  • This research notes dramatic increase of wheelchair usage along with rapidly aging population and handicapped people in Korea. Differentiated from existing electronic wheelchairs, we invented an electronic wheelchair that is collapsible even when the battery is installed and a guardian can ride along with a patient, It is also easy to put in a small space such as car trunks. We simulated to wheelchair body for Stress, Strain, fatigue Analysis. Additionally, we improved stoic design to be preferable for patients. The model ensures there's neither abrupt acceleration nor sudden stop and lastly, is much cheaper than other imported models.

  • With the recent acceleration of an aging society, the use of wheelchairs is increasing, and wheelchair accidents are also increasing. However, despite this situation, the domestic wheelchair market is lacking in deveolpment of additional functions to prevent wheechair collisions and falls. Therefore, this paper aims to design and implement intelligent smart wheelchairs equipped with functions such as stair wheels and automatic illumination sensor headlights that allow wheelchairs to automatically avoid obstacles, notify interlocking applications when falls are detected. Accordingly, it is expected to increase the convenience of wheelchair users and prevent frequent wheelchair accidents.

  • [Purpose] This study aimed to investigate the effects of leucine-enriched essential amino acid (LEAA) supplementation on muscle fatigue and the level of inflammatory cytokines in wheelchair basketball players after a basketball game and interval training. [Methods] Of the ten recruited wheelchair basketball players (aged 34.5±8.9 years; lean body mass of 34.3±10.0 kg) who had spinal cord injury (SCI) and had undergone amputation, nine participated in the final test. These nine athletes received LEAA supplements (3 times 4.0 g/day) or placebo treatment in a double-blind, randomized, crossover study. We measured variables related to muscular fatigue and inflammatory response before the intense exercise and 4 days after recovery. [Results] The significant effect of LEAA supplementation was inhibition of circulating IL-6 levels in the LEAA-treated group compared with the placebo group (P < .05). However, no changes were observed in the TNF-α and creatinine kinase levels. Moreover, analysis of variance analysis showed no significant difference in the relative values of muscle soreness. However, the effect size analysis with Cohen's d reported a significant improvement in the relative values of whole body and back muscle soreness. [Conclusion] Our results revealed that LEAA supplementation before and after intense exercise could help reduce muscle soreness and IL-6 levels in wheelchair basketball players.

  • The traction drive have a high power transmission efficiency and small size, a light weight, a low noise. So it is expected that alternative drive part of engine. Because it is necessary stillness that essential condition of drive part used moving tool in a room, it has many-sided in field of application. This traction drive is better suitable than other speed reducer as drive part of electric wheelchair. Also it is sufficiently necessary capacity of existing advanced product as apply traction drive to electric wheelchair.

  • We propose an electric wheelchair that is suitable for the upper-limbs disabled with sufficient operability and low expenses. Features of this wheelchair, 1) By instating a simple mechanical module, existing electric wheelchairs can be readily converted to a special version for the upper-limbs disabled. 2) The electric wheelchair can be freely operated by motion of a head. 3) A vision system to assure safety operation by the disabled is introduced.

  • We developed electric wheelchair INMEL-VI which is motorized wheelchair for practical use. The field test results of long time show some problems to disabled in daily use. INMEL-VII is designed to solve the problems of INMEL-VI and to adjust condition by the Korean Industrial Standards about the motorized wheelchair. Especially, it is improved to have durability, driving safety, and convenience of manipulating. In the driving field test in indoors and outdoors, it has been estimated to have a high practical use for powered walking aids to disable's daily life.

  • The objective of this paper is to develop a powered wheelchair controller based on EMG for users with high-level spinal cord injury. EMG is very naturally measured when the user Indicating a certain direction, and the force information which will be used for the speed of wheelchair is easily extracted from EMG. Furthermore, the emergency situation based on EMG will be checked relatively ease. We classified the pre-defined motions such as rest case, forward movement, left movement, and right movement by Fuzzy Min-Max Neural Networks (FMMNN). This classification results shows the feasibility of EMG as an input interface for powered wheelchair. To make the system low cost and small size, we developed EMG AMP and its controller ...

  • In this paper, the feasibility of a wheelchair carrier for the disabled own driver is checked kinematically to fit one of current domestic vans by drawings, design. A van with 9 passengers is selected for the modification to attach the wheelchair carrier and test the operation in real situation. The trajectory and motion process are studied to protect from the interception with outside body of van, and the conceptual design is proceeded kinematically. For the detail design, the stress analysis and driving mechanism with power supply must be studied and selected basically.
