applied the contingent valuation method based on multi-attribute utility theory. We surveyed a randomly selected sample of 400 and 600 households of the Geum-river estuary-neighboring area (Jeollabuk-do, Chungcheongnam-do), and other nation-wide large districts (except Jeollabuk-do, Chungcheongnam-do, and Jeju-do), respectively, and carried out person-to-person interviews with subjects on their willingness-to-pay for the estuary conservation and management program. Respondents, overall, accepted the contingent market system and were willing to contribute a significant amount, that is 1,497 won for the residents from the Geum-river estuary-neighboring area and 4,343 won for the residents from other nation-wide large districts on average, per household per year. These results implied that there were large difference between the two groups. The aggregate values of the Geum-river estuary for the estuary-neighboring area and other nation-wide large districts amount to 2.13 and 70.15 billion won, respectively, per year. This quantitative value deduced from the current study, could be a useful baseline fact for any decision-making process particularly in the establishment of management policies for the Geum-river estuary.

The market trends of automatic meter reading associated with smart water meters were investigated. Also, recent developments and field applications of key technology for automatic meter reading associated with smart water meters were analyzed. Smart water meters have been manufactured mostly in United States and Europe and have been expanded their business to Asia. Integrated water management system combining with the additional functions such as real-time consumption metering, cost notification, water conservation, leak detection, water quality monitoring, and flow control have been operated in automatic meter reading. Both water quality and quantity data measured from smart water meters and sensors were transferred to data concentration units through neighborhood area network, and then were transferred to integrated server through wide area network. The data transfer methods were determined by comprehensively considering urban scale, density of smart water meters, power supply and network topologies. Common data collection methods such as fixed network to data concentation units, vehicles drive by, people walk by, and drone fly by have been applied. The automatic meter reading associated with smart water meters are spread throughout the world, and both water and energy savings result in saving the money and reducing the greenhouse gases emission.
