Laser welding of metals has been widely used to improve a wear resistance and a corrosion resistance of the industrial parts. The objective of this research works is to investigate the influence of the process parameters, such as the welding for metals with CW Nd:YAG lasers. The bead-on-plate welding tests are carried out for several combinations of the experimental conditions. In order to quantitatively examine the characteristics of the butt welding, the welding quality of the cut section, stain-stress behavior and the hardness of the welded part are investigated. From the results of the investigation, it has been shown that the optimal welding condition without defects in the vicinity of the welded area and with a good welding quality is 1400W of the laser power, 0.8m/min, 0.9m/min of welding speed and $4{\ell}$ in of pressure for shielding gas.
The effect of Post Weld Heat Treatment(PWHT) of RE36 steel for marine structure was investigated with parameters such as micro-vickers hardness, corrosion potential and corrosion current density of weld metal(WM), base metal(BM) and heat affected zone(HAZ), and both Al alloy anode generating current and Al alloy anode weight loss quantity etc. Hardness of post-weld heat treated BM, WM and HAZ is lower than that of As-welded condition of each region. However, hardness of HAZ was the highest among those three parts regardless of PWHT temperature and corrosion potential of WM was the highest among those three parts without regard to temperature and corrosion potential of WM was the highest among those three parts without regard to PWHT temperature. The amplitude of corrosion potential difference of each other three parts at PWHT temperature $550^{\circ}C$, $650^{\circ}C$ are smaller than that of three parts by As-welded condition and corrosion current density obtained by PWHT was also smaller than that of As-welded condition. Eventually, it was known that corrosion resistance was increased by PWHT. However both Al anode generating current and anode weight loss quantity were also decreased by PWHT compare to As-welded condition when RE36 steel is cathodically protected by Al anode. Therefore, it is suggested that the optimum PWHT temperature with increasing corrosion resistance and cathodic protection effect is $550^{\circ}C$.
Recently just as in the automobile industry, shipbuilders also try to reduce material consumption and weight in order to keep operating costs as low as possible and improve the speed of production. Naturally industry is ever searching for welding techniques offering higher power, higher productivity and a better quality. Therefore it is important to have a details research based on the various welding process applied to steel and other materials, and to have the ability both to counsel interested companies and to evaluate the feasibility of implementation of this process. Submerged-arc welding (SAW) process is usually used about 20% of shipbuilding. Similar to gas metal arc welding(GMAW), SAW involves formation of an arc between a continuously-fed bare wire electrode and the work-piece. The process uses a flux to generate protective gases and slag, and to add alloying elements to the weld pool and a shielding gas is not required. Prior to welding, a thin layer of flux powder is placed on the work-piece surface. The arc moves along the joint line and as it does so, excess flux is recycled via a hopper. Remaining fused slag layers can be easily removed after welding. As the arc is completely covered by the flux layer, heat loss is extremely low. This produces a thermal efficiency as high as 60% (compared with 25% for manual metal arc). SAW process offers many advantages compared to conventional CO2 welding process. The main advantages of SAW are higher welding speed, facility of workers, less deformation and better than bead shape & strength of welded joint because there is no visible arc light, welding is spatter-free, fully-mechanized or automatic process, high travel speed, and depth of penetration and chemical composition of the deposited weld metal. However it is difficult to application of thin plate according to high heat input. So this paper has been focused on application of the field according to SAW process for thin plate in ship-structures. For this purpose, It has been decided to optimized welding condition by experiments, relationship between welding parameters and bead shapes, mechanical test such as tensile and bending. Also finite element(FE) based numerical comparison of thermal history and welding residual stress in A-grade 3.2 thickness steel of SAW been made in this study. From the result of this study, It makes substantial saving of time and manufacturing cost and raises the quality of product.
Korea Gas Corporation has operated high pressure gas transmission line of about 600 kilometers and, therefore, a series of repair welding processes are required in order to cope with external defects such as dent, gouge, cracking usually due to mechanical attacks. Most of gas pipelines repair processes are performed after completely venting remaining gas. However, in some case, though it is very unusual, repairs require without venting gas. For instance, this case is that damaged pipeline is remedied with split sleeve by welding. In this paper, in an effort to confirm a safe application of the split sleeve welding, residual stress, strain and temperature distributions are evaluated by computer simulation and experiments. The results obtained are as follows : 1) Computer modelling is supposed to be reasonable because microstructure changes due to welding is simulated coincidently as compare to that of real condition. 2) The maximal temperature on inside surface of pipeline is 50$0^{\circ}C$ for the repair welding process. 3) The amount of residual stress is estimated as the stress corresponding to 0.8% strain. 4) The repair process employed is determined to be technically preferable because of its avoiding cracks and fractures in the course of welding.

The Ultrasonic metal welding is used in the solid-phase welding method at room temperature or low temperature state. In welding process, the high frequency vibration energy is delivered to the welding part under the constant pressure for welding. In this study, we aimed to design and manufacture a 40,000 Hz band horn through finite element analysis. By performing modal analysis and harmonic response analysis, the modal analysis result is that the horn frequency was 39,599Hz and the harmonic response result that the horn frequency was 39,533Hz. These results were similar. In order to observe the designed horn's performance, about 4,000 voltage data was obtained from a light sensor and was analyzed by FFT analysis using Origin Tool. The result RMS amplitude was approximately $8.5{\mu}m$ at 40,000Hz, and maximum amplitude was $12.3{\mu}m$. Using this manufactured horn along with an ultrasonic metal welder and tension tester, the weldability of Cu sheets was evaluated. The maximum tensile force was 66.53 N in the welding condition of 2.0 bar pressure, 60% amplitude, and 0.32 s welding time. In excessive welding conditions, it was revealed that weldability is influenced negatively.

Laser welding of dissimilar metals has been widely used to improve a wear resistance and a corrosion resistance of the industrial parts. The objective of this research is to investigate the influence of the process parameters, such as the welding for SM45C and STS304 with CW Nd:YAG lasers. The bead-on-plate welding tests are carried out for several combinations of the experimental conditions. In order to quantitatively examine the characteristics of the dissimilar welding, the welding quality of the cut section, stress-strain behavior and the hardness of the welded metal are investigated. From the results of the investigation, it has been shown that the optimal voiding condition without defects in the vicinity of the welded area and with a good welding quality is 1600W of the laser power, 0.85m/min of welding speed and $4{\ell}/min$ of pressure for shielding gas.

The purpose of this study is to propose a method to decide near-optimal settings of the constant current fuzzy control parameters using a controlled random search. This method tries to find the near-optimal settings of the constant current fuzzy control parameters through experiments. It has an advantage of being able to carry out searches in the search domain which includes some irregular points. The method suggested in this study was used to determine the fuzzy control parameters by which the desired welding current were formed during inverter DC resistance spot welding. The output variable was the ITAE (integral of time multiplied by the absolute error). This output variable was determined according to the input variables, which are the GE, GDE, and GDU. This study described how to obtained near-optimal welding current condition over a wide search space conducting a relatively small number of experiments.
Resistance spot welding process is completed in very short time and there are many factors affecting on the generation of heat. It is difficult to control these experimental factors and monitor distribution of the temperature and stresses in the experimental analysis case. and too much time and expense are required for the experimental trials to fine proper welding condition. So numerical analyses have been attempted steadily, but most numerical analyses on the resistance spot welding are mainly focused on thermal behavior. Therefore, in this paper, the numerical analysis of mechanical behavior as well as heat conduction is carried out for the spot welding process. For this numerical analysis, axial symmetric computer program for the spot welding analysis by F.E.M. has been developed considering heat conduction and thermal elastic-plastic theory. Material properties depending on temperature such as density, heat conductivity, heat expansion coefficient, specific heat, yield stress, elastic modulus, and specific resistance are considered. Using the results of temperature distribution obtained from heat conduction analysis, the thermal elastic-plastic analysis is carried out to clarify mechanical behavior of spot welded specimen. In order to evaluate the effect of residual stresses, numerical analyses are carried out under tension-shear load in two cases respectively; one with residual stress, the other without residual stresses.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the melting phenomenon of filler wire in detail and to obtain the precise temperature distribution of filler wire during GTA welding under the ultra-high welding speed condition in order to develop the ultra-high-speed GTA welding process with the pulse-heated hot-wire system by using three kinds of materials. The melting phenomenon of filler wire was observed using a high-speed camera and the temperature distribution of filler wire was measured using a radiation thermometer. From the above result, the adequate welding conditions of each material to make the GTA welding process with the ultra-high welding speed could be obtained. The ultra-high-speed GTA welding process needed the adequate wire current in order to obtain the adequate temperature distribution and the adequate melting position of filler wire. Moreover, the temperature distributions of three kinds of filler wire could be estimated by using the proposed simple estimation method.
