새만금간척지 사료작물 재배시 질소증비 효과 (Effects of Nitrogen Fertilization Increment on Forage Crops Cultivation in Saemangum Reclaimed Land)

  • 본 연구는 새만금간척지 (광활지구) 신간척지에서 조사료의 안정생산을 위하여 사료작물 재배시 질소 증비효과, 생육 및 수량성을 검토코자 2008년 10월부터 2009년 10월까지 수행하였다. 동계 사료작물로 청보리 (영양), 하계 사료작물로 옥수수(광평옥), 수수${\times}$수단그라스 (G7)를 재배하여 토양화학성, 양분흡수량, 생육 및 수량성을 검토하였다. 공시토양은 유기물, 유효인산 및 치환성칼슘 함량이 매우 적었고 치환성 마그네슘 나트륨 함량이 많은 강알칼리성 염류토양 이었다. 재배기간 동안 토양염농도 변화는 0.1%이하를 나타냈고 염피해는 없었다. 동 하계작물 경엽 및 곡실 중 무기양분 함량은 질소증비로 증가하는 경향을 나타냈으며 옥수수에서 높았다. 특히 청보리 무기성분 중 T-N, CaO, MgO 함량은 일반농경지에서 재배된 것에 비하여 2배정도 낮은 반면에 $P_2O_5$, $Na_2O$ 함량은 2배정도 높았다. 청보리는 질소증비로 초장이 길고 경수 확보가 많았으며 $10,740{\sim}13,170kg\;ha^{-1}$ 건물수량을 나타냈다. 또한 하계작물은 질소증비로 초장이 길고 경직경이 굵었으며 옥수수 $13,120{\sim}15,050kg\;ha^{-1}$, 수수${\times}$수단그라스 $14,400{\sim}19,440kg\;ha^{-1}$ 건물수량을 나타냈다. 결론적으로 간척지토양은 생산성을 향상시키고 양분균형을 이루기 위하여 종합적인 토양관리가 선행되어야 할 것으로 생각된다.

Evaluation of Feeding a Fibrolytic Enzyme to Lactating Dairy Cows on Their Lactational Performance during Early Lactation

  • Twenty eight multiparous lactating cows were utilized in an experiment to evaluate the response to an exogenous fibrolytic enzyme on their lactational performance during early lactation period (in terms of milk production, milk composition, feed intake, milking efficiency, body weight change) and the exact time of this response. Cows were randomized into two groups (14 each) with similar parities and were fed a concentrate ration of barley, ground corn, soybean meal, and wheat bran and roughage ration of alfalfa hay. One of the two groups was supplemented with the fibrolytic enzyme immediately after parturition up to 100 post partum. The experiment was of two phases with 50 days each. The enzyme, which has a cellulase/hemicellulase activity (derived from Trichoderma group), was added to the concentrate part of the ration in a dry powder form. Milk production, 3.5% fat corrected milk, energy corrected milk were higher (p<0.05) for cows fed treated diet. At the same time, No differences were observed in percentages of milk components, feed intake, body weight, body weight change, or rectal temperature for the whole experimental period or during any of the two phases. Efficiency of milk production was higher (p<0.05) for treatment group cows than for that of the control ones. However, efficiency was better during the second phase than during the first phase. Feeding enzyme treated diets to dairy cows improved lactational performance during early 100 day of the lactation period. However, the first 50 days of lactation looked to be the critical.

Effects of Different Oil Sources and Vitamin E in Breeder Diet on Egg Quality, Hatchability and Development of the Neonatal Offspring

  • Effects of polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) and vitamin E (VE) supplementation in the diet of breeder hens on the egg quality and hatchability, lipid peroxides of the egg yolk, and development of the newly-hatched offspring chicks were investigated. A total of 800 Avian 48, 28 wk-old broiler breeders were assigned randomly to 4 groups with 4 replicates of 45 females and 5 males. Each group was fed one of the following four diets with different oil sources and levels of VE: corn oil (CO), fish oil (FO), CO+VE and FO+VE. The results showed that: i) Addition of FO in the breeder diet reduced the whole egg weight, yolk weight, albumen weight, yolk color score and neonatal offspring chick body weight without affecting the hatchability as compared to the CO treatment. ii) Addition of VE efficiently reduced the lipid peroxides of egg yolk from hens fed diets containing FO. iii) VE in the breeder diet significantly promoted the development of liver and heart of the chick offspring.

An efficient microscopic technique for aleurone observation with an entire kernel cross-section in maize (Zea mays L.)

  • The aleurone layer in maize is crucial as it contains essential nutrients such as minerals, vitamins, and high-quality proteins. While most of the maize varieties are known to possess a single aleurone layer, several multi-aleurone layer mutants and landraces have been suggested for hierarchical genetic control of aleurone development. Conventional microscopy analysis often involves using immature seeds or sampling only a portion of the kernel sample, and whole kernel section analysis using a microtome is technically difficult and time-consuming. Additionally, the larger size of maize kernels posed challenges for comprehensive cross-sectional analysis compared to other cereal crops. Consequently, this study aimed to develop an efficient method to comprehensively understand the aleurone layer characteristics of the entire cross-section in maize. Through observations of diverse maize genetic resources, we confirmed irregular aleurone layer patterns in those with multiple aleurone layers, and we discovered a landrace having multiple aleurone layers. By selectively identifying genetic resources with multiple aleurone layers, this method may contribute to efficient breeding processes in maize.

Effects of harvest time and added molasses on nutritional content, ensiling characteristics and in vitro degradation of whole crop wheat

  • Objective: Wheat is an alternative to corn silage for ruminant feeding in northern China. This study examined the effects of harvest time and added molasses on nutritional content, ensiling characteristics and in vitro degradation of whole crop wheat (WCW). Methods: Fresh WCW at the milk-ripe stage was harvested at 0700 h (i.e., in the morning [Mo]) and 1700 h (i.e., in the afternoon [Af]), and then immediately used to prepare silage and make hay. Commercial molasses was added to Af WCW at 0%, 2%, 4%, and 6% (fresh weight) proportions. The WCW treated with molasses was mixed thoroughly prior to ensiling. Results: Dry matter (DM), neutral detergent fiber, water soluble carbohydrate (WSC) content (p<0.01), accumulative gas production in 72 h ($GP_{72h}$, 77.46 mL/g vs 95.15 mL/g) and dry matter disappearance in vitro (69.15% vs 76.77%) were lower (p<0.05), while crude protein (CP) content was higher for WCW silage (WCWS) compared to WCW (p<0.01). The propionic acid and butyric acid concentrations in WCWS from Mo WCW were 1.47% and 0.26%, respectively. However, the propionic and butyric acid concentrations were negligible, while the ammonia nitrogen/total nitrogen ($NH_3-N/TN$, p<0.01) concentration was lower and the rate of gas production at 50% of the maximum (17.05 mL/h vs 13.94 mL/h, p<0.05) was higher for Af WCWS compared to Mo WCWS. The incubation fluid's $NH_3-N$ concentration was lower in WCWS and Af WCW compared to Mo WCW (p<0.05). The CP and WSC content increased with increasing molasses levels (p<0.05). Furthermore, the pH (p<0.01) and time when gas production was 50% of the maximum (2.78 h vs 3.05 h, p<0.05) were lower in silage treated with 4% molasses than silage without molasses. Conclusion: Harvesting wheat crops in the afternoon and adding molasses at 4% level to WCW optimally improved ensiling characteristics, leading to well-preserved silage.

고품질 얼룩찰옥수수 신품종 '얼룩찰1호' (A Bicolor Waxy Corn Hybrid with High Eating Quality, 'Eolrukchal 1')

  • '얼룩찰1호'는 자식계통 KBW23을 종자친으로 하고 KW33을 화분친으로 하여 교잡된 단교잡종이며 알맹이가 흰색과 검정색의 두 가지 색을 가진 얼룩찰 옥수수이다. '얼룩찰1호'는 2003년 생산력검정시험을 거쳐, 2005년부터 2007년까지 3년 동안 전국 5개 지역에서 지역적응시험을 실시한 결과 그 우수성이 인정되어 2007년 농작물 직무육성 신품종으로 결정되었다. 이 품종의 주요특성을 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. '얼룩찰1호'의 출사일수는 76일로 만숙종이며 이삭길이가 18.4 cm로 '찰옥1호' 보다 길다. 2. '얼룩찰1호'의 아밀로펙틴 함량, 과피두께, 백립중 등은 '찰옥1호'와 비슷하였지만 경도는 낮았으며 전체적인 기호도는 우수하였다. 3. '얼룩찰1호'는 '찰옥1호'와 비교하여 깨씨무늬병, 그을음무늬병, 조명나방 등 병충해 저항성은 낮았으나 도복에는 강하였다. 4. '얼룩찰1호'의 ha당 이삭수는 '찰옥1호' 보다 적었지만 이삭중은 무거웠다. 5. '얼룩찰1호'의 모본 출사기와 부본의 화분 비산기간이 잘 일치하였으며 채종량은 모 부본 재식비율 3:1이 1,730 kg/ha으로 재식비율 2:1의 1,500 kg/ha보다 많았다. 6. '얼룩찰1호'는 제주도를 제외한 전국에서 재배가 가능하다.

옥수수 종실의 단백질함량 변이와 아미노산 조성 (Variation of Protein Content and Amino Add Composition of Maize Germplasms)

  • 옥수수 양질 품종을 육성하기 위한 기초 연구로서 옥수수 유전 자원과 주요 교잡종 100여 계통에 대하여 단백질 함량과 아미노산 조성을 검토하였다. 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 옥수수 유전 자원의 평균 단백질 함량은 11.5%로서 그의 문포범위는 8.0-17.3%이었다. 품종별로는 사료용 교잡종들의 단백질 함량이 9.1-11.4%이었고 찰옥수수 12.2%, 단옥수수 10.2%-13.9%이었으며 변경 opaque-2인 Qpm의 단백질 함량은 11.0%이었다. 2. 사료용 교잡종 수원 19호와 단옥수수 수원SS-2001 및 Qpm의 아미노산 조성은 대체로 glutamic acid와 leucine의 함량이 높았고 methionine은 낮았다. 품종에 따른 차이도 나타났는데 Qpm은 lysine 함량이 수원 19호나 수원 SS-2001에 비하여 1.4-1.7배 높았으며 단백가 72로서 수원 19호와 수원 SS-2001의 단백가에 비하여 높았다. 수원 SS-2001의 아미노산 조성은 수원19호와 Qpm과는 달리 threonine의 함량이 높았으며, 필수 아미노산의 총량도 많았다. 3. 분획 단백질의 양은 수원 19호와 수원 SS-2001에서는 zein이 각각 50.7%와 41.7%, glutelin이 26.8%와 30.8%이었던 반면 Qpm은 zein이 12.7%, glutelin이 55.2%, globulin 11.4%로서 zein의 함량이 낮았다. 4. 분획 단백질별 아미노산 조성에 있어서는 zein과 glutelin의 아미노산 조성은 품종간 큰 차이가 없었으나 globulin의 아미노산 조성은 Qpm과 수원 19호간 차이가 컸으며 특히 Qpm의 globulin의 lysine 함량은 10.2%로서 수원 19호에 비하여 4배 이상이었다. 5. 분획 단백질별 아미노산 조성 및 품종간 분획 단백질량을 비교하였을 때 Qpm의 opaque-2인자는 종실 단백질 중 zein함량을 억제하고 glutelin과 globulin을 증대시킴으로써 종실의 lysine함량을 증대시키는 것으로 나타났다.

Fruit and vegetable discards preserved with sodium metabisulfite as a high-moisture ingredient in total mixed ration for ruminants: effect on in vitro ruminal fermentation and in vivo metabolism

  • Objective: Our recent series of laboratory- and large-scale experiments confirmed that under aerobic and anaerobic conditions, sodium metabisulfite (SMB) was effective in preserving nutrients and antioxidant capacity of highly perishable fruit and vegetable discards (FVD). Hence, the purpose of this study was to examine how partial inclusion of SMB-treated FVD in total mixed ration (TMR) influences in vitro ruminal fermentation, whole-tract digestibility, nitrogen metabolism, blood metabolites, and voluntary feed intake of sheep. Methods: The FVD were mixed thoroughly with 6 g SMB/kg wet biomass and kept outdoors under aerobic conditions for 7 days. Four TMRs including four levels of SMB-treated FVD (as-fed basis) at 0%, 10%, 20%, and 30% (equaling to 0%, 1.9%, 3.8%, and 5.7% on dry matter basis, respectively), were prepared as replacement for corn grain. The ruminal fermentation metabolites were studied using an in vitro gas production test. Four mature male Corriedale sheep were assigned at random to the 4 diets for two separate sub-experiments; i) digestibility trial with four 21-d periods, and ii) voluntary feed intake trial with four 28-d periods. Results: Inclusion of SMB-treated FVD in the TMR tended to quadratically increase partitioning factor. No effect was seen on total-tract digestibility of organic matter, ether extract, crude protein, and acid detergent fiber, except for neutral detergent fiber digestibility that tended to linearly increase with increasing SMB-treated FVD in the TMR. The progressive increase of FVD preserved with SMB in the diet had no effect on nitrogen metabolism. Treatment had no effect on serum antioxidant capacity and blood metabolites assayed. Voluntary feed intake was not impaired by inclusion of SMB-treated FVD in the TMR. Conclusion: It appears that FVD preserved with SMB can be safely incorporated into TMR as replacement of corn grain without impairment of nutrient metabolism and feed intake.

재식밀도가 단옥수수의 이삭수, 이삭무게 및 조수입에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Plant Populations on the Number and Weight of Ear and Gross Income in Sweet Corn)

  • 단옥수수의 수량을 상품성 있는 이삭수, 이삭무게, 이삭크기별 시장가격을 적용한 조수입으로 평가하였을 때 이들 수량평가방법의 결과를 비교하기 위하여 단옥수수 품종 Golden Cross Bantam 70을 재식밀도(5,000, 6,000, 7,000, 8,000, 9,000주/10a)를 달리하여 0.3mm 투명 P.E. film 피복하에서 재배하였다. 출아후 30일과 44일에 초장과 분벽수를 조사하였고, 이삭조사는 출사후 25일에 수확하여 포엽을 제거한 후 이삭의 수, 크기, 무게를 조사하고 무게별 이삭수, 10a당 상품성 있는 이삭수, 이삭무게 조수입을 계산한다. 1. 초장, 간장, 착수고, 분벽수, 출사기는 재식밀도간에 차이가 없었으며, 수확기의 주간 엽면적지수는 1.1-1.9로서 재식밀도가 높을수록 증가하였다. 2. 상품성있는 이삭의 평균길이, 굵기, 무게와 포엽을 제거한 이삭무게가 150g 이상인 상품의 비율은 재식밀도가 높을수록 감소하였다. 3. 10a당 상품성있는 이삭수, 이삭무게 및 크기별 가격과 이삭수를 고려한 조수입은 재식밀도가 높을수록 증가하였으며, 이들간에는 고도로 유의한 정의 상관이있었다. 재식밀도가 높을때는 이삭수는 조수입보다 과대평가되었고, 이삭무게는 과소평가되었다. 4. 이삭을 수확한 후 경엽의 건물수량은 755-964kg/10a으로 7,000주/10a까지는 재식밀도가 높을수록 증가하였으며 건물함량은 20.7-24.5%이었다. 5. 흑조위축병 리병율은 10.6-15.0%이었으나 재식밀도간에는 차이가 없었다.

Effects of Phytase and Carbohydrases Supplementation to Diet with a Partial Replacement of Soybean Meal with Rapeseed Meal and Cottonseed Meal on Growth Performance and Nutrient Digestibility of Growing Pigs

  • An experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of microbial phytase ($Natuphos^{(R)}$) supplementation in combination with carbohydrases (composed of enzymes targeted to soybean meal (SBM) dietary components such as $\alpha$-galactosides and galactomannans; $Endo-Power^{(R)}$) to corn-soybean meal based diet (CSD) and complex diet (CD) with a partial replacement of SBM with rape seed meal (RSM) and cotton seed meal (CSM) on growth performance and nutrient digestibility of growing pigs. A total of 168 growing pigs averaging $13.18{\pm}1.77kg$ of initial body weight was arranged as a $2{\times}2$ factorial design with main effects of diet types (corn-SBM based diet (CSD) and complex diets (CD; 5% of SBM was replaced with 2.5% of RSM and 2.5% of CSM in diet for phase I (0 to 3 weeks) and 6% of SBM was replaced with 3% of RSM and 3% of CSM in diet for phase II (4 to 7 weeks))) and enzyme supplementation (none and 0.1% of phytase (500 FTU/kg diet) and 0.1% of carbohydrases). The diet with enzyme application were formulated to have a 0.18% unit lower aP than diets without enzyme application. Each treatment had three replicates with 14 pigs per replicate. To determine supplementation effect of phytase and carbohydrases on ileal amino acid digestibility of SBM, RSM and CSM, a total of 18 T-cannulated pigs (initial body weight; $13.52{\pm}1.24kg$) were assigned to six dietary treatments in the present study. Dietary treatments in metabolic trial included 1) SBM diet, 2) SBM diet+with enzymes (phytase (500 FTU/kg) and carbohydrases at 0.1%, respectively), 3) CSM diet, 4) CSM diet+enzymes, 5) RSM diet and 6) RSM diet+enzymes. During whole experimental period (0 to 7 wks), there was no difference in growth performance between diets (CSD and CD). However, dietary phytase and carbohydrases supplementation significantly improved gain/feed ratio (G:F) of growing pigs. During the phase II (4-7 weeks), dietary phytase and carbohydrases supplementation significantly improved all fecal nutrient digestibilities (Dry matter (DM), gross energy (GE), crude protein (CP), crude fat (CF), calcium (Ca) and phosphorus (P)). Dietary phytase and carbohydrases supplementation improved significantly overall ileal amino acid digestibilities of SBM, RSM and CSM based diets (p<0.05). The simultaneous inclusion of phytase and carbohydrases in both of CSD and CD reduced feed cost per kg body weight gain (FCG). Also, results suggest that 2.5 to 3% of RSM and CSM, respectively, might be used as a protein source in growing pig diets without having an adverse effect on the growth performance and nutrient digestibility and simultaneous phytase and carbohydrases addition improves nutritional value of SBM, RSM and CSM by improving ileal amino acid digestibilities.
