  • This paper is a report of a simulation study that investigates a dynamic approach to scheduling jobs in a conventional shop floor, especially in an assemoly-type welding process. We consider both JIT arrival and JIT delivery. Various dispatching rules are tested for the following performance measures; mean flow time, rate of tardy jobs, mean tardiness, sum of mean tardiness and mean earliness. The results indicate that SPT rule is the best for the mean flow time. MSLACK that we suggest in this paper, is the best for the mean tardiness and the sum of mean tardiness and mean earliness. However, it is not clear that which rule is the best for the rate of tardy jobs.

  • Three-dimensional transient keyhole profile is numerically analyzed for the case of stationary laser keyhole welding. Volume of fluid (VOF) method is adopted to track the free surface of molten metal based on the three governing equations which are continuity, momentum and energy equations. Multiple reflections of laser beam at the keyhole walls are also included in analysis through a real-time ray tracing technique. In this simulation, especially, polarization of laser is considered as an energy absorption mechanism following the Fresnel reflection theory. Both cases of linearly and circularly polarized beam are simulated and compared. The results show that the theoretically generated keyhole is asymmetrically stretched along the direction of polarization which is already observed experimentally before.

  • In case of the welding process, a conventional production method of gate valve, it has a merit of light weight, but also a demerit of high production cost and an impossibility in mass production due to work by hand. However, in case of the forging process, it has economic merits and can take a mass production process, too. The main focus of this paper is the optimization of preform in the forging process. This paper proposed an optimal design to improve the mechanical efficiency of gate valve made by forging method instead of welding. the optional design is conducted as application of real response model to Kriging model using computer simulation. Also, from verification of the response model with optimized results we were confirmed that the applications of Kriging method to structural optimum design using finite element analysis and equation are useful and reliable.

  • In general there are many degrees of freedom(DOFs) in industrial robots. So they have many poses of several special end-effectors positions and orientations. For that reason, industrial robots are used in a wide scope of industrial applica-tions such as welding, spray painting, deburring, and so on. In this research, an off-line continuous path planning method based on linear interpolation with parabolic blend is developed. The method safely maintains the constant orientation for base frame and end-effectors path within allowable error and minimizes the number of segments in path. This algorithm may apply to welding and painting in which the orientation is particularly significant. The simulation study of cartesian curve is carried out to show the performance of this algorithm.

  • This paper presents a new self organizing fuzzy linguistic control (SOFLC) strategy for application to an arc welding process control. The proposed SOFLC is based on on-line modification of the control rules according to the extent of deviation of the one step ahead predictive output of the process from the desired output. The Predictive output of the process is estimated by a fuzzy predictor which is updated from the input and output data of the process. The rule base of the fuzzy subsets describing the control rules is modified by the improving mechanism based on the hill climbing approach. Simulation results show that this proposed SOFLC improves the response of the process in presence of the variation of the process dynamic characteristics.

  • To develop design and evaluation technologies of automotive seat frames, structural analysis and fatigue tests have been performed. Under the back moment loading condition, the numerical simulation yielded the maximum stress over the yield strength at the side frame bracket. To measure the stresses under the test condition, strain gauges were attached on some weakest points of the side frames. the measured strains are in good agreements with the CAE results. On the other hand, fatigue tests have been performed using the side frame bracket specimens made of various welding types to estimate their durabilities. From the fatigue test results and the analysis ones, it was recommended that the welding position of the bracket should be moved upward.

  • Some of the pressurized reactor pressure vessels used in many chemical plants are made of low alloy carbon steel plates internally clad with an austenitic stainless steel for improved anti-corrosion properties. In this study, metallurgic structure of the weld interface of A 387 Grade12Class1 low alloy carbon steel claded with A182-F321 austenitic stainless steel after thermal exposure simulation heat treatment was investigated to display a characteristic behavior of dissimilar metal weld interface with thermal exposure during service at high temperature and pressure. EPMA, STEM, vickers-hardness test were performed and the results were correlated with the microstructure. To estimate the depth of the carburized/decarburized bands quantitatively, a model for carbon diffusion was proposed. The validity of the proposed theoretical relationships was confirmed by the directly measured data from the welded parts failed during service.

  • This paper proposes an adaptive control method of partially known system and shows its application result to control for two-wheeled WMR. The controlled system is stable in the sense of Lyapunov stability. To design a tracking controller for welding path reference, an error configuration is defined and the controller is designed to drive the error to zero as fast as desired. Moments of inertia of system are considered to be unknown system parameters. Their values are estimated using update laws in adaptive control scheme. The effectiveness of the proposed controller is shown through simulation results.

  • In the present study, depressions of the GMA weld pool due to the impact of droplet are numerically investigated. The numerical simulation is conducted on the basis of the Navier-Stokes equation and the volume of fluid(VOF) functions. The kinetic energy of transferring droplet makes a depression of the weld pool surface. The surface active element affects the depression of the weld pool. The droplets transferred efficiently to the bottom of the weld pool, along with electromagnetic force make the finger shape penetration at the high current GMAW.

패키지 유형에 따른 솔더접합부의 열피로에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Thermal Fatigue of Solder Joint by Package Types)

  • Solder joint is the weakest part which connects in mechanically and electronically between package body and PCB(Printed Circuit Board). Recently, the reliability of solder joint become the most critical issue in surface mounted technology. The solder joint interconnection between plastic package and PCB is susceptible to shear stress during thermal storage due to the mismatch in coefficient of thermal expansion between plastic package and PCB. A general computational approach to determine the effect of solder joint shape on the fatigue life presented. The thermal fatigue life was estimated from the engelmaier equation which was obtained from the temperature cycling loading($-65^{\circ}C$ to $150^{\circ}C$). As result of the simulation, TSOP structure has the shortest thermal fatigue life and the same structure Copper lead has 2.5 times as much fatigue life as Alloy 42 lead. In BGA structure, fatigue life time extended 80 times when underfill material exists.
