  • Along with emergence of recent issues such as 'minimization of energy consumption' and 'natural environment and human health' amid the flow of requirements for nature-friendly architecture, attempts for boundary, which has a variety of possibilities as the intermediate territory between interior and exterior space of the architecture, have been pursued actively. On the ground of close relationships between urban area and architecture in a modern society, the boundary between interior and exterior is being exhibited in a wide variety of way of expressions, not as a single plane any longer. In line with this, researcher analyzed interior and exterior boundary according to its type targeting modern housing complex in Europe, and also investigated characteristics thereof. And, having provided the results as basic materials in order to seek amenity of local apartment houses and diversification of housing plan as well, the researcher intends to be of a help to bring physical changes in both building and exterior design, and also to give a new meaning in an environment-friendly aspect.

  • This study was performed to construct a geothermal data base about thermal conductivity of ground heat exchanger and thermal properties of grouting material which used to refill the borehole. We have acquired geothermal data sets from 39 sites over wide area of South Korea except to Jeju island. From data analysis, the range of thermal conductivity is $1.5{\sim}4.0$ W/mK. It means that thermal conductivity varies with grouting material as well as regional geology and ground water system.

  • The successful launch of the Fermi Gamma-Ray Space Telescope has led us into an entirely new era of high-energy astrophysics. The sensitivity of the Large Area Telescope (LAT) on the spacecraft is much higher than that of its predecessors. Furthermore, the data policy of LAT is completely open so that everyone can access the data. All these enable a wide variety of investigations. In order to utilize the golden opportunity at the early stage of this mission, we have established the Fermi Asian Network (FAN) in 2010. Since the establishment, we have carried out intensive investigations in both observational and theoretical aspect. In this talk, I will highlight the recent discoveries made by FAN with particular focus on pulsar astrophysics.

  • The Kyunggi Bay (125-l28E, 36-38N) is a macro-tidal bay in the western central port of Korean Peninsula(Fig. 1). The Bay characterizes its feature as wide tidal flats, deep tidal channels and tidal sand ridges running in parallel to tidal flows. The macro-tidal range (up to approximately 8.6m) and consequent strong tidal currents erode the bottom sediment and selectively transport to the low-energy area forming tidal ridges or tidal flats. • Delivery of high quality video over a wide area network with large number of users poses great challenges for the video communication system. To ensure video quality, multiple descriptions have recently attracted various attention as a way of encoding and visual information delivery over wireless network. We propose a new efficient multiple description coding (MDC) technique. Quincunx lattice sub-sampling is used for generating multiple descriptions of an image. In this paper, we propose the application of a directional discrete cosine transform (DCT) to a sub-sampled quincunx lattice to create an MDC representation. On the decoder side, the image is decoded from the received side information. If all the descriptions arrive successfully, the image is reconstructed by combining the descriptions. However, if only one side description is received, decoding is executed using an interpolation process. The experimental results show that such the directional DCT can achieve a better coding gain as well as energy packing efficiency than the conventional DCT with re-alignment.

  • It is required to reduce the cost of superconducting cable to realize a superconducting DC power network that covers a wide area in order to utilize renewable energy. In this paper a new concept of innovative cable is introduced that can enhance the current-carrying capacity even though the same superconducting tape is used. Such a cable can be realized by designing an optimal winding structure in such a way that the angle between the tape and magnetic field becomes small. This idea was confirmed by preliminary experiments for a single layer model cable made of Bi-2223 tapes and REBCO coated conductors. Experiments of three and four layer cables of practical sizes were also done and it was found that the current-carrying capacity increased as theoretically predicted. If the critical current properties of commercial superconducting tapes are further improved in a parallel magnetic field, the enhancement will become pronounced and this technology will surely contribute to realization of superconducting DC power network.

  • Carbon Nanotube have been proposed for use in various applications for electromechanical systems. Nano-electromechanical resonators which provide high frequency resolution and long energy storage time, play an important role in wide area fields of science and engineering. Using the control of tension in carbon nanotube, can be made the tunable resonator. In the study, we analysis the tunable frequency change of resonator by tension changes due to the rotation angles of the single-walled carbon nanotube resonator. The frequency characteristics of a resonator as a function of the rotation angle. The tension was found to decrease with increasing rotation angle, and therefore the resonance frequencies could be changed by controlling the single-walled carbon nanotube rotation angle. The resonance frequencies decreased with increasing angle, and when the rotation angle was greater than $60^{\circ}$, these changes were marked.

  • The electricity supply industry for which high stability and quality of power are the primary aim of power company and the first order of business target. As the facilities of generations, transmissions and substations are increased every year, power system becomes more complex and hard to control. The complexity of the power system causes harmful influence on its security and power facilities. Moreover, difficulty of predicting weather condition in these days with its complexity increases the level of uncertainty of energy demand. Wide area online monitoring of power system offers lots of informations and solutions which clear the causes of insecurity in power system. In this paper, we presents the development of synchrophasor data measurement and transmission system using satellite network for power system online monitoring.

  • The exploitation of the resource wind energy is a rapidly growing area world-wide. The number of installed units is continuously increasing, and therefore, it is important to respect and to deal with the impact of wind power generation system. From the view of an electric grid utility, there is a major problem with the impact of the wind system on the voltage of the electric grid, to which a turbine in connected. The problem is rather common in the connection of a wind power system to an already existing grid, since the grid is very seldom designed for the transmission of additional power. In this paper, it is investigated the voltage impact of distribution line, to which wind power generation system is connected.
