Materials Integrity Analysis for Application of Hyper Duplex Stainless Steels to Korean Nuclear Power Plants

  • Hyper duplex stainless steels have been developed in Korea for the purpose of application to the seawater system of Korean nuclear power plants. This system supplies seawater to cooling water heat exchanger tubes, related pipes and chlorine injection system. In normal operation, seawater is supplied to heat exchanger through the exit of circulating water pump headers, and the heat exchanged sea water is extracted to the discharge pipes in circulating water system connected to the circulating water discharge lines. The high flow velocity of some part of seawater system in nuclear power plants accelerates damages of components. Therefore, high strength and high corrosion resistant steels need to be applied for this environment. Hyper duplex stainless steel (27Cr-7.0Ni-2.5Mo-3.2W-0.35N) has been newly developed in Korea and is being improved for applying to nuclear power plants. In this study, the physical & mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of newly developed materials are quantitatively evaluated in comparative to commercial stainless steels in other countries. The properties of weld & HAZ (heat affected zone) are analyzed and the best compositions are suggested. The optimum conditions in welding process are derived for ensuring the volume fraction of ferrite(${\alpha}$) and austenite(${\gamma}$) in HAZ and controlling weld cracks. For applying these materials to the seawater heat exchanger, CCT and CPT in weldments are measured. As a result of all experiments, it was found that the newly developed hyper duplex stainless steel WREMBA has higher corrosion resistance and mechanical properties than those of super austenitic stainless steels including welded area. It is expected to be a promising material for seawater systems of Korean nuclear power plants.

  • In this study, CT specimens were prepared hem ASTM SA516 which was used for pressure vessel plates for room and low temperature service. And we got the following characteristics from fatigue crack growth test carried out in the environment of room and low temperature at $25^{\circ}C$, -3$0^{\circ}C$, -6$0^{\circ}C$, -8$0^{\circ}C$, -l$0^{\circ}C$ and -l2$0^{\circ}C$ and in the range of stress ratio of 0.1, 0.3 by means of opening mode displacement. At the constant stress ratio, the threshold stress intensity factor range $\Delta K_{th}$ in the early stage of fatigue crack growth ( Region I ) and stress intensity factor range $\Delta$K in the stable of fatigue crack growth ( Region II) was increased in proportion to descend temperature. It assumed that the fatigue resistance characteristics and fracture strength at low temperature is considerable higher than that of room temperature in the early stage and stable of fatigue crack growth region. The straight line slope relation of logarithm da/dN - $\Delta$K in Region II, that is, the fatigue crack growth exponent m increased with descending temperature at the constant stress ratio. It assumed that the fatigue crack growth rate da/dN is rapid in proportion to descend temperature in Region H and the cryogenic-brittleness greatly affect a material with decreasing temperature.

루츠형 중진공펌프 국산화 개발 (Development of Localized Roots Type Medium-Vacuum Pump)

  • Due to a roots type medium vacuum pump is operated in condition of $1{\sim}10^{-3}$ torr vacuum, it could be applied for production and process of industrial parts, such as precise processing, vaporization, enrichment, separation, casting, metaling, welding, transportation. Therefore, the demand of this pump is increasing nowadays in our industrial markets of semiconductor, electric, electronic, automobile, material, environmental and transporting industries. However, the pumps are almost imported, because the domestic pumps are inferior in fields of vacuum range as under $10^{-1}$torr, relevant techniques(design, fabrication, casting, test, etc.) to the imported ones. In this study, essential parts of the development pump are designed with using of CFD and 3D decodes, FEM for analysing strength and deformation, generated heat, vibration and noise control, and are casted with using of mechanochemistry techniques for decreasing of weights, increasing of heat resistances and abrasion durability of materials for pump caing and impellers especially. Besides, in order to achieve ultimate vacuum around $10^{-3}$torr, this pump is composed of 6 stages, among which 1st stage is operated separately from remained stages. Additionally, a test rig for prototype pumps(300$m^3/h$ and 2,500$m^3/h$) is designed and procured as to apply for multi-staged rootz type vacuum pump, with modification of the test method recommended by KS B 6314 "Positive-displacement oil-sealed rotary vacuum pumps".

  • In this sutdy, a new class ACA(Anisotropic Conductive Adhesive) with low-melting-point alloy(LMPA) and self-organized interconnection method were developed. This developed self-organized interconnection method are achieved by the flow, melting, coalescence and wetting characteristics of the LMPA fillers in ACA. In order to observe self-interconnection characteristic, the QFP($14{\times}14{\times}2.7mm$ size and 1mm lead pitch) was used. Thermal characteristic of the ACA and temperature-dependant viscosity characteristics of the polymer were observed by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) and torsional parallel rheometer, respectively. A electrical and mechanical characteristics of QFP bonding were measured using multimeter and pull tester, respectively. Wetting and coalescence characteristics of LMPA filler particles and morphology of conduction path were observed by microfocus X-ray inspection systems and cross-sectional optical microscope. As a result, the developed self-organized interconnection method has a good electrical characteristic($2.41m{\Omega}$) and bonding strength(17.19N) by metallurgical interconnection of molten solder particles in ACA.

무인기용 레큐퍼레이터 소재의 용접부에 대한 고온 피로수명 예측 (High Temperature Fatigue Life Prediction for Welded Joints of Recuperator Material for UAV)

  • 본 논문은 경량 및 고효율 레큐퍼레이터를 구성하는 0.1 mm 이하의 두께를 지닌 전열판의 용접부에 대한 실험적 연구이다. 특히 해당 용접부에 대한 수명을 알아내기 위해 고온환경에서 피로특성을 실험을 통하여 알아내기로 하였다. 실험은 레큐퍼레이터의 소재로 주로 선정되는 두가지 재질에 대해 (STS347, AL20-25+nb) 실시하였으며, 시편은 실제 제작에 사용되는 방법과 ASTM에서 권고하는 규격을 준용하여 제작하였다. 그리고 상온과 고온에서 해당 시료의 기계적 특성을 평가하고자, 기계적 물성치를 시험하는 MTS-810 과 고온환경을 부여하기 위한 고온로를 이용하였다. 시험은 각 시편에 대해 상온 및 고온 환경에서 인장시험을 실시하였으며, 나타난 인장강도의 50%, 40%, 30%, 20% 그리고 10% 에 해당하는 하중을 응력비 0.1로 설정하여 피로시험을 시행하였다. 마지막으로 실험을 통해 나타난 피로수명 특성을 레큐퍼레이터의 운전조건에서 발생하는 하중에 따르는 응력과 비교하여 무인기 시스템이 요구하는 운전시간에 대비하여 해당 용접부들의 수명을 평가하였다.

천장 브래킷형 모듈러 시스템의 브래킷 길이와 볼트에 따른 내진성능평가 (Seismic Performance Evaluation of the Ceiling Bracket-type Modular System with Various Bracket Lengths and Bolt Types)

  • In regard to modular systems, new methods, as well as middle and high-story unit design ideas, are currently being studied. These studies need to focus on the enhanced stiffness and seismic performance of these connections, and see that the development of fully restrained moment connections can improve the seismic performance. For this reason, this study evaluates the performance of the connections of the ceiling bracket-typed modular system through repeated loading tests and analyses. In order to compare them with these modular units, new unit specimens with the bracket connection being different from that of the traditional modular unit specimens were designed, and the results of repeated loading tests were analyzed. In the traditional units, the structural performances of both welding connection and bolt connection were evaluated. In regard to the testing results, the initial stiffness of the hysteresis curve was compared with the theoretical initial stiffness, and the features of all specimens were also analyzed with regard to the maximum moment. In addition, the test results were examined with regard to the connection flexural strength of the steel special moment frame specified under the construction criteria KBC2016. The connections, which were proposed in the test results, were found to be fully restrained moment connections for designing strong column-weak beams and meeting the requirements of seismic performance of special moment frames.

원자로압력용기용 SA508 Gr.4N Ni-Mo-Cr계 저합금강 용접열영향부의 용접후열처리에 따른 미세조직과 기계적 특성 평가 (Evaluation of Microstructure and Mechanical Properties on Post-Weld Heat Treatment in the Heat Affected Zone of SA508 Gr.4N Ni-Mo-Cr Low Alloy Steel for Reactor Pressure Vessel)

  • The heat-affected zone (HAZ) of SA508 Gr.4N Ni-Mo-Cr low alloy steel, which has higher Ni and Cr contents than SA508 Gr.3 Mn-Mo-Ni low alloy steel, was investigated on the microstructure and mechanical properties. The HAZ was categorized into seven characteristic zones (CGCG, FGCG, ICCG, SCCG, FGFG, ICIC and SCSC-HAZ) according to the peak temperature from the thermal cycle experienced during multi-pass welding. Post Weld Heat Treatment (PWHT) was conducted in the temperature range of $550{\sim}610^{\circ}C$ for 30 hours to evaluate the effect of PWHT conditions on the microstructure and mechanical properties. Before PWHT, CGHAZ and FGFGHAZ showed high yield strength (YS) ranging from 1000 to 1250 MPa, while YS of SCSCHAZ decreased from 607 MPa (observed for base metal) to 501 MPa. The Charpy impact energies of sub-HAZs fell below 100J at $-29^{\circ}C$, except in the SCSCHAZ. By applying PWHT to sub-HAZ specimens, YS decreased as the PWHT temperature increased. In the case of CGHAZs and FGFGHAZ heat-treated at $610^{\circ}C$, YS dropped drastically to the range of 654~686 MPa. From the Charpy impact test, the upper-shelf energy (USE) increased to approximately 250J and Index temperature ($T_{68J}$) decreased below $-50^{\circ}C$. Specifically, in FGFG, ICIC and SCSC-HAZ, $T_{68J}$ was below -110, which was lower than the case of base metal.

저온 분사를 이용한 Cu계 비정질 코팅층의 제조 및 특성 연구 (Fabrication and Characterization of Cu-based Amorphous Coatings by Cold Spray Process)

  • Cu based amorphous ($Cu_{54}Zr_{22}Ti_{18}Ni_6$) coating was produced by cold spraying as a new fabrication process. The microstructure and macroscopic properties of amorphous coating layer was investigated and compared with those of cold sprayed pure Cu coating. Amorphous powders were prepared by gas atomization and Al 6061 was used as the substrate plate. X-ray diffraction results showed that Cu based amorphous powder could be successfully deposited by cold spraying without any crystallization. The Cu based amorphous coating layer ($300{\sim}400{\mu}m$ thickness) contained 4.87% porosity. The hardness of Cu based amorphous coating represented $412.8H_v$, which was correspond to 68% of the hardness of injection casted bulk amorphous material. The wear resistance of Cu based amorphous coating was found to be three times higher than that of pure Cu coating. The 3-point bending test results showed that the adhesion strength of Cu based amorphous coating layer was higher than that pure Cu coating. It was also observed that hard Cu base amorphous particle could easily deform soft substrate by particle collisions and thus generated strong adhesion between coating and substrate. However, the amorphous coating layer unexpectedly represented lower corrosion resistance than pure Cu coating, which might be resulted from the higher content of porosity in the cold sprayed amorphous coating.

저항 점 용접된 TRIP590강의 계면파단특성에 관한 평가 (Evaluation of Resistance Spot Weld Interfacial Fractures in Tensile-Shear Tests of TRIP 590 Steels)

  • The resistance spot welding of TRIP590 steels was investigated to enhance understanding of weld fracture during tensile-shear strength (TSS) test. The main failure modes for spot welds of TRIP590 steels were nugget pullout and interfacial fracture. The peak load to cause a weld interfacial failure was found to be related to fracture toughness of the weld and the weld diameter. Although interfacial fracture occurred in the samples, the load carrying capacity of the weld was high and not significantly affected by the fracture mode. Substantial part of the weld exhibits the characteristic dimple (or elongated dimple) fractures on interfacial fractured surface, in spite of the high hardness values associated with the martensite microstructures. The high load-bearing ability of the weld is directly associated with the area of ductile fracture occurred in weld. Therefore, the judgment of the quality of resistance spot welds in TRIP590 steels, the load carrying capacity of the weld should be considered as an important factor than fracture mode.

상하 이형 다이아프램으로 보강된 2심 냉간성형 각형 CFT 기둥-보 접합부의 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on Two-Seam Cold Formed Square CFT Column to Beam Connections with Asymmetric Diaphragms)

  • 콘크리트 충전강관 기둥은 우수한 구조성능에도 불구하고 폐단면이라는 특성 상 내다이아프램 형태의 접합부 제작이 어려워 시공성에 다소 문제가 있다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 미리 내다이아프램이 설치된 ㄷ형태의 부재 두 개를 용접하여 각형강관을 제작하는 방법을 제안한다. 접합부의 상부 다이아프램은 수평플레이트를, 하부는 수직 플레이트를 사용하였다. 본 연구는 제시된 접합부의 구조적 성능을 평가하기 위해 접합부 상 하부를 6개의 단순인장 실험과 실대 크기인 2개의 T형 기둥-보 접합부에 대해 반복가력 실험을 수행하였다. 단순인장 실험에서의 주요변수는 상부 다이아프램의 형태와 가력방향이며 하부 다이아프램은 수직 플레이트의 두께와 구멍 개수이고, 실대형 접합부의 변수는 가력방향이다. 실험결과 모서리 절삭형태는 큰 영향이 없었으며 강축방향이 약축방향보다 초기강성이 16~24% 높았다. 수직 플레이트의 구멍개수와 두께가 증가함에 따라 최대내력이 각 약 5% 증가하였다. 실대형 T형 접합부의 가력축에 따른 내력 차이는 크지 않았으며 보의 전소성모멘트에 도달할 때까지 안정적인 거동을 나타냈다.
