  • The authors have studied the marginal leakage of various dental cements; Fynal cement (Caulk), Zinc cement (S.S. White) Carbo cement (Shofu, Poly-carboxylate cement), EBA cement (Opotow alumina cement), Propac (G-C's zinc oxide euginol cement), and Super cement (Shofu oxyphosphate zinc cement), by means of penetration of 2% methylene blue solution between orden crown restorations and human teeth in 150 cases. The result revealed as follow 1. None of the cements tested were free from dye penetration. 2. There was a wide difference in dye penetration among the trade brands of dental cement when immersed in dye solution before setting of cements. 3. EBA cement and Carbo cement showed comparatively low grade of dye penetration at the restorative margins.

  • In this paper, we have investigated the characteristics of the magnetic abrasive using sludge on polishing of internal finishing of seamless stainless steel (STS304) tube applying magnetic abrasive polishing. Either white alumina (WA) or green carborundum (GC) grain was used to resin sludge at a low temperature, and the sludge of magnetic abrasive powder was synthesized and crushed into 200 meshes. Surface roughness was measured before and after polishing, and more than 40% of improvement of surface roughness was achieved when WA grain was used under a specific condition. Even though some degree of surface roughness due to deeper scratches still exist, but the result showed a prospective magnetic abrasive polishing using sludge with WA or GC grains.

  • The magnetic polishing is the useful method to finish using magnetic power of magnet. This method is one of precision polishing techniques and has an aim of the clean technology using for the pure of gas and inside of the clean pipe for transportation. The magnetic abrasive polishing method is not so common for machine that it is not spreaded widely. There are rarely researcher in this field because of non-effectiveness of magnetic abrasive. Therefore, in this paper deals with development of the magnetic abrasive using worthless mineral. In this development, abrasive grain WA and GC used to resin bond fabricated low temperature. And magnetic material was fabricated from the worthless mineral which were closed into 200 mesh grit type. The XRD analysis result show that only WA and GC abrasive and worthless mineral crystal peaks detected which explains resin bond was not any more chemical reaction. From SEM analysis it is found that WA and GC abrasive and worthless mineral were strong bonding with each other by bond.

  • An alkaloidal component was extracted from the root of Aconitum koreanum R. $R_{AYMOND}$ of the commercial origin. Crude extract was obtained in ca. 2% yield out of dried root with ether-methanol (10:1). White amorphous compound was precipitated out from the HCl solution upon the addition of ammonia water, and crude base was obtained by extraction of its mother liquid with chloroform. This crude base was purified by the alumina-column chromatographic method. A pure alkaloidal component(500mg) was yielded from its crude base. Its pure base comes as needle crystals melting at $250{\sim}252^{\circ}C$ (decomp.), $[\alpha]^{20}_D$ D+9.82 (methanol) and Anal. calcd. for $C_{19}H_{27}O_{8}N$.

  • A method for preparing "reagent" for radioactive methyliodide vapors production using an isotopic exchange reaction has been developed. Based on the obtained data of the isotopic exchange efficiency and hydraulic resistance, white fused alumina (700-840 ㎛) was selected as the carrying agent material for "reagent" production. The radioiodine isotopic exchange dependences on such parameters as temperature, gas flow velocity, and the methyliodide concentration in it were determined. Optimal conditions have been selected to achieve 85% of the isotopic exchange rate in 1 h of the experiment. The obtained data allowed to develop an approach to the test of iodine filters for nuclear power plants and to determine their efficiency.

  • Twelve Punchong sherds collected in Hakbongni, Kongju where the well known iron-painted on white slip were manufactured from late 15C to early 16C were analyzed for their composition and microstructure. The composition of the body was analyzed by X-ray fluorescence and that of glaze by electron probe micro-analyzer. Microstructure was observed by optical microscope, polarizing microscope, EPMA, and X-ray diffractometer. The results of composition of body and glaze of Hakbongni were compared with those of Punchong from Yongsuri, Boryong which was close to Hakbongni. The composition of body and glaze of these two areas were compared by principal component analysis using SPSS program. Hakbongni bodies have higher silica and flux materials but lower alumina and their glaze have higher silica, soda, iron oxide but lower alumina, calcia. Hakbongni punchong itself is divided into two groups. Their glaze is lime type. There are many remnant minerals, such as quartz, large feldspar mass with partially melted surrounding area, albite, biotite, and iron-oxide. From such a microstructure we can assume that preparation of raw material was rather crude and firing temperature quite low. Iron-painted material is identified as Mg/Fe/Al spinel by composition analysis and XRD pattern.

  • Red clay has been used for making rakuyaki for the past 400 years. Because the resources for red clay in Japan are being depleted, many potters in Japan began to develop new materials which can replace red clay. In this study, It is analyzed that the chemical and physical properties of red clay from Shigaraki (Shiga, Japan), and developed a novel engobe which can be used for making Rakuyaki instead of Shigaraki red clay. Results from Raman spectroscopic examination showed that ferric oxide content in Shigaraki red clay is 9.4 % (Goethite 5 %, Wustite 4.4 %), and that the mechanism of red color development by the firing at $900^{\circ}C$ for 10 min is the chemical transformation of Goethite into Hematite, and the subsequent formation of solid solution with Alumina and Silica. To make similar ferric oxide content to that of Shigaraki red clay, we added 5 g of Goethite and 9 g of Wustite to 100 g of White kaolin from Hadong area (Gyeongsangnam-do, Korea). The $L^*a^*b^*$ color scale of the mixture was 56.83, 27.22, and 23.28, respectively, and stable red color was successfully developed under the same firing condition used for Shigaraki red clay.

  • Noise is not only affecting the ear and the auditory cortex locally, but its influence is widely spread throughout the brain structures, e. g., the reticular formation, the brain stem nuclei or the subcortical forebrain area. Hence, any of the organism's activities can be hindered or stimulated by noise. High noise is a stressor and the catecholamine level can be used both as a stress marker and as an indicator of modified sympathetic nervous system activity. Several recent studies have found that the urinary excretion of catecholamines is increased due to high noise intensity, especially unexpectedly high and long lasting noise. The present study was conducted in order to examine the effects of noise stress on urinary excretion of ctecholamines in rats and humans. Rats were exposed to 90 dB noise for 10, 30, and 60 minutes, 3 and 12 hours. 24 hour . urinary samples were collected and the catecholamones were extracted by alumina and analyzed by HPLC-ECD. Catecholamine levels increased with time of exposure up to 60 minutes : norepinephrine concentration at 60 min of noise=1.038 ng/ml, epinephrine=0.636 ng/ml. Urine catecholamines of blue collar workers exposed to 90 dB of noise at the work place were collected between 2 and 4 p.m. and compared to that of white collar workers exposed to 70 dB. Mean norepinephrine level of the blue collar workers was 0.89 ng/ml (${\pm}0.25$), epinephrine 0.24ng/m1 (${\pm}0.09$), and that of the white collar workers 0.48 ng/ml (${\pm}0.12$), epinephrine 0.19 ng/ml(${\pm}0.05$). It was concluded that noise acts as a stressor and increases the catecholamine levels in both rats and humans.
