  • Background: Social status might be a determinant of occupational health inequalities. This study analyzed the effects of social status on both work environments and health outcomes. Methods: The study sample consisted of 27,598 wage employees aged 15 years and older from among the Korean Working Condition Survey participants in 2011. Work environments included atypical work, physical risks, ergonomic risks, work demands, work autonomy, social supports, and job rewards. Health outcomes comprised general health, health and safety at risk because of work, the World Health Organization-5 Well-being Index, work-related musculoskeletal disease, and work-related injury. Multivariable logistic-regression models were used to identify the associations between social status and work environments and health outcomes. Results: Employees in the demographically vulnerable group had lower occupational status compared with their counterparts. Low social status was largely related to adverse work environments. Especially, precarious employment and manual labor occupation were associated with both adverse work environments and poor health outcomes. Conclusion: Precarious and manual workers should take precedence in occupational health equity policies and interventions. Their cumulative vulnerability, which is connected to demographics, occupational status, adverse work environments, or poor health outcomes, can be improved through a multilevel approach such as labor market, organizations, and individual goals.

  • A provision of spatial information is expected to make a market explosion in various fields. A distribution of spatial data on wireless mobile environments indicates a huge expansion of mobile technology as well as a spread of geospatial applications. For high-qualified spatial information, the 4S technology Project that is integrating four kinds of spatial systems is currently being executed with the goal of nationwide integration of spatial data and spatial information systems. In terms of network environments, a mobile ad hoc network where mobile terminals communicate with each other without any infrastructures has been standardized for the next generation mobile wireless network. With respect to the future technologies for spatial information, it is necessary to design 4S applications on mobile ad hoc networks. This paper addresses the issue, which is proposing design concepts for distributing 4S spatial data on mobile ad hoc networks and for ad hoc styled 4S applications.

  • Purpose: With the interest and ability in recruitment, it is totally worthy to discover how is labor market developed in Vietnam since the existence of the Internet. Considering employers as well as recruiters similar to jobseekers in term of technology adoption of job distribution, they should be treated fairly while performing their scopes of work. This paper aims to explore how employers perceive online recruiting platform as a supportive system, and this is to find out contributions of external factors regarding Job Boards behavioral intention to use. Research design, data and methodology: Conceptual framework tests the hypotheses involving in recruitment websites. Results: The results suggest that Board of Directors (BoD) or direct middle managers need to pay more attention on how their workforce performs through various channels of recruitment - both formal and informal, such as Linkedin or Facebook rather than a few compulsory job boards - no longer being accessed with high performance expectancy. However, the technology adaptation of recruitment is still a controversial issue due to its access to privacy of users. Conclusion: Therefore, employers should be more careful on how their personal contacts are going to be delivering without consent. Secondly, keeping systems up to date and "connected" is essential for both employees and employers.

  • As an alternative to solving safety, environments, and aging problems, ADS (Automated driving system) in the global automotive market is actively being developed as a new growth industry. In time for the appearance of ADS, relevant regulations and assessment programs must also be developed. For example, safety standards for the Level 3 automated driving system were promulgated in December 2019 by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of Korean government. However, assessment programs such as KNCAP for autonomous functions of ADS have not yet been introduced in Korea as well as globally. The autonomous driving functions of ADS at Level 3 or higher must be capable to recognize, judge and respond to objects and events in a wide variety of complex situations. In this paper, we examined and studied the complex situations, considerations and assessment items that ADS must respond to in the interest of safety for passengers, pedestrians and other road users. We hope this paper will be helpful to develop an execution program in the future.

  • As a sales volume of autonomous vehicle continually grows up, regulations on this new technology are being introduced around the world. For example, safety standards for the Level 3 automated driving system was promulgated in December 2019 by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of Korean government. In order to promote the development of autonomous vehicle technology and ensure its safety simultaneously, the regulations on the automated driving systems should be phased in to keep pace with technology progress and market expansion. However, according to SAE J3016, which is well known to classify the level of the autonomous vehicle technologies, the description for classification is rather abstract. Therefore it is necessary to describe the automated driving system in more detail in terms of the 'Level.' In this study, the functions and characteristics of automated driving system are carefully classified at each level based on the commentary in the Informal Working Group (IWG) of the UN WP29. In particular, regarding the Level 4, technical issues are characterized with respect to vehicle tasks, driver tasks, system performance and regulations. The important features of the autonomous vehicles to meet Level 4 are explored on the viewpoints of driver replacement, emergency response and connected driving performance.

  • Shear connectors are key elements that ensure integrity in a composite system. The primary purpose of a shear connector is to bring a high degree of interaction between composite elements. A wide variety of connectors are available for hot-rolled composite construction, connected to the beam through welding. However, with cold-formed members being very thin, welding of shear connectors is not desirable in cold-formed composite constructions. Shear connectors for cold-formed elements are limited in studies as well as in the market. Hence in this study, three different types of shear connectors, namely, single-channel, double channel, and self-tapping screw, were considered, and their performance assessed by the Push-out test as per Eurocode 4. The connection between channel shear connectors and the beam was made using self-tapping screws to avoid welding. The performance of the connectors was analyzed based on their ultimate capacity, characteristic capacity, ductility, and slippage during loading. Strength to weight ratio was also carried out to understand the proposed connectors' suitability for conventional ones. The results showed relatively higher initial stiffness and ductility for double channel connectors than other connectors. Also, self-tapping screws had a higher strength to weight ratio with low ductility.

  • Although mostly used in wind turbine market, single rotor wind turbines have problems with transportation and installation costs due to their large size. In order to solve such problems, multi-rotor wind turbine is being proposed; however, light weight design of multi-rotor wind turbine is required considering the installation at offshore or deep sea. This study proposes the systematic design process of the multi-rotor wind turbine focused on its supporting structure with simultaneous consideration of static and dynamic behaviors in an ideal situation. 2D and successive 3D topology optimization process based on the density method were applied to minimize the compliance of supporting structure. To realize the conceptual design obtained by topology optimization for manufacturing feasibility, the derived 3D structure was modified to have shell structures and optimized again through parametric design using the design of experiments and the response surface method for detail design of their thicknesses and radii. The resultant structure was determined to satisfy the stress and the buckling load constraint as well as to minimize the weight and the resultant supporting structure were verified numerically.

  • In this paper we expand on the notion of "integration" in terms of the variety of ways in which it would manifest itself in business education. Our main argument is that "integration" is multidimensional and has been manifest in pedagogy, research and service dimensions of university programs for a long time. However, assessments of "integration" efforts have been spotty thus far and only recently are being formalized. We present several examples in business curriculum and with increased focus on formal assessments of "integration" efforts, business education will become more pragmatic. The goal of this paper is to unpack the broad construct of "integration," and discuss its historical and current manifestations in business education. Ultimately, we conclude that while the process of integrative thinking is well underway for a long time in business education, the assessment of outcomes of integrative thinking is just taking root through formal ETS tests. We believe that integrative thinking in business education is an ultimate indicator of the effectiveness of the business curriculum, as students skilled in this area will be best prepared for the real-life jobs in the market place.
