  • Environmental noise can degrade the performance of speech recognition system. This paper presents a procedure for performing cepstrum based feature compensation to make recognition system robust to noise. The approach is based on direct compensation of spectral tilt to remove effects of additive noise. The noise compensation scheme operates in the cepstral domain by means of calculating spectral tilt of the log power spectrum. Spectral compensation is applied in combination with SNR-dependent cepstral mean compensation. Experimental results, in the presence of white Gaussian noise, subway noise and car noise, show that the proposed compensation method achieves substantial improvements in recognition accuracy at various SNR's.

  • White LEDs(Light Emitting Diode) offer advantageous properties such as high brightness, improved reliability, lower power consumption, and long lifetimes. An LED is an electronic device that converts an electrical signal into a tight signal and is used not only in Optical Communication Indoor wireless optical illuminating rooms, but also for wireless optical communication systems. Currently, studies about these white LEDs have been being progressed, and in this raper, we discuss the multiplex and the multiple access method of VLC(Visible Light Communication) systems using white LEDs. In proposed system, CDMA(Code Division Multiple Access) apples to VLC system to reduce interference of VLC system, and improve capacity. The superiority of OOK modulation is presented in analysis of results by comparing VLC-CDMA communication system using OOK(On-off keying) modulation and BPSK modulation in AWGN(Additive White Gaussian Noise) channel and Diffuse channel. And we investigate the significance of a solution of interference by multipath by comparing BER in multipath channel and AWGN channel. In the proposed system, we assume Directed LOS(Line Of Sight) and Diffuse Link, and suppose VLC-CDMA using OOC(Optical Orthogonal Code) as methods to increase efficiency of system by removing ISI(Inter Symbol Interference) caused by multiple access, optical spreading code, and also present an analysis of its performance.

  • The non-linearity of HPA(high power amplifier) which is an important component in modern communications systems introduces AM/AM and AM/PM distortion so that the transmitted signal is deteriorated. And, the I/Q unbalances and phase error which are generated by non-ideal components are inevitable physical phenomena and lead to performance degradation when we implement a practical two-dimensional (2-D) modulation system. In this paper, we provide an exact and general expression involving the 2-D Gaussian Q-function for the error probabilities of arbitrary 2-D signaling with I/Q amplitude and phase unbalances in nonlinear additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channels by using the coordinate rotation and shifting technique.

  • The I/Q unbalance which is generated by non-ideal components such as a $90^{\circ}$ phase shifter and I/Q filters is an inevitable physical phenomenon and leads to performance degradation when we implement a coherent two-dimensional (2-D) modulation/demodulation system. This paper provides an exact and general expression for the SEP(symbol error probability) of DVB-S2 system with I/Q phase and amplitude unbalance over AWGN channel. Coordinate rotation and shift techniques used to redefine a received signal are key mathematical tools. In conclusion, the derived result is expressed as a linear combination of the 2-D Gaussian Q-functions.

  • In this paper, we present an exact and general expression involving two-dimensional Gaussian Q-functions for the bit error rate (BER) of hierarchical MPSK with I/Q phase and amplitude imbalances over an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel. First we derive a BER expression for the k-th bit of hierarchical 4, 8, 16-PSK signal constellations when Gray code bit mapping is employed. Then, from the derived k-th bit BER expression, we present the exact and general average BER expression for hierarchical MPSK with I/Q phase and amplitude imbalances. This result can readily be applied to numerical evaluation for various cases of practical interest in an I/Q unbalanced hierarchical MPSK system, because the one- and two-dimensional Gaussian Q-functions can be easily and directly computed usinB commonly available mathematical software tools.

  • This paper addresses the problem of signal acquisition with a sparse representation in a given orthonormal basis using fewer noisy measurements. The authors formulate the problem statement for randomly measuring with strong signal noise. The impact of white Gaussian signals noise on the recovery performance is analyzed to provide a theoretical basis for the reasonable design of the measurement matrix. With the idea that the measurement matrix can be adapted for noise suppression in the adaptive CS system, an adapted selective compressive sensing (ASCS) scheme is proposed whose measurement matrix can be updated according to the noise information fed back by the processing center. In terms of objective recovery quality, failure rate and mean-square error (MSE), a comparison is made with some nonadaptive methods and existing CS measurement approaches. Extensive numerical experiments show that the proposed scheme has better noise suppression performance and improves the support recovery of sparse signal. The proposed scheme should have a great potential and bright prospect of broadband signals such as biological signal measurement and radar signal detection.

  • Degradation is generated by several causes in the process of digitalization or transmission of data. And its essential cause is noise. Therefore, researches for wavelet-based methods which reconstruct signal degraded by noise have continued. In AWGN(addtive white gaussian noise) environment, the general trend for denoising is to use the thresholding method. Reconstructed signal includes a lot of noise because these methods only consider statistical characteristic regarding noise. In this paper, we present a new method which uses the cumulation of wavelet detail coefficients. As a result, reconstruction of edges and denoising performance are improved. Also we compare existing methods using SNR(signal-to-noise ratio) as the standard of judgement of improvemental effect.

  • Noise is generated by several causes, when signal is processed. Hence, it generates error in the process of data transmission and decreases recognition ratio of image and speech data. Therefore, after eliminating those noises, a variety of methods for reconstructing the signal have been researched. Recently, wavelet transform which has time-frequency localization and is possible for multiresolution analysis is applied to many fields of technology. Then threshold-and correlation-based methods are proposed for removing noise. But, conventional methods accept a lot of noise as an edge and are impossible to remove the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and the impulse noise at the same time. Therefore, in this paper we proposed new wavelet-based algorithm for reconstructing degraded signal by noise and compared it with conventional methods.

  • Induction motors play a vital role in aeronautical and automotive industries so that many researchers have studied on developing a fault detection and classification system of an induction motor to minimize economical damage caused by its fault. With this reason, this paper extracts robust feature vectors from the normal/abnormal vibration signals of the induction motor in noise circumstance: partial autocorrelation (PARCOR) coefficient, log spectrum powers (LSP), cepstrum coefficients mean (CCM), and mel-frequency cepstrum coefficient (MFCC). Then, we classified different types of faults of the induction motor by using the extracted feature vectors as inputs of a neural network. To find optimal feature vectors, this paper evaluated classification performance with 2 to 20 different feature vectors. Experimental results showed that five to six features were good enough to give almost 100% classification accuracy except features by CCM. Furthermore, we considered that vibration signals could include noise components caused by surroundings. Thus, we added white Gaussian noise to original vibration signals, and then evaluated classification performance. The evaluation results yielded that LSP was the most robust in noise circumstance, then PARCOR and MFCC followed by LSP, respectively.

  • The theoretical background and capabilities of the developed program, SAR-CWF, for stochastic analysis of 3D reinforced-concrete shear wall-frame structures subject to seismic excitations is presented. Incremental stiffness and strength properties of system members are modeled by extended Roufaiel-Meyer hysteretic relation for bending while shear deformations for walls by Origin-Oriented hysteretic model. For the critical height of shear-walls, division to sub-elements is performed. Different yield capacities with respect to positive and negative bending, finite extensions of plastic hinges and P-${\delta}$ effects are considered while strength deterioration is controlled by accumulated hysteretic energy. Simulated strong motions are obtained from a Gaussian white-noise filtered through Kanai-Tajimi filter. Dynamic equations of motion for the system are formed according to constitutive and compatibility relations and then inserted into equivalent It$\hat{o}$-Stratonovich stochastic differential equations. A system reduction scheme based on the series expansion of eigen-modes of the undamaged structure is implemented. Time histories of seismic response statistics are obtained by utilizing the computer programs developed for different types of structures.
