Automation of Fatigue Life Assessment for Welded Cruciform Joint (십자형 필렛용접부의 피로수명평가 자동화 연구)

  • For the rational design of welded joint, it is needed to assess repeatedly the fatigue life of the joint with various dimensions and welding conditions. In this paper, an automation of repeated process of fatigue life assessment for welded cruciform joint was studied. The process is related to stress analysis in vicinity of weld-toe and fatigue life assessment based on analyzed stress distribution. With the change of design condition including dimensions and/or welding heat input, the above two works have to be performed. Using the commercial tool for system integration, ModelCenter, an automation of the repeated process for welded cruciform joint based on 2D modeling was achieved. In this automation system, data exchanges between programs regardless of commercial or in-house one work well, and parametric studies for optimal design can be performed.

Real-time estimation of arc stability in GMAW process (GMAW 공정에서 아크 안정성의 실시간 측정)

  • Arc must be stable during welding first of all other factors for obtaining sound weldment, especially in the automation of welding process. Arc stability is somewhat sophisticated phenomenon which is not clearly defined yet. In consumable electrode welding, the voltage and current variation due to metal transfer enables to assess arc stability. Recently, statistical analyses of the voltage and current waveform factors are performed to assess the degress of arc stability which is assessed and controlled by operator's own experience by now. But, considering the increasing need and the trend of automation of welding process, it is necessary to monitor arc stability in real-time. In this sutdy, the modified stability index composed of two voltage and current wvaeform factors (arc time and short circuit time) reduced from four factors (arc time, short circuit time, average arc current and average short circuit current) in Mita's index by the welding electrical circuit modeling is proposed and verified by experiments to be well estimating arc stability in the static sense. Also, the recursive calculation form estimating present arc stability in the dynamic sense is developed for real-time estimation. The results of applying the recursive index during welding show good estimation of arc stability in real-time. Therefore, the results of this study offers the mean for real-time control arc stability.

  • The purpose of this exclusive welding-machine process using the welding Torch-rotation form is to develop a mechanism which can solve the problem of twisted welding wires and cables. The technique was developed by revising the torch position and smooth controlling of both the formal and reverse rotation. Some of the advantages of using the Torch-rotation form over the Work-rotation technique are the practical uses of increased work space and link work with the automation system of the plant. Using this welding machine process, It is possible to design a specific tool in order to solve the implemental problem. And I produced a control plate which can manipulate the progress of the entire process at the work place. Even if another kind of axle casing's welding work is used this process can be utilized if the fixed tip and work is produced and changed. The development if this exclusive welding-machine could reduce the manpower of skilled welding labor and after considerable analysis, this machine was found to increase productivity and better quality product in comparison to the handmade product.

Design and Implementation of PLC Automatic Welding System with Power-saving (전력 절약형 PLC 자동용접 시스템 설계 및 구현)

  • The welding technology has been used in almost all industries such as automotive, shipbuilding, power plants and industrial machinery. In this study, the design and implementation of PLC $CO_2$ welding automation system were investigated. For these purposes, the structure analysis for driving supporter was performed and specification of automatic voltage regulator, mutual interface of system and circuit diagram were designed in order to contrive power-saving system. As the results, the stability of design for driving supporter could be convinced by numerical analysis and PLC automatic welding system was suitable for welding automation of structural-manufacturing factory capable of producing various and small amount products. Therefore, it was confirmed that PLC $CO_2$ welding automation system could contribute to productivity, stable quality and power-saving.
