본 연구는 White Leghorn에서 부화 후 일령(0-d, 3-d, 7-d, 14-d 및 21-d)에 따른 소화기관의 발달과 기능 및 항산화 방어작용에 대한 변화를 조사하기 위해 실시하였다. 일령에 따른 체중은 부화 후 0, 3 및 7일령까지는 변화가 적었지만, 7일령 이후에는 유의하게(P<0.05) 증가하였다. 체중에 따른 소화 장기의 상대적 무게(g/100 g BW)에서, 간의 상대적 무게는 0일령에서 현저히 낮았지만 3~7일령에 현저히 증가한 후(P<0.05) 21일령까지 유의차 없이 점차 감소하였다. 상대적 췌장 무게 역시 간 무게의 변화와 유사한 경향을 보이며, 7일령에서 최대 발달을 보였지만(P<0.05) 그 이후에는 점차 감소하는 경향을 보였다. 상대적 소장 무게와 길이의 변화는 부화 후 급격히 증가하여 7일령에서 최대 성장을 보이고(P<0.05) 점차 감소하여 21일령 이후에는 현저히 낮아졌다. 소장 점막세포의 무게는 부화 후 현저히 증가하여(P<0.05) 14일령에 최대 발달률을 보였으나 21일령에는 감소하였다(P<0.05). 이당류 분해효소의 특이적 활성도는 0일령에 가장 낮았으나, 3일령에서 유의적으로 높은 최대 활성도 증가를 보였다(P<0.05). Sucrase 활성도는 14일령 이후 유의하게 감소하였으나(P<0.05), maltase는 지속적으로 높은 활성도를 유지하는 것으로 나타났다. Leucine aminopeptiase 특이적 활성도는 0일령부터 높게 나타나 일령에 상관없이 일정하게 유지되는 것으로 나타났다. SOD와 GST 특이적 활성도는 0일령에서 가장 낮았으나, 7일령 이후 유의적으로 높은 활성도를 보였다(P<0.05). GPX 활성도는 0, 7일령과 비교 시 14일령 이후 활성도가 현저하게 증가하였다(P<0.05). 지질 과산화(MDA) 함량은 모든 일령에서 매우 낮게 나타나 일령에 따른 차이가 없었다. 이상의 결과로 보아, White Leghorn 병아리는 부화 후 3~7일령에서 소화 장기 발달과 소화 효소 활성도가 급격히 증가하며, 7일령 이후 체 성장과 간 조직의 대사 작용이 활발해지면서 항산화 효소의 활성도가 함께 증가하는 것으로 나타났다.

The aim of this study is to find out what inhibition effects the Germinated Seed of Rhynchosia Volubilis(GSRV) has by its feeding period on the bone absorption in ovariectomized white rats. Close examination of the amounts of the Interleukin-6 in the rats by the groups of one, two and three-day germination periods led to the following conclusions. Feeding ovariectomized white rats with GSRV by the groups of one, two and three-day germination periods showed less amounts of Interleukin-6 in their bone marrow in all the feeding periods of two, three and four weeks than in the case of control group, revealing a statistical significance. Therefore, the Germinated Seed of Rhynchosia Volubilis(GSRV) is believed to have inhibition effects on bone resorption.

Hen egg-white lysozyme was conjugated with 7~9 mers xyloglucan hydrolysates(MW-1,400) at 6$0^{\circ}C$ and 79% relative humidity for 3 days. SDS-PAGE showed that the conjugation between lysozyme and the oligosaccharide began from 1-day incubation, and three molecules of carbohydrate chains were attached to a protein molecule after 30day incubation. The enzymatic activity of lysozyme was totally conserved in the neoglycoprotein, when measured by using glycol chitin as substrate. Besides, the emulsifying properties of lysozyme were vastly improved by the conjugation with the oligosaccharide, in which emulsifying activity of the neoglycoprotein was five times higher than that of native one.

This study was carried out to evaluate the quality of soybean sprouts grown under three different sources of light. The soybean was germinated under light through blue (251 ux), red (751 ux) and white (50 to 200 lux) polyethylene films at 25$^{\circ}C$ for 10hr./day. Vitamin C, chlorophyll, cellulose and total protein contents were determined and texture was evaluated by tasting soybean sprouts soup. protein pattern in the soybean sprouts were investigated using polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Vitamin C, chlorophyll and cellulose contents were increased by white light intensity. The texture of the sprouts grown under white light (50 lux, 100 lux) was better than darkness, but fought under 200 lux. Vitamin C contents of soybean sprouts grown under various sources of light (in order of light : blue > white > red) were higher than theses of ones grown in the darkness. Biosynthesis of chlorophyll was not correlated to Vitamin C content. Total protein contents of cotyledon was not changed significantly under light irradiation. But the soybean sprouts grown under different quality of light, hypocotyl was higher than those grown darkness. (37% and 20% higher for blue light and white light) Densitometric tracing of disc polyacrylamide gel electrophoretic patterns showed that protein of hypocotyl under white light had more high molecular weight protein.

We present the case of a patient with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) encephalitis who developed abnormal white matter lesions during the chronic phases of the infection. A 2-year-old-boy was admitted for a 2 day history of decreased activity with ataxic gait. The results of the physical examination were unremarkable except for generalized lethargy and enlarged tonsils with exudates. Brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) at admission showed multiple high signal intensities in both basal ganglia and thalami. The result of EBV polymerase chain reaction (PCR) of the cerebral spinal fluid was positive, and a serological test showed acute EBV infection. The patient was diagnosed with EBV encephalitis and recovered fully without any residual neurologic complications. Subsequently, follow-up MRI at 5 weeks revealed extensive periventricular white matter lesions. Since the patient remained clinically stable and asymptomatic during the follow-up period, no additional studies were performed and no additional treatments were provided. At the 1-year follow-up, cranial MRI showed complete disappearance of the abnormal high signal intensities previously seen in the white matter. The patient continued to remain healthy with no focal neurologic deficits on examination. This is the first case of asymptomatic self-limited white matter lesions seen in serial MRI studies in a Korean boy with EBV encephalitis.

We report septicemic colibacillosis accompanied by white-spotted kidney in a 30-day old female Holstein-Friesian dairy calf. Grossly, there were numerous white spots sized average 0.5cm in diameter in both kidneys. When sectioned sagittally, there were radially oriented gray streaks extending outward and reaching the renal cortex. The renal papillae were ulcerated, white to gray in color and very friable. Histologically, there was extensive purulent inflammation characterized by severe neutrophilic cellular infiltrations in the tubular lumens and interstitia. In addition, massive coagulative necrosis were found in the apices of papillae. Numerous Gram-negative bacterial colonies were detected in both of the renal and lung tissues. Beta-hemolytic Escherichia coli (E. coli) was purely isolated from the renal parenchyma, peritoneal surface and pleural surface. Based on the above results, we suggest that the generalized septicemia with pyelonephritis may be oriented from the lower urinary tract infection with E. coli in this case.

A new spray chrysanthemum cultivar 'Pure Angel' was released by National Institute of Horticultural and Herbal Science (NIHHS), Rural Development Administration (RDA), Korea in 2007. The cross was made in 2004 between 'Innocence', a breeding cultivar of NIHHS, and 'Baeksokuk', a spray cultivar with white petals. Trials were conducted from 2005 to 2007 for the evaluation and selection of this cultivar, including shade cultures in summer and retarding cultures in autumn. The natural flowering time of 'Pure Angel' is late October, but year-round flowering is possible by photo-periodic control. The cultivar has single type flowers with pure white petals and a green flower center. It shows long vase life and resistance to white rust. The diameter of flower is 52.5 mm. The numbers of flowers per stem and petals per flower are 12 and 22.5, respectively. Days to flowering under the short day treatment is about 52 days in spring seasons.

Sixteen clinically healthy New Zealand white rabbits of either sex were divided into two equal groups I and II of 8 animals each. Under thiopental sodium (2.5%) anaesthesia a linear full thickness abdominal wall defect of 3 cm in length was created and repaired with continuous suture pattern using 3000 filaments of carbon fibres and 1~0 black braided nylon suture, ingroup I and II respectively. Increased vascularity was observed in carbon fibres (group I) and on day 30 the carbon fibres were covered by white fibrous tissue. Significantly higher (P < 0.05) values of glucose was seen on day 14 in group I, whereas, decrease in glucose value was observed in group II. Histopathologically, the carbon fiber implant induced extensive fibrous tissue (collagen fiber) reaction. Negligible inflammatory cells in the stroma indicate the host tissue tolerance to carbon fibers. Histochemically, gradually increased alkaline phosphatase activity up to day 14 in group I, suggested the proliferation of fibroblasts in early stages.

We studied the nectar secretion of the Japanese Camellia (Camellia japonica L.), an evergreen tree and observed its floral visitors during the day. The mean volume of nectar secreted, during daylight (08:31 to 16:30 h) was 30.26$\pm8,29ml$ (SD) (n = 27). During the late afternoon and overnight (16:31 to 08:30 following day), 100.54$\pm54.85$(n = 27) of nectar was secreted. Total volume measured when flowers were sampled once every two hours for an eight-hour period was approximately one-half the volume which was measured when the flowers were sampled only once after eight hours. The mean nectar volume secreted was 8.55$\pm8.3ml$(n = 30) between 08:31 to 10:30, 4.38$\pm$6.1 ml (n = 30) between 10:31 to 12:30, 4.6$\pm5.4ml$(n = 30) between 12;31 to 14:30, and 4.02$\pm3.5ml$(n = 30) between 14:31 to 16:30 hours. During the day, Japanese Camellia flowers were principally visited by the Japanese white-eye (Zosterops erythropleura erythropleura 5.), a native bird, although insects and squirrels also visited to a lesser degree.

The purpose of this study is to design neckties that are motivated by Christmas symbol images that have been known to public most widely in the basis of Day marketing so as to develop the competitive commodities closed to consumers' emotion in the fashion industry. As a method of this study were to use Adobe Illustrator CS2, which is one of the vector graphic programs, to present the motif design such as Santa Claus, trees, presents and letters among Christmas symbols, and are to apply to neckties by giving a change with striped pattern, all over pattern and one point pattern. The results are as follows; Firstly, Santa Claus image was expressed by color contrast with red and white, which was perceived by red, green and white that are mostly used in Christmas. Secondly, tree images are expressed abstractly with color contrast where red and green are contrasted, and color way change was given for symbol color of Christmas. Third, in the image of gift, the image of share and image of colorfulness were considered for expression by making motifs of three dimensional hexahedron shape. Fourthly, in the image of type, motif was expressed by giving a change in horizontal and vertical writing types.
