  • The overlay welding the automobile where the durability is demanded, it is used in the vessel engine valve, plant valve and pump parts. Cause of damage public opinion one what is thought is the fatigue load due to the opening and shutting operation right time repetition of the engine valve. The damage cause of the engine valve or explanation of destruction mechanism is very difficult. The research which it sees to make clear a overlay welding of Co-alloy by Plasma Transferred Arc Weld Surfacing Process reconsideration fatigue crack initiation and fatigue crack growth mechanism at high temperature.

  • An attachment part of the construction equipment frequently claimed from the crack occurrence that takes especially at the bucket. therefore we execute the fatigue examination and changes the welding method at the same materials. we executed a fatigue crack propagation experiment and got the conclusions at the normal temperature and Frequency 10Hz. We carried out butt welding for structure steel of SM490A and make three kinds of specimen of different weld method each. The fatigue limit of CASE 1 was determined to the low than CASE 2, CASE 3. the CASE 2 putting the interval of the 2mm creates back plate and make fatigue limit to high. Bead shapes and weld surfaces shape influence on fatigue life of materials. Specially, the crack growth becomes starting point that gap of back-plate and boundary surface of bead. It is confirmed by fracture showing on this study.

  • A literature review was conducted to survey informations available on the welding metallurgy of aluminum alloys and its effect on fusion weldability, especially on solidification cracking and pore formation. Solidification cracking behavior of Al weld is a complicate matter as compared to other high alloys, where a relatively simple Fe-X(most detrimental elements S, P, B, Si, etc) binary diagram can be successfully applicable. Both additive and synergistic effects of elements should be considered together. A same element play a different role from system to system. Porosity, caused by hydrogen contamination of the weld is one of the most troublesome welding problems. The primary sources of hydrogen are believed to be an absorbed moisture on the filler metal or base metal and in the shielding gas. It is extremely important that reliable quality-control procedures be employed to eliminate all possible sources of hydrogen contamination. Selection of proper process and parameters is sometimes more important than controlling of alloying elements in order to make a defect-free weld.

Optimization of Friction Welding Conditions for Production of Hose Nipple for Marine Transport (해양 수송용 호스니플 제작을 위한 마찰용접 조건의 최적화)

  • In this study, for the tube-to-tube friction welding of hose nipple materials, the main parameters of friction welding were investigated using tensile tests, Vickers hardness surveys of the bond area (HAZ), and observations of the microstructure to increase the quality of friction welding based on visual examination. As-welded and post weld heat treated (PWHT) specimens were tested. The optimal welding conditions were found to be n = 1000 rpm, HP = 10 MPa, UP = 15 MPa, HT = 9 s, and UT = 5 s when the metal loss (Mo) was 7.5 mm. Furthermore, the peak of the hardness distribution of the friction welded joints could be eliminated by PWHT. Moreover, the two materials of the friction weld were thoroughly mixed with a well-combined structure of micro-particles, without any molten material, particle growth, or defects.

  • This paper describes an experimental and numerical study on growing ductile crack-tip behaviors. The hybrid experimental and numerical method by means of a computer image processign technique, was applied to the analysis of both base metal and weld metal CT specimens. In the weld metal specimen, the initial crack-tip was placed in front of fusion line, and the crack orientation was perpendicular to it. Finite element analysis of crack growth behaviors in both base and weld matal specimens made of A533B Class 1 steel were also performed to examine the effects of weldment on near crack-tip fields. a series of experimental studies on crack-tip behaviors have clearly shown the qualitative effects of material properties, especially a hardening exponent. The experimental and numerical results have also shown that weldment does not affect displacement and strain fields near a crack-tip while a stress field is influenced by the difference between yield stresses of both base and weld metals.

Mechanical Properties of Dissimilar Friction Welded Steel Bars in Relation to Post Weld Heat Treatment (이종 마찰용접 강봉재의 후열처리에 따른 기계적 특성)

  • Dissimilar friction welding were produced using 15(mm) diameter solid bar in chrome molybedenum steel(KS SCM440) to carbon steel(KS S45C) to investigate their mechanical properties. The main friction welding parameters were selected to endure good quality welds on the basis of visual examination, tensile tests, Vickers hardness surveys of the bond of area and H.A.Z and microstructure investigations. The specimens were tested as-welded and post-weld heat treated(PWHT). The tensile strength of the friction welded steel bars was increased up to 100% of the S45C base metal under the condition of all heating time. Optimal welding conditions were n=2,000(rpm), $P_1=60(MPa),\;P_2=100(MPa),\;t_1=4(s),\;t_2=5(s)$ when the total upset length is 5.4 and 5.7(mm), respectively. The peak of hardness distribution of the friction welded joints can be eliminated by PWHT. Two different kinds of materials are strongly mixed to show a well-combined structure of macro-particles without any molten material and particle growth or any defects.

  • Creep-fatigue crack growth behavior at the heat affected zone of 1Cr-0.5Mo steel weldment has been experimentally studied. Load hold times of the tests for trapezoidal fatigue wave-shapes were varied among 0, 30, 300 and 3,600 seconds. Time-dependent crack growth rates were characterized by the $C_{t}$ estimated with the equation proposed by the previous finite element analysis work. It was concluded that the $C_{t}$ values calculated from the properties of parent metal were quite comparable to the accurate $C_{t}$ values calculated from both of weld and parent metals.etals.

  • In this study, the purpose is to investigate the influence of initial residual stresses on the fatigue crack growth behaviors after the distribution of initial residual stresses Is measured when the crack is growing from the compressive residual stresses field to the tensile residual stress field. Also, the Influence of the variation of residual stress distribution on the fatigue crack growth behaviors at the crack tip is studied when the initial crack li applied on base metal, weld metal and HAZ respectively.
