In this study, GTAW was carried out on austenitic STS316 stainless steel. Overlay welding with the stellite-base filler metal was implemented using a double torch. The response variable was calculated on the measured Vickers hardness for process optimization using the Taguchi method and its response variable was then analyzed about effect on overlay welding characteristics. The optimal process design by the Taguchi method is extremely effective in the overlay welding process for the multiple response variables. In addition, the effects of contribution rate about each response variable was analyzed easily. The conditions of the optimal process were 105A, 18V, pre-heat treatment at $200^{\circ}C$, and post weld heat treatment at $100^{\circ}C$. The Vickers hardness of the specimens produced under the optimal condition of GTAW by the double torch was 8.19% higher than that by a single torch.
Quality estimation of the weld has been one of the important issues in RSW which is a main process of the sheep metal fabrication in auto-body industry, It was well known that among the various welding process variables, dynamic resistance has a close relation with nugget formation. With this variable, it is possible to estimate the weld quality in real time. In this study, a new quality estimation algorithm is developed with the primary dynamic resistance measured at welding machine timer. For this, feature recognition method of Hopfield neural network is used. Primary resistance patterns are vectorized and classified with five patterns. The network trained by these patterns recognizes the dynamic resistance pattern and estimates the weld quality Because the process variable monitored at the primary circuit is used, it is possible to apply this system to real time application without any consideration of electrode wear or shunt effect.
MIG brazing is used for many parts without melting base metal because of high productivity. Pulsed MIG brazing can be used to further reduce heat input and to improve the process stability. However, a significant amount of zinc in galvanized sheet steel is burned off in the area of brazes. Therefore, the brazing method to reduce the heat input is needed. In the brazing for galvanized sheet steel, variable polarity AC pulse MIG arc brazing can be applied to more decrease the heat input by setting EN-ratio adequately. In this research, we studied for the variable polarity AC pulse MIG arc brazing to decrease the heat input by using ERCuSi-A wire. As the result of increasing EN-ratio, melting ratio of base metal and burning off of zinc were reduced in galvanized sheet steel.

Dissimilar material friction welding such as STD11 and SCM440, we are considering of such things as strength and tenacity of welding interface, which consist of friction welding rotation frequency, friction heating pressure, upset forging-pressure, friction heating time, and upset forging-pressure time. From the study, obtaining the interrelationship between welding condition and quality(toughness, tenacity), we can set the best range of welding condition. while performing acoustic emission examination for the nondestructive evaluation, we can deduce the interrelationship among total acoustic emission counts, friction welding variable, and quality during friction welding, which can solve the manufacturing difficulty and enhance the economic value.

Welding characteristics of austienite 304 stainless and SM45C using a continuous wave Nd:YAG laser n experimentally investigated Laser beam welding is increasingly being used in welding of structural steels. The laser welding process is one of the most advanced manufacturing technologies owing to its high speed and deep penetration. The thermal cycles associated with laser welding are generally much Inter than those involved in conventional welding processes, leading to a rather small weld zone. Experiments are performed for 304 stainless steel plates changing several process parameter such as laser power, welding speed, shielding gas flow rate, presence of surface pollution, with fixed or variable gap and misalignment between the similar and dissimilar and plates, etc. The Nd:YAG laser welding process is one of the most advanced manufacturing technologies owing to its high speed and penetration. This paper describes the weld ability of SM45C carbon steel for machine structural use by Nd:YAG laser. The follow conclusions can be drawn that laser power and welding speed have a pronounced effect on size and shape of the fusion zone. Increase in welding speed resulted in an increase in weld depth/aspect ratio and hence a decrease in the fusion zone size. The penetration depth increased with the increase in laser power.

Reduction of weld distortions and increase in productivity are some of the major goals of the shipbuilding industry. To address these issues, many researchers have attempted to apply new welding processes. In the shipbuilding industry, steel is the candidate material of choice owing to its good weldability. However, conventional welding techniques are not feasible for avoiding welding problems. Tip-rotating arc welding is one of the high-efficiency welding process that has several advantages, such as high welding speed, high melting rate, low heat input, and less distortion. The present study investigates the influence of the welding variables on the weld characteristics of tip-rotating arc welding. Welding was performed using EH36 as the base metal and SM-70s as the filler metal, which are widely used in shipbuilding. Basic experiments were conducted to understand the effects of the major welding variables, such as welding and tip-rotating speeds. The distortion and mechanical properties of the optimal welding conditions were used to evaluate the tip-rotating arc welding performance. Consequently, the feasibility of the tip-rotating arc welding process for joining steel components was investigated, so that the optimized welding conditions could be applied directly to ship body welding to enhance the quality of the welded joints.
Friction welding is a very useful joining process to weld metals which have axially symmetric cross section. In this paper, for the friction welding with tube-to-tube shape, the feasibility of industry application was determined using analyzing mechanical properties of weld and optimized welding variables was suggested. In order to accomplish this object, rotating speed, friction heating pressure, and friction heating time were selected as the major process variables and the experiment was performed in three levels of each parameter. Weld characteristic was investigated in terms of weld shape and metal loss, and 7mm of metal loss was regarded as the optimal metal loss. By tensile test, tensile strength and yielding strength was measured and fracture was occurred at base metal. In order to optimize the welding condition, fitness function was defined with respect to metal loss and yielding strength and the fitness values for each welding condition could be calculated in experimental range. Consequently, we set the optimal welding condition as the point which had maximum value of fitness function. As the result of this paper the optimal welding variables could be suggested as rotating speed was 1300 rpm, friction heating pressure was 15 MPa, and friction heating time was 10 sec.

The purpose of this study is to propose a method to decide near-optimal settings of the constant current fuzzy control parameters using a controlled random search. This method tries to find the near-optimal settings of the constant current fuzzy control parameters through experiments. It has an advantage of being able to carry out searches in the search domain which includes some irregular points. The method suggested in this study was used to determine the fuzzy control parameters by which the desired welding current were formed during inverter DC resistance spot welding. The output variable was the ITAE (integral of time multiplied by the absolute error). This output variable was determined according to the input variables, which are the GE, GDE, and GDU. This study described how to obtained near-optimal welding current condition over a wide search space conducting a relatively small number of experiments.
It was studied that two plates of aluminum can be welded by extru-riveting experiments with extru-rivet welding dies, and that the welding strength and metal flow on the welding section were analyzed by computer simulation according to the welding variable such as the diameter of extrusion insert dies. It was known by computer simulation that welding strength on the welding section of plates could be influenced by the diameter of extrusion insert dies. And it was known by experiments that two plates of aluminum can be welded on a spot point on aluminum plate by extru-rivet welding process, and that welding strength is higher and higher if the diameter of extrusion insert die is smaller and smaller, and that welding strength is the highest when diameter of extrusion insert dies is ${\emptyset}4.2$mm in the case that the diameter of rivet is 5 mm, when aluminum 5052 two plates with 1.5 mm thickness and one plate with 3mm thickness for rivet plate are used as welding material.
